Take me to Machu Picchu! It was a real treat to finally dine at this Peruvian restaurant! I have been craving Peruvian food for a while and was happy to remember this place excisted. My bf and I dined in on a Saturday night and it wasn't crazy busy but there were many full tables and it was very lively. They have a nice selection of Peruvian craft bottle beers that we happily wanted to try. I got a fruity beer that was red and my bf got one of their traditional regular tasting beer, both were very tasty. We figured the portions were a good size so we didn't order an appetizer and just got entrees. My bf got their aji de gallina and I got one of there monthly special which was a spicy seafood stew. Both dishes came our nice and hot and the same yellow color! Hahaha! The seafood stew was very tasty and it was filled with huge clams and shrimps. The broth was nice and thick almost like a chowder. The aji de gallina (Chicken) dish was also very good. The chicken was nice and tender and the soup was very flavorful. We enjoyed our delicious dinner while also enjoying the 90s playlist. Excellent Peruvian cuisine! The restaurant is cozy and full of Peruvian inspired elements decoration. Service is really great: server expertly explains you what's inside the dishes and offered great suggestions. The ceviche is super fresh and can be spiced up (or down) to your own liking. Recently ordered takeout from here with a Peruvian friend. It was so good that I ordered it again the following night with my BF. Both times, the food was yummy!!! Food: I got the yuquitos, leche de tigre, chaufa, mazamorra morado, and pisco flan. The leche de tigre, chaufa, and pisco flan were amazing!!! 5/5!!! Definitely get the "green sauce" with the chaufa. Makes a world of difference. The yuquitos and mazamorra morado were a little disappointing, so I wouldn't recommend those. Portion sizes of things, except for the yuquitos, are good. However, 4/5 stars for the price. I definitely think that the food here is $3-5 too much. $20 for chaufa and $10 for 6 yucca fries?! Crazy and wayyyyy overpriced!!! Service: Got takeout, so I can't truly comment. I definitely want to eat in the restaurant sometime, so I'll have to reassess. That being said, order the food and getting it delivered or picking it up was super fast! Ambiance: Again ... need to experience this in person, but it looked like it was very cute inside. Peruvian restaurant nestled right in the middle of Union Square off of Bow Market. We came as a party of two on an early Saturday evening and were able to find a seat quickly. We had actually just from a Miami trip about a month prior and were in the mood for some ceviche, which this restaurant was the only one closest to us they offered. We got the ceviche, which was fresh and well marinated but only offered one type of fish in their plate. It was good but lacking depth. We also got their seafood fried rice, which was also tasty, but had very strong Asian fusion vibes - just an observation. For the price point, not worth. The last dish we also ordered was a steak and rice that came with fries - again, delicious but nothing too special. Portion was small for the price Tldr; pretty good ceviche, but it is pricey. This place has been my go-to for the last 3 years whenever I miss home and sadly it's been progressively losing its "sazón." Their lomo saltado, ají de gallina, and seco de res used to be quite good. Lately the food tastes like they're not using Peruvian ingredients or have the wrong people in the kitchen. I should clarify: the food is still tasty - just doesn't taste right. Machu Picchu has a warm and welcoming vibe with friendly, attentive staff who made sure our drinks arrived promptly. We ordered the Yuquitas, tamal criollo, and Anticuchos, all of which had a lot of potential flavor-wise. However, the food came out at a warm-to-cool temperature and quickly lost heat, which took away from the full experience. While the cocktails were on point, we feel the meal would have been more memorable if served hotter, as the flavors would have really shined. Great ambiance and service, but we hope for hotter plates next time to elevate the flavors even more. read more

I think they really sell you on the ambience though, so that's what you're really getting and paying for here. The steak was pretty good, nothing great. My friend's "Yucca fries" actually turned out to be potatoes (or the most potato-like yucca ever), and my sweet plantains were weirdly bland and tasteless, inferior to the sweet plantains you get at Brazilian places even though they look exactly alike. Tried the Peruvian "Pilsen" beer, which was pretty decent (a bit better than the usual Bud/Heineken lager) though a bit on the small side for seven bucks. It was a pleasant visit but I doubt we'll be back though I'm curious about their ceviche. All in all, 3.5 stars read more

