We are new to the area and always looking for good food and friendly service. This place will not disappoint. Hubby ordered 2 eggs over easy, home fries, and toast with ham steak. He was served a huge piece of ham steak - so big it was on its own plate! I ordered biscuits with sausage gravy and home fries. The portions were very generous- we even brought home leftovers. i can't rave enough about the biscuits - they were fluffy and flaky and homemade. The home fries were definitely made from fresh cut potatoes and were excellent, as well. The menu is extensive and offers something for everyone. The restaurant was immaculate and our server was very friendly and attentive. We had heard that this place was awful, but that was the previous owners. If you had a bad experience here in the past, give it another try. Great food and even better service! read more

I've not had real home made gravy unless, I made it myself for breakfast, since forever. It's always the jarred commercial stuff. My first time we went there since the new folks are running it, (about 4 months ago) and that first taste, it was like a dream come true, for me! It took me back to when grandma made biscuits and gravy. The gravy at RT74, makes the word OUTSTANDING just a word, as it is far beyond that for me! Super friendly waitress, super good food, we love all their improvements also. Since our first time back for breakfast, we have gone for lunch, Fish, with Macaroni n Cheese, AND stewed tomatoes, AWESOME!!! It tasted all freshly made, like real home made!! Then we went there for supper one evening. The Brisket is delicious, juicy, tender, cooked to perfection!! They get our Out Standing, vote on all offerings, for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner!!! I do not write this after one visit, this is from multiple visits over a 4 month span. We simply love their work! read more

Without a doubt, this is one of the best family restaurants around. The staff is some of the most amazing and friendliest people. It feels very homey and comforting. This was our first time here, but it won't be the last!! The food was absolutely delicious. Staff here is great-- super friendly and accommodating. Walked in and we were able to seat ourselves. Unsure if they have high chairs-- I didn't ask because I had a portable chair for my daughter anyway. Everyone LOVED her though. You can tell the customers (bunch of old people) are definite regulars. Service was fast. They brought me a coffee and a water out right away. Glanced at the menu and decided to order the 2 eggs with toast, homefries, and bacon. My friend ordered some omlette. She is on the keto diet and was unaware that they came with homefries mixed inside. No matter, we actually traded breakfasts. Not exactly what I wanted, it came with peppers, onions, and ham inside, but enough hot sauce solved everything! Coffee was hot, but (I may be slightly snobby) left something to be desired. I drank it purely for the caffeine though, hahaha. This was my second visit-- it had been years since I had been back, as we live in a different state now. I suppose I would visit again and perhaps try the French toast or pancakes. All in all, service is worth the 4 star review and the food is more like a 3 for me! read more

A small dinner that is locally own. with young children running around in A.M hours. Reasonable priced menu that brings in a lot of regulars. Portions are good and service is fast and friendly. Food is decent. And what else i seen come out kitchen looked good. The place looked clean. Not sure if it is Covid Compliant. I will come back here. Maybe for dinner. read more

My friend and I were headed to the Dover Antique Mall next door and decided to stop for breakfast. Both of us were sick within 2 hours of eating there. My French toast was not cooked on one side. Which, I didn't notice until after I took 2 bites. Spit the second one out. Loaded with margarine, luckily second batch had butter with it instead. Friends omelette wasn't an omelette it was friend eggs?? Waitress was excellent. And, she apologized profusely. Wouldn't recommend nor eat there again. read more

I was camping nearby for one night, so I decided to give this place a try after reading a few Yelp reviews, and not wanting to clean up the kitchen, in addition to packing up / hooking up the camper for travel home. I walked in, and was able to grab a seat at the small counter, did not wait for a coffee, and the food was out of the kitchen quick. My breakfast was very good. Route 74 is not a large restaurant. The staff there was great, service was personal. Some locals were there as well on a Sunday morning. If the friendly locals are there, you know it is a good place. I will be returning to Route 74 on my next trip to the area. Thank you. read more

I use to go to 74 diner at least twice a week for breakfast. Now that the new owner/owners took over I completely stop going. I gave this place two tries after it took new ownership, the first time it took forever to get a refill on my water and my crab cake sandwich was still frozen in the middle. They did replace the sandwich but I was given no apology and the waitress never checked back on us to see if we needed anything. The second time the food was good but very poor service. I now enjoy my breakfast at Dover Valley Restaurant. read more

This used to be a really good diner. I think every place has its little quirks but since this one was taken over by new ownership at the beginning of 2017, the food is delicious but the service is really lacking. Kelly, the owner, is a very personable person and we'll go out of her way to make things just the way you like them. On the other hand, her wait staff specifically Sabrina, is slow, distracted and generally not very nice to the customers. Unfortunately, I will not give them any more of my money. I hear them many times talking in the back room and even out front about the people who used to own the place and the people for whom they used to work and it's a lot of negativity in front of customers. It's not something that you want to hear when you just want to go for a pleasant breakfast in the morning. read more

Just love going to 74 for the bargain breakfast. My spouse and I always get exactly what we ordered and the taste is awesome. I love that they serve thick rye bread! This is a great little mom & pop place. Not very fancy looking but good food at great prices, good service. I was there today and very happy to see they are now accepting plastic; it used to be cash only and I don't always have much cash on me. They have daily specials and everything I've had here has been very good. Today I had pancakes and ordered three thinking they'd be average sized. They were very large and I was not able to finish them. Very tasty, perfectly done. Side of bacon which was four very large pieces of thick slab bacon. Unlimited coffee and huge breakfast for less than eight bucks. I've had lunch there before, soup and sandwich combo on the special list and it was very good. If I lived closer to this place, I would be there much more often. read more

Everyone is who has eaten out during the last 35 years, agrees Kelly is customer oriented. Route 74 Diner's food is always served fast and hot. I love 22 miles away and alway enjoy the experience. I went to this restaurant for breakfast the other morning. I used to go there all the time as a kid with my Dad and it was always great! However, this time it was horrible!! I ordered the chipped beef on toast with homefries and literally, my FIRST bite not only tasted awful, but had a huge white hair in it! Now, I understand that things like that do happen, but when I told the one waitress about it(shes been there the longest), she was extremely rude and acted like it was MY fault that one of the cooks hairs was in my food. I sent my food back and ordered 2 pieces of french toast instead, but that took about 20 minutes to make!! My boyfriend was done eating before I even got my food. We also ordered a plate of scrapple, and im pretty sure it wasnt even cooked right and it was cold. Both my bf and I are sick now. I wouldnt recommend going here honestly. read more
