We went on a Saturday night in January and waited about 30 minutes for a table. Once we were seated, we ordered quickly and the food was on the table within 15 minutes. The food was hot and fresh. I mean the French fries burned my tongue! (But in a good way). Neither my companion nor I loved the coleslaw as we are very picky about our coleslaw. But everything else was delicious. Our server was great too but I can't recall her name. They got the tables cleaned quickly for the next guests to come in. We heard great things about Crystal Beer Parlor and knew we had to stop in during our weekend trip to Savannah. It was quite busy when we got there so we put our name in and grabbed a drink at the bar. They have a little gift shop and outdoor seating area where you can sit while you wait so it made the time go quickly. Our table was ready before the time they quoted us and our server greeted us promptly. Service was quick and our food came out fast for how many tables were filled. We got the pretzel thats as big as a steering wheel (the menu says that) and the crab puppies (I think that was the name) for apps. Both were delicious. We got an assortment of entrees at the table, burger, some seafood, etc. Everything was hot, tasted fresh and we enjoyed it all. One of our favorite stops while visiting Savannah! So much so that we ate here twice!!! It's a lively, unpretentious place... we felt very comfortable. We opted to sit at the bar, which I highly recommend... the bartenders are awesome and great conversationalists... Shawn was GREAT!!! First stop I had the sweet, tangy, and somewhat spicy duck wings. Yum, where have these been my whole life? LOL! My wife had a cup of she crab stew, which was creamy, thick, and buttery (more like a chowder). Crab was pretty forward in the taste profile... it's very rich though, a cup is probably plenty. Then I had shrimp and grits for my meal, tender sweet shrimp cooked perfectly in a bed of creamy, cheesy grits flavored with bell pepper and a bit of spice. Delicious. My wife had the flounder Ruben, and it was spectacular. She also had them make her a lemon drop martini that was so good she got one to go! Second night my wife ordered the shrimp and grits and I ordered the two seafood platter with blackened shrimp, deviled crab, Savanna Red Rice, and collard greens. The shrimp were amazing, sweet and cooked perfectly. I didn't care for the deviled crab... lots of filling, not much crab and just a strange flavor profile with mushy texture, the red rice was a decent side, and the collard greens were smoky and done well. Should have went with a different option than the deviled crab, but otherwise a solid meal. We finished by splitting a peach cobbler, and this might have been one of the best things we ate all trip... highly recommend! read more

Was told it would be around 30 minutes, at 8:30 I asked my partner to check on our place and he was told she scratched our name off the list...why? Our buzzer hadn't been buzzed, name hadn't been called etc. When we were finally seated service was smooth. I got the sweet shrimp with fries and coleslaw. My partner got the burger although it came basically naked the waitress quickly took it back for the correct toppings. Both meals tasted great and I was happy the late dining time didn't affect the quality. Took the peach cobbler to go and it was super warm and yummy. First time here and came as a walk-in party of 2. There was a bit of the wait so we found spots at the bar and had a few drinks and the fried pickles app to start. They were delicious and came out piping hot! Once we got seated I ordered the salmon BLT with a side of mash and my husband got the pastrami sand which with fries. (Do be mindful of little shells, but it's worth picking out of your mouth for the amount of lumpy crabmeat, spices, and such.) The fried shrimp were the best we had in Savannah! The wait was for over an hour so we found a seat at the bar to have drinks and dinner. The moment we arrived at the bar to sit down and order our drinks, we were met with a welcoming of contempt and unwelcoming hospitality. The energy felt more like one of only accepting locals or only accepting non-minority customers. The bartender looked visibly unpleasant and not very polite. He wasn't outright rude but it felt unfriendly and uncomfortable. That energy carried on for the entire time. The plate I ordered was underwhelming. The crab meat was flavorful but that was the extent of that. The fried fish needed more seasoning. My daughter ordered the soup and salad. I will say the crab soup was super delicious. We heard this was a popular place to eat in Savannah, so we knew we had to try it during our time here. We tried to come around 7:00pm on a Friday night, but the wait was an hour long. They do not take reservations. So we tried our luck again during the lunch hour the following Sunday. No problem getting a table then. Our server was friendly and very informative when we had questions about the menu. The Shrimp and Grits were excellent and full of flavor. Fried Green Tomatoes and the Creamy Crab Stew were tasty. I'm not well-versed in true Southern cuisine so this was my first time really trying all of the above. It did not disappoint! After a long day hoofing around town in the heat, I wanted a cold beer. I was able to sit immediately at the bar. The drinks menu is longer than some places' food menu and on the front page of beers on tap, those made in Georgia and in Savannah are helpfully marked. I ordered a nice local lager and the shrimp salad sandwich. I appreciated the long list of choices for sides, more than just fries and sweet potato fries. There was Cole slaw and greens and I had the cornbread. Service was fast and accurate. At least two of the bartenders checked on me from time to time. I would have had a second beer if I hadn't been so tired already with a long walk back to the car still ahead of me. The dining room was not terribly noisy, and it was more than half full in the middle of the afternoon. I wish there was something besides golf on the tv, but I guess I didn't watch it anyway. Walked in for lunch during a busy weekend in Savannah. Bonaventure Don recommended this restaurant at the end of our cemetery tour and provided a coupon for a free appetizer/dessert. They also had a wide selection of beers, including items from local breweries. We tried a local sour and immediately visited the brewery (Two Tides Brewing Co.) after our lunch. My table of three shared a salad, shrimp and grits, crab soup, and complimentary peach cobbler. The crab soup was incredible-- we absolutely considered ordering another one. It has been in continuous operation since 1933 and has been patronized by many hollywood A listers as well as the three stooges. Yes, that's moe/larry/curley with photo proof hanging throughout. When I called to place my to-go order, he was pleasant and had a DJ-style voice that sounds like he should be on the radio! His suggested pickup time was spot on, and my order was perfect. I ordered the hamburger steak and substituted cornbread for the coleslaw. The patty was cooked to perfection, and I appreciated that the mashed potatoes and gravy were packed in separate containers. We started the evening with a Tybee sunset, Grand margarita, and amazing crab puppies--by far the best hush puppy I've ever had, probably because there was so much crab, it reminded me of crab cakes. You gotta try this historic beer parlor around since the 1930s! They had a ton of beers to choose from both on tap and in cans/bottles. The walls are adorned with all kinds of antique pictures and decorations. It was fun to look around at everything while we waited for our food. The bar is long with wooden barstools that really just scream nostalgia. The food menu is big and I would describe it as upscale diner type food. We shared crab puppies that were absolutely delicious! They were packed with crab meat and felt like eating a crabcake. We shared a fried flounder Rueben which is honestly more of my husband's thing, not mine. It was good if you like that sort of thing. He thought the sandwich was incredible. I don't often get down to Savannah but when I do, I ALWAYS stop in at Crystal Beer Parlor for their shrimp and grits. Every. Single. Time. I mean it - those shrimp and grits are the best I've had anywhere, My husband and a friend have gotten the burgers and said they were excellent. The service is always great and the wait staff are very attentive. This does have a bar but it's always a pleasant experience. Not too loud. You can even sit at the bar to eat. Huge portions and Great service, one of the best casual dining experiences in Savannah. We arrived around 6:30/7 on a Friday, and grabbed the last two seats at the bar- if not for that we'd be waiting at least 40 minutes. (No reservations) We started with the giant pretzel and we stuffed without finishing. The Gouda beer cheese, are you kidding me? So good. We ordered the big bleu burger with a side of the ocilla slaw - YUM. And got the soup and salad combo with Caesar and she crab soup, which came with a slice of cornbread.
