I have lived in Portland three years now and one of the hardest things about relocating can be finding the right people to start new business/client relationships with. I had my last hair stylist for over 10 years, and starting over in this town has not been easy. Until Chachi. He is the absolute best. I have thick long curly hair and have watched many a stylist try to blow it out, with the result being me running home to give it once over with my straightener, after paying upwards of 200 dollars with tip. Not with Chachi. I finally struck good fortune when a former co-worker referred me to him. I loved her hair cut and immediately asked her who was responsible for her long beautifully layered tresses. I've been a few times now and I won't go anywhere else. The second best part is that he's quick! A cut and color usually would keep me 2.5 hours in the hair chair but Chachi has me in and out in just over an hour. Sleek, smooth, bouncy, sexy layers. Was not happy with the results a week after my color was done. Color was inconsistent and an inch down from the hairline. Sections of missing highlights, and harsh cutoff of color. Highlights were all different colors because some areas did not lift to what it was supposed to be. Contacted the Salon to see if they could fix it, and they said they could schedule a consultation for next time. I don't plan to go next time if they can't get it right the first time. I recently got a hair cut from Madeline and am SO happy with the results. I don't usually come in with a very good idea of what I want, just some general suggestions. She took them and ran with it and did a fab job. The scalp massage was a great way to start the process; so relaxing! Don't let this girl fool you, she may be small and quiet but she packs a punch when it comes to talent. Not only does she do hair, she is also a makeup artist extraordinaire. If you're looking for special event or bridal makeup, look no further. Her prices are very reasonable and well worth it! I came in on a Saturday afternoon and it was pleasantly calm. They have a great, modern space in NW Portland. If you check in on Yelp or Facebook, you get 15% off products, so I snagged one of their new Redken products (they also carry Pureology) for anti breakage. I love it! read more

My 14 year old granddaughter tried coloring her hair with predictably poor results. Kalei Robb, stylist for Chachi Hair in NW Portland, totally saved the day. Kalei tested her hair for possible damage and helped my very nervous granddaughter feel comfortable. Kalei is a true professional, providing us with the time requirements as well as the final cost prior to proceeding. It all had a happy ending, as my granddaughter was thrilled with the outcome. It included having to lighten her hair to extract the too dark coloring and then cut and properly color. Kudos to Kalei and I highly recommend her. read more

Came in to see Isabel today to lighten my dark hair. I already had color on my hair, and that can complicate the process. Not the case for Isabel! I am trying to grow my hair out, so keeping it healthy is a must. She absolutely kept that in mind as she painted in baylage and toned it to perfection! She has such a great eye. The highlights were perfectly placed. She gave my chin length bob a trim and subtle shaping allowing me to keep my length. Anyone who has tried to grow out a pixie can absolutely speak to the frustration of a stylist cutting off WAY too much. Definitely not the case here. I am thrilled to find a regular stylist. Chachi (of "Chachi for Hair") is one of those stylists who not only took pity on me but did his magic in record time. (And as we picky b*tches know more than anything, once we finally find that diamond in the rough stylist we can depend on - they are worth their weight in gold). And Chachi is definitely that - and a bag of chips. He is great at what he does and FAST. And I wasn't kidding when I said I had impossible hopes, standards and expectations for any of you out there who can relate... I had the best hair experience ever at Chachi hair just a few days ago. I have lived in portland for about 4 years and have gone to several salons trying to find the perfect fit with someone that is talented, fun and creative. I've been let down a lot because I like to do funky color and cuts, but FINALLY I think I've found my match!! I went in with a mess for hair color. I was in need for some serious damage control and Nicole came to my rescue. Going into the salon my hair was like 4 different colors and grown out so it was pretty gross. I knew I wanted to go dark and keep some of the red tones in my hair. Nicole suggested I start with the dark and kind of fade it into the color I had underneath already. She was very concise and confident while getting everything started I knew it was going to look great even before it washed out. She then put an all over color enhancer type thing (sorry don't know what its actually called) over all of my hair to give it a fun deep orange/red shine. The final product was beautiful! Its even and you can't tell it looked like pooh before. To top it off the salon uses redkin and Pureology, which is my favorite hair product line. The salon itself is so cute and relaxing to be in. All in all this is by far the most fun and satisfying hair experience I have had since I've moved here. read more

