Delicious food! Excellent service !! Reasonable. Prices ! Clean .. professionally trained people !

My wife and I stopped here for lunch today. We both ordered the prime rib sandwich, medium rare, one iced tea, and one diet Pepsi. Service was good, but not exceptional. Our food was brought to us quite soon after we ordered. The prime rib sandwich's came as requested, medium rare. However, We still had to use my pocket knife to slice out the fattiness and the gristle in the prime rib sandwich's before we ate them. The menu selections were outstanding... The broadest, selection of entrées and appetizers, breakfasts, wraps, sandwiches, salads, seafood, beef, etc., etc., etc., that I've ever experienced in a diner like restaurant. The restaurant itself was clean and spacious. The restrooms were spacious and clean, but very dated. We would have preferred to dine outside because we were traveling with our small dog... However, the outside dining area tables had no umbrellas and no shade. Even though it was a day only in the low 80s/high 70s it would've been too hot to try to eat out there. The bill was $42.36 + $10 tip. I can recommend this restaurant ... And I would dine again there anytime I'm in York, PA. read more

I'm surprised I haven't made a review yet. I've been here multiple times since 2019 and they have never let me down. The coffee is pretty good, I got it with my lunch. Not the best, but definitely good enough to warrant a refill or two. I have noticed that especially the past year or two the majority of servers are juveniles, and some just act like them. One loudly exclaimed to another server "You're making BANK today!" as they were counting their tips. I overheard a couple talking to a waitress and the man said something like 'I still don't know how you got pregnant' and the waitress answered 'By having sex.' Sure it was an accurate answer but it was rhetorical, and she just made it awkward. Being the last day of York's Restaurant Week, I just had to try one of their RW specials they were offering. I got the black and bleu buffalo burger. It was cooked perfectly and had a nice presentation. I think this should be added to the menu permanently, but there's already a lot being offered. It was also priced decently too, $12 for the burger and fries. Although the menu said coleslaw as the side, I got fries instead. To me this is a minor issue, they should have at least let me know and I still would have ordered it but servers should be completely transparent. Our server was excellent; attentive and made us feel welcome. I'm glad we had one of the good ones. My fiancee ordered the turkey and swiss croissant sandwich and the cream of potato soup of the day. She was in love with that sandwich, I could tell because she repeatedly told me that "it was fire." She is extremely picky so this meant a lot to finally take her somewhere and not hear "it's fine." She also really liked her soup too. Overall, this is a reliable, "ol' faithful" staple in York City. A great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner that you know you won't be disappointed. They definitely have a couple quirks but the quality of food always ends up making me full and happy. read more

We have been here multiple times. Yum this is always such a reliable place to eat at! We normally go on Sundays for brunch, and we have eaten here a few times with that. The breakfast section of their menu is smaller than expected, but they have all of the good classics, and even the special. I always have gotten their lunch side. From what I can remember, every time I've gone there I've gotten the same entree, the turkey and swiss croissant sandwich. This sandwich is so tasty! That also includes a yummy bowl of soup as the side. They normally have at least 3 different kinds of soups, and they're always delicious. Typically will have a daily print out saying what their specials are for that day. Service is always good/okay when we go. Last time the wait staff was incredibly loud, but they were mostly teenagers. You can definitely tell that the restaurant is old based on the inside appearance and decor, but whatever it just adds character. read more

Karl and the "gang" treat everyone very well. Seldom do you see the owner walk from table to table to ask how your meal is. Karl always walks the floor! If you don't like your meal, they will do what it takes to make you satisfied. Food is always good and served in a timely fashion. The staff is super kind. I messed up ordering a Buffalo steak (I googled it and it was a picture of a steak that showed up) but anyway to my surprise it was a very large hamburger patty in the shape of a steak my waitress ja-tanya gave me the oh...hunny you poor thing look but did get me the delmonico steak and I'm taking it the manager/owner brought it out and asked how I liked it so because of their kindness they got an added star the food is typical small town diner type of taste/quality nothing extravagant but ok. The name says, "family" and that's what we took there. We had a group of 6 for dinner. We like to eat at locally-owned restaurants, and we weren't disappointed. Server was friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Comfort food and lots of it. Interesting dishes. I had a Shepherd Pot Pie; think shepherd's pie in a crust. Two sides were delicious; the cheesy cauliflower was especially good. Big desserts, including pie. read more

She was very positive and apologetic for everything. My order was not exactly what I wanted. But it was ok. I will come back here . What I did get had a good flavor. I yelped a breakfast spot close and found Central. Yelp reviews led me to a family friendly "hole in the wall" in what appeared to a be a downtown area of York, PA. We did have to make our way thru some off-tilt humans to get there, but when inside, Central lived up to previous reviews. Our hostess was pleasant and the waitress was personable and efficient. The food was served hot, quickly and with grandma kitchen feel. Don't judge a book by its cover - make your way to Central if you are in the area. I stared at Dark Lord Mercival across a Formica tabletop. As a husky man, he was uncomfortable in the narrow booth. And I was fine with that. I wanted him uncomfortable. It was going to be a weird meeting. When the server approached, the smell of fried chicken was in the air and I couldn't resist, but Mercival insisted he could only stay for dessert. As long as I do this job I will never get used to the sight of a dark arts practitioner ordering a hot fudge sundae and sitting in a booth beaming about how "scrumptious" it is. You'd think that enjoyment of something so good would brighten the mood of the old goth freak, but nope. He still wanted the vials of blood from the Schoop Estate. Despite how good the ice cream was, I couldn't convince him to cut me some slack. Still, as we left the establishment to finish our negotiations, I saw him smile, lick the spoon with his forked tongue, and giggle. That's an image that will haunt me. read more

