I'm usually not one to rate a brewery solely on the taste of their beers, everyone has their own taste, but the beer here was absolutely not my thing. My boyfriend and I each got a flight so we tried seven different beers total, and we only remotely liked one of them. And at ~$25 for a flight of 4 beers, that I either didn't drink or forced myself to down, it was a very unenjoyable time and money down the drain. We also tried a variety of the beers, probably just about every style they made, so it wasn't even that one of the styles just wasn't a strong suit. The spot also really isn't even a brewery, but rather a restaurant that serves beers. Yes, they do brew their own beers on site, but if you aren't eating and just want a beer, you're limited to standing room around a couple barrels outside or one of a handful of seats at the bar. The place was packed with people ordering pizzas, so I'm sure their food is good, just not the brews. Was also bummed that they only had one of the rare barrel sours on tap, other than that you'd have to get them by the bottle. On a positive note, it's dog friendly outside and the bartender was nice! The water also tasted great, best thing I had while there! There's street parking on all the surrounding blocks, most of which was in the 2-4 hour range. read more

I was very sad when I heard that rare barrel closed as it was a must stop every time I made a trip up to the bay area. But I was very excited to learn that cellarmaker bought it and continued on the rare barrel legacy. Place has remained mostly the same with barrel ambiance and the beers are still amazing. One of my favorite places, but parking is pretty limited so you'll most likely be parking around the corner but the small walk is worth it. read more

I was excited to see Jack London Square get another delicious brewery. I've definitely enjoyed their beers from picked them up at bottle shops and collaborations with other breweries. I've always heard good things about their pizza so I was amped to see this location would also have pizza. On opening day is was super busy by the time I got there after work. Luckily my friend Ross had a spot at the bar. We eventually got a table outside and closed the place down. They have an array of different beers, ranging from pilsner to lagers to WC IPAs to hazies to porters all the way to stouts. I love when breweries have a variety so everyone can find their favorite. With the collaborations with other Bay Area breweries, it's endless new recipes for evolving trends and taste buds. The food is great, slightly elevated then typical brewery grub but not too stuffy. Pizzas are awesome and so are the small bites. There's lots of seating inside and out. Definitely a great addition to the breweries in JLS. read more

It's about time I wrote a review...we've been here 4 times now, including the pre-opening March 11, & have loved it every single time. First...as sad as I was that the original Blue Bottle closed here, it was met with astonished glee that it would be Cellarmaker replacing it. Fond memories of some random kind (& easy to look at) Aussie boys giving 2 ladies & their hubbys their table in the now-closed but always-packed SF Howard St. Cellarmaker continues to live in our hearts...in addition to kick-ass stouts that are a must-have for this lady. We all know that we don't have to worry if there's going to be a deep, dark, barrel-aged stout on the menu. Yes. The answer is Yes. What's really nice is the eclectic food menu. To fill up it's probably a pizza you want. I adore the bar-style because it's extra thin and crispy. Hubby loves the Detroit style, so we're both happy. There's also sharing plates that we've ordered (I think they change periodically) which have been good as well... Finally, the service is always GREAT. In this world of ordering via QR codes, they make sure to ask you if you'd like help or want them to order anything for you etc. I sooooo appreciate this. Plus even the newbies are totally into it. Last time I was there a new guy brought me my stout and he had only just learned about the world of stouts when he started working there. Can you imagine? You never knew about stouts and Cellarmaker is where you start? He'll be ruined for life...never ever to be able to drink a Founder's or Prairie or Guiness or any lesser-than. Oakland's Jack London Square is experiencing a boom of local beer breweries. Having lived in the neighborhood for 20 years, I've watched as breweries and bottle shops began to set up shop. Some have come and gone. Others are just now getting started. Cellermaker is the latest welcome addition (and I'm fortunate to live right next door!). Occupying the former Blue Bottle Coffee HQ, Cellarmaker is filling a niche in the crowded Oakland beer scene by not only brewing some amazing suds, but also offering a full menu of delicious food options, most notably their amazing Detroit-style pizzas. Cellermaker Oakland has a spacious inside bar area in front of their brewing tanks. All current offering are listed on the board above the bar. In addition to the house label, they also offer a few "guest" taps. If you want to avoid indoors, you have tables and seating on the outside sidewalk or inside their curbside parklet. Both have awnings and coverings in the event of drizzle. But bring a jacket for cooler evenings. Ordering drinks and food is via your phone. After scanning a tabletop QR code, you're taken to a Toast-integrated daily menu. They also have physical menus if you prefer. Staff are attentive and friendly/welcoming. I'm an IPA and high ABV beer fan, and Cellarmaker is hitting my sweet spot in many of their offerings. I tried their Quadruple Dobis, a quad hazy IPA (11.5%), and it was everything you want in a big IPA... piney, resinous, metallic, yet still crisp enough to hold its own between bites of pizza. I followed that up with their Edge of Time barleywine (14.8% ABV). It was toffee sweet and a perfect sipping beer as liquid dessert. I ordered polenta fries, pizza bites, and their braised beef ribs on mash and there was not a dud or disappointment in the lot. I really loved the fry and crunchy texture on their polenta fries in combo with the beers. A beautiful combo. With such an extensive beer and food menu that changes with the seasons, you can bet that I'll be a new regular customer at Cellarmaker Oakland! read more