I used a Groupon on 4/2/2013. I called and was in on a same day appointment. I wanted a few inches off my hair and I had some Groupon bucks to waste. My stylist was Emily and everything about my time with her was really lovely. I enjoyed talking to her and I am very pleased with my new haircut! We discussed my hair, not just the usual "what do you want me to do" but an actual conversation. She made a few suggestions and told me how a different type of layer would benefit my face shape. She really listened to me. I am very happy with my haircut. When you tell a new stylist to take a few inches off, you always worry if you are going to get chopped but the length of my hair is great! It makes my face look a little leaner and with the additional layers she added, I have a lot more volume even without blow-drying! I would actually take a little more off but I will save it for the next visit. I will be seeing Emily again for my next cut and for the color as well. The website for Chachi says they are still offering the price I paid with my Groupon for new clients. $27 for a cut and a deep conditioning treatment. It was a good deal and let me meet a new hair genius! Thank you Emily! I will be back! PROS: My scalp massage was awesome. She massaged me the entire time the conditioning treatment was on and it was heaven. The shampoo bowl has a foam block which kept my head and neck from getting stressed. The parking was easier than I thought it would be. The salon was clean and comfortable. I was told about the different products they sell at the salon but I was not pressured to purchase anything. I will buy from them because they have good pricing and also because I wasn't attacked with products as I have been in the past. (Magnum Opus, you know who you are.) CONS: The other stylists in the salon could have been a little friendlier. They were without clients when I walked in and didn't give off the vibe I would expect from a salon interested in new clientele. I'm not looking for new best friends but I felt like I was interrupting them. Some of the Yelp reviews mentioned getting a beverage at the time of their service. A woman who came in towards the end of my session was offered wine. I was not offered anything and it would have been really nice to have some water. I was set up with an appointment with Daniel to do a re-do on a cut I'd had by a different stylist at the salon. While it was a little bit of a hassle to come back in for a re-cut, it was 100% worth it because it meant I got to meet my new permanent stylist for as long as I live in Portland. Daniel is just FANTASTIC. His touch-up turned out to be one of the best cuts I've ever had. He had a great idea for a look that work better for my face shape and hair style, and as someone who doesn't know a ton about choosing styles, I really appreciated his judgement and expertise in executing the look. I visited this salon to get ombré hair and a haircut. I called for an estimate beforehand, and they said it started at $114. The stylist's name was Dakota. The haircut was a lot shorter than I wanted, and she talked me into basically getting highlights instead of ombré like I asked for. She said that the ombré look with two gradient colors was popular two years ago but now what's popular is a more gradual look. I assumed that meant like 4 gradient colors going vertically. Instead, it was just regular foils, which I consider a very dated look. I also saw Chachi bleaching someone's hair next to me, and it looked really bad. It was very brassy, and frankly, if I were a stylist I would not have let someone leave the studio with that shade of hair. The ends of my hair were really blunt, not at all feathery and blended, so I ended up taking a straight razor to the ends when I got home. She freestyled my bangs and they were totally uneven. I told her they were uneven, and she glared at me like evening them out was such a burden. So, she did a bit more cutting, and they were STILL uneven. I ended up having to make an appointment at Ginger Salon (they are freakin' awesome, by the way, and didn't even charge me for this service) to fix my bangs, and my stylist there was appalled that Dakota just freestyled my bangs. Wow, the difference in my bangs was night and day. Dakota had a very elitist attitude and she did not have the skills to back up her snobby attitude. She had only just moved to Portland and she acted superior to me because I don't currently live downtown, despite the fact that I have lived in Portland for 16 years, including NW and downtown. I told her I live in far SE Portland because the rent is reasonable, and she said, "well, I bet your apartment is just as nice as mine." I live in a three bedroom house. She was very patronizing. She seemed like she just wanted to get off work. After I complained, they did offer to fix my hair on the house, but I was too nervous to go back. I paid $162 + tip for the whole shebang, but ended up having to fix the ends myself and go to Ginger for a bang touch-up. I also went and purchased a lightening kit so that I can give myself a real ombré. Dakota has only been a stylist for two years, and the haircut and color I received was on par with Super Cuts, not a swanky Alphabet District establishment. I will not be going back, I will be going to Ginger Salon from now on where you can get a cut done by a Master Stylist with over 10 years of experience for the same price. read more

