Delicious food at a reasonable cost in a primetime location near Santa Monica beach! Watched the sunset and walked over for dinner - the Ropa Vieja was tender, spicy, and delicious! The Cha Cha chicken was flavorful and juicy to the bone. Rice and beans were decent and plaintains were decent. The coconut chicken is nothing special but the jerk sauce helps add flavor. It's BYOB with Caribbean music and vibes. Highly recommend Mango guava and cucumber mint juices!

My daughter and I stopped in to Cha Cha Chicken after living in Los Angeles our entire lives and driving past it every day. I decided it was about time and I'm glad I did! I was very impressed by the colorful wall designs and the incredible service. I love that the owner, Elvira, stops by to ask how everything is. I could tell how much she cares about customer service which seems to be a bit of a lost art today. We ordered up at the counter and sat on the back patio. My daughter had the Cha Cha Chicken-oven roasted chicken with mildly spiced Jerk sauce with rice. The chicken was tender and flavorful and she really enjoyed it. I had the Mulato Cubano Sandwich with shredded chicken breast, cheese, lettuce, pickles, and mustard on a pressed Cuban baguette. The chicken was pull-apart tender. I also had a yummy grape soda. I'm so glad that we decided to stop in today. We will definitely be back to celebrate Cha Cha Chicken's 30th year in Santa Monica!

4 stars for the ambiance, location to beach & great vibes! Absolutely love the location near the beach. Service was very quick. Order at the window & the food comes out fairly quick. There is only one bathroom, but the line moves quick and there is a changing table - huge win!!! Ordered the cheese quesadilla for my toddler. Pretty tasty. It usually comes with jerk chicken. I think I enjoyed the quesadilla more than my toddler. The jerk chicken enchiladas were pretty good. My husband inhaled his spicy enchiladas. They were SPICY! I could've used a pinch of salt or seasoning in my jerk chicken enchiladas. The plantains were great! We tried our friend's cha cha chicken. Pretty good & seasoned well!!! Would definitely go back and order the cha cha chicken. We also ordered the banana smoothie with chocolate. Excellent choice!!! Highly recommend!!

Such a tasty spot, and a great place to go with a group! You order at a window and each person takes a number to the table. Food comes out very quickly. I ordered the jerk chicken combo which came with an enchilada, tostada, and plantains. The tortillas were fine, but the chicken was so flavorful! The plantains were the perfect balance on the side. I felt the food wasn't quite balanced, because certain aspects were fairly plain and the chicken was very spiced. Over all, it was an enjoyable meal and I felt very satisfied after. The prices include a cash discount, so be prepared to pay a little more with a card. After tax and tip, my plate was $22. Parking was fairly easy since there are tons of meters down the block.

Very cool shack vibes, felt like I was really transported to somewhere else. Portions are big. Tried 1/2 a chicken each of the cha cha chicken and coconut fried chicken. While good, I didn't think it was addicting enough to try again but it's a nice change of cuisine than most places in the Santa Monica area. The aquas frescas were truly refreshing I could taste 100% real fruit with no artificial flavoring. What stood out the most was the excellent service. Taking orders past their closing periods, despite customers giving them a hard time. They also didn't kick out people who were overstaying past closing either

Drove by this place and was 100% taken in by the name and decor. Ordered the coconut fried chicken and it was fried to crispy, angelic perfection. It came with 2 sauces for dipping and I found myself cleaning those little cups not wanting to leave a single delicious drop behind. Rice and beans were light and fluffy with the rice cooked perfectly. Plantains were expertly fried and well caramelized. My friend got the black pepper shrimp and cleaned their plate as well. The worst part of the experience was having to decide what delicious thing I wanted to eat and not being able to try everything all at once. Absolutely going back so I can try the enchiladas.

    Jerk Chicken Tostadas

Reminds me of my Papa and the food I grew up on. It taste good chicken is s a little dry but with the rice and beans its good. Wish the tostada was crunchy. The lemonade is delish.

Amazing food, lovely decor and seating area, reasonable prices for LA. Food came out within 5 minutes of ordering. We got the ropa vieja and the chicken enmoladas. UPDATE: Do not eat anything with Mole sauce if you are allergic to peanuts. We didn't know it had peanuts in it and had to ask two separate times to find out there are peanuts in the sauce (this information was only obtained by speaking in Spanish to the chef. the lady at the counter originally told us there were no peanuts in it the first time we asked, which is untrue)

My friend and I stopped by for a quick last minute meal right before they closed at 8:30pm. Pretty solid and flavorful food and the outdoor patio was exactly what we wanted. Low-key & pretty.

As of july 2, 2021 is cha cha chicken still byob? Do we need to bring our own wine opener and wine glasses?

Was just there today, September 13th. Still BYOB - not sure about the cups (they def do not have wine "glasses" - they usually have cups by the water jug at the back and the servers usually have an opener (or churchkeys for beers at least).

