This place has a great reputation so I was excited to visit and Tambo 22 didn't disappoint! We came here with a reservation for 3 on a weekday, but the place was pretty empty - definitely didn't need it. Ambiance was pretty romantic with the dim lighting and clean atmosphere. We were seated pretty quickly and service was fast to get waters and take our order as well. The menu had a good selection of dishes which made for a good variety of food. Ceviche was excellent, very delicious and fresh. The salmon was also super tender - really amazing! Prices were also fair for the portions sizes. Had such a fun Saturday date night. Great vibe. It was pretty empty at 6 but it was popping by the time we left. Our waitress - bless her- was so busy. But she took good care of us. All the food was great. Ceviche mixta was so delicious (as expected): 5/5 Yuca frita - yum 5/5 Meat and shrimp skewers - 5/5 - The whole trout would have benefited from a little more salt and acidity but it was still good. 4/5 - choco lava cake - 5/5 - drinks: pisco sour was great. Thanks to fellow helpers, we decided to have a late dinner. This is a small place with tables outside for dining al fresco. Off street parking is the only option. We were fortunate to find a spot close by. Upon entering, we were quickly attended. You can make reservations, but this was spur of the moment and we were fortunate to get a table. Menus were left and we had time to review and decide. Our waitress took our drink orders and meal orders too. We ordered the Chicha morada pisco sour and boy was it good! Pisco packs a punch so I only had one. You could taste the hint of cinnamon in it, mmm. I had the filet mignon Lomo Saltado. On the sides were the rice and French fries. I usually use hangar meat when I make Lomo. So I can tell you this elevates the dish. It was SO good. My husband had the Pollo a la Brasa which he enjoyed. And the servings looked pretty in their dish. The waitress was warm, friendly and on point. We had a delightful evening. Prices were high. However, we expected that. And the portions were enough to finish, not family style. We expected this, since we are a couple looking for an intimate place with finer cuisine not expecting to bring home a doggy bag. It is so hard not to give this place five stars--everything tasted great, particularly the pisco sour and the lomo saltado. The service was also very friendly and fast. My only problem is with the prices. The lomo saltado was $34(!) for a portion that was reasonable but not huge, and the rest of the menu was also pretty steep. There are just too many places in Chelsea with incredible Latin food at better prices for me to feel good about paying that much. I'd come back just for a drink though! read more

Their products go from their loving hands to the table and around the world. AMAZING. It's hard not to fall in love with the towering Chef with a soft manner, a smile and talent. Just amazing. But now, the food. @https://www.tastingcollective.com/ partnered with the chef to create a memorable multiple course meal that was a trip through Peruvian cuisine, considered the highest gastronomy of Latin America (but don't tell my puertorrican brethren "yo soy boriqua pa que tu lo sepas in your face patriotic" who can't understand why Puerto Rico isn't the belly button of gastronomy (albeit how delicious the food of my country is!). One word is the most famous ambassadorial dish for Peru - CEVICHE. And the Chef delivered a delicately sliced, aji amarillo kissed, cool and sweet scallop that made me cry. FOR MORE! It was simply SPECTACULAR! Peruvian "street food" followed with the most delicate "pincho" (skewer) piece of melt-in-your-mouth steak. One bite (ok, he gave us two) and you were hooked. AHHHHH but the killer was the Halibut "Sudado" (a mildly spicy broth for the gods!) with yucca and vegetables. The fish was so tender, moist and flavorful. Toes curled, people gasped - a true "When Sally met Harry" moment... Of course, no self respecting latino could get away without rice and the crispy dish consisting of a rice and bean "crunchy and fluffy" cake-ish thing topped with the king of flesh PORK BELLY with CRISPY chicharron... yeah, he went there. Rice was a TAD undersalted, but he's forgiven. For every dish we inhaled, the outstanding loving care from the staff and his stories of passion for the land, his culture, people, flavors... yeah, he can get away with anything. We went on a double date at tambo22 on a Saturday night. We've had Peruvian in the city but this was the first time venturing farther out. We ordered a round of cocktails while we waited for our table. The restaurant is on the smaller side so we weren't surprised on having to wait a little bit. Drinks were excellent!! Now onto the food. We shared the ceviche of the day & the empanadas. Both were very tasty! For entrees, I had the fish soup, my husband had the lamb shank, our friends had the duck confi & trout. All the entrees were $29-36 which was a bit pricey for the quality/taste of the food. Portions were fine. My fish was fresh, but tasted blah. The lamb was a shank so it's something we've had plenty of times. It tasted too gamey which took away from the dish. Overall, we had a great time and the cocktails and appetizers were great. My husband and I have dined at tambo on several occasions. The food is always great, however, Brian, the manager could really use a personality adjustment when it comes to friendliness, and politeness to the patrons who are not Caucasian, or Asian. My husband and I weren't asked how we liked our food, the couple sitting next to us who came in after us ,as well as the other patrons were treated with kindness. When Brian sat us at our table, he said nothing, not enjoy your meal, welcome back,etc, as a host/manager should do. When my husband and I left, he said nothing. I recommend anyone in the African American community not to dine here. Dine where you're wanted, not tolerated. We will never step foot in your establishment again. read more

Service: Booked a table ahead of tome, although it didn't look like you needed too. Then when I showed up the hostess, very nice girl, was about to seat us. Then, who I'm assuming is the manager, came running over and said we couldn't sit at that table.... There was almost no one there... said it was reserved. I would expect that someone would show up shortly after. No... not until I received the check did anyone show up for that table. He then went over and greeted them, showing clear favoritism, as though they are friends. I really don't like that kind of behavior. The waitress was nothing special, and I didn't order another drink because she never asked me. I sat my entire dinner with out a drink. Waitstaff not as seasoned but good enough the beef anticucho (skewers) are the best thing I've tasted in Boston. The ceviche was refreshing super fresh and well balanced tacu tacu way better than other Peruvian places. The lomo saltado was well executed but not as savory as I wanted still excellent with top notch and super fresh ingredients super tender beef the fries were on the side and some of the beat I've had. I'm so thankful to previous yelpers for spotting this 5 star bistro. On a whim, we called and found ourselves seated at the bar tended by Brian. He shepherded me through my curiosity about the drink and food menus. I had the bourbon Bee-haviour and the spicy margarita, both perfectly balanced and delicious. The paiche (grilled fish) appetizer was a great start as I was eyeing it as a main entree too. I had the spicy pulled chicken with a perfectly cooked egg that I've never seen before. The stew was reminiscent of a fricasse and served with rice. Hubby had the burger which was a blend of alpaca and short rib, he thought spectacular. It's side of fries was quite tasty and a beautiful orange hue. Street parking was ample and the covid protocol was excellent. The bar had clean and study plastic partitions.