I've heard great things about this spot so I knew it was time to visit! It was empty on a tuesday evening which I do prefer however I feel like I missed the atmosphere it has on a friday or saturday evening. The decor was pretty simple and didn't stand out to me which is fine because it's about the food. We decided to try the anticuchos which is basically a beef heart skewer but not on the single stick and was $18 and it wasn't that great. But, the cocktail was so delicious I don't see many cocktails using chambord so I decided to treat myself. It truly was a sugar rush in the best way. Now to the star- the tallarin verde steak... I had gotten it because it had stood out to me on yelp photos but I wasn't sure if pasta was the way to go at a Peruvian spot. I have not gone to a Peruvian restaurant in so long if ever, so I was on the fence. However, I ended up trying it and the pasta was so freaking GOOD, perfectly seasoned and just enough cheese. If I am being honest, better than the north end pastas I've tried lol. Nobody come for me please ...... and the steak was tender and juicy. I felt like a dog that was salivating over the meat. Apps here are extremely overpriced so I would skip and go for the entree items which are good size and get some drinks while you are at it. They have a lot of nice non-alcoholic drinks as well. Despite some disappointments the food and drinks came out in my book as worth coming again and next time I'll be smart about it. We had a reservation for an early dinner here. It was surprisingly lively even before the typical dinner rush, with several large families/groups gathered. The food was meh to begin with. I ordered the ceviche de pescado, which comes atop a piece of lettuce and has cancha (corn nuts), choclo (corn kernels), and a piece of sweet potato on the side. As is quite typical at Peruvian restaurants, the table is served with cancha as an appetizer (similar to bread at Italian restaurants or tortilla chips at Mexican restaurants).The best part of it was probably the hearty hot stone plate that the food came on. The ceviche itself was okay but relatively bland, while the accompanying sides were generally unappetizing. It certainly wasn't worth $23 by any stretch of the imagination. But what really knocked it out of the park was that there were HAIRS in the food. I found the first hair after a few bites, then set it aside and tried to ignore it - until I found more hair throughout the meal. Anyone would have trouble enjoying dinner after that! The other dish was the lomo saltado (stir-fried steak with onions and tomatoes), which came with rice and fries. The stir fry was fine, and the sides were basic and what you'd expect. The service was just okay. For example, when we entered, we weren't greeted by anyone (even though there were a few employees standing at the kiosk near the door). Nobody really checked in on us throughout the meal, but the staff took our order, so I guess they fulfilled the basic requirements of the job. The family-friendly environment is probably the most appealing characteristic of this place. The ambiance is nice enough, with décor that evokes Peruvian icons - like my favorite animal, the alpaca. Combined with the lackluster food and service, this restaurant could've been 3 stars, but having hair in my dish definitely lowered it to 2 stars. If someone in my life is dying to come here, I wouldn't refuse to return, but it's definitely not on my list of places I'd like to eat at again. read more

My Peruvian husband, myself and our two young children had dinner at Machu Picchu last night, and it was wonderful. I was initially nervous ordering as I have a crustacean allergy and I saw a lot of seafood options on the menu. After mentioning this to our fantastic waiter, Carlos, he reassured me that they take food allergies very seriously. They change gloves, utensils, cook in separate areas, etc. Usually I cannot eat anything fried on a menu with seafood because it all goes in the same oil. I really wanted the Yuquitas (fried yuca), and he told me he could make it in separate oil. They were cooked perfectly, and the dipping sauce was divine. We also shared an empanada and the Kausa- all delicious. My older son had the fish ceviche, and requested it to be "not too spicy". Since it's made fresh to order, this was not a problem, and he thought it was