It was my first time coming to this clinic, it took me almost a month in advance to get a new patient appointment (after the initial visit it's not hard/long to get an appointment) I could tell in the first 5 minutes of the appointment that this was going to be my long term veterinary for my pets. The vet that I dealt with was a women ( I can't remember her name). She was very kind and patient throughout the whole process. She always told me what she was going to do next and talked me through the whole examine. I've never had a vet who was so thorough in their exams. She would explain to me each of my options and the pro's and con's to them. Overall such a great experience! If I could give 10 stars I would!!!! read more

Dr. Kim at Chabot is amazing! She saved my sweet Princess Starlight from GI-Stasis back in August after we had just adopted her. She's very thorough, when we found out Princess Starlight was not spayed, working with us to help Princess Starlight to gain weight to be strong enough for the spay since she's a small bunny and underweight. Then when we discovered Princess was bleeding spots last Friday, which is a sign of Uterine Cancer, she got us in right away to get her the spay. Amazing staff here! My daughter and I found a tiny kitten in our complex that needed help. We unfortunately couldn't keep it but wanted to make sure it was okay. I LOVE Dr. Harvey. She is amazing. She has been seeing a rescue bun for over a year now. He has bone malformations and she has worked with him to help him with all his teeth issues. I took my older cat, Taz, in about a month ago for an injured paw, and he was given an antibiotic shot, and he was soon back to his old self again. This Friday, my boyfriend had to rush Taz to the vet because Taz was very lethargic. Unfortunately, we had to put him down because he somehow drank some anti freeze, just a spoonful is fatal from what I hear. I can't tell you how heart breaking it was to see my baby that way, and we decided it would be best to let him rest. I've had Taz for many years, and he was my best friend when I was going through some very dark days many years ago. The staff at this office was so compassionate, and was very respectful of our pain. The vet let us know we didn't have to stop at the front desk to pay anything right now, we could call in later and take our time. They let us know we could have Taz cremated if we wanted to, and the people that do the cremation also have a pet cemetery. It's been difficult for us cause we really miss Taz, but Chabot Vet clinic has made things so much easier for us. They even sent us a card with Tazzy's paw print and a little bunch of his fur. read more

Went to the vet today Saturday the 15th of June, to have my dogs teeth looked at so we could set up a follow up appointment to get them cleaned... Very simple very easy 5 to 10 minute appointment. I got there and the staff seemed friendly enough. I got some paper work to fill out because this was my first visit there. I was a little early to my appointment about 8 minutes and I was told I would be called back into the room once they had one available. At 10:35am I'm told to come into the room where they proceeded to take my dogs temp and asked a question or two, the nurse leaves us in the room; Anyway we're sitting there and 45 minutes pass, then 50, then an hour; finally the nurse pops in and says that they are over booked and they had a slight emergency. I understand emergencies; but I just drove 20 minutes to get to this place and sat here for another hour and you're going to sit here and tell me that you only have one doctor on hand?! Where has customer service gone? It would have only taken 5 min to look at my dogs teeth and given me a quote so we can make our next appointment. I don't know how this place has 5 stars on yelp! Because to me this was a hot mess of a place that I will not be bringing my pet back to! The kicker here is no one really saw what was wrong with this situation. There was no manager on hand to talk to or anything. It was just a "can we reschedule your appointment?" No you may not there are 100 different vets out there. I was told to go here by someone and I will tell as many people about my experience, so that they do not make the same mistake I did! read more

My husband and I have followed the AMAZINGLY talented Dr. Harvey from our old clinic to Chabot. There is NO ONE we trust more to care for our special needs bunny than Dr. Harvey--she's a bunny know-it-all extraordinaire! The second best thing about Chabot is their big jar of dried blueberries labeled, "Bunny Treats!" I've never been to a vet where they actually offered BUNNY incentives. And it worked! He warmed RIGHT up! The wait is a bit long, but they take a long, careful time looking at your pet and then get you checked out quickly, which is great. read more

Never in my life have I been so offended by a business... Some years ago I was experiencing hardship, and often would have to cancel upcoming visits. When my pup had a hematoma, and was uncomfortable, I reached out to Chabot Vet. The lady on the phone was very rude once she pulled up my account. She reprimanded me for my cancellations, and told me the next available appointment was a month later. I had no other choice but to try a different vet where I was told the hematoma would shrink on its own. Unfortunately it shrank and shriveled. Now my pup has another hematoma growing on the other side. I took a chance and called Chabot Vet once again. I spoke with a different woman this time. Before she pulled up my account I explained it had been years since I had been there. She was still happy to pull up my account, and then expressed the next appointment wasn't until some extremely far out date. I asked her why she didn't share that before pulling up my account. She explained it was because I hadn't been there for years. I responded by telling her I shared that at the start, and that my last experience with them was similar. I've never once been rude to them and can only assume their reasoning is because of my past cancelled appointments. It has been years, and I'm financially stable now. There's really no good reason for this continued rejection. My experience with the veterinarians have been great, but I can't understand who would allow the people at the front desk to be so awful. How can they lack compassion and have our pets best interest. For this reason I chose to write a review. read more