I'm not sure I would be as happy as I've been with short hair had I not found Chachi. My hair always looks trendy and stylish. He's introduced myself to some great styles. I saw Kim at Chachi for the first time and she was incredible. I have blonde hair that I get highlighted and it usually takes 3 to 4 hours from start to finish. Kim had me out of the salon in less than 2, and my hair looks and feels amazing! She's really fun and she listens to and respects her clients wishes. I went here because it had great reviews and Redken gave it its highest certification, so I thought they would do the best job at changing my hair from blue to red. After spending nearly $300 my hair was barely red and most of the color washed out after two washes. I decided to go back and give them another chance to fix it, and again it washed out after two washes and another $100. I then took my business elsewhere and my hair now maintains its color and doesn't feel like straw anymore and it only cost $75. Needless to say, this other salon will definitely be getting me as a client and not Chachi. read more

I've been to Chachi 3 times and 2 of these visits were for big changes in my hairstyle. The first was for a cut/conditioning treatment I bought on Groupon. Danielle (sadly no longer there) layered my hair beautifully! Before I kept my hair mainly to one length, but the layers she suggested made such a difference. My most recent trip last weekend, I decided to give bangs a chance again...after a decade or two. I brought 3 or 4 photos with me on my phone. I scheduled an appointment with Jennifer Cahill after reading through comments and the stylist profiles. She did a wonderful job! I wanted kind of shaggy bangs with longer layers on the side. Plus I have quite a bit of hair so it can be difficult getting the cut I want. She gave me ideas on styling to get the specific look I wanted too. I've had several compliments since and wanted to make sure to leave a glowing review for her. This is my very first yelp review and this place made me pop my yelp cherry. I just HAD to write a review. So, I'm new to Portland. When I needed to find a new place to get my hair done, I asked all around. Finally, I ended up purchasing a deal to Chachi's through Amazon and I hoped it would be ok. You never know what you're gonna get at a salon and I've been to a lot of salons. But I'm the type of person that will try ANYTHING new with my hair at least once. I like to explore. So, I find out that I'm with Nicole (which I'm super excited about since she has been getting such good reviews here). Let me just say.... NICOLE IS AWESOME. We hit it off right away. I LOVE it when hairstylists have opinions and suggestions for me. We decided on a red/violet color to put on my So. Cal. highlights to give me a more "Portland" look. But the way she did the color.....it was amazing. She did a darker color on the top with it fading lighter underneath. Nicole has an eye for color and took her time making sure it looked exactly like she wanted it. She then proceeded to give me a GREAT cut to bring out the highlights in the color. All around a great experience here! I will definitely be coming back. I also had the extreme pleasure of meeting the owner of this establishment, Chachi himself. He is so down to earth and hilarious. I felt like I was instant friends with everyone in the salon. All the reviews I came across were so positive that it finalized my decision to make an appointment - and I'm really glad I did. Nicole did such an amazing job, helping me come up with a brand new look, especially when I really didn't have much of an idea of what I wanted walking in to the salon. She went above and beyond, and I have to be honest, I look fantastic. ;o) The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, yet has an upscale feel at the same time. I have been seeing Chachi for 13 years. I have thin not great drab ugly hair basically. Chachi makes my hair beautiful. It's amazing. He mixes the perfect colors to lift here and lift there, cuts it so it looks like I have a full head of hair. 10 years ago I started having Chachi put mini extensions in for volume. NO ONE KNOWS I HAVE THEM! Not even other stylists! It looks that natural and good! No one in Portland/west coast is as good as Chachi. Hands down the BEST! read more

