I started with bourbon sampler that comes with fried pork belly, sugared bacon and bacon egg rolls. The bacon is just purely sinful. The pork belly with the bbq sauce. Insane. The egg rolls were weird but good. The bourbon was awesome. Bourbon. Rye. Sour mash go with the rich bacon like a fat kid and cake. Jackson talked me into getting the pork chop. At the time I'm thinking, a pork chop??? I was hesitant but went with his suggestion. Omg so glad I did. I don't know what the chef did but it was the most moist perfectly cooked chop I've ever had. Another stormy evening and long day so we opted to walk around the corner, close by to our hotel and have dinner at Cha Bella .. wasn't busy when we walked in and got seated right away but later on more and more people came in and soon it was almost full.. the staff did a great job with being short that day and dealing with some grumpy , inpatient people .. Constantly walking up and down those stairs , refilling water, taking orders and even making small chat.. I had shrimp and crab grits and the tarragon sauce on top of it was a perfect touch!! I absolutely loved the farm to table concept here! Everything is made fresh and in house! That includes the food and the drinks. It doesn't get any more fresh than that. I visited with a pretty large group and they tell you that everything is cooked to order and some dishes take longer than others. I appreciate that! I'm more than happy to wait for fresh hot food. We had a truly awful experience with a waiter here. He was rude to my family as soon as he brought us water, I'm still not sure why. We weren't even sure he was our waiter because he never took our order, finally I asked another waiter and she said he was indeed our waiter, I asked if we can order and he said "it's gonna be a while" while taking other tables orders as usual. The other waiter had to take over our table so we could get served and our child food. Here is where it gets really bad. As we are leaving the restaurant the same waiter from before is in front of us and closes the door intentionally on my five year old. Now I'm furious; I shout at him across the bar and he continues to walk away, smuggly, well aware what he did. Any normal person hearing they closed a door in a child's face would be horrified. James took most excellent care of our group of nine, never missing a beat. He knew the menu inside and out and offered excellent recommendations and had a sense of humor. The bartender deserves kudos as well. A Shirley Temple is usually a ginger ale with grenadine at the bottom but here the bartender actually take care to mix the drink. Yes, the little kid in me loves the flavor of grenadine! I highly recommend the mussels. You could make a meal of this dish, with a generous portion of mussels and plenty of bread to mop up the delicious broth. The kale and chorizo were most delicious! The shrimp risotto was oh so heavenly with super fresh green beans and shrimp. So many restaurants drop the ball when it comes to risotto but mine was perfect, not underdone and crunchy nor was it overdone mushy glop. I loved the key lime pie.....perfectly sweet with that bit of creaminess a good key lime pie should have. I was a little disappointed in the crush. My hubby picked this restaurant and he did a very good job I must say! We sat outside and even though they had fans on the ceiling and the ground it was still pretty hot! They have 4 swings which are so much fun!!! Anyway they have complimentary focaccia which was yummy. I was tempted to get the vichyssoise but the server recommended the potato gnocchi instead ( be warned, the menu is different from what is on their site ). The gnocchi was EXCELLENT, the mushrooms in it were so GOOD! I had wanted to have the pasta which was roasted red pepper cream pasta BUT like I said the menu online is different so they didn't have it. They had ricotta raviolo instead which I didn't want! So I got the shrimp and crab risotto. I've had shrimp risotto that is too rich to have more than a few bites of but this one was PERFECT! It was a huge portion with generous shrimp. The tomatoes and green beans made it much fresher and the shaved parmesan takes the dish over the top! Hubby got the market catch which was pan roasted grouper with succotash. This was a huge helping too! Cooked perfectly. And the best thing was that NONE of the dishes needed extra seasoning! I got a virgin mojito which was good but not sweet enough for me so the barman remade it perfectly. I REALLY wanted to love this place. I love the concept of locally sourcing foods and farm to table. Unfortunately the service was awful. I ordered a hot tea (sitting on the patio and it was kinda chilly) and I ended up bringing it back to my table myself from the bar after I used the restroom inside. Our dinner entrees were incredibly salty and just warm, not hot. Would recommend for some apps and drinks but not dinner. read more

We hosted the rehearsal dinner for our son's wedding in March at Cha Bella and had a wonderful experience. We had the entire courtyard area for cocktails and dinner with passed hordoeurves. The courtyard was lit with flameless candles and hanging chandeliers creating a welcoming and festive atmosphere for the wedding party and out of town guests. Dinner was a southern style buffet with fried chicken and a low country boil. A few of our guests were vegetarians and the staff spoke to each of them during the cocktail hour and whipped up something they all enjoyed very much. The food was delicious and the dessert table was beautifully presented with something for everyone. The staff was wonderful and went out of their way to make everything perfect so I had nothing to stress about and really enjoyed myself. Around the table, we had the hog (pork) chop, prosciutto chicken, catch of the day, risotto, scallops, and - my favorite - the 24 oz ribeye. We ordered a few apps so decided to split appetizers - they split and plated the entrees with what appeared to be an extra helping for an extra $5 per entree which I thought was actually very generous. This was my favorite stop during our food tour. Not only was the food sample delicious, the owner/chef Michael Lacy came out to talk to us and it was such a nice touch. We've been on other food tours where the chef, owner or manager spoke with us and it's really nice to hear their backgrounds and inspiration for opening their restaurants. I wish more of the other locations we went to on the tour did this. In addition, he had information about the restaurant printed out for us along with the menu to view. Even though Michael seemed busy, he also seemed genuinely happy for our group to visit - I appreciated his time immensely. We sampled the Country Fried Portobello Mushroom, which I along with everyone else in the group really enjoyed. Since I'm pescatarian (basically a vegetarian who eats seafood), I've eaten portobello mushrooms prepared a lot of ways, but this was very unique. You should try it! We ate outside on the patio since it was such a beautiful day and he also let us tour the inside. He likes to buy unique pieces and upcycle them for decor so the interior is varied with lots of old chandeliers, fixtures, finishes and furniture that make it a warm environment. We all loved seeing everything. This is a farm to table restaurant, menu changes seasonally, and they focus on locally sourced ingredients. Even though they have popular pork items on the menu, they offer some great vegetarian options. I am certain if I lived in Savannah locally, I would be a regular here! read more

This is our first time here and I have to give hats off to this place for being open as the pandemic continues and winds down. First off staff is fantastic considering the challenges of returning to work. Extremely attentive and frankly, exceptional. We had Rachelle as our server. Let me start with the cocktails. One of us had a Hendricks martini and the other the Basil Smash. both were fantastic. Basil Smash is extremely refreshing after you've walked for 15 minutes in 84 degrees to get to the restaurant. So one of my favorite things about this place is there is plenty of gluten-free on the menu. In fact, most of the items on the menu were gluten free and the exceptions were the ones that weren't. We had the beef carpaccio appetizer and this was fantastic with the fried capers and an egg yolk that was fried in some type of gluten-free coating. For dinner, one of us had the pork chop and the other had the crispy duck. Let me just say, that the polenta and collard greens that came with the pork chops were at least 5.5 stars. Both dishes were amazing in flavor and presentation. The only reason this is a four-star review is that both portions of meat were slightly overcooked. Not offensively, in fact, we finished both dishes completely but definitely overcooked. This is a small thing that the kitchen staff can easily remedy by having a clear definition of the temperatures when ordering with the server. Some restaurants, have it clearly labeled on the menu what your expectations are with the temperature. This would be helpful. I also need to add that I told Rachel to pick a wine based on what I was ordering, and she did a very good job. Very happy with a great Shiraz. Yes, we will be back. read more