I trust no other veterinarians with my dog but with Dr. Marmalejo, Dr. Harvey, and Dr. Neely. I did a bit of researching back in 2013 to find a the best possible clinic for my dog. As I did not trust the previous place after a few months. Within the first 30 minutes of the initial new patient exam, I knew they cared for my dog as if he was their own. Dr. Marmalejo got down to my dogs level and got my dog comfortable and relaxed before administering the wellness exam. My dog to this day gets excited when he sniffs the air when we exit the freeway. He wags his tail the entire time anticipating Dr. Marmalejos entrance into the exam rooms. Dr. Harvey is the other veterinarian that who I trust my dog with. She worked with me to keep costs low and told me which treatments my dog actually needed when he got two foxtails. She nor any veterinarians ever tried to upsell me or administered tests that were unecessary. This clinic from the friendly vet techs, front desk, and fantastic veterinarians is the only place I take my dogs. They make accommodations, they go above and beyond to make you and your furry child feel at ease. These people are have so much compassion for all types of pets that are brought in to this clinic. I love this place!! If you are looking for a Veterinary clinic for your beloved pet, give this place a chance to show you and your dog the best care. P.S. I want to sincerely thank Dr. Neely and the Chabot Veterinary Clinic Staff for the care and kindness they provided Pooh, our 18 year old Cocker Spaniel. Pooh was battling cancer and was put to sleep after his health deteriorated to the point where he could barely walk and was regularly in pain. We made the difficult decision after Dr Neely conducted a detailed examination, provided her diagnosis, explained our options, and patiently answered all of our questions. On the day Pooh was euthanized, they had a comfy blanket for him to sit and lie on as well as a large bowl of baby food for him to enjoy. They let us have as much time as we wanted to say our last good byes and were comforting and consoling to both my mom and myself. We chose to have Pooh privately cremated through them and their trusted partner who performed the cremation and returned the ashes in a beautiful wooden box. They are wonderful and compassionate people who genuinely love animals. Everyone at Chabot Veterinary Clinic was so good to Pooh and I would recommend them to anyone who needs veterinary help for their pet companions. read more

Dr. Harvey is a BUNNY GOD. She saved my 3 week old Monty's life 5 years ago, after my SO bought her for me from an illegal vendor at LA's Fashion District. I was naive back then, thinking I was getting a low maintenance miniature bunny that would eat carrots in a tiny cage all day and remain tiny forever. NOPE. So, so, so, soooo wrong. On the drive back from LA i sat in the back seat with my adorable palm sized bunny and read about how those street vendors sell babies way too young to be weaned from their mothers, only to die a few days or weeks later. I knew I had to get Monty seen asap. I was able to get an appointment for the next day. (Dr. Harvey is usually booked at least 3 weeks out, I was lucky someone cancelled.) Fast forward 5 years later and Monty is a happy, healthy, 5lb rabbit. We also have 3 other rabbits and they all love their annual visits with Dr. Harvey. She is very thorough and makes sure to compliment them heavily, like a true bunny lover. She also uses chinese herbal medicines vs invasive treatments whenever possible if there is a concern or issue. Bunnies are fragile, yet intelligent, loving pets (just kidding, bunnies dgaf, most owners know this) who deserve the freshest hay and veggies, tons of room to hop and roam, and Dr. Harvey. read more

This is the first vet I've ever been to and I really enjoyed it. The waiting room was quiet and peaceful. Staff and vet were very friendly and welcoming and obviously love the animals. My cat didn't seem at all stressed out the whole time, exploring the exam room and looking out the window while we waited for the vet. The vet was great about giving information regarding food and vaccines without being pushy one way or the other. I came in with a huge list of questions and she patiently answered all of them. They gave me a free sample of flea medication and told me to buy more online to save money. I've heard other vets make this difficult in order to turn a profit on the meds, but they were really honest! I ended up buying through 1800petmeds, which automatically sent them a prescription request. They filled it immediately. read more

