Hankering for some ceviche and recommendation from a colleague led to me to give Celeste a try. A small restaurant with people waiting for a table, I would definitely suggest making a reservation ahead of time. The tables are closely packed and part of the kitchen is open to the restaurant so you can see what's cooking. Started out with a mezcal margarita which was perfectly Smokey and tangy, it's easy to mess up mezcal, but they did it right. Also tried a specialty cocktail they had that night and it was delicious too. We ordered the avocado and tomato causa to start, which was visually appealing but taste wise was not particularly extravagant. We weren't quite sure what to expect with this but it was essentially a stack of cold potatoes, tomatoes, and avocado covered in sauce. The ceviche de blue cod I was hoping was going to be the star of the show, but once again it was lacking flavor. I expected more lime juice in the ceviche and maybe that is not how Peruvian ceviche is done, I'm not sure but I fly a little disappointed it didn't have more of a zing. My favorite dish was the shredded chicken, it was definitely the most flavorful of all the dishes and was unlike anything I had tried before. The food was good, but the menu options are a little limited if you don't want ceviche, steak or stews. We got the mixed seafood ceviche, the tuna tartare causa which was spicy mashed potatoes sandwiching the tartare, the scallops with squid ink linguine which has a great texture and the steamed fish with vegetables which came with rice. The special fried yucca stuffed with mushrooms, spinach had a crisp shell. The indoor area is very small and outdoor dining is covered with umbrellas so be prepared to get a little wet if it rains. read more

Wonderful wonderful wonderful. Every dish I ate here was honestly magical. The mixed ceviche was super flavorful and heavenly. The scallop fettuccine was the perfect amount of savory. The steak was perfectly cooked and the dessert just the right amount of sweet and savory. I left planning my next trip to this restaurant as the menu changes daily. Service was great as well. Loved the decor and the music. Also liked that the kitchen was visible to the patrons. Overall this place deserves all the praise. Absolutely incredible food and will be coming back. I am a sucker for seafood and so this restaurant is my heaven. The mixed ceviche was fresh, and a relatively large portion. The sauce was just the right amount of tangy with a wonderful mix of spice. For the entrees, we ordered the shrimp scampi and the scallop squid ink fettuccine. Both amazing. From start to finish. #1 - Ask for recommendations and thank me later. #2 - Be sure to try a causa. #3 - Prepare yourself for a mind blowing meal but also the warmest and kindest service (and least that I've experienced in BOS) What we tried: Cocktails. They were wonderful. My negroni was a wonderful twist on the classic and it went down too quickly. Causa. Our waiter recommended the tuna tartare and it was incredible. Specials. I ordered the arroz con mariscos (creamy rice and beans with mussels, shrimp and squid in a tomato-y, creamy sauce) and tried the squid ink linguini with seared scallops. Both were absolutely amazing. Wine. Again, their recommendation proved to be absolutely lovely. So lovely that I ordered a refill for dessert. Five adult beverages, an app, two entrees, and dessert resulted in us pretty much needing to be rolled out of there and the bill wasn't even $150. They could've charged twice that amount and I'd have felt satisfied. You almost don't notice the ambiance once you experience the food and service but it really is pleasant (don't judge a book by its exterior cover!) and has a cozy, neighborhood feel. Absolutely my favorite restaurant in Union Square! I know it's a mess of construction in Union right now, but is totally worth the visit to eat at Celeste. We made a reservation for a Thursday night and didn't have to wait for a table. I'm a big fan of their interior decor - the windows were covered with these blue white curtains that makes you feel like you're sitting beside the ocean. Everything was white and airy and lovely. We got the causa de avocado and tomato and seafood ceviche to start. The causa was delicious - it was my first time trying this dish and I was delighted. It was light yet pack full of flavor. The ceviche was quite good too, although not the best I've had. We got the squid ink pasta for entree. This had to be my favorite dish. I've had squid ink pasta in the North End before (at one of those overrated restaurants that you have to wait in line for hours for) and this was 10 times better. The only think what I can say about Celeste is many good expectations for a big disappointment, little and well decorated and the presentation of the dishes was good, but unfortunately the food not. About the food, The papa a la huancaina, the potatoes were overhead, the ceviche who is the most representative dish from Peru, it was insipid and then we tried the Lomo Saltado, you can't server with a portion of rice like that, it was disgusting. The only think it was good, was the drink, Maracuya sour with cacao on the top and the causa of shrimp. I don't recommended this place. read more

