I first went to her because she was open very early and my former haircutter had closed shop, so when I saw her open and working on SE Broadway, way back in the early 2000's, I decided to try her out. I have subsequently followed her cross town, to FYI in the Pearl. My daughter goes there, and we think of her as almost a part of the family. She had made every effort to accommodate us, even during COVID, and is always, always upbeat and a joy to talk to. She is one of the most industrious and positive people I've ever met--a real self-starter. This is the kind of person shes. Now let's talk about her skills. Made an appointment with Lueria. I actually found her through Yelp reviews and as this was my first perm ever, I thought she'd be a great fit for me with all of her great reviews about her work. She was able to get me in the following Sunday which was very wonderful since most places can't schedule an appointment until weeks, sometimes months away. I took my friend along since I'm not much of a talkative person when having my hair done but it actually was pretty nice! It was very enjoyable to see how excited not only my friend but Lueria was for my hair to turn out haha. The process was pretty good and only took around 3 hours for a perm. If you're looking to get a perm for the first time be aware that there's gonna be a lot of tugging at your head and a lot of weight on it that might cause pain. I'd also recommend to not wear makeup incase of getting ruined from water splashing! Price wise, if you're seriously looking for someone that knows what they're doing and has a lot of expertise it's a reasonable price. It's more on the pricier side but it's most definitely worth it! I went in for a perm cut consult first, as I was hesitant to make the jump to perming my incredibly fine, straight, thinner hair. But i was so ready for a change. She counseled me on what might work. Her prices are reasonable for the average person used to going to a Chic, downtown, upscale Salon, but that wasn't me. In a time when I'm sure she too could use the income, (COVID - era), she was kind enough to refer me to another stylist she fully trusted to perm my hair, but more in my price range. Lueria is awesome. I went in for a perm the other day because of a glowing review (see below) another client had given her. She knew right away what I was after and that she was *NOT* the one for this particular job. Instead of taking my money and giving me something that wasn't right for me, she actually took the time to call another salon and referred me to a reputable stylist who specializes in a unique style of perming (rag curl perm). (That salon is Studio 154 in NW) This is a big deal. It's tough to let money walk out the door and it shows integrity to send them to another stylist instead of telling them "It's just not possible" or "Maybe you will like this instead?" In a city saturated with underpaid/undertipped stylists (myself being one) this sort of character is few and far between. It was refreshing to meet a stylist who is truly invested in the needs of her clientele, even when it means she's not the lady for the job. FYI Salon is also really cute. It's a teeny loft style establishment in the Pearl, with Kerastase products/treatments and Lindor Truffles in the candy bowl. I made sure to buy some product on the way out in order to prep my hair for the chemical process of perming, it was the least I could do. I would definitely recommend Lueria for your hair needs in future, though I didn't get to personally experience more than her astute consultation. Oh Portland, once again you have proven just what an awesome and amazing town you are. Not only do you have 2 damn amazingly talented designers on Project Runway. You also have an amazingly talented hairdresser and colorist who starts work at 6am!!! Who does that! Lueria Miller is a godsend, I cannot tell you how much I've tried to talk my hair dressers in SF and NYC into early appts only to be looked at like I was an alien stepping off my ship..... Lueria did my hair at 6am in Portland, I love that she does both color and cuts, to a maximum efficiency. I did not end up looking like a soccer mom and I did not have a mullet both hair cuts have happened in the past much to my horror. A good hairdresser is so hard to find!! Lueria Miller fits like a wet suit on a hot surfer. Now if only this review will convince her to move to NYC so I can once again have a hairdresser that fits my schedule!!! Just a little side note, I just got my hair done 2 weeks again, I had to take 4 hours off of work and I ended up paying $390 for a haircut and color and it was just meh, okay. Today is a day to remember: For the first time in my life, I left a salon completely happy with my new hair. Lueria gave me an adorable perm, and now I feel like a movie star. These curls are the best thing to happen to my head in a long, long time! But let me start at the beginning. I was passing through Portland, and hoped that I would get lucky and find a stylist to perm my hair on short notice. I've been dreaming of this sort of Marilyn Monroe/ Meg Ryan type of hair for quite a long time, and I just recently got the courage to go for it. It isn't easy to find a stylist that is confident and competent in the world of perms, because most gals want straight hair these days. I found FYI Salon on yelp and their rave reviews drew me in. They were all booked up though, so I almost left town without my dream perm... but this morning, the owner of the salon sent me a text message telling me that there was a slot open for my perm! Yay!! What service! Lueria came in on her day off and permed my hair. I knew right away she would be awesome, and she was. She is warm and kind and made me feel comfortable right away. I usually dread going into salons because of the catty attitudes that stylists often have. In fact, salons are sort of my worst night mare, and I often go way way way too long without getting my hair done because I can't deal with the salon vibe. But this was NOT the case with FYI. The staff are 100% professional and yet human and fun and smiling... basically perfect. It's a cute space, modern and clean with nice windows to the street outside. Last but not least, my hair looks and feels great-- Soft, bouncy curls that you see in movies and magazines. I love it! Lueria looked at my pictures and counseled me about what to expect, and she knew exactly what to do. Amazing. My only question is, "why did I wait so long to get this done?" She helped me transition to going my natural grey, in the most painless way, using foil highlights and lowlights. I am now completely natural and receive complimentary comments on my hair all the time (will never go back to dyeing or even highlighting). Today was my first visit to fyi salon. I was promptly and kindly greeted and met my stylist Lueria. I had emailed her a picture of exactly what I wanted and she nailed the color and cut. I would definitely recommend Lueria! I decided to make my first appointment with her after a good bit of research. I'm new to Portland so I needed someone with experience who came highly recommended. On top of that, I was looking to get a perm for the first time and was more than a little nervous! She did a fantastic job and I love it! Just moved to the area and popped into FYI since I live in the building. Lucky for me Lueria was in that day. I made an appt, and came back the next day. She was fantastic. She really took her time with me, and listened to what I wanted. She never made me feel rushed, or in a hurry to finish. The cut and color were perfect. She suggested I try Kerastase products. I was a little hesitant due to the price, but after using it just once I could tell the difference. My hair is shinier and healthier than it's ever been, just like Lueria said it would be. Lueria is great! I can't believe I got a 6:30 a.m. appointment on a Friday! I was able to relax and have my hair done by a true professional all while my husband and child slept, and I was even able to get to work on time. I'm only in Portland for a 6-month work project, so finding a stylist that could take over for my own in the meantime was challenging. Based on the several reviews here, I tried Lueria, and she was great. She spent the first 10 minutes just running her fingers through my hair trying to understand the lines my stylist used on my last cut, and she kept pretty true to those lines throughout. She gave lots of helpful styling tips, as well as great tips on how to beat the frizzies that the lovely Portland rain will cause. The cut turned out quite well, and I'm sure it will grow out nicely.
