I met with Dr. Matthew Hinsley after determining I had an overactive parathyroid gland which caused my calcium level to be too high. Dr. Hinsley removed the parathyroid gland and my calcium is back to normal. Other than a sore throat from the breathing tube I had no other related pain or discomfort. Throughout the procedure process I was totally informed and I can't speak highly enough about Dr. Hinsley's professionalism and skill. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because when you call Central Oregon ENT it is rare you can ever talk to someone. You end up in an extensive phone tree which results in leaving a voicemail message which the robot says will be returned within 24 business hours. That rarely happens and you are lucky to ever get a call back. Thus, you end up calling again and going through the same routine. read more

I needed a refill for some ointment for my ear canal, they wouldn't refill it without an appointment, I went in just to get the refill but the doctor looked into my ear canal before she ordered the refill it took about two minutes and got a charge of about $300, my insurance paid for some but I feel the charge is outrageous. Plus the doctor ordered the wrong ointment which I had to pay for then had to pay again for the correct ointment. They care more about the money than care for the patients. I'll be finding another ENT in the future read more

I have never been so disappointed in quality of care. I went in for an excruciating ear problem was given the run a round, by Dr. Bagwell (no longer there thank goodness) told to take Flonase and then when he finally referred me to a specialist (failed to mention he was in Portland ) who took four months to tell me that based on the referral, he wasn't the right person. I called the local Central Oregon ENT office multiple times trying to see if someone else in the office could help only to be pushed off. When I finally showed up for my appointment, I was slightly late because of roadwork and they told me they needed to reschedule me. I explained how long I've been waiting and my situation and it didn't matter. I rarely take time to write something like this, but I am so disappointed, they aren't the only game in town. If you're looking to make your sinuses worse while facing months of recovery and tens of thousands of dollars of cost look no further. The one thing I asked before surgery was if it would change my nose shape, I was assured by Gallivan it would not. I now have a sunken in look on one side because he removed excessive cartilage. Additionally, my nose collapses anytime I inhale making breathing even more difficult. I've had worse issues with mucous production than I ever have and cannot smell as well as before the surgery. I would never get a surgery done by him ever again. This man should be retired. Learn from my mistake and stay away. read more

At my first appointment, they asked me to come early due to an opening - then I waited over 30 minutes past the earlier time. The same thing happened at my follow-up - I waited over 30 minutes. More concerning is the lack of follow-through. A Prior Authorization that should have been submitted over a month ago still hasn't been addressed. I called on March 9 and, as of March 17, haven't received any update. On top of that, getting someone on the phone is a hassle - long hold times with no clear resolution. Overall, the office feels very disorganized and unprofessional. I wouldn't recommend based on my experience. And Google reviews can be misleading since people may avoid leaving negative feedback tied to their name. read more

I confirmed when I made the appointment and before services were rendered that procedures would be covered by insurance and I'd only need to pay my copay, then received a bill for nearly $250. When I called billing, they told me to call my insurance company, which (of course) said I needed to discuss it with the doctor's office. I tried speaking to the doctor's front desk, because when I'd previously received the same treatment from Dr. Gallivan, which made up half these charges (same insurance), I was only charged the copay. They directed me toward the practice manager. Of course, I'm still on the hook for the full $250. I would've appreciated if, when I made the appointment and the front desk told me they had confirmed my benefits, they let me know that the procedures would not be covered the way they were previously/that I would be paying out of pocket. I drove an hour and 15 minutes from crooked River Ranch for a 7:45 AM appointment. I was 11 minutes late and I was rudely told at the front desk that I was late and they run a tight schedule and they couldn't fit me in and then I needed to reschedule at a later date. I drove an hour and 15 minutes with some traffic concerns and I couldn't speed so I don't understand why you couldn't put me in there is nobody in the lobby no people waiting no phone is ringing and I was told I had to leave. Good luck! The VA referred me to this place. I've been trying for over a week every day to get hold of them to make an appointment. My shortest wait was 18 minutes and my longest wait has been 47 minutes on the phone listening to annoying music and have yet to speak to a person. No option to leave a message and no-one is calling me to make the appointment for the referral they received. I gave up trying and waiting for a new referral someplace else. BEWARE of their lack of customer support after the appointment. Their office has been sending me the same incorrect bill for two years. They are trying to bill me for an appointment I had in their eastside office where the doctor excused themselves in the middle of my appointment and never came back into the room to finish my appointment. I was told on the day that the office manager would call me to either reschedule or not bill me for the appointment, and the office manager has not returned my calls for two years. And yet they keep sending me a bill for $385. Every time I get the bill I call the billing department to contest the bill and every time they tell me that they will have the office contact me and/or delete the charges. I've walked in and stood at the counter and politely asked to talk to the office manager to correct this bill and was told the office manager was at lunch and would contact me later that day. That never happened. It's been TWO YEARS of this office never once returning my call about the bill that they send me over and over again. This is the most unethical and/or incompetent doctors office I've even had to deal with. Avoid them at all costs. read more