Ordered carry-out from their website at 11:55 for a 1:15 pick-up and card was charged. Arrived at 1:10 to be told "we never got an order and you should have called." Rude, but whatever. Not going to order again and wait, I picked up from elsewhere. Check my phone and have a missed call from delivery.com (their supposed delivery partner) at 12:20 saying that the restaurant cancelled the order and they would process a refund "soon." Food is typical diner food, nothing special but tastes good, but will not be giving them any more business after being lied to about not receiving pickup orders. read more

An absolute favorite for breakfast in York PA . The menu is varied and everything is delicious. They have breakfast specials every day through the week at a reduced cost. They are so good and so inexpensive. You just can't believe it when you get eggs, potatoes, and meat the potatoes are the kind of potatoes that your mom used to peel and fry. I can't say enough good things about the place, I'm going to be moving and I'm going to miss it very very much. My husband and I have been going here for quite a few years. Food has always been good and the variety is nice. I have noticed since vivid they have had new servers and sometimes that takes awhile to work out. Everyone is always pleasant and the owner is usually there asking how everything is, he has created a nice homey place where we see many of the same diners many times. My husband loves the Flintstone ham steat, it takes up the whole plate, also when they have the smoked pork chops they are a favorite. Dang So we decided since it's a Sunday morning and busy we would sit at the counter. It's almost always entertaining and this time it didn't fail us. After listening to the political views of a guy who's probably in his late 200's (Geez) I learned I have the ability to shove wonderful pancakes in my mouth instead of bringing on WW3. The server must have been afraid of Mr 200 cuz it took her 10 minutes of standing at the register to come take our order. The food was very good and I must say that they have the best orange juice. We had never been here before. The wait staff are incredibly friendly, the restaurant is CLEAN, and the food is fantastic! I was unsure of what the soup of the day consisted of & the waitress brought me a sample to try. I ordered the ' chicken supreme' soup and it came served in a bread bowl. First of all the service is very good. I went there because everybody brags about the fried chicken. I don't know if you don't normally season the dredge, but you should. The coating was basically fried flour with no flavor. The dark meat was fine but the white meat was over cooked and dry. I will return for some of the other offerings but not for the fried chicken unfortunately. read more

We were drawn here from the good reviews on yelp (4 star average) but were heartily disappointed in our experience. The service was friendly but extremely slow and our waitress was...forgetful to put it nicely. We ordered sandwiches, wings, and haddock and the food took 45 minutes despite the dining room being mostly empty. When the food arrived, one of our party's order was incorrect and the correction took at least another 20 minutes. We considered getting dessert but shied away from it out of fear of being stuck in the restaurant longer, so we got it to go. The food was average, nothing worth noting in the end. Probably won't come here again. The waitress did end up apologizing, so at least there's that. And the prices were fair, at times good. read more

I don't write a lot of reviews, usually I do when the service is extremely terrible or extremely awesome. This place is by far the latter. My absolute biggest take away from here wasn't really about their food. A couple of weeks ago on a Sunday evening, 8 of my friends and I were driving back to Washington, DC from Harrisburg and decided to stop and get something to eat. When we walked in, the staff were friendly and immediately and easily accommodated all of us. The first thing I did was ask about a plug, as my cellphone was dying (like 15% battery left), my server went off to find out if they could plug it in for me, while I went to my car to grab my own charger. When I came back inside, I approached who I thought was the manager (didn't realize until we were leaving later on that he was actually the owner - super nice guy) and asked about plugging in my phone. He looked in a couple places around the restaurant to see about an open outlet, to no avail. He said he would be right back, and went into the kitchen. I thought he was looking for an open plug in there. Turns out he went to grab his personal industrial looking battery/charger/car starter thing that was about as large as an Xbox controller. Anyway, he handed it to me without hesitation and let me use it to charge my phone while I was there. He ended up leaving without asking for it back, although I did leave it with the manager on duty. He went way above what he had to. I mean seriously he could have just told me flat out no, or looked around not seen any open plugs and said sorry I can't help you, but instead he got something that belonged to him and handed over to a complete stranger. Now that is not just GREAT customer service, that's just being an awesome person. Thanks Karl!! Anyhow, I had the sampler because I wanted to try some different things, including their AWESOME Pumpkin Pie shake that apparently had REAL pumpkin Pie in it. Seriously amazing!! I wanted more. All the food was great because it tasted like it was made from scratch, not store bought BS or frozen and then cooked. It also didn't have that overly greasy, reheated flavor that you usually get at a diner or greasy spoon kind of place. Everyone I was with absolutely loved his or her food as well. A couple of people had some Venison steaks and said they were perfect. Our server couldn't have been friendlier and the over all atmosphere was what we were looking for at the time. The pricing was pretty decent for the amount of food they give you. At any chain restaurant, the same price would barely get you a child size portion. It was well worth it. Honestly, the only complaint anyone had after we left was how horrible it was that they weren't closer to Washington, D.C. The next time I go back north into Pennsylvania, I WILL definitely be stopping in to get some more food from them.
