They claim to use Taiwanese brown sugar. I am Taiwanese and it definitely does not taste like brown sugar pearl milk, more like ranch 99 bought brown sugar. You really can't trust reviews and star ratings on Yelp anymore. I was drawn by the 4 stat reviews, came here with my wife and it's so bad that neither of us can even finish our drinks. This review is majorily in regards to staff. The boba drink was pretty decent though overly sweet. I have been here many times though this is my 1st review. All drinks from here have traditionally been quite tasty. I've had a huge variety of the drink options as well as the boba hot pot (which was a bit expensive for what it was, but it was a fun thing to try at least once). The staff have usually been pretty decent. Nothing stellar or horrible to write about normally. But I have noticed that the quality of the staff has been slowly getting worse. In my most recent visit on 4/25/2019 in the evening, a male staff member was partnered with another female staff member. I ordered 2 drinks with one of the drinks being a freebie due to 10 visits. I told him to use the freebie for the more expensive drink. He failed to do this and when I explained it to him, he tried to use his piss-poor math skills and tell me that $3.75 + $0.75 (add-on) was $5.50 while another drink was $4.75. Regardless, the only part that was taken off was $3.75. For the sake of not making a scene, I left it be. After I got my drink, I noticed that it was not made to my specifications (50% sweet, 0% ice) as it had ice. I told him of this error and he went and popped the top off and just dumped the ice out and refilled it up with pure milk (which anyone would know that just waters down the flavor) and then put a dash of seasoning on top before putting a cap on it (instead of a seal). I told him I wanted a seal because I came in on a bike and obviously I can't take a non-sealed cup with me on a bike (I had a helmet on so this was very obvious). He groaned like I'm the idiot and he had to put up with me. When he popped the cap off this time, he exploded the entire drink and his teammate helped him clean up the mess. Not a word was exchanged between the two and not a single apology came from the man to me for having to mess up not only my request in excluding the more expensive drink or having messed up my drink multiple times. The communication is absolutely horrible and non-existent. After he remade my drink again, I said thank you and he just walked off. We have been looking for a new milk tea spot in the Newark / Fremont area so we have tried numerous spots around town. Many of them are sadly mediocre. 99% Tea House was a good find! We were immediately greeted when we walked in. The guy was so nice in helping us choose flavors he also explained that they use quality ingredients and use cane sugar! That was important to me. Placed online order, but drink was not ready at pickup time. My plan to pop in and out failed and I had to wait around with others who were not respectful of the 6 feet rule. after sushi, gotta get boba, so saw this place a couple stores down from Satomi Sushi. Menu is small, but that's good, cus it's not overwhelming. I got the Black Milk tea with boba, and oolong milk tea with grass jelly and my kids ordered the Kumqaut lemon green tea which came with basil seeds and aloe vera and we added litchi jelly. I didn't care of the taste of the kumquate lemon green tea, it had a bitter taste at the end and i hate bitter foods. my oolong milk tea wasn't that great, but my son liked it so he finished it. But the black milk tea was bomb. I loved it. Will sure be coming back to try other flavors like their matcha creama tea. YUm read more

This place is really cool Helen , Helen roommate , Alan and staff are really friendly. This is my go to place when I need a pick me up hahaha. Owner really friendly and welcoming make me want to come back. The staff all ways have great recommendation on drinks . I like the regular milk team and almond milk tea are my favorites. I wish this place can stay open until 11pm just for that late night fix. Keep up the good work I'll be back to my hidden gym. read more

Came here twice. First time, they did not have hot drinks yet. Ordered their green tea machiatto, which was ok.. Second time, they did have hot drinks. Ordered the oolong milk tea. It took forever to come out. Then when it did, the worker told me the drinks were very hot and to be careful. Drinks were barely luke warm, and didn't even taste like oolong. Tasted like their regular tea. I ended up taking it home to microwave, which did make it taste a little better. Long story short, do not get their hot drinks here. Stick to the cold ones. Also, their drinks here are a little too milky for my taste. Overall, place is ok. Good spot to go after eating dinner in this plaza. They do have happy hour discount until 5pm if anyone can actually make that after work. read more

