We always have a hard time finding good Thai food in Salt Lake City, I guess since we're spoiled with good Thai food on the east coast. We picked this place because they use the flat wide noodles for their Pad See Ew which we love. But I'll warn you, the spice level is INSANE!!! I got a 2/10 based on another Yelper's review, who I am SO glad I listed to, and it was barely edible. And I can handle some heat. But I was actually crying when trying to eat this. I would get it again, but request a spice level like 0.5/10 lol. But my boyfriend requested a 0 spice level on his Pad See Ew, and they didn't put any sauce on noodles! We weren't sure if that was a mistake or not, but his was barely edible and we had to embellish it with some soy sauce at home. I wish I got a picture of his dish. The noodles were plain white. I got takeout another time and ordered the Massaman Curry which was a hit! It was peanutty, creamy, and the tofu was excellent. I love that you can request their dishes to be prepared vegan, and they have a lot of choices. Overall I'd get takeout from here again but would be clear about our noodle dishes next time. Heard great things about this place, so maybe I caught them on a bad night. The orange chicken is all batter, and fried to the point of not being able to eat it. The pad Thai is watered down chicken and soggy noodles with no flavor, I can't even force myself to eat it. The massaman curry had a weird burnt after taste. Been here before at the old location. Food and service was good. A big zero for service. Would be a 1, but the food was pretty good. I called to see if they served beer and they said yes. When we got there, the new location, took 20 minutes to get water. It wasn't busy. 10 minutes later when we wanted to order beer they said they didn't have their license because they moved. No apologies. Asked if we could brown bag, they said absolutely not, Utah law? After another long wait, they took our order. Ordered pot stickers, supposed to be 6, but only received 5. Ordered curry, pad Thai, and pad se yu. Smallish portions. Not outstanding, but good. They offered more water, but it never came. Asked for soy sauce and it never came. Never checked with us to see how dinner was. We almost had to tackle the waiter to get water refilled. Another eternity to get take home boxes. Big disappointment! read more

This is a good Thai food place, for Utah! It's definitely one of the better ones, in the area! It took awhile to get our seats and to order, but food was decent. A little dry too. There were only two servers, for the whole dining area and they were running ragged. You can't fault them for working their butts off! We liked our appetizer (fresh spring rolls) and our entrees (massaman tofu curry and chicken pad see ew). They weren't great, just okay. We appreciated them constantly filling our waters, because the like 30 minute wait, to get our check was ridiculous (they weren't as busy then and one of the servers was even mopping already. Not a yummy smell!) AND, my friend wanted to order another item to go too! That was frustrating! I have been to this place many times over the years but this would be my last time. Service is horrible, waited 5 minutes to be acknowledged at the front, waited another 5 minutes and was offered one water and had to ask for my daughter to be offered a drink. Had to ask to order, asked for the check, asked for boxes. All these things should be offered in a timely manner. There was one other table. The white rice was drastically over cooked, we didn't even eat it. The spring rolls were visibly burnt and still served to us. The yellow curry had a distinctly gross flavor. We both had a couple of questions, which they Asian lady was really helpful in answering. She had huge pretty eyelashes. The number 2 is HOTT!!! And I love spicy food. I couldn't finish my food. Delicious! But they don't mess with the spice. Seriously, be cautious. I've decided that I like about 1.5. I got the 2 and while I could handle the spice, by the time I was done my lips were BURNING! I typically order medium or medium-hot at other Thai places to put that into perspective. My friend ordered the 3 last time and was fine. Then he ordered the 3.5 this time and about died. You've been warned. The cashew nut stir fry and drunken noodles were both delicious. The food here is packed with flavor so even through the spice you still get all kinds of happiness for your taste buds! I really wish they served brown rice, but the jasmine rice is good. This restaurant gave my husband and I one of our favorite stories of all time! We had gone out on a date night to try and get some authentic Thai food and stumbled across this restaurant. We ordered the Pad Thai and Green Curry & Rice... because what else to Americans order? The food smelled delicious and spicy so when we were asked what spice level we wanted (0-10) I chose a 5 thinking I was being conservative on my first visit. While waiting another couple walked into the restaurant and said they had toured India and loved spicy food. When they tried to order a 10 the owner came out and told them that first timers could only get a 3 Max... she was tired of people come in there passing out and having to pay their medical bills. When she learned that we were first timers she scolded the waitress, looked us both over and then caved saying "Fine they can all have 5." I grew up in Southern California eating hot peppers salsa bit nothing compared to this meal. I didn't know eyeballs could sweat... rice and ice were helpful! I'm pretty sure we were both crying... can't remember too much pain. The waitresses were all watching us eat and taking turns trying to help us survive the heat. We were laughing soo hard! The couple behind us said they loved the meal and they thought that if they had ordered a level 6 it would have been the hottest thing they ever ate. In the area shopping and decided to head over to give this spot a try since Jeff mentioned it was one of his faves after I