I only went once recently, but wasn't too impressed. The place was tiny. The music got good when we were leaving, the food was not that great. It was one of Boston's top resturants in 2019... I understand why they didn't win that spot again after that. We were happy with the complimentary shots at the end though and the drinks we ordered were good. Went here back in April with my partner on the recommendation of a co-worker. She warned me the food was good but service was awful. Did not disappoint. Despite having a reservation on a Tuesday night we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. The ceviche was hands down one of the best as was the tuna tartare. Then the service came back to disappoint- we ordered Peruvian scallops and a lamb dish that did not come out for another 40 minutes. We think they forgot about us/ lost our order. When I asked about it the server said it was coming out but then 15 minutes later asked "Is there anything else I can get you guys?"- like it was the end of the meal and I was like "our entrees?" and she was like "oh yeah, I forgot". Its too bad because our first plates were so good. The mains came out a bit under cooked like it was rushed out to us. The potatoes under the scallops were hard. Honestly, I couldn't get out of there fast enough (date night ruined). This place has a lot of fanfare nowadays and I want to give it a second chance. Maybe I will, but I still see lots of services complaints in the reviews and don't want to spend another $100 for Burger King service (sorry, King). read more

Really adorable spot. It's certainly more upscale, so it's a great spot for a date night or small, private dinner. The decor is beautiful. We sat next to the pool which was gorgeous and there were heaters out since it was cold. The heaters turned off a few times as they ran out of gas and staff were quick to change them! Celeste has been on my list of restaurants to visit for a while now because I've heard such wonderful things, and I'm pleased to say it met my high expectations! The food is fantastic and the service is exceptional. We dined in and it made for a really nice intimate experience. If you're not aware, the restaurant is very tiny with an open kitchen so you can actually see the chefs and bartenders prepare your food and drinks. The menu is small, but allows for some really deliciously curated Peruvian specialities. You can't come here without trying one of the ceviche starters. We took our waiter's recommendation and ordered the tacu tacu with a pan-fried fish on top for our entree which was definitely the right call - would also recommend! We ordered the lamb shank as well that was cooked to perfection. The chef gave us a dessert tasting of yummy custard with fruit on the house, and the check comes with two shots to end your night. The food speaks for itself! If you're looking for a big, fancy restaurant, this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for a chill, relaxed vibe with a homey feel then come on down! This place is tiny! You can barely slide in between tables to sit down, the decor is boring and you'll freeze every time the door opens. BUT... The food is so unbelievable you don't care about the decor, or having to squeeze between tables. Celeste takes your taste buds on a ride that you will not want to get off. They start you off with complimentary roasted corn nuts, these we're so tasty we kept asking for more! The ceviche mixed seafood has the perfect balance of acid and is a serious party in your mouth. This is indeed a tiny place, but has a warm, friendly, cozy/casual dining atmosphere. Not my first choice for a large party, but for a fun date night or a place to eat with close friends - definitely would work. Very friendly service. We learned the menu changes often. We had the mixed ceviche (Very good) and a savory potato cake appetizer (delicious!). For entrees, we had a seafood / mussels broth-y type dish, and I had a creamy saucy chicken dish with a nutty flavor. Both were good, I'd still be curious to try other dishes. As a Peruvian person who grew up eating the best food in the planet and I have enjoyed really good Peruvian food most of my life, I was eager to try this highly rated Peruvian restaurant. I have to say, it was disappointing. I have never seen a "lomo saltado" looking more like a stew (lomo saltado is a stir fry!), or a "sudado de pescado" so unlike a real sudado de pescado. Went here on a date night with my girlfriend. It was a little chilly inside but the vibe was right. Our waiter was amazing, he was always checking in and the service was super fast. You could tell everyone was helping everyone to ensure everyone was being taken care of. We ordered a few appetizers and the waiter brought us a small entree on the house which was super nice. A great place for a dinner for two. We came on Tuesday evening and were seated at the counter immediately. The space is a little cramped but it was fun to be able to watch as our food was cooked. The food was pretty good. The causa de avocado and tomato was a nice way to start our meal. It's light and tasty. Then we tried the ceviche de palm and artichoke hearts, which was decent. Unfortunetly, I didn't love this place like the others on here. I am half Peruvian and lived there part of my life. I say this, because the dishes I ordered have the same names as traditional dishes in Peru but taste completely different and presented differently. For example the Lomo Saltado does not come with French fries it comes with skinned backed potato. The best part of a lomo saltado is the French fries mixed with the stir fry. We also got the Seco, which tasted nothing like a Seco from Peru. The flavors were just not Peruvian. It does not come with beans like the traditional version. There was no carrots or peas either. Just disappointing. I should of asked and read the menu more carefully. But the names of the dishes threw me off and made me thing I was getting traditional Peruvian food which you are not. Now for the good. The Causa was good, like a 7/10. The drinks were amazing, both the chilcano and pisco sour were amazing. The pisco sour one of the best I have ever had. Now, I see potential in this place and I went there when they first opened so I will give it another try. The ceviches on yelp look amazing so I'm going to go try that next time. This review is more for Peruvian who go there expecting to eat traditional food. People who have never had Peruvian food might find this to be good. read more

