Was here two years ago when it was great, came back for the first time since on a visit down... not the same restaurant. With a nearly empty restaurant, it still took an extremely long time to get our food... about fifteen minutes for the apps and then and additional half hour until we received our entrees. The clam + lamb sausage scampi was very bbq-y, not very appetizing for a pasta entree. Additionally the ricotta gnocchi was sub-par. The gnocchi were fried, squishy balls of potato dough... absolutely terrible. The crab it came with must have been defrosted since the time of my order. I made reservations months ahead of time as it was our first time in Savannah and we were celebrating our anniversary. This place had good reviews and to say the least we were disappointed. We got stuck in a very small and uncomfortable table that wobbled. Our appetizers were just okay (ceviche and beef carpaccio) nothing spectacular about either but little did we know that was the most edible portion of our meal. Dinner I got the gnocchi which was so overly fried it was dry inside and the pork board minus the whiskey and that too was something unimpressive. Husband got the the stuffed chicken which was okay. Ultimately it's overpriced, unimpressive, and uncomfortable dinning. Would not go back or recommend. read more

Cute spot with heaters in the outdoor patio. Nice ambience and I appreciated the fire projection they had on the wall. The food, however, was rather average. The seafood risotto was quite heavy in fish flavor and the gnocchi was slightly thick. I would not recommend the lentil and burrata, as the lentils were particularly flavorless. read more

What a disappointing experience! We are in town celebrating a birthday and wanted a farm to table place. Cha Bella came up as highly rated. I made a reservation for 7:30 this evening. We waited at the host stand for 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We were seated. It was 10 minutes before they came to take a drink order. I asked about specials before the waiter walked away, sensing that he might not be back for a while. It took 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Then one of the drink orders was incorrect. At 8:15, our dinner order had not been taken. Finally at 8:20 the waiter came back to take our order. At 8:45 we ordered more drinks. Then at 9, after asking, our food came out, but had clearly been sitting in the back for a while. The shrimp on the risotto was terribly overcooked. Two identical orders looked vastly distant. The pork belly was ice cold and came out on a small plate, with the sweet potato puree looking like baby food. We decided that we weren't going to eat the food because it was such a poor experience. We spoke to a manager, who we thought was a waiter. He apologized and told us we didn't need to pay for anything including the drinks. We left $$ on the table and left. Highly disappointing. For the high cost we were hoping for a better service experience. Our server was very rarely around and a bit snippy with us as well. We ended up having to get another server to take our checks after waiting over 20 minutes for ours to come back and missed the first half of a concert due to his constant absence. Disappointed! Our first time in Savannah and friends who have been before us raved about Cha-Bella, so we made reservation well in advance. Once we arrived in Savannah and started talking with locals who asked where we were dining and we mentioned Cha-Bella, they all said, "it's fabulous". We dined at Cha-Bella our second evening in Savannah and our first impression was that it was quaint but quiet. It was a Wednesday, so maybe we did not need the reservation. We sat outside on the covered terrace as it was unseasonably warm but had the place to ourselves. The cocktails, appetizers and wine were all fine. Two in our party had the ribeye, good but not exceptional. Another had the fillet of beef, good again but not phenomenal. A la carte veg sides, potatoes and asparagus were fine but nothing special. I ordered the special seared grouper. It was served about 5 minutes after the rest of the meals as though it had been forgotten. The server dropped it and dashed. Upon cutting into it, it was clearly RAW. Sushi raw and it's not a sushi dish. I'm from coastal New England and eat a lot of fish. Not shy about rare fish if it's meant to be rare or sushi that is meant to be sushi. This was not that. To make matters worse, the server never returned to check on our meals. We finally had to stand up and find the manager, who threw his hands up in the air exasperated. The server returned, cleared the raw fish and never asked if I wanted anything else or how the other meals were. He did eventually bring me a free glass of wine and topped up my wife's glass. Fortunately, between the ribeye's and fillet, we had enough food to share. My wife and I have both been involved in the hospitality industry at various times and are accepting