His long time canine companion and shop dog Daisy (RIP) has been replaced by a sweet rescue named Maisy, who is a ball of affectionate energy. Geoff is the nicest, most knowledgeable fly fisherman on the Central Coast. He is more than happy to help customers from amateurs to experts in outfitting them with the best gear that will fit in their budget. He will not push the highest priced gear, but that which will serve you best. Geoff also carries a fairly extensive mix of flies - from saltwater surf fishing to trout and bass for rivers. He also has an equally wide range of rods for just about every situation. In the event Geoff does not have what you need, he is more than happy to special order it for you. Not sure you want to buy that float tube and waders? No problem, if you ask nicely and he's in a good mood (may take a couple Alaskan ambers), he may let you borrow a set for a day or two. Additionally, Geoff and some of his buddies offer a variety of classes from basic casting clinics to multi-day lessons on how to fly fish the surf. I recently attended a casting clinic to work out some of my kinks. A simple couple hours rekindled my love of the sport. Fly fishing is much more enjoyable when you have the correct form. These classes are worth every penny. Bottom Line: If you have an ounce of interest in getting into the sport, or are looking for some local tips, it is worth your time to pay Geoff a visit. Geoff is the best! I walked in the door wanting to learn to fly fish. I couldn't even qualify as a beginner as I'd never actually picked up a rod. I signed up for Geoff's Intro to Fly Fishing class (highly recommend for newbies), came back for a round of casting lessons, and am now happily obsessed and catching fish. Geoff was welcoming and supportive from day 1 and patiently explained all the tools and gear I'd need to get going (and even steered me away from the things I didn't need). He carries high quality items in the shop and I've been very happy with everything I've purchased. I'm about an hour and a half drive from the shop otherwise I'd be badgering him with my business all the time. That said, he will ship to you if you give him a call. He'll even expedite things if he has the time and ability to do so. I wanted to revisit fly fishing and check my own passion for this beautiful sport as it had been 5 yrs since I was active. I took the one day course for novices. When I was new to the Carmel Valley area I didn't know many women who fly fished, but Geoff helped me network and soon we had a lovely group of women out on the water and in classes .. laughing and having the best time outdoors.