Yes outside. Of course!!! Open air seating it's the best

Fair warning: with tax and a 3.5% card fee, the total hit $38.34. It felt astronomically high, but I decided to bite the bullet and see if the food lived up to the price. The jerk chicken was a total knockout. I asked the chef for his recommendation on white vs. dark meat, he jokingly told me he makes both taste good -- he wasn't lying. It was fall off the bone tender with a nice spice profile that is a absolute must order. The oxtail wasn't very tender, though I had to work a bit with my plastic fork to scrape the meat off. It was good, but considering the price point. I'd probably skip it next time in favor of more chicken. The rice and beans were perfectly fluff, and the plantains were plump and delicious (though you only get two!) The atmosphere is as authentic as it gets. Between the Jamaican Patois spoken by the staff and the Bob Marley and Usain Bolt decor, you really feel transported. If you're looking for legit flavors, this is the place -- just be mindful of the combo pricing! Di Jerk Chicken Tun Up!

Ill rank our food from favorite to least favorite. (1) SURF CLAM CEVICHE #1- the acidity and creaminess and sweetness with very fresh seafood was so high quality. Plantains had a perfect amount of salt and crunch. The thinly sliced red onion was also perfect. It was very flavorful and probably better than Holbox-- if you have been. 10/10 (2) TUNA CARPACCIO YUCA TOSTADA #2- this was the best bite overall, it is definitely small and you finish fast but the flavors were just outstanding. The tuna itself was so fresh and it had a nice acidic flavor with the perfectly crunchy tostada!! 10/10 (3) KANPACHI CEVICHE #3 - a coconut predominant flavor with a mild acidity to it. It also pairs with plantains and they were fresh and perfectly crunchy. Was weary about the corn at first but honestly couldn't taste it and it was so good! (4) AFRO-CARIBBEAN SHRIMP DUMPLINGS #4- my bf loves shrimp and said this was very tasty. I'm not the biggest fan of shrimp but thought it was very creamy, fresh, had the classic shrimpy sweetness and a coconut creamy sauce to pair with it that when used on the rice tastes like a sweet milk rice. These were cooked perfectly. (5) fried chicken #5 - solid fried chicken and good crunch to it with the chicken being very well cooked but I cant say I was blown away by it, it has good flavor when dipped in the sauce which has a nice smokiness and acidity to it that makes it really tasty. However if I came again, I probably wouldn't order again. Lastly we ordered the toffee dessert which was classic and yummy. Nice shareable size. Overall, would return 100% and bring friends from out of town. Terrific flavors and service and definitely a top LA restaurant.

This used to be my favorite spot for arepas, but after today's experience, I won't be coming back…read more I called ahead and clearly explained my order: three arepa orders, with one having the masa scooped out. I also specifically asked about the price and was told it would be $13 per order, consistent with what's listed online. However, when I arrived, I was told the orders would be charged separately, and the employee became visibly frustrated when I asked for clarification and requested that everything be grouped as discussed. What made the situation worse was the pricing. I was charged $15 per order, which didn't match what I was told over the phone, nor what's listed online or even on Yelp (where it shows around $10). When I politely questioned the discrepancy, the employee became argumentative and made the interaction uncomfortable. I paid, because that's not the issue--but being treated dismissively and feeling misled is. Pricing should be consistent and clearly communicated, and customers shouldn't feel like they're being taken advantage of for asking reasonable questions. Still, I won't likely be back because having just one server took a lot away from the experience. We didn't know what to expect as it was our first time trying Jamaican food. But boy let me tell you- we were blown away! We ordered 4 entrees to share- Jerk chicken, oxtails, Brown stew and the fried chicken. The portions for Large size were indeed large and all came with rice and beans cooked together, and a fresh medley of sautéed vegetables. My first bite was the rice and I was already in love- so flavorful that I could've just eaten that alone and been happy. All of the dishes were packed with flavor, and the oxtail was melting off the bone tender and oh so yummy! I think this was my top favorite, but the Brown Stew chicken was also super tender and delicious. The Jerk chicken had a nice smoky flavor, and a tingle of heat on the tongue- reminiscent of a smoky bbq chicken but with more depth of layers. The fried chicken was also flavorful with its red spices and lightly coated exterior. It was not oily at all and reminded me almost of a crispy baked chicken. I almost forgot- we also tried the Cow foot soup at the end- it was rich from the collagen of the foot, like from pig's trotters, and packed with potatoes, carrots and a deeper orange veg- perhaps a squash of some kind? All of our dishes were spot-on delectable and we will definitely make the trek from OC to visit again. Fresh juices were also refreshing: watermelon, soursop, pineapple ginger (whooo with a real ginger kick to it!) The owners are from Panama and Jamaica and are super sweet, attentive and humble as well. When asked if they wanted to expand, the owner stated they wanted to keep it small and by word of mouth only. Even the blanched veggies were flavorful. The rice is perfectly cooked with the perfect coconut flavor. All of the meat was actually falling off the bone. Oxtail was incredibly tender. Jerk sauce is insane. Note that it's a small restaurant with 2 small high top tables and they make food to order, so your food may take a little longer to come out, but I promise it's worth it.