I had reservations at 8:45 on Saturday 3/26 and was coming from downtown Boston. This was the day the crane fell and caused a huge delay. Celeste was incredibly understanding and upheld our reservations even though most of our party arrived 30 minutes late after an awful almost 2 hour commute that should have only taken 15-20 minutes. Our server was great and friendly and the food was spectacular. I had been craving a delicious ceviche and the mixed seafood one hit all the right spots. They say it's an appetizer but honestly is big enough to have you pretty satisfied if eating it alone. The lomo saltado had delicious flavor and was tender. I had never tried Tacu Tacu a lo Macho but I got the seafood one and was very very pleased. My friend got the lamb stew and also said it was fantastic. Everything was seasoned perfectly and delicious. The pisco martini was a little too strong for me but next time I'd try the pisco lemonade, which looked quite refreshing. read more

Downtown Lima or Somerville? Either way, I'm home. This is the best ceviche, hands down. The pisco sours and other cocktails are absolutely out of this world and made right in front of you. I make a point to eat here at least twice a month for the food and drink....BUT the service here is also incredible. Which was perfect because we could see the chef and all the kitchen working on their creations. We've ordered pisco sour to drink, and shared tartars and a main Peruvian dish to eat. Very cute & tasty! Ceviche was the best I've had in the US - fresh, spicy - wanted to literally drink the sauce. We also got the tuna tartar (good!), lamb stew w/ rice (so good!) and lomo saltado (fine/boring, bit overcooked). But highlight was the ceviche - would come back again for this alone! Service was friendly and, considering this is one of the smallest restaurants and kitchens I've ever seen, attentive but never felt rushed, which I was worried about. Cocktails / drink selection is small, but all good too. As mentioned though, this place is crazy small. There is a "bar" but it's filled with diners, so don't expect to be able to really walk in / wait for your table. Maybe 2 people can stand while waiting, but it's like standing in the middle of the restaurant. Similarly, not sure I'd try and come with a group - better for a lovely date night. It took COVID 19 for me to finally try this place. My boyfriend has been asking me to go here since the place opened. I am so glad we waited till now to try it. The place was very well prepared for reopening and all the safety precautions. I came with my two infants and we were seated alone inside. We ordered the mango passion fruit shrimp ceviche and it was delicious! For dinner I had the steamed fish Asian style recommended to me by our server since I am dairy free. Celeste was such a great experience. This was one of my first forays into dine-in during the pandemic and couldn't have been more pleased. They make you feel quite safe and have good precautions while keeping the seating area quite cute. Our waiter was awesome, very knowledgeable about the menu and gave strong recommendations without any up selling. The tiradito de atun was especially delicious.