Visiting from Wyoming and needed assistance with my hearing aids. They were friendly and helpful on the phone. And even though they don't carry my specific brand of hearing aid, they invited me in to assist with my problem. Once there, they continued to be friendly and helpful. They cleaned, replaced parts and serviced my hearing aids immediately. I was pleasantly surprised that they did it all as a free customer service. Headed back to Wyoming with hearing aids that work great and wonderful memories of my new friends at Central Oregon Ear, Nose and Throat. They saw that I had an appointment but that it had been cancelled. I did not cancel it and they had no explanation as to why they cancelled it. I'd had a ongoing problem with ear infections and he took the time to hear my entire story. June 2020, Matthew Hinsley performed an open nose, (using ear cartilage) Septoplasty on me. The left nostril was partially blocked (deviated septum) and he put a spreader in and cleared it. All the paperwork going into the surgery and all the conversations were for a septoplasty. I even said I would rather 'breathe less than look different". This is substantiated on our paperwork. The surgery which took the better part of a day, left me with a bulbous nose and a rhinoplasty as I later discovered. He told me that he would put a refund into his insurance company to get me reimbursed. Almost 2 years later Dr. Hinsley told me he actually performed a 'functional rhinoplasty' even though the paperwork (hospital admission paperwork and forms I signed from his office) said otherwise. He took the Cartlidge from the front of my right ear and the earlobe was left looking different than the other one. After a few weeks, complaining about the big nose and down turned nostrils, he had me come into his office and he numbed up my nose and decided to try to correct the nostrils so they would look alike. He unstitched and stitched on the left side which was the better side instead of even bothering with the right side which was problematic because he put a spreader on the right side, unnecessarily. And that left me with a turned down nostril and convex shape that created much of the Bulbousness. I have a very clear phone message where he said it can be fixed and he would return his portion of the money to me. When I went back in after two years to show him that the 'swelling' had not completely gone down because it was no longer swelling but an ugly result of what he did without permission... he indeed agreed it was 'unfortunate' and then told me he performed a functional rhinoplasty! He also told me to 'sue him' if I wanted my money back. He assured me for many months that he was going to do the right thing. Earlier Dr. Hinsley suggested I go see one of his teaching doctors at OSHU (I did) who advised me that he could make me look better and also agreed it was unfortunate. He also suggested that I seek some psychological help because it was depressing to me. Dr. Hinsley should keep his word and reimburse me his fees as he promised in his phone message to me. Telling a patient to sue him after he changes his mind about a promised refund, is not an acceptable bedside manner. I trusted him on his word that he would reimburse me and when he said it could be fixed. (Apparently he meant on my own dime) He did not listen to me and he messed with my nose while I was unconscious and unable to defend myself. read more

This place is awful. Went in for chronic sinusitis and allergies that I've dealt with most of my life, and was given a prescription for an asthma medication and nasal spray by Dr. Gallivan (which I distinctly told him causes significant irritation to the point of nosebleeds, and I wanted to avoid - his advice was to just angle the spray nozzle...) Scheduled my followup appointment and was called with 3 separate reminders giving a different start time for my appointment in each one. During followup visit, Dr. Gallivan stuck a scope up my nose for maybe 30 seconds (which caused significant irritation for the next 3 days), and effectively said "nothing there". Had another followup appointment a few days later for allergy testing. The tech performing the test was friendly, but fairly unprofessional as well. I had to have my shirt off so she could do the test on my back, and she left the door wide open for the 90+ minute procedure, then 2 minutes before we finished, she asked "do you mind if the door is open? it just gets stuffy in here sometimes." On top of that, I was apparently significantly reactive, because I kept hearing "Oh... oh wow" and other sounds of astonishment. She then went to grab a doctor to take a look, who also just glanced and said "oh that's really bad" then walked out. Am I a sideshow? Dr. Verheyden (the ogling doc from the test) then came back in after the testing was complete, and said "Ok, yeah this is really bad. Did you just want to see what you're allergic to, or do you want to get treatment?" WHAT DO YOU THINK??? Was told of my options, and when I sounded less than pleased with them, she left and had someone in billing come in who was rather cold and seemed annoyed to have to talk to me - great bedside manner. After that, I was told that someone would reach out to set up the next appointment to get my actual treatment, but I had to call them after 3 weeks of nothing. Fast forward another week or so, and I get a $500+ bill for the scope procedure, and after calling to understand the exorbitant cost, the billing lady has the audacity to tell me that I'm behind on two copays for the last two visits, hardly addressing the scope procedure. After every visit, I asked the front desk staff if I needed to pay on my way out, to which they just said "no" without really looking up from what they were doing. In short - don't go unless you've got the best insurance in the world and your deductible is fully met, otherwise you're gonna pay out of pocket for sneaky, overcharged BS. Their operation seems to be "get-in, get-out, and pay-what-we-say" kind of office, with no prior indication as to procedure costs, insurance coverage, etc. Thoroughly unhappy with this office and will not be returning. read more