reviewed Tea Rose. I have noticed it before when I take my dog to the groomer across the street but have never ventured in. The shopping plaza is a bit difficult to maneuver into from state street and appears run down or in process of remodeling but this restaurant stands alone in the center and looks fine. You have to enter from the east side of the building so you know ahead when you pull in to park. It's a bit dark inside but nice and open and spacious and allows for a relaxed atmosphere. It's much larger and more of an actual full restaurant than tea rose so I was curious to check out the food. Fiance was excited to see Pho on the menu so that's what he ordered (With beef). The menu was quite expansive so it took me a while to peruse it (and they also handed us a breakfast menu so good to know that's an option if we are ever in the area and in the mood to try a different breakfast). Nevertheless, in the end, I ended up ordering the Pad See Ew. I figured I should stick with what I know. I of course ordered it at a 0 and got it with tofu. The pho was presented so nice in a huge bowl with a side plate with the fixings and he couldn't wait to dive right in. It was very good..what you might expect if you went to a pho-specific restaurant. The difference being that there were less options for the type of beef that you would receive in the dish. Instead of the option of flank, meatballs or tendon, they only serve flank. But no complaints about the flavor of the dish itself. In fact the bowl was empty at the end!! He also had a Thai iced tea with his meal and really enjoyed that as well. The pad see ew was delightful. The noodles were perfect and the sauce brought all the flavors of the dish together. The broccoli could have been cooked more but that's a personal preference of mine because I can't chew raw broccoli with my braces. The tofu was perfect. When I took the first bite I was amazed. It had a crunch on the outside and then just broke down perfectly. Not chewy at all. I had to share with the fiance it was just too good not to share. I also love that they give you real chopsticks (not the wood disposable ones). Enjoyed the meal. It was pretty slow in the restaurant not too many others around and service was ok. This is by far one of the best Thai places that I have had in SLC. They are serious about the spicy scale. First timer can't order anything above a 3. I had to have someone who have been there previously to vouch for me to order a 4 spiciness. Yup it was spicy! A four is usually what I order as native spicy or the spiciest level at other Thai places. I had the Pad See Ew and the papaya salad. All had great flavors. I ordered the regular Fresh Spring Rolls & Pad Thai with tofu & a glass of water. Cost me $24.90 before tip!!!!! This has been my favorite Thai Food restaurant. But I refuse to ever go back. I understand having to raise prices due to the current economy but this is down right greed. I also noticed they just remodeled the interior... They just lost a repeat customer for about $12. We came in, and were immediately sat down, and greeted warmly, our drinks never went unfilled, and I'm starting to think their bad service record is behind them. Our meal started out with their curry puffs, and the golden fried vegetables. Both of our appetizers came out quickly and were both delicious and quite fresh. The curry puff was a little plain, and I wasn't a huge fan of the peanut sauce that came with it but they had a bottle of sweet and savory hot sauce as a condiment option, which went perfectly with both apetizers. The golden vegetables were the best tempura fried vegetables that I've ever had, though the sauce it came with it also wasn't that great. The savory and sweet bottle of hot sauce definitely worked perfectly as a substitute, and I would much prefer it over the sauces these dishes come with. Next we split a bowl of pho.. we weren't expecting anything spectacular, and were still a little underwhelmed. The pho was flavorless, light on meat, and I think they may have gone so far to have used a chicken stock base.. but it was edible.. and inexpensive. I'd definitely recommend the dumpling soup instead of their pho. Our main course was their Yellow curry, absolutely amazing, I had the #4 spicy curry, and my fiance had the #1 spicy curry. They do not mess around with their spice levels! You need to have your name written down in a book to be able to order anything past a #3, which I do mean to say is pretty darn spicy. We walked in and were barely acknowledged. 2 waitresses showed up and both said they'd be right with us but it felt like forever for us to be seated and the restaurant was not crowded at all. It took another long while before our order was taken and our waitress was not friendly. Food was just disappointing. We ordered the papaya salad, heat level 3, and it was EXTREMELY spicy as forewarned. I love spicy food but the abundance of chilis tasted like gasoline and flavors of the papaya salad were not balanced. We also ordered it Lao-style but it seemed Thai-style. The Pad Ki Mao was dry and flavorless. The Penang Curry also lacked flavor and just tasted like coconut milk. Our waitress suddenly seemed more friendly when we needed our check. I finally tried Chabaar Beyond Thai in Midvale, UT, last night. I had driven past it several times, and then I saw it listed on the Salt Lake Tribune and finally made my way there! We had an amazing experience. There is a plenty of parking outside of the restaurant, so there is no trouble looking for that. The inside has both booths and tables. The booth we sat in was spacious and comfy! We ordered a Thai beer and wine. Both were great! The service was great! The food was brought out quickly and the waitress was very kind. The Pad Thai was flavorful and delicious! The portion sizes are also HUGE - both my friend and I had leftovers for a full meal the next day. The cream cheese wontons were my favorite appetizer - the filling is so creamy and pairs well with their sweet and sour sauce. read more