I've had a lot of baba in my days, but this one is above the rest. The variety of flavors is great, and each one is made so well! I especially like the cream puff boba and the panda one. I just had their kumquat tea today and it was surprisingly good and hydrating! The customer service is also really good. They can change up your order however you like. The menu isn't very broad, if I remember correctly there were only a few teas like Green, Black and Oolong. Other than that they have their special "Milky's". This review is just for the Oolong Milk Tea. Overall I'd say to get standard sweetness if you want some sweetness in your drink, I opted for 50% and there was just a hint of sweetness. The milk tea was nothing special and the tea did not stand out. I'd recommend trying their special Milky's or their fruit teas instead. read more

Loved this place. It was very clean and the employees were very helpful. I went with the Thai tea and was completely satisfied. The boba pearls were grade A and definitely worth it. The menu is to the point all delicious. I also tried 2 of the macaroons that they had available, Oreo and red velvet, DELICIOUS. Definitely will be coming back to try new things! read more

I was excited to see an alternative to T4 in the area, since that place always takes FOREVER. 99% Tea House has much faster service. Although their menu isn't huge, they had several options I like. The quality of the tea and the boba is important to me, especially since I order mine only 25% sugar and no milk. They do a solid job with their fresh brewed tea and the boba was very tasty. Our order was an oolong tea, a honey black tea, and a jasmine milk tea. All were very good, but like others we thought the milk tea was a little too milky. Seems like they need to adjust their ratio to include more tea. Both times I've been here has been during happy hour. That's a really good deal. All three large sized drinks were under $9. Love the dog themed cups, and that they are pooch friendly. Really hope this little shop makes it!! read more

If you haven't gone to this place, you really should go try it out. I've been here once and since then I've been wanting to go back. The shop is pretty small. But the decor is stinking cute. There isn't much to say about this place except go during happy hour. Their happy hour prices are ridiculous! Its pretty cheap and it's yummy. I've been here several times now and this has definitely become one of my favorite tea/boba shops. Favorites: Kumquat Fruit Tea - SO refreshing, a bit tangy, and with Basil seeds. My go-to when I'm not in the mood for milk. Almond Milk Tea with Lychee - it sounds weird, but they compliment each other well. I normally don't like almond flavor because it's usually too sweet, but the lychee adds a nice tartness to it. It's great for when I'm in the mood for lychee and milk! I am in love with this place! I ordered peach green tea and green tea sea salt macchiato and both drinks were delicious! I'm an avid tea drinker so my number 1 requirement for any tea place is the quality of the tea and this place totally delivers. Both drinks had a strong presence of green tea in the taste and because the tea was brewed from loose leaf tea and was not overcooked the drinks tasted like freshly brewed (I had the peach green tea the next day...as I'm writing this review) and crisp. The customer service here is also very accommodating and attentive. You can also reduce the ice level and sweetness level. Their menu is smaller but if you just want a good tea drink you don't need a whole lot of frills. If I'm in the area I will definitely return! read more

My boyfriend and I felt like getting boba after dinner, but we didn't want to go to just any spot and realized with the gas that we had, local was the way to go. Apparently this plaza just opened up this spot because I've been going to this plaza for years. I looked at recent reviews and seen that the Milky w/black rice is pretty famous. I thought that I'd give it a go instead of getting normal milk tea. My boyfriend got the coconut milky w/black rice which is very rich and doesn't have that watered down coconut taste like most milk tea places. I got the vanilla milky w/black rice and pearls. Mine was perfectly sweet and went hand in hand with the black rice. My boyfriend said its like a snack and a drink at the same time. He does suggest adding cinnamon in that way it's like a rice pudding horchata drink. This place is a go to and I would visit again! They also got the macaron ice cream. However since its Mavens, I assume it would be the standard size, like the size of your palm, but they sell the miniature ones. Still packs a lot of taste and doesn't disappoint. read more
