Finally a good Latin American/Mexican restaurant in I-Town! I've had my eye on this place since it opened less than 2 weeks ago but figured it needed some time for the crowd to "die down." Came here tonight but thank god I made a reservation since the wait time without was 1 hour! Definitely not dying down anytime soon :) Anyway, the inside is relatively smallish with a huge bar and outdoor patio. This place definitely is no chain and has plenty of flavor in its decor, music and ambiance (read: it's super loud and festive). For appetizers, we ordered the Cha Cha fries which came out piping hot. I loved the thick cut potato wedges and the seasoning was just perfect. Complimentary chips were A-OK but slightly on the salty side. For my main entree, I ordered the carnitas (fav type of meat!) with flour tortillas. The carnitas was good but slightly salty and the grilled onions were delish. Side order of rice and beans were very authentic tasting. I tasted a bit of the carne asada and that's by far the star - moist, delectable and tasty. Next time, I will definitely get the carne asada plate. I did want to give a shout out to our server, Ben, who did a phenomenal job despite the chaotic environment and place packed to the nines. He was extremely attentive and took the time to explain the menu. He also checked on us several times despite him attending multiple tables nearby. He also comp'd my drink since the original beer I got was flat. It's not often that I get such quality service during such a hectic dinner hour. I'm down for Cha Cha's Latin Kitchen especially when they have weekly specials. Prices are a bit high but the food tastes great! I'm in love with their vegetarian cheese enchiladas. I just finished a meal here with my family and it was spectacular! Five stars every time. The food and the service is always worth coming for (server review at the end). I ordered the Carne asada and a fish taco -- the steak was cooked exactly how I wanted, the fish was fresh and delicious. The salsa's offered was fresh and if you put it on everything it enhances the whole experience. My families meals were also just as delicious and made perfectly (chicken enchilada's and a variety of tacos). Cha Cha's simply never misses! It's always a pleasant experience and I love telling everyone about what excellent food and service there is here. I ended the night with the best flan I've ever had. It's always (again) DELICIOUS but tonight was something special. The sweet but not too sweet flan, the burst of strawberries, the citrus cookie (?) they include in the cream on the side, so yummy! Aside from our excellent food our server Sergio was the star of the show. He was attentive, listened and engaged with our table, answered any questions we had and his friendly demeanor really put us all at ease. When I come back I will definitely ask for him by name. I was expecting to enjoy our meal more here. The host was nowhere to be found and it took us a good 15 minutes to be seated even though they were fairly empty. It also took a while for a waiter to show up, refills on the drinks we had to flag down ourselves. Chips only also after request, and my request to substitute the beans and rice for my meal with a salad was denied. The tacos were tasty, on the small side, they are street tacos which make it a bit pricey. Considering we spent over $60 for two I feel it could have been better. I came here for a Sunday lunch and was fairly disappointed. Speed of service was extremely slow (~50 minutes for the main courses to arrive). The catch of the day was halibut and I had it pan seared. The presentation was decent and I expected it to be amazing. Sad to say, it tasted like there was a heavy drizzle of olive oil on the exterior with a bland taste in the actual filet. Choosing zucchini also may have not been the best choice to go with this dish either. My guest mentioned that the caldo was watered down, so I would not recommend that. The clams were fresh but everything else in the tomato broth...not so much. All in all, I would have to say that the best dish I had was the calamari. The tacos I had were no bueno. The shrimp wasn't cooked properly and the other taco..I think it was their signature short rib which was flavorless. If I don't remember exactly what it was then you know it wasn't memorable, at least not in a good way. Disappointed as it's difficult to mess up a taco. The service was lacking. Can't comment on the servers here, who seem to be very popular! We ordered takeout -- I had carne asada tacos and my boyfriend had the three enchiladas. To say he is choosy about Mexican food is a tremendous understatement, and he thought the enchiladas were very good, especially the cheese. I thought the tacos were delicious, savory and full of perfectly cooked steak. The food went perfectly with a Malbec. The online menus could be a little better and offer a few more choices. They send you a big container of chips (appreciated!) but only one small container of salsa. The combos come with rice and beans, and the opportunity to choose all rice or all beans would be great. But overall an excellent delivery experience and we'll definitely be ordering from here again. read more
