Local neighborhood independent pharmacies are the best and Central Pharmacy is certainly one is noteworthy! The pharmacists and staff take the time and effort to greet you and get to know you. Central pharmacy just caused me a major inconvenience im handicapped and live in Richmond ca. rite down the street from the pharmacy but my doctor is in Oakland. once a month I get on Bart and go to my appointment in Oakland from Richmond wich also cost me money so since I wouldn't have to go back and forth to Oakland to pick up my medication my doctor had it sent to central but all of a sudden I get a pharmacist that think she knows better than my doctor and tells me I don't need my medication mind you she doesn't know me from a can of paint doesn't know my medical history or anything about me but decides she wants to go on a power trip and has my meds sent all the way back to highland if this isn't illegal it should be a pharmacist over riding a doctor's prescription for nothing more than a power grab. what gives central pharmacy the rite to play with people's medication and people's lives this is unbelievable that they have these type of people working for them if you want to be a doctor go back to school but as long as your just working in the pharmacy then do the job your hired to do and that job is not to power trip on patients that need there meds now I have to figure out how im going to get all the way back to Oakland to grab my meds they could have just gave me up the street read more

I haven't been to this pharmacy in many years due to having moved out of the neighborhood many years ago. But when I lived nearby, I always went there for my pharmaceutical needs. The service was always excellent, the pharmacist was intelligent, knowledgable, competant, helpful and very compassionate. If I lived nearby, I would still go there for all my pharmaceutical needs. It was the best pharmacy, in terms of competant, kind and caring service, of any I have been to in my (68 years of) life. read more

This is by far the best pharmacy experience I've ever had and it's consistent. I will never go anywhere else so long as it's available to me. They are the kindest people who work there and pick up the phone direct when you call. They work with you to get what you need from your doctor. They seem to know everyone who walks in, or they make it a point to do so. It's a little bit of a bummer that they are closed on weekends but their customer service and efficiency make up for that. They are completely unmatched. I wish all businesses where like this one. read more

It is sad to say but, common courtesy and excellent customer service seem to be a lost art...However, Bob and the gang at Central Pharmacy are the greatest!!! They provide excellent examples of how to use common courtesy and excellent customer service. If you are having a bad day, upon leaving this pharmacy, you will feel much better thanks to the staff. I don't feel like a customer, I feel like I am family whenever I'm there. All of the staff at Central Pharmacy efficiently processes my orders or any concerns I may have and offers the fastest service in the Richmond area. Been a long while since I been there ,but the neighborhood was "interesting". I remember it being set in a small strip mall next a a blood donation center ,which was next to a liquor store. I was there early one morning to do a service call at the drugstore and folks would cash their blood checks at the liquor store for a for a couple of 40's. The pharmacists were nice guys and had some great stories about forged scripts. The were always subpoenas tacked up on the bulletin board in the back for these guys to testify in court. But after a while of seeing those folks get off free ,they decided it wasn't worth the hassle of turning the forged scripts in,so they just ripped them up and told them quit writing their own. read more

I was very sad when Civic Center Pharmacy closed, but the sadness dissipated since all my prescriptions were transferred to Central Pharmacy, its "sister" store. The staff here are every bit as intelligent, thoughtful, thorough, efficient and friendly as I was accustomed to at Civic Center. My only reason for not giving it five stars is that parking can be a real hassle: There are often no parking spaces and if you DO get one in the front parking lot, backing out into crazy busy McDonald Avenue is a challenge. (Some of the drivers on McDonald drive loco.) I am disabled, so parking on the street is not a pleasing option but CAN be done. The store is very secure, brightly lit, and they advertise right on the door that they don't carry oxycontin, which probably helps protect them and their patrons from drug-seeking, scurrilous individuals. They close at 6 p.m., Monday through Friday and are closed weekends and major holidays. I very much prefer going to this non-chain pharmacy where the staff learn to recognize their patrons and one isn't relegated to being just a nameless face at the huge chain pharmacies. read more