and even sensitive to the fact that kitchens can have an "off night". Mistakes happen but it's how a restaurant handles the mistake that matters to us. Cha-Bella failed miserably in the handling of our experience and that is what upsets us. Met Michael, the owner and bartender on our last visit and he was welcoming and super attentive. The outdoor area is unique with swings, outdoor projector and cozy seating. Seriously cant be beat. Everything about my experience was terrible. We had a bigger party so our waiter was disrespectful to us knowing he would get his tip anyways. Our food was unsalted and had absolutely no flavor. Our vegetables appeared to be frozen despite the fact that this is a "farm to table" restaurant. I could get better produce from a 7/11. Made the reservation for our anniversary and the hostess stated that the earliest they could take us (2 people) was 8:30. That was fine as we'd both had a late lunch and eat late as well. When we got there, the restaurant was not even half full. But, whatever. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the service was excellent. The food was pretty good but not spectacular. Everything is stated as being local, which appeals greatly to us, though I'm not sure where you get "fresh" local raspberries in October. Good wine and craft beer list. Prices on everything are reasonable. I feel that based on the calibre of food, Cha Bella can be enjoyed several times a week and not limited strictly to special occasions. We loved our experience at Cha Bella. Our waitress, Rachell, was so kind and had great recommendations for our entree's. We got the seafood fettuccine, and the noodles were homemade and the seafood was fresh. The bread was homemade. The best thing we had was the cheese cake, made from goat cheese with an oatmeal and brown sugar crust, and drizzled with honey. So good, and so was the cab. Worst experience In a meal ever. Horrible way to serve thanksgiving meal, bringing the meat and dressing out without any sides for 30 minutes. We never received gravy or a little extra turkey that was asked for and i never was asked if i wanted a refill of tea. The tables drinking alcohol were asked many times if they wanted refills however... the table next to us didnt even receive their meat until the end of their meal!! They seemed irritated as well. Horribly RUDE waiter while all we were was patient, kind and gracious. The food was good but the experience was an absolute disappointment!!! I was in Savannah this past weekend on a girls trip (11 girls, woo!) and we saw this cute little place on our way to the beach one day. We decided to make a reservation for later that night and they had no problem taking our large group. When we got there they had set up a BEAUTIFUL table outside for us in their adorable little patio area - with outdoor lights, a projector screen, an herb garden and swings! Not only was it SO cute, the food, the drinks and the service was AMAZING. Barber James took such good care of us (and we are not an easy group...). He gave us his menu recommendations, took pictures for us, and told us all the cool local spots to got to after dinner. We celebrated my wife's 60th birthday here last Saturday and she loved everything. Everyone was impressed with and enjoyed the omelets, shrimp and grits, waffles, and more. We all enjoyed the atmosphere and responsive staff during the day. Getting responses back initially from Candice was a little slow and hectic but once there on the day of--nothing short of perfection. I was very excited to host my family in Savannah this year for Thanksgiving and we were looking forward to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner at Cha Bella. Where to begin!? We had reservations at 5 PM and couldn't be seated until 5:40 PM, after we showed up at 4:30. They attempted family style dining. The table was terribly too small, the food came in waves. After we asked for dinner rolls twice, he then said they ran out and no substitute was offered (after the server told us they were coming right out). Even though we were the last seating time, that does not excuse them for running out of food on thanksgiving when we made reservations weeks in advance. The portions were enough for one person, not three. No serving spoons were served with our food. Had to pour cranberry sauce and gravy out of a bowl. They brought out a turkey wing that we had to debone at the table!! No one wants to go out to thanksgiving dinner just to debone their own food! After we finished what little meat there was, they brought out ham, after we had to ask for it. Very tasty but only 3 small slices. A party of three was being served the same portion sizes as a party of two. Desserts were terrible. There were supposed to be 5 desserts tastings but only received 4, agin no serving spoons or side plates offered. Server was friendly but they were understaffed. As a local, I will not be back nor ever recommend Cha Bella. read more