As a first-time puppy owner, everything seemed so daunting to me. While I've had pets in the past, it was always when I was younger, or they were "family" pets, so I wanted to make sure to do everything I could and do it well for MY very first puppy. When searching around for vets in the area, I got a lot of recommendations from friends, but didn't feel great after looking up some of the yelp pages of vets they had recommended. I did my own searching, and felt most comfortable with trying out Chabot Vet Clinic, and am so glad that I did. I took in my pup for her first wellness check, and Dr. Neely was an absolute sweetheart. I was so impressed by her knowledge, and very appreciative of her kindness and patience. We have since been back for an itchiness issue, and to have her spayed as well (Dr. Harvey did the spay, was was equally awesome). I have yet to encounter a staff member who hasn't been understanding, compassionate or who could resist snuggling my pup. I will say that the spay cost a bit more than what I wanted to spend, but I feel that it was worth it given the quality of service and the peace of mind that it gave me (also looked at SPCA spay clinics, but couldn't get over some of the bad stories). While I hope not to be a frequent-flier (we want healthy pups!), I am also glad to have found a place that I can trust with my little girl. read more

Dr. Harvey is the bomb dot com for bunnies. She is so gentle and sweet with them and just by talking with her (I'm the overly worried momma with her furry crew), you can tell she is really knowledgeable. I feel quite lucky to have found her to take care of my lovely bunnies. When my first bunny, Pikachu, died. She was kind enough to call me and thank me for the great care and love I showed him and asked if she could do an autopsy on Pikachu before cremation so she can find out more info on his illness. She also did the neutering for my bunny Dexter and did such an excellent job. He had minimal swelling afterwards and the incisions looked so much better than previous neutering jobs I've seen done on bunnies taken elsewhere. Dr. Harvey is a hard worker, she will often return my calls after 6pm on days she's working because she really takes her time with the bunnies. As a rabbit owner, I can't stress enough how lucky we are to have the services of a renown rabbit saavy vet such as Dr Harvey so close to home. Rabbits are considered am exotic pet and only a handful of vets in the area are qualified enough to treat them. Dr Harvey not only is qualified but is an expert in the field. Vets from all over the country/world consult with her when they have rabbit medical issues that they can't resolve. I took my two little fur babies for a medical exam and I was amazed at how thorough she was with them. She checked everything from top to bottom. Asked me about their enviroment, diet, care all while writing everything down in their charts. She made sure to advise me on what tests were needed since one of my buns is a rescue and how much it would cost. She took the time to answer all my questions and concerns. Walked out of their feeling that this was $$ well spent. General exam was $65. Front staff is nice and the office has your usual separated cat/dog entrances. bazillion stars! read more

One of our dogs had developed an issue with bad breath - I'm talking outhouse in a swamp kind of bad - but her teeth are fine so I figured it must be digestive. We didn't have a regular vet (used VIP before) and decided it was time to secure something permanent so I called, made an appointment, and took Sally in the other day. The staff is very kind and helpful, and Dr. Marmalejo (he prefers being called George) was great. Sally has always been a very timid dog around strangers but she warmed up with him pretty quickly. He gave her a clean bill of health and agreed with my initial assessment about it being a digestive issue so he recommended we keep her on the same food for a while (we usually change it up a bit), and he gave me an enzyme powder to mix in with her food to help balance out her digestive system. Plus Sally was due for her vaccines so we had that done as well. All in all a super great experience that didn't vacuum out our wallet. We'll definitely be taking both of our dog there for regular care. read more

Our 2 bunnies been seeing Dr. Harvey and Dr. Neely for years. Both docs are basically reincarnations of Saint Melangell. Girl bunny had nerve damage on her face that led to frequent drooling that looked like teeth issue. Saw several vet before and no one knew why. Dr. Harvey examined her for 2min and knew exactly why. Previous vet could not find her lady parts, Dr. Harvey did a normal spay. Recently she had sudden onset head tilt and Dr. Neely squeezed us into her busy day and saw us urgently. Anytime there is a question or concern, one of docs always call and review everything in detail. The staff is amazing, everyone we have interacted with, especially Steven, Jessica, Suzzy and Georgia. The list goes on... We drive far to see them and if you have bunnies this is the only place to go. The clinic also works closely with many local bunny rescues including The House Rabbit Society and The Rabbit Haven and provides discounts. Dr. Harvey saw some of my foster bunnies and many other chronic medical needs bunny. Again, both doctors are bunny saints. read more

