Will I say Spanish food is my go to cuisine? No, but Cepas always keeps it fresh with rotating plates and something new I have never tried before. I always look forward to trying a couple new tapas on the happy hour menu along with a couple drinks for the wife and I. Worthy of 4 stars Service is typically very accommodating and helpful. However the last time me and my family went there was a bit of a letdown. First of all it was 8 of us so they sat us at the first table when you walk in on the right. Things were going well, however after the first 10-15 minutes we realized everyone was freezing! There was a vent pushing air non stop on us and it was not enjoyable. Towards the end we had to actively leave to go outside to warm up. You may ask, did you inquire with the team to assist to see about turning the air down? We sure did, the host working that day (May 2nd evening time) said there is nothing we can do, we can't move you now that you've sat down and that they typically tell people to bring a jacket if they plan on sitting them there. Well great! Problem solved, we appreciate absolutely no heads up and now we are not enjoying our time. There was also an event going on the patio, to which they had all left and lingering outside/parking lot area, we inquired again with the host to see if we could go on the patio for the remainder of our drinks. She also said no, as there was still some time left on that parties reservation (even though no one was there). All in all, horrible host, and I won't be back with a large family after spending $400+ with the potential risk of sitting and freezing our a$$ off. We left before ordering. We have been faithful customers of the original Cepas on West Village for years ~ at least weekly. My wife and I love the place and always are accompanied by her service dog. We went to the new location tonight for our second visit (again with the service dog). The hostess was clearly uncertain about the dog. After consulting with someone else we were relegated to the empty rear of the restaurant at a table between the kitchen and the restrooms. What a hidden gem this is!! I literally come to this plaza all the time with my daughter when we go to the gym and had no idea this place was there. Came with some out of town friends that chose this place. The reviews were good so I was intrigued. Glad we came because we fell in love with no one the food but the service as well. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Indoor is tight given it's a small place. But don't let that fool you because the food is very good. We got a sampling of various tapas, the Rioja Sampler, paella negra and dessert. The rioja sampler allowed us to try various cheese and ham selections which we enjoyed all that was on the board. The white sangria was tasty, had a cinnamon taste which was different. I think the paella was my favorite. The dish bursted with flavor! A must try! Service was amazing. Lovely experience at dinner time on a Friday night. It was packed both the inside and the outdoor patio. Friendly service. We did end up getting an extra dish by mistake so that was great. This was the first time my Spanish husband and I dined at Cepas Wine and Tapas Bar. We missed their 4-6 food happy hour by 1 minute, but made it for their 4-7 drink happy hour. I ordered sangria and my husband ordered a beer then changed his mind and had their house wine. We shared 3 hot tapas: Pulpo a la Gallegas (Octopus & Potatoes), Champiñones al Ajillo (Mushrooms & Garlic), and Albondigas (meatballs). I enjoyed all 3 appetizers with the Pulpo always being my favorite duAlbondigasring my many visits to Spain. Our server told us that 1 paella was more than enough for 2 people and can also be shared among 4 people if tapas were also ordered. So we decided on the Paella Negra because it's been so long since I've had that dish in Spain and it's one of my favorite Spanish dishes. It wasn't as good as the one we get in Spain, but it was damn close. It was very good. Most importantly, my husband is from the Barcelona area and he is what I would call a Spanish food and wine snob. He thought there were no Spanish restaurants making authentic and good Spanish food in the USA except for a restaurant inside a gas station in Miami (But I'll be sure to yelp about that the next time we go there. Another story for another day)... at least until we ate here. He said the food was delicious and was the same or pretty close to being the same quality Spanish food from back in Spain. Here's a little fun fact: My hubby and I (mostly me) were curious about whether the owners were from Spain. So he asked our server and it turns out they are from Peru and they are the same husband and wife owners of the Peruvian Restaurant next door called Terra Sur! Apparently the owners did their researcAlbondigash and managed to capture the essence of Spanish cuisine in their quaint tapas bar. I do really enjoy this spot for a weeknight glass of wine and tapas. The only draw back is it closes pretty early. Every time I've been in after 8:30 I'm told the kitchen is closing soon.