Beware if you need surgery! If you want to feel like you are receiving your healthcare from a swindling used car salesman, this is the place for you. The only reason this got 2 stars is because Dr. Renton is exceptional. Unfortunately I was referred to Dr. Gallivan for sinus surgery. Every time I saw him, it was like he had no idea why I was there and I had to retell my whole story. Watching him browbeat his MA during every single visit was awkward and unprofessional. I told him (the MA) that I was so sorry for the disrespectful way the doctor spoke to him and he said "it's ok. I'm used to it." That is NOT ok. I had sinus surgery to correct a deviated septum and I signed the acknowledgment waiver that they turned around and used against me to try to charge as much as they wanted. My insurance initially denied a portion of the balloon dilation and I was told by the billing department that it often happens because it's considered experimental. Then why didn't you do your effin' job and get a prior authorization?? They put it back on me and said they will not work with my insurance to get it paid. So I had to pay to get my records and send them myself. My insurance paid for the surgery in full and yet I got another bill for $800. I called and explained that the claim was paid in full and was told that my insurance company did not pay them correctly and I am on the hook for this. Again, they refused to work with my insurance company. I told them that if they don't like the contracted rate, that sounds like a negotiation issue between COENT and Blue Cross. It was then that I was threatened with collections, to which I responded with threats of reporting them for fraud. Unfortunately for them, I audit insurance companies for a living and I know that you cannot balance bill a patient above and beyond the contracted rate. I didn't hear from them again after that. I'm furious that they are taking advantage of people who don't understand insurance and probably fraudulently charging patients. A year later I saw another ENT who asked if I knew that I have a severely deviated septum. Uh... I just paid a couple thousand dollars to have that corrected. What did they do? Punch me in the nose and then charge me for a septoplasty?! P.S. I did report them for fraud. read more

Danger!!! Do NOT go to this clinic, THEY ARE TERRIBLE, AWFUL, HORRIBLE and not very good at all at what they say they do! My partner experienced a sudden loss of hearing in one ear. She is an elder, and she knows her body. This clinic did not let her see a doctor on her first visit...just a PA and has not listened to what she has told them, suggested repeating tests that shed no light on what caused her hearing loss. NOW, CO ENT is threatening her with sending her account to COLLECTIONS. They DID NOTHING TO IMPROVE HER CONDITION!! She is a single senior citizen who lives solely on Social Security. The most recent letter she received from CO ENT was threatening, and rude. She called the clinic and the young man on the phone was rude and uncaring...and quite uninformed about what would trigger a threat of sending her account to collections. If you're wondering how much she owns this clinic, it's a fair question. It's not Thousands of dollars, it's not even Hundreds of dollars...it a measley little $15 bill that they are sending threatening collection letters to her for. $15 that if they don't get an immediate payment, they are willing to destroy her credit over. I call Bullshit on this! CO ENT, time for you to go out of business. We have lived in Bend for over 40 years and we will tell as many people as we know about your unscrupulous billing practices. My two older daughters had surgery here , one for big sinus issues , adenoids removal and a deviated septum. The other daughter had her adenoids removed. We always arrived 15 minutes early to our appointments, it's the airline pilot in me. I'm never late. However I realize life happens , mainly traffic. We just always gave plenty of time. This office is a fine tuned watch , so being on time if not early is KEY folks. We weren't the only people on the schedule. Dr Bagwell and Dr. Gallivan are wonderful, caring Doctors. They both did amazing surgery, both daughters are doing GREAT , no sinus issues at ALL. This time last year we had to many infections to counts. Thank you , Thank you!!!! read more