Wow, Dr. Neely really is one of a kind. I shall tell the story, which starts poorly but ends well. A few years ago, I hooked up with Chabot Vet Clinic based on reviews and neighborhood recs. b/c we had acquired two Siamese twin cats. One cat has always had a problem with her small intestine spewing dry-food-colored diarrhea (sorry for the detail). Our first doc at Chabot offered no concrete steps forward except a suggestion of several questionably effective tests. The only concrete recommendation was for teeth cleaning. Later, when we went in for the teeth cleaning, I was told there was nothing particularly wrong with my cat's teeth. So, money lost and mixed messages. My personal takeaway from the first doctor's initial, bummer evaluation regarding the diarrhea: "it could be this, it could be that, but we'll never know if it's a food allergy without endless trials of one diet or another for many months at a time each. Plus, expensive and probably pointless tests will show that it's a waste of time to bother with such tests." Dr. Neely took much more caring and step-by-step strategy, which was (logically) to change the food for something very hypoallergenic (albeit expensive as hell), followed later by a rec. for metronidazole, which we did for weeks. I was skeptical, but gosh darn-it, after probably 1 1/2 months of both therapies, I've seen that my cat now poops correctly. Plus, Dr. Neely followed up by phone to ensure we didn't get lost in the noise of patient care. I am truly grateful for Dr. Neely for following up every few weeks and not giving up! Absolutely the worst communication I've seen in a business ever. The staff puts you on hold and forgets about you. They take messages and claim to speak to the doctor yet never call back. They don't return emails. You sit outside for 40 min to pick up your pet even though they tell you to come. They don't fill prescriptions properly or have them ready when they say so. I understand it's a busy office but it's every time I've come. The doctors are good and I only come for the rabbit care, I take my dogs and cats elsewhere, but I will be seeking rabbit care elsewhere even if I have to drive. Not getting medicine or a doctor to follow up after a pretty extensive and expensive procedure is unacceptable. read more

All of the staff really do care at Chabot. Many of the front desk staff show so much love for the patients, even my little rats get tons of love! Each of the vets also share compassion for the pets and I've never had any issues working with them. I've had many checkups, a teeth cleaning, a few abscesses on the cats, and a surgery coming up for one of the rats. They have also been extremely caring and helpful with the diagnosis and loss of one of the cats. The downsides? They can be busy and appointments tend to be a week out. It's hard to get them on the phone right away because they are already helping someone. Also, the facility is older. These are good problems to have and the older facility keeps the prices reasonable. Going on 6 years and very happy here. read more

I used to go to Chabot Vet with my mom 25 years ago, and now I go here with my husband. Consistent, compassionate care for our cats no matter which vet we end up seeing (as it does seem to rotate). We have been going to Chabot Veterinary since 2000. Drs. Hughes and Marmolejo are both so kind and caring not to mention excellent clinicians we could not ask for better care for our cat. In 2008 Dr. Hughes ordered some blood tests on a funny hunch related to Tigger's dental problems and ended up discovering several tumors on her liver and mammary glands. These were removed and Tigger is still doing very well these days at 15 yrs old. Back in 2005 we adopted a kitten that was later found to have had Feline Infectious Peritonitis and had to be put to sleep at 9 months. Dr. George was so compassionate throughout the heartbreaking progression of the disease, we will never forget it. read more

This review is really for Dr Leuhman. She has been wonderful in helping and saving our bunny. And guided is through the whole situation, always responsive to our questions, and always in the best interest of both of the bunny patient and human clients. Highly recommended. We were on our way to put down our bunny as she was extremely sick and was at the point of no longer accepting forced feeding and no longer using the litter box on her own. Our regular vet did one last check and said our bunny still had fight and made some calls. She recommended we bring our bunny to Chabot veterinary, as they had experience with similar cases of severe anemia. We rushed over and we were fortunate they could fit us in for an emergency appointment. After reviewing past medical history and results, they suspected liver torsion was the cause of the severe anemia. They performed a fast ultrasound and confirmed with a very high probability that liver torsion was the cause. Dr Leuhman explained all possible causes, all possible treatments, and consulted with the other doctors as well. Surgery was recommended in order to have the highest chance of survival. Unfortunately, the cost was outside of our budget. Dr Leuhman worked out an arrangement with us in order to save the bunny's life. Surgery was performed and the bunny was saved! She was back to eating on her own and hopping about. Unfortunately, the bunny passed a week later unexpectedly. A biopsy determined she also had lymphoma cancer, which is extremely rare for a bunny of young age. Nonetheless, we are extremely grateful for the care and compassion from Dr Leuhman and her motivation to save our bunny's life. She also got us an appointment to make sure our other bunny want going through the same thing. And luckily, he is doing fine. read more