This is a relatively new spot in Oakland! Highly highly recommend if you want a good beer, good food, and need to catch a game! All the beers are really delicious and juicy. We ordered the Dino Kale Salad and the Pesto Passion. The salad was dressed beautifully and it was topped with puffed quinoa which added such a nice pop. The restroom style pizza was really yum. If there is one thing I know, it's good craft beer and Cellarmaker has never failed to deliver a tasty pint. It was with high anticipation and expectation walking into brewery on August 23 to see what they had to offer. I had only been to Cellarmaker once in the past, when they occupied the Howard St. location but had frequented craft beer from them in the past. I was excited to have another quality brewery within walking distance from work to visit, along side Ghost Town Brewing, Original Pattern, Faction, Alameda Brewing Company, Sante Adarius and eventually Humble Sea. This Oakland area was turning into a mini craft beer mecca! The location occupies the former Blue Bottle headquarters at 300 Webster Street. The indoor/outdoor location has a full kitchen serving up a tasty menu including some fantastic pizzas. It's an open facility with two large roll up doors and a front door. There is also a 'to go' area that is connected to the brew pub, but separate. As with the Howard Street location, the board is all hand written, left to right featuring light beer, IPAs, hazy, porters, stouts, followed by a selection of wines, seltzers and bubbly water. Their food menu is simple and diverse. I've only ordered the bar 10 inch cheese and the pepperoni pizzas, cut into squares. Both have been excellent, starting at $10 for the cheese. The beer, does anything need to be said? Nothing has every failed to impress. From their Summer Lager and Timbo Pils to Coffee & Cigarettes and bigger, their beer is very well crafted. Typically known for those hazy West Coast IPAs, Turok: Mosaic Hunter never failed to impress! Some of the best Bay Area beer to be had, now in Oakland. Best night of the week to hit up Cellarmaker is Tuesday for their $6 pint night, but honestly, I'll pay for their pints, as they brew good craft beer. Always a favorite in my book and happy to have them close from work. Take a break from the other breweries we have and give Cellarmaker a shot. read more

I give this place a 2 out of 5. It's a nice spot, but some things could be better. I went on a Sunday night. You have to order using your phone by scanning a QR code, but since I was going to pay with cash, I couldn't complete the order. That's why I went inside to ask for help. I was sitting outside and tried to get the attention of a tall girl with curly hair I think her name was Imy. I asked her for help, but she didn't really respond and kind of ignored me. I had to walk over to her and ask again. She told me to go back to the counter and said she would help me, but instead she went to clean a table and didn't come back. I felt ignored. Luckily, another worker named Tío helped me. He was super friendly and professional. Honestly, he saved my experience. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, a crab sandwich, and a chicken pot pie. I don't recommend the chicken pot pie the flavor wasn't great and it didn't really taste like a real pot pie. After we finished eating, the same girl walked past our table a few times and didn't clear the plates. I don't know if she treats every customer like that, but I didn't feel welcomed by her. read more

Cellarmaker opening was a LONG awaited experience in my apartment. My partner and I would walk by it on the way to Jack London Square and hope to see the doors open so when it did open, there were high expectations. Oakland already has some great options for square pizza, so there was competition. Luckily, they did not disappoint. I'm or gonna review the beer because I'm not a huge fan in general, but the food was fantastic. We tried the short ribs as an appetizer and split the Divorciado and both were delicious. The meat on the ribs literally fell off the bone and the crust on the pizza, while quite greasy, was fluffy. The staff were friendly and attentive, the place looks great, I'm looking forward to coming back and trying the other pizzas! read more

First time trying Cellarmaker and I really like their "Coffee & Cigarettes," which is a Smoked Coffee Porter. It's a lightly smoked coffee porter made with a touch of German beechwood smoked malt, as well as high-quality English malts to create a chocolaty, roasty base beer. They then add two pounds of Sightglass Colombian Finca la Granada coffee per barrel for an intense but refined coffee character. I also enjoyed their "Czech GPT," a Czech-Style Pale Lager. read more

LOVEEEE!!! Cellarmaker is our favorite brewery in the bay area by far (probably my favorite in the world). This new location is so fun! They did such an amazing job redoing the space - it's open, plenty of natural light and just gorgeous. Great place to stop in solo to grab a beer or come in with the family for a meal. As always the pizza and beer sets the standard and is the best in the business. I also really enjoyed their gazpacho and can't wait to try the stone fruit salad. Killer food menu!!! Opening night was awesome! A bit of a wait because of the high demand, but staff managed it really well and things went smoothly. Been to many restaurant openings and this was the best, they were well prepared. Beer selection is diverse and tasty. Did a flight from light to dark. Favorite beer was "cigarettes and coffee" which was the best porter I've had in a while, followed by the "summer lager", which was light crisp and flavorful. Tried the summer bounty bar pizza, uniquely crisp crust, where the chess spills off the edges and gets cooked as a crispy cheesy goodness. Definitely recommend. The service is curt but nice, they just leave you alone but make sure you're settled before they do. One thing that is strange about this place is it's always f*cking FREEZING! Finally had the opportunity to visit. This is a great location just a block up from Jack London Square. The layout is open and ideal on a beautiful sunny day. I could definitely chill here with friends for hours. Plenty of seating indoors and out but with the open design it has a great indoor outdoor feel. I sat at the bar and the servers were all very nice and welcoming. They knew the beers well as well as the history of the brewery. If you're hungry they also serve pizza which I hear is quite delicious. I had already eaten but would like to try the pizza when I come back. Now for beer! Great place for an IPA! Plenty of selection to choose from for all different types of brews but their IPA's are my favorite. We had a large group of 16+ show up on a Friday afternoon with about 5 minutes notice. They had a large table set up and ready to go. The menu was great. We shared appetizers, salad and pizzas of various types. Everything was fantastic. Service was unexpectedly amazing. It felt more like a restaurant than a tasting room with food. The beer was great although I'm a slave to West Coast IPAs so I can't speak for the others (of which there were many). We'll be coming back for sure.