Dr. Ryan Gallivan, MD is an absolute QUACK! One office visit cost my husband $900 to look in his nose. In addition, he pushes pharmaceuticals full of known, horrific side effects, including addiction and mental issues. He could care less about the cause; he'd rather put a Band-Aid on it. It was suggested that he have CT scan for headaches from sinus issues, you have to be kidding me! Sinuses cause headaches, it's not rocket science. DO NOT waste your time, money or effort with this greedy doctor who has zero knowledge on what causes sinus issues. Absolutely infuriating experience! Since declining all treatment suggestions from Dr. Gallivan, a naturopath (Dr, Emma Baker) discovered food allergies that caused the problems. END of sinus issues. It cost $50 in copays to come up with the issue and solution. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS office's incompetence. The blatant upcharges and ridiculous tests suggested speaks volumes about lining pockets for no damn good reason. read more

This month I had surgery from Dr. Peter Shepard. I couldn't be more happy with the entire experience. Mostly importantly, the four hour surgery on my face went very well. I am healing nicely, I had almost no pain, I'm not all scarred up and the tumor removed was not cancer. That is what is important. I think it's important to keep perspective on what's important. Also, the front office staff was at all times courteous and efficient, I didn't have one problem. The pre-surgery people helped me understand the process and answered all my questions. I had a minor problem after surgery and the on-call doctor on a Sunday called me right back. We are absolutely lucky to have wonderful surgeons like Dr. Peter Sherpard here in Bend. Previously my surgeon was Dr. Justin Hill who was also an excellent surgeon but sadly he moved away. COENT has excellent surgeons. read more

Easily the worst doctors office experience I've ever had. It was my first time at this clinic. So I got there 15 minutes early to do paperwork, as you do. My appointment was at 10. They were fairly quick to call me in for my hearing test. I maybe waited 10 minutes tops. The hearing test took 20 minutes. So at 10:30 I was back in the waiting area waiting for Dr. Gallivan. His nurse had noticed that I was waiting for a while and took the time to come tell me that the doctor was running around 30 minutes behind. So around 11:30 they called me into a room where I waited another 20 minutes. Dr. Gallivan took about 7 minutes (or less) to do my exam. He seemed incredibly rushed and thrown off. He claimed that I was fine and that I just needed allergy medicine and that if something is wrong, it's probably related to TMJ which means I need to see a dentist. He made my pain feel invalid and made up. He wants to see me in 6-8 weeks but I told him and the receptionists that I won't be coming back and that I would like my $40 copay refunded. The receptionist laughed in my face when I said that. She, and I quote, said "you're not serious are you?" Side note - the woman who was sitting next to me in the waiting room said she waits and waits every single time she comes to this ENT. Good to know it wasn't just me... seems like this place needs to get their sh*t together. read more

After reading other reviews...the appointment person and the check in person were friendly...no complaints about the staff. However, now I'm a little fearful how much my bill will be. My wife had recently begun suffering from tinnitus. She made an appointment with Dr. Renton at CO ENT. He examined her and couldn't find anything wrong so he had her get an MRI of her inner ear. Her out of pocket for the MRI was over $500. She never heard back from the practice about her results, so she called. They told her she'd have to see the doctor again to get the results. Since I had an appointment to see him, they told us to come at the same time. When we went, he examined my ears and did some cleaning. Then when it was her turn, he told her that it was good news-- the MRI had tested negative for any irregularities or tumors. He did not exam her at all. He just told her that there was nothing more he could do for her and told her to see someone else to see if the tinnitus was caused by TMJ or some other problem. She was pretty pissed and felt that he didn't really care about solving her problem. She paid her $80 specialist copay. We later received a bill for additional services for the visit. $274 for some test and $77 for some microscope exam. Her balance after the $80 copay and adjustments was $64. We called the CO ENT to question these charges, as Dr Renton hadn't even looked in her ear at the appointment. They continued to bill us. So we called back again. When approached with our discontent, he basically fired us as clients and told us to go elsewhere. read more

My wife really liked the doctors, and had seen two for our youngest child who is on the autism spectrum. Dr. Renton in particular was great with our son. Unfortunately the incompetence of their billing department outweighs all that: Our son had a procedure in his ear August 2018. The office stated that every single provider is in network with our insurance. On the morning of the procedure, my wife did not sign any documents with a fee attached. It said on their own website they were providers for our widely accepted insurance plan. Then we were billed for the entirety of the procedure despite the fact that our deductible had been met, and the provider was supposed to have been in network for our insurance. It has been a year of calling back and forth with our insurance provider and the office, and we are just done and tired. Hours of sorting. Escalating it, and opening over and over again. As it turns out, their billing department dropped the ball and the provider (Dr. Renton) went out of the country and his contract was not renewed. My wife asked billing numerous times if they would allow us to pay the in network cost for the procedure due to THEIR error. This is despite the fact that we should not have had to pay them a dime because as I stated, our yearly in network deductible had been completely satisfied. Messages were sent to "Lauren" repeatedly. No acceptance of that, instead they doubled-down on their mistake and continued sending us bills. Our insurance gave us a direct line to Lauren who they said may be able to help. My wife asked again for the 20th time if they can consider it in network. After stating that we would no longer be patients, nor recommend this office my wife hung up. Kicking a dead horse, I tried to call Lauren myself. She stated that my wife was rude and that I was rude. Well....after a year of trying to work with them to resolve the issue we may have been a bit forthcoming but neither of us were rude. If anything, Lauren was very rude to us and refused to own up to her mistake regarding dropping the ball on renewing Dr. Renton's contract with our insurance. Lauren finally told me that she would speak to Dr. Renton about writing off the bill and expelling us as patients because we were "rude" to her. Read through the other reviews...the billing is something that seems reoccurring and poorly addressed. They have some great providers and it is very unfortunate that the extremely poor attitude of one person in the billing department has soured us on ever returning, even if we hadn't been "expelled". read more

