Let me set the scene. It's a Saturday. I'm in a Pilot truck stop in Kentwood, Louisiana, somewhere between Mississippi and my dreams of a New Orleans beignet. My family is road-tripping, the dog is judging all of us from the back seat, and I am not expecting much from life at this particular moment. And then. THEN. I see the sign. Chacha's Dhaba Indian Cuisine. Inside a truck stop. On I-55. In Louisiana. I ordered. What came out of that kitchen was so good, so bold, so ridiculously authentic that I stood there in the middle of a Pilot Flying J questioning every fancy restaurant I have ever paid too much money for. The flavors were incredible. The food was made from scratch. The whole experience was so unexpectedly wonderful that I am still talking about it an hour down the road while my family nods politely because I will not stop. Chacha's Dhaba has officially cracked my top 3 meals anywhere in the United States. Not top 3 truck stop meals. Top 3 ANYWHERE. Full stop. If you pass this exit and don't stop, that is simply a choice you are making against yourself. Walk into that Pilot, find Chacha's Dhaba, and prepare to be delightfully humbled. Hidden gem doesn't even begin to cover it. This place is a whole treasure chest.

Around my area lacks restaurants/places that serve Indian cuisine, so I was thrilled when Chacha Dhaba appeared in my social media fees. It's located inside a Pilat gas station, which also features other food options that I would like to try on a future visit. The dining area is spacious, bright and welcoming. Now let's talk about the food. I found the prices to be reasonable, and customer service was friendly. I ordered chicken pakora, raita, garlic Naan, and butter chicken. I really enjoyed the chicken pakora, which consisted of a nicely sized pieces of chicken breast seasoned with spices. The raita was a refreshing yogurt sauce, but ai felt it was a bit overpriced at $3.95, as a small container was only half full. The garlic naan had a great garlic flavor and was also a good size. The butter chicken was creamy and flavorful, but I requested extra spice. Having Indian food before, I expected it to be spicier, so I was a bit disappointed. Overall, Chacha Dhaba is a nice place to try and recommend.

Great food, made to order with all the spices. I get the biyani on a regular basis and I have never been disappointed.

Alright so we stopped here after checking on yelp during our visit to Mississippi at 5:30 pm…read morearound. Many stuffs were over and owner claimed that most things get sold out by afternoon so it seems they cook everything in morning only and sell for full day. We ordered samosa , tea and combo meal. Samosa was looking old but tasted good. Tea was water with tea powder. While giving combo, owner offered us 1 extra curry as complementary. I was surprised and happy both. Anyways got food. First bite of food from plate and felt curry was spoiled. Asked my wife to try too and confirmed chola curry was spoiled. Next curry chicken tikka masala - result was same. Sour and foul taste. Okay next curry - khoya paneer, this again spoiled. Last curry of beans and potato was our least favorite and bad luck this curry tasted good. 3/4 curries were spoiled food which was due to long kept stale items. We told owner and he offered another curry, it was daal fry and that was spoiled too. This is the worst ever food experience we had in any Indian restaurant. Few in the past gave old food but atleast not spoiled ones. This surpasses every one. There is a hygienic and food poisoning concerns here and would ask everyone to take care. Shamelss owner still charged for food after seeing that we left everything in plate. Only naan and rice we could eat with that 1 out of 5 curries. And infact he charged $3 more it seems on my card which is still pending transaction. Going to open a dispute case via American Express if more amount is posted in my account.

The chickpeas in one container were cold, and in the other barely warm. The tandoori chicken, I think that's what it was supposed to be, was sort of slimy. The yellow dal was spongy and inedible. We ordered spinach and cheese as side and didn't get it, I guess that's why we had two orders with chicken peas when we only asked for one? The rasmalai was a weird texture, unlike any I've had before. Then there is the appetizer. The picture with the strange chicken tandoori. It's supposed to have samosas, tandoori chicken, veggie pakora, paneer pakora, chicken pakora, and naan. The only one that was even remotely represented was the tandoori chicken. There should have been at least two pieces of naan, since each combo is supposed to die with it. There was one. Also, the rice was not normal Indian rice, it had green beans in it? The entire meal was inedible. How do we know it's safe to eat when it arrived cold?

This has to be one of the best Indian restaurants in the country. As a person who has tried lots of Indian restaurants, this place stands out above all. The service is impeccable. I wouldn't expect anything less given the quality and the taste of the food coming out of that kitchen. Our servers were very proper, very respectful, very courteous, and you could tell they were very proud of the food they were serving. The space is very well decorated, not a giant restaurant. If you don't already know who they are, you honestly don't expect what you're about to taste, and you're in for a ride. Every plate had something special to it. I didn't think I could fall in love again with lamb chops, but they proved me wrong. Reminded me of the first time I ever bit a GOOD lamb chop. I didn't think I would be impressed by (seemingly) fried chicken bits, but you too won't understand why they're so good when you bite into them. Fried cauliflower, AMAZING. I don't even like cauliflower - the ears are weird. We had.. Crispy Gobi Chicken Pakoda Tandoori Shrimp Tandoori Lamb Malabar Fish Cury Kolhapuri Chicken For drinks we had Vodka Mango Lassi (he knew I was in it for the vodka) Spicy Margarita (very good and very nicely presented) This place is a MUST GO

Great food, great service, great experience!…read more One of my favorite things about Indian and Pakistani restaurants is the aroma that hits when you open the door. It's what I assume heaven smells like. When you open the door at Shyan's you're greeted by that and a boisterous welcome from the kitchen. But let me come back to the aroma for a minute, because it's relevant. Rather than a generic mix of seasonings, this is like walking into someone's home kitchen and getting a snapshot of what is cooking right then. Ok, the food! I ordered the saag chicken with rice and naan. I hate that I didn't try anything else because it all looked amazing, but my friends, that saag chicken was to die for. I've had saag dishes several times (not enough) but this one was the best I have ever tried. I want to live in that mix of spices and chicken. The naan was huge and perfect. Flaky, savory, pillowy, pick an adjective and you will be happy. I will be back as often as I can. Amazing experience.