I had a fabulous cut and highlight from Josiah! I've been to several (and I mean several) salons in the Portland area and this one takes the cake. I even liked it better than the pretentious LA salons I've visited! I felt welcome from the moment I walked in! Josiah is super friendly and a great conversationalist. He really showed his passion and skill for doing hair. To me, he seemed more of an artist than a stylist - he took my skin color and face structure into consideration. I began going to Nicole Delepine at Chachi's in January. She is a perfectionist when it comes to color and will take extra time and effort to make sure you leave with exactly what you want. Overall, she does an excellent job and is very knowledgeable. She was able to get my hair platinum blonde from a dark reddish blonde after two visits without damaging my hair (definitely not an easy task). My friends and I also went to Nicole for prom style hair and she did an amazing job. She is great at doing extensions, as well. I like that she gives recommendations if you are unsure of what you want and she will not steer you wrong. Nicole is very friendly and personable, which makes time spent at the salon enjoyable. I was looking for a place walking distance from my apt that would take online reservations and this was it! I got there 5 mins early and was offered a beverage. I was greeted by the very friendly stylist (I forgot her name) on time. All I wanted was a blow dry, and they only charged $28, which I heard is cheaper than those blow out bars. The blow dry wasn't super impressive and didn't last that long, but it did the job. It would also help if the lady at the cashier appeared a little friendlier. I would probably come back if I need a last minute blow dry but for now will check out other places. read more

I was just recommending this place to a girlfriend and realized I haven't wrote a Yelp review! I love Nikki at Chachi, she is always so nice, never tries to sell you everything in the store, runs pretty much right on time and remembers you a year after you've been there last. I appreciate that you can easily book any appointment or service online, after normal business hours of over the weekend. I have long hair that I just let grow for 6-12 months in between appointments, so while my hairstyle is rather simple I have seen the girls who she has finished up with before my appointment and they all look great! read more

I previously had my hair cut here in portland by my sister in law who is a student at Aveda. That was fine and very cheap but i thought it was about time i found a salon i could go to time after time in the future. I will defiantly come back again. I am picky about my hair and recently had it colored at a different salon. I wasn't pleased with the results, so I decided to try Jennifer instead. Such great results! I was growing a really bad cut out ( I have curly hair and the last person jacked it up!) and decided to try chachi for the first time. I arrived a few minutes early for my 415 appt with Madeline. My first impression wasnt great. When I walked in I was not greeted and had to try to make eye contact with somebody to let them know I was there. They asked who I was there to see and told me to have a seat. They were really busy and it was loud so I understand. However, it wouldve been nice if they had a receptionist and they couldve offered me something to drink. I waited over thirty minutes before I got in the chair. Not a huge deal but inconvenient when you car pool to work and your husband is waiting outside! So those were the iffy parts. The great part was Madeline and the cut. She was thoughtful and professional. She quietly worked away at fixing my cut and did a beautiful job. Curly hair seems to be a problem for many stylists but not her. She had a few techniques I hadnt seen before and I was impressed. Im sure the next time will be even better since she got it on the right track. Overall, this is a good spot. It took 3 months to reverse the damage it was done to my hair by highlights and color, and the process is still not done, my hair is still very dry, tangles up really bad when I wash it and the color is gone, just a few highlights left as a reminder of how much I dislike bad highlights. First time I washed my hair after the salon visit I realized how much damage has been done to it. I purchased Pureology shampoo and conditioner, Moroccan oil, detangler, and other products to help my hair recover. Washing the hair was the worst. The hair would tangle up so bad that it almost made me cry. My hair was natural color (darker brown) when I went to the salon. I asked for all over one application color in the dark blonde. My intention was to go about three shades lighter. After three hours in the salon I came out of the salon with almost the same color and invisible highlights. Bleach was used for all over highlights, toner all over, and another semi permanent all over color. All that was done to my hair and my hair color looked almost the same if not the same. No one noticed that I colored my hair. read more
