Idea of how much food you get for take out!
    Mia K.

Finger-licking fantastic food. Rich comfort food. So glad my friend recommended this Jamaican place to me. The Oxtail Stew wowed my senses. Tender meat stewed for hours. The rice and beans mildly spicy and so flavorful by itself. The Jerk Chicken is also delicious. Like the oxtail, both are hearty without feeling heavy. If you get a combo with plantains, the dense one should be eaten same day, as it really dries up as leftovers. Pineapple upside down cake is amazing! So moist and perfectly sweet. Service can be inconsistent. The employee who handles the counter is friendlier for sit down service. I raved about the jerk gravy to him, and he gave me a complimentary side serving. I do also appreciate his patience though during my first time, answering my questions and as I fumbled my way through activating a Visa gift card to pay. They do have a very loud speaker outside which may or may not be pleasant, depending on your musical taste and ease with high volume. When I dined in, it was hot inside. Instead of letting us open the door, to keep the flies out, the front man turned on the AC. Seem to more take out business but I world definitely dine in again. Prices are reasonable and portions are very generous. Come try some unforgettable cuisine!

My wife and I have been wanting to try Jerk Stop for some time and so glad we did. We ordered take out. It does take some time to be ready. We tried the jerk chicken and curry goat combo with rice and peas, cabbage, plantains, and festival. We also ordered the oxtail combo, one jerk chicken patty, and one beef patty. The flavors brought us back to the awesome West Indian cuisine we had in Queens and the Bronx during our time out in the East Coast. Also brought us back to an awesome local lunch we had during a trip to the British Virgin Islands. They definitely make everything from scratch here. The proof are the visible fresh herbs in the jerk paste. The patties are not greasy and taste fresh, different from the store bought processed stuff. Will come back!

Possibly worth the trip --- please read for details: There's room for improvement here, and I think they can improve. It felt like they just weren't ready, but opened anyway. Most of the demerits are for the ambiance. They are not quite ready for prime time. The ambiance is "bright lighting, former Indian restaurant, now a Jamaican restaurant, but all we did was paint and hang pictures of Bob Marley." So, not very inviting, but seats were comfortable, so, you know, that's nice. Service -- the hostess/cashier/waitperson gave the impression they were pressed into service and in a pinch -- so, I salute her! But they need a more professional staff. Food... I know jack about Jamaican food, and not sure if this was authentic. So, take this with a grain of salt. Portions were healthy, so the regular size should be enough for most. Goat stew! I love goat and they delivered -- a solid stew with slight spiciness akin to a moderate Indian curry. The plantain and coco bread sides were good, as was the rice and beans and cabbage. The jerk chicken was a bit on the sweet side. I have no idea how it was supposed to taste, so please use your knowledge to fill in the gaps. So, I will give them another chance. The flatware was surprisingly substantial! The restaurant is located in a zombie shopping center: more empty spaces than businesses. Back to ambiance: the pictures on the order up menu should probably be re-considered; to wit, the photo of the beans look like they have a bug in them and the picture of the soup prominently featured a chicken foot (which I like a lot, but may be off-putting to some -- though it does serve as a warning, perhaps).

The Jerk stop is an awesome Jamaican restaurant right on Santa Monica blvd. They have tons of seating and play classics for you to listen to while you eat. There's not a huge line to order food but depending on what you get there can be a decent wait. The jerk salmon was awesome so juicy and soft and the jerk sauce was great with it. The Plantains were nice & soft as well. The red beans and rice was good too it complimented the salmon very well. The Mac and Cheese was nice creamy cheese but it was a tad bit saltier than I was expecting. The curry chicken patty was really good. A nice outer crust and the curry chicken on the inside was nice warm and soft. This was a great experience and I will definitely be back.

This place was amazing. After an especially tough move it was the highlight of my week. The salt dish and ackee was one of the most delicious things I've eaten. The homemade ginger sorrel drink was perfectly sweetened and had such depth of flavor. The rice and peas were comforting and the cabbage was flavorful. The portions are huge. Two people ate this and we still could've taken some home. They forgot my jerk chicken patty but it was so delicious and filling I didn't mind.

Small jerk chicken - that smoke!!
    Susie D.

I wanted to be mad, I really did. They said our take out order was ready, but we waited 40 minutes when we got there, and they apologized and were nice and added in some extra stuff, but I was still planning on knocking a star off. But then I got home and opened the jerk chicken and was blown away by how good it smelled. And then I took a bite and O.M.G. THAT SMOKE!! How in the world did they do that?! Seriously, that jerk chicken was insane. I mean, I've been to Jamaica, I've had my share of jerk chicken, and the smoke on this was unreal. I think you get the point, so I'll move on. The rice is rice, and the cabbage was better the next day, but the dumplings were everything you could want out of fried dough, and the plantains were perfect - perfectly sweet, perfect firmness, perfect flavor. My man's oxtail was a bit salty, but he enjoyed it. But holy moly the smoke on that chicken. Once word gets out, I'll probably be waiting for at least 40 minutes, and I'd do it all again. Gimme all the smoke!

Jerk chicken plate - great smoke in the chicken, lovely sweet salty spicy vinegrette-y sauce. Definitely get the gravy for the rice. Plantains were delicious. I gave an audible wow when I had their fried finger cornbread. The crunch and flavor! Delicious. Food came out piping hot. Spiciness creeps up on you and it's delicious. Rice was a bit dry. Not sure if that's common to Jamaican food though! Beef patty - delicious flaky pastry with savory beef/bean filling that has a subtle spicy kick. Space was clean and open, service was good! I'll be back to try the other patties. Also saw lots of folks ordering take out from here.

    Suki K.

Really good. We got chicken patties and two plates - curry and jerk chicken. Portion size was great and sides yummy too. Space is clean with plenty of seating. We'll definitely be back for more.

Small Jerk Chicken. Super dry. Chicken looks like leftovers. Okay sides though. Not a good deal for $18
    Daniel B.

I really wanted to like this place, but it simply wasn't up to par with many of the Jamaican restaurants I've patronized all throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The chicken was simply underseasoned and dry. Definitely not fresh. Tasted like it was made hours ago and reheated. The small jerk chicken came with two chicken legs and a smattering of the more desirable chicken breast. Definitely not a good bargain for $18 And while I recognize that some variants of jerk sauce are more sweet than spicy, I tend to gravitate toward the spicy end of the spectrum. Simply put, their sauce was not my style. The good news: the rice and plantains were decent. Not enough to save this experience though.

Too good. Ate it in the car
    Amber E.

So came back because we enjoyed so much the last time but this time the quality was just not it. Maybe Sunday afternoon is not the time to go but the food was stale and next morning smelled that it went sour that fast. The service was the same the overly friendly but not rude. The place is still neat and tidy with a selection of music. But the food this time... large Curry Goat and small oxtail (fatty parts) cost $60 and I can't even have it for lunch next day... sad hubby said he's not coming back... wish I could post the smell on here... yikes

The bossam was amazing! The best we've tasted. We all loved the perilla seed kalguksu due to its taste and also bc it's so healthy for you. The owner came by to check how we liked the galbi kalguksu since it was a newly created dish and we told her that it was delicious, seasoned just right. Before the meal, as they brought out the side dishes, they brought out barley rice with denjang on top to mix with yeol-moo kimchi. That was a special touch. We absolutely loved the food there.