I first saw doctor Richards for my ear issues, he was professional and kind throughout the visit and explained what could possibly be happening. Then, I saw doctor Gallivan who spoke quickly and didn't give me much chance to speak about the situation. I have been having health issues for a year now and at the very beginning, the ER doctors in the my area told me it "could be" atypical migraines but I was never treated or talked to further on it. It have been told by my PCP for 8 month that I have sinus infections and fluid in my ears so obviously that's what I would think it happening. When doctor Gallivan asked me if I thought it was migraines, I said I did not think so (based on what I have been told by my doctor for months). At the end of the visit, doctor Gallivan told me that "the same way you crumpled up the ER doctors opinions and threw them in the trash about it being migraines, that is what I'm doing about you're opinion of it not being that." I was also made to watch a video there about primary headache conditions. I did get some information but in a way that made me feel stupid. Definitely didn't feel like a trauma-informed office. read more

I was whisked back so quickly I didn't have time to finish my paperwork. But they didn't care. It was left unfinished. The appointment went so fast that I hardly had time to to tell my symptoms or ask questions. I was told I am going deaf in my left ear. No explanation as to how bad it is or what I should expect. No one looked in my ear. She briefly suctioned out my ear wax, that took about ten seconds on each ear. She was not interested in hearing much about my story. Everything I said she contradicted, and didn't give me time to say anything about how my hearing loss had been progressing, including the fact that it had just gotten worse in the past two weeks along with a new and alarming tinnitus. Without doing any physical exam she told me I definitely had TMJ and needed physical therapy and that no medication would be offered for my hearing loss because it was permanent, even though steroids can be given for recent hearing loss, which I have had. I was told see ya later, we'll check out how deaf you are next year, and oh yeah, you might have a tumor. The whole experience was about ten minutes for a hearing exam, ten minutes in the office, please don't ask any questions. I felt disrespected and that the woman who saw me, Myra Baker, is callous and cold, and could care less if I understand my hearing issue or if I become deaf tomorrow as my current condition continues. Many things cause deafness and tinnitus, not just TMJ. Maybe you should investigate those things before gatekeeping me out of an actual physical exam. My regular PA did more looking in my ears than this woman did. And she's not an ear specialist. At least she LOOKED unlike the woman at COENT. Have been left in a panic trying to decide where else to go as some of my hearing loss symptoms are new. And the ear pain is very intense, it went 100 percent unaddressed. read more

HAD THE rudest phone call just know,My grandson was transported from Madras to bend and had emergency surgery thru here. HE HAS OHP I was not told at any time in the hospital it wouldn't be covered, and get a Rude call from a lady there stating your grandson received surgery at St Charles and I said yes and she said He was not covered that our office doesn't take OHP and proceeded to be rude...offered me her direct line but I said no I'm good I prefer to talk to someone that has respect. read more

I had a nosebleed problem. Talked to front office staff. They made copies of my medical cards (Medicare and BC/BS Federal). The next day they called and made an a'ppt with Dr. Shepard. He cauterized the problem and did a fine job. THE PROBLEM was, Dr. Shepard was not on BC/BS Federal medical insurance. So, they sent me the bill (3 Months in a row). I wouldn't pay it and finally I sent the front office a letter stating the problem. They wrote the debt off and then asked where I wanted my records sent!!! They kicked me out when it was their mistake, not mine. I was a patient there before this new outfit came in. Lousy business practices!! D. Aldous read more

Even though all the reviews here are awful, it seems these are the only ENT docs in town...so we are stuck with them. I called another doc of mine and Dr Gallivan was recommended. I was on hold for 17 MINUTES, waiting to schedule an appointment. NOT off to a great start. read more