I still had poor service at the actual restaurant, but they apologized, so I was willing to give them another try and I'm glad I did. One of my favorite Thai spots in Salt Lake City. I don't know if it is the same owner for Oh Mai and tea rose diner but sometimes you'll see advertisements with each other. Anyways, easy to get a table and the food is quick, the portions are large, and the staff is friendly as well as helpful. Way more gluten free and vegan options than some other spots I've gone to. The 1st hair I found I thought- oh, must be mine, but then I got a bite from the bottom and I pulled out 2 more. Though this restaurant is very close to my house, I haven't ever managed to make it here until yesterday when I was sort of driving aimlessly looking for somewhere to eat. I always seem to have a list of ten places I want to try, but then when it comes time to actually pick somewhere my mind is suddenly devoid of ideas. Does that ever happen to you? Happily, I have been meaning to try Chabaar, and as one of limited options open on a Sunday, I think it was the right choice. I had the grilled duck curry, which included slices of meat, carrots, tomatoes, green bell peppers, and some sort of greens, probably spinach, served with a bowl of rice, of course. I added a side of steamed vegetables which I tossed into the curry to beef it up (and which is also an easy way to get two meals out of your entrée). The curry gravy itself was wonderful. I requested medium heat, and while I would have expected a bit more for a Thai restaurant the level was just fine. It was very creamy, with a coconut forward flavor and lovely sweetness. The vegetables were well cooked: tender, but with good bite, and very fresh. I did not enjoy the duck, however, as the slices were about half skin/fat, which would be one thing as I think some people like that, but nearly every bite had some sort of gristly bit to it, too. Bleh. Still, it was otherwise a delicious curry, and in the future I would just order one with different meat. I also tried the Thai omelet, which features ground chicken, plus a very generous side of bean sprouts, shredded lettuce, cucumbers, and carrots, peanuts and fish sauce. This was wonderful and fresh, and I would definitely like to order it myself sometime. They have an extensive menu, in fact it was a bit overwhelming as we flipped through both the breakfast and regular one. They offer a full selection of American breakfasts, as well as Thai styled ones like the omelet above, and even a fair amount of vegan options. Their lunch and dinner choices are many and varied as well, though much more on the Thai side (there are some surprising dishes, though, like burgers or chicken and waffles!). There is a curry pot pie, which sounds amazing and so intriguing. They have tons of drink options including the usuals, plus an impressive selection of teas (30 or 40 or so), and even kombucha! Also, they use pebble ice, which doesn't get me excited in particular, but I'm noting as I know some people have pretty serious ice opinions. Now, service was pretty meh. It started out okay, but, as is so frustratingly often the case, once our food was received no one came back to check on us for a very long time. Thankfully we didn't need anything, but then we were finished and waited for boxes and the check for a good fifteen minutes. There were two servers and four tables, so it's not like they were super busy. The interior will be appealing to some, while significantly less so to others. You enter into a windowed and plant filled lobby, which I loved, but the restaurant does have that sort of dingy vibe, it's rather dated, and the bathrooms were pretty awful. In the end, food here was very good to excellent, but the service was a disappointment. Recently I have visited such a plethora of restaurants, only to find that nearly all are struggling customer service-wise. I don't think I'd mind so much here, considering the atmosphere and general feeling says "cheap," but my lunch was about $20, just for my entrée and the extra vegetables. For that much I'd hope you could pay enough attention to bring boxes and the bill in a timely manner. This won't prevent me from returning. I appreciate that they are open on Sundays, that we had the option of either breakfast or lunch, and I loved everything I ate. But it's more likely I will simply place an order to go in the future. read more

Sat down, waited 5 minutes for a glass of water and wasn't even asked if I was ready to order so ended up waiting another 10 minutes to order. Cream cheese wonton appetizer never came and another 30 minutes later finally the Panang Curry came. Asked about the wontons and they had completely forgotten about them. So another 10 minutes and finally they came, but we're barely warm on the outside, cold inside and for some reason green instead of golden brown! Wow!!! terrible service, but the Panang Curry was tasty, however needed more of the curry sauce for my rice to soak up! Most places give you plenty of extra curry sauce along with the vegetables and meat, not this place though!!! Then when I went to check out they had the nerve to still charge me for the wontons. I explained they came out after my curry, after sitting there for 40 minutes and were cold. She then asked what I wanted her to do. I explained I don't really want to pay for them. So she took them off the bill and then like a toddler throwing a temper tantrum took the 3 remaining wontons I had already boxed up and stormed off as if I did something wrong. WTF!!! Who does that? Then to top it all off when I paid the bill I noticed they charged me $19.48 when the curry was only supposed to be $15 plus tax. I'm definitely disputing this charge with my financial institute and not paying a dime to these crooks! Way over priced subpar Thai cuisine with awful service, even worse customer service and they charge you more than what's listed in the menu!!! Can anyone say false advertising? read more