3.5 stars for an enjoyable night out. The interior of Cha Bella makes for a great atmosphere for a multi-course dinner with friends. My party of 5 was seated promptly and in a nice location, not stuffed into the back of the restaurant as so often happens with larger parties. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu, made suggestions, and cracked jokes. He was pleasant and attentive, not at all obtrusive. The service and atmosphere was the highlight of the evening. We all enjoyed the food, but something was missing.. some sort of wow factor. I don't want to sound stingy, but for the price we all expected to be amazed. I wish there had been a few more options in the appetizer/small plate section. I did very much enjoy my dessert though-- a goat cheese infused cheese cake with fresh strawberries and a pecan crust. It was of course a very muggy August night, so we sat inside, but I could see the beautiful patio being a great backdrop for trying Cha Bella again. read more

Disappointing because there were many tables open as well as every time slot available for a reservation. Also, the entire bar was empty and we were turned away because they were "fully booked". Being as all the reservations were completely open, it was obviously not booked to COVID social distancing. I guess we didn't look the part. The concierge at the hotel we stayed recommended us here. We came in at around 8:30 pm for a late dinner. The place was quiet and there was no one at the entrance to attend to us due to private event at the patio. We walked in on our own and alerted the server. He immediately apologized to us as all their staffs were busy serving at the patio. We get to choose anywhere we would like to sit as the indoors of the restaurant was empty. The restaurant decorations give you a "haunted" yet romantic and vintage kind of concept. You will notice that the chandeliers are slightly slanted, there is a huge mirror, giving the "historic" sense of feel, totally Savannah style. After getting seated, the waiter took down our orders and served us with their house made cheese with bread. The house made cheese tastes so good, it is a MUST TRY. I chose french onion soup for starter, my soup was ok, my husband chose pan seared scallops wrapped with bacon, the scallops were perfectly cooked. For entrees, my husband ordered a filet of beef steak, the portion is quite big for us, but he commented that it is cooked well as what he asked for, as for me, I ordered bacon wrapped scallops with risotto, I am not a fan of risotto, so basically, I just ate up all the scallops, about 3 pieces. The scallops are MUST-TRY dish. For desserts, my husband ordered a Moist chocolate cake, the chocolate cake is made of dark chocolate and chocolate mousse with strawberries and cream on the side. Slightly overbaked, the cake texture was dry and rough, it can be improved. As for me, I ordered a creme brulee, the fragrant of vanilla and the dessert was perfectly made. Overall we both spent around 120 usd for a 3 course meal for two persons. I have to say that their service is excellent, even though they were busy and booked for the private event, and we were not attended to at first, but they made it all up throughout our dinner. The servers were attentive and friendly. I recommend their scallops dishes and creme brulee, they taste so good. read more

9 of us decided to ignore previous reviews and try the New Year's Eve Prix Fixe. It was a disaster. The service was atrocious, the food orders were screwed up, drinks were watery, and management was slow to respond to feedback. It took 3 1/2 hours before the main course arrived...our meals ended up being comped, but it was not worth the hassle we had to go through. read more

The food is good, some great plates, but I ordered a carpaccio and it was not. The plate had maybe 5 very small pieces of carpaccio slices that looked like leftovers placed around the plate, with 5 shavings of Parmesan cheese, one per slice. There was no bread slices served with it at all. We were a big group of 20+, I only had an appetizer and water. Asked from the beginning to please give me a separate check. The waitress asked everyone at the end to listen to her and repeated " anyone who doesn't want to participate in equally splitting the check please come tell us now, because if you only want to pay for you and not equally split you need to come with me" Way to go! I had the chance to dine at Cha Bella's recently and I enjoyed my experience very much. I was with a group, 18 of us, and our service was prompt and excellent. I had the Grilled, Organic Local Harvest Eggplant & Oven-Warmed Plum Tomatoes with Farm Fresh Sweet Basil. This was delightful. I loved the flavors of the eggplant and plum tomatoes. They were roasted perfectly. My only request was that my Goat Cheese Nugget was a bit over cooked. It had a good crisp texture but it was a bit too dry. I ahs the filet for my entree and per the menu it is served with a mushroom demi-glace. I am allergic to mushrooms and the server informed me it would be no trouble to change it to a pan reduction sauce. I am happy to say they did a fine job and there was no mushroom or hint of mushroom otherwise this review might have been done from an ER room. Our group was seated in the balcony of the restaurant. My only complaint was that it was a bit too dim. Mood lighting goes only so far. Just turn it up a tiny notch and it would have been perfect. Over all I enjoyed my dinner very much and in fact have recommended others to dine there as well. When in Savannah after all the southern food you can handle Cha Bella's is a refreshing, organic lighter fare. Big yums from me! I'll go back for sure. read more

You have got to be kidding me! Not one human in the entire place could figure out how to turn off the wind vortex (fan), which caused a pleasant spring evening to feel like Antarctica! The general manager was supposedly called, but to no avail. We expected silverware and napkins but had to ask for them after our food arrived. Nice staff and location, horrible food. Took my Norwegian family here during our stay in Savannah. Called ahead to make a reservation. The person I talked to was very pleasant. When we arrived we were seated outside according to our wishes. The restaurant was very cosy and they played nice music. The bottle of Argentinian malbec that we ordered was very good. So far so good. This is when we started to get disappointed. We had to wait 1 hour for the food. We had 4 different entrées, all of them quite pricey and none of them worth even half the price. None of our dishes looked especially tempting, I'd say most people make a better job on their dinner plates at home. The catch of the day was a pan seared snapper. The snapper itself was decent but the cabbage it came with tasted like it had been boiled for too long and seasoned with charcoal lighter fluid. The fettuccine pasta had an overwhelming smoked flavor and was barely touched. The vegetarian farm vegetables and risotto was basically rice and veggies with no flavor whatsoever. The short ribs were just average, and should have been way more tender. In total, the food was flavorless, poorly presented and just sad. And extremely overpriced. This is a shame because the restaurant is gorgeous and very cosy. read more