Dr Harvey and the staff here has seen my 2 Guinea Pigs over the last several years and they are all outstanding. It's been hard to find a Vet to treat my animals and ever since coming here I've always received above and beyond treatments for them. They always have the best interest of the animals and do not overcharge like some other places I've been too before. My partner and I both had such an amazing experience here. Such kind vets and excellent with all our animals. Unfortunately we had to put 2 down, one right after another. One got hit by a car and wasn't able to recover from it. The other of old age and a tumor. I would highly recommend this office. It's a long wait to get your first appointment but once you're in, you're in with family. I won't trust anyone else with our fur babies. This review is for a wellness appointment with Dr. Neely for my two guinea pigs. I am so glad I found this clinic, because they have vets with significant experience in seeing exotics (bunnies, guinea pigs, etc). Be sure to make a wellness appointment if you want this place to be your main vet, because this clinic only sees returning patients for urgent appointments, and booking a wellness appointment took me two months. It may seem to go against nature to book a wellness exam when your animals are doing fine, but think of it as a down payment, so that in the future, if/when something does go wrong, you have a wonderful clinic to rely on. Dr. Neely is kind, knowledgeable, and warm. I was skeptical as to whether I would learn anything new (because I spend about 30% of my life browsing online guinea pig forums), but Dr. Neely was so thorough with the interview and the exam (spent about 10 minutes asking me about their lifestyle, and then 10 minutes with each piggy), and she gave me a lot of new care tips and things to watch out for. She was also so gentle with my piggies, even though they were completely frightened and trying to make an escape the entire time. They significantly calmed down by the end of the exam, and they even let her take a rectal temperature?!?! Anyone with sassy and squeamish pets knows how much of a miracle this is. Because of previous bad experiences, I was worried that I would be charged extra fees or pushed to unnecessary check ups that cost more, but none of that happened. The office told me the price for the exams in advance, and that's exactly what they charged. I did have to wait 20 minutes after my appointment time to get into an exam room, but the front staff acknowledged and apologized for the wait. Update: My pet was wheezing yesterday, and I called the clinic to see if they could squeeze me in. They didn't have the guinea pig doctor in clinic that day, but they did refer me to another urgent clinic, which I went to that afternoon. Dr. Harvey also called me the next day to ask how my pet was doing and that there was a possible opening for her to be seen the next day if she still needed to be seen. The last 3 or 4 times I have brought my dogs (on time)for their scheduled appointments, I've had to wait at least 45 minutes to an hour before my dogs were even seen. Twice for vet tech appointments which only take a few minutes for the vet tech to administer medication. The last time was for a scheduled visit with an actual vet. Front desk consistently put callers on hold for up to 20 minutes before you can talk to anyone. I have even learned from another vet specialist that the allergy medication that I was buying from Chabot for $75 wasn't even a high enough dose for my dog's weight and could be bought for much less at Costco. Not to mention, when my dog's medication refills run out, I have to repeatedly call back and fourth with the vet and pharmacy at Costco because both sides say they haven't been given the prescription refill request. Like I said, they've been great in the past but I'm seriously considering a new veterinarian if the poor service continues. read more

We have a wabbit we weally, weally WUV!! We adopted her from a family who could no longer take care of her. Bunny was weally filthy and for an all-white New Zealand wabbit, it just wasn't pwetty! We could have changed her proper name from Snowflake to Mudpie! So, Bunny got a big bath, a big new hutch, and freedom to roam in the living room for exercise. After Bunny's first bath, we thought we discovered a nasty tumor. After two visits to Alameda Pet Hospital, we got referred to Dr. Harvey. Kudos for Dr. Buchinger at Alameda Pet Hospital for referring us to Dr. Harvey for a second opinion. It spared us the cost of an expensive biopsy. Today I took her to see Dr. Harvey at Chabot VC and she IS the Rabbit GURU! She must have been a rabbit in a prior life....or some form of lagomorph. She gave Bunny a complete exam and took one look at the "tumor" and diagnosed it as a fairly common benign polyp. Cool, no cancer! The odd outgrowth around it turned out to be her tail that she broke once upon a time. *phew* Sure is in an odd place, but we can live with that if she can. During the whole exam, Dr. Harvey spoke very soothingly to Bunny. The treatment plan Dr. Harvey prescribed was very easy to follow. I am so relieved! Chabot VC is also a very popular Dog and Cat hospital as well. Every cat-owner I spoke with was very happy with the clinic. The young man working in the front office was also a complete doll.