perfect. My younger son had the Tallarin Verde (a pesto spaghetti) with chicken tenders. He devoured it. My husband ordered the Seco a la Norteña and said it was delicious and authentic. I had the Lomo Saltado which was also delicious. The steak was so tender, juicy and flavorful. We finished with the Alfahores- Dulce de leche shortbread type cookies that literally melt in your mouth. I was so thankful for the attention to my allergy, and all of the food was amazing. This is a Peruvian gem in Somerville near union square. I was here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. We did not have reservations but there was ample space inside. We got a variety of dishes, Choclo and octopus to start. I have never had Peruvian food and let me tell you .. everything that came on the table was delicious! We also got Peruvian tea which came in a super cute kettle. For our mains we got a Ceviche with haddock. The serving sizes are very large and the service itself is phenomenal. This place did not disappoint. It is a small drive from Boston but worth it. The food was delicious. It had been a while since I had a decent tasting Chicharon sandwich. My son's favorite is the aji de gallina and some places don't get the flavor right. Here he said it was on point. The drinks were delicious. The service was quick and the service staff was very attentive. They had typical Peruvian music playing. We felt like we were back in Peru. Every time I eat in a Peruvian restaurant I get this, and at Machu Picchu - it's the best I've had! Flavorful cilantro based broth packed with soft potato & carrots, and delicious bits of chicken! For an entree I ordered Seco De Carne a La Nortena. This is a dish I will 100% order again when I go back. Soft stewed beef you can cut with a fork, with a side of crunchy slices raw onions, rice and beans. Very simple, but classic, comfort style food. Only comment I have was the beef was a bit saltier than expected. I'm excited to get back here and try to the Lomo Saltado & ceviche. If you're driving thru Union Sq give this place a serious look! Since we were with a larger party I got to try a lot of different dishes. -tamal criollo: definitely a highlight! Well-seasoned masa and meat inside that paired wonderfully with the pickled veggies. -ceviche de pescado: fresh seafood, very strong citrus flavor. -yuquitas: these were solid but a bit small, and I found the sauce on the bland side. I would pass on these. -tallarín with steak: okay, this was amazing. The basil-spinach spaghetti had a good bite (consistency/texture) to it and the flavors were balanced and addictive. The steak was also juicy and tasty (I had mine medium rare which I would recommend - it was cooked more towards medium but came out delicious). I do wish the potatoes were more seasoned. Tried both the pisco sour and I believe the costa verde cocktail, which were both delicious. For birthday celebrations the staff come out and sing happy birthday and give the birthday celebrant a cute hat to wear for pictures and videos. I finally made it to this restaurant today, and my only regret is that it took me so long. The people and atmosphere are really friendly, and the food is really good.The prices are also very reasonable too! I had the chicken they are famous for, with quinoa on the side. It also came with a little salad and two side sauces that had a nice, somewhat spicy flavor. It was nice to eat a delicious meal that was also healthy. Someone had a birthday while I was there, and they got a cake with a candle and they got to wear an Incan hat that had feathers in it while people sang "Happy Birthday" to them in English and Spanish. Very fun! They started out in a small space years ago, and are now in a much larger one. I can see why they have been so successful! I'll be back. read more

One of my favorite meals I had in Peru was tallarines verdes and I was so excited to see that they had it on the menu. I would highly recommend trying it. It is kind of like a cheesy pesto pasta with potatoes and meat. We ordered the empanadas and Peruvian corn too. Also, it happened to be my friends birthday and we told our server. I sat for 30mins before I got someone to take my order. They are really nice and the aesthetic is beautiful but I was not impressed with the food. I ordered the mussels it is not cooked they said they cooked them with lemon. So they changed it for me for the grilled octopus which wasn't any better. I had the chicken and it was kind of flavorless. I also had this corn that was huge, I think it may be harmony beans cause that's what it tasted like. It just wasn't for me.
