The Hollywood location doesn't quite create the "ladies who lunch" ambiance like its predecessor, but I'd come back fo sho! The tomato bisque is SO GOOD. Had a ridiculous experience with owner Tek, after shopping for a gift for 20 min with young woman and other staff (who quoted $12 for a single serving loose tea pot and $25 for larger teapot) he comes in and says both sizes are $25 and then proceeds to argue, tell me he can not sell it to me, asks me what K want to pay, at one point refuses to sell it to me, then says he will pay the difference, then takes that back, then sells it to me for $25. Really poor customer service and consumer credibility issue. I received a Chocolate and Tea pairing for two for Christmas this year here and finally got around to making that reservation. My friend and I were hungry so we ordered some lunch before our chocolates. I had a simple chicken and greens salad and my friend had a panini, both were delicious and not too pricey. Then our chocolates and tea came out. 4 chocolates for each of us, pre-selected, along with a tea for each chocolate that brings out the flavors of both. The server was very knowledgeable about everything, explaining where the teas came from, how they complemented each other, and how to taste it best. I loved 3 out of the 4 samplings, but as a whole I think it was a nice well-rounded selection of teas and chocolates. The one I was not a fan of was the 3rd one to come out, which he explained they also used for marinating steaks and salmon, that was paired with a chocolate doused in whiskey and bourbon. It tasted like marinade, this tea lover couldn't even stand to finish the entire small cup. But that's what tastings are for! We had ordered a tea with our lunch, one of their wine-inspired teas called Pink Sonoma. It was very floral and only $5 for a full pot! I loved it! The server ended up leaving a couple pots of the teas we had paired with the chocolates as well, so we were over-stuffed with teas and teapots by lunch's end. The first time in my life I've probably not finished every pot. I also bought some of their loose leafs to go home with me. Each of the huge number of teas they offer is sold by the ounce, differing prices for each. The blooming teas are a tad more and if you do not have a clear teapot to watch it bloom, it's not worth the buy in my opinion. Everyone here was very nice and attentive, and it didn't seem real crowded for a Sunday afternoon. I see some people don't like how light the tea is, but I feel that if you are drinking tea with food, it should be light. If you are going to have strong tea, perhaps it should be complimented with a biscuit or such, but it's a meal replacement on its own. One, the meal was actually half the price of what I thought it was going to be, for I thought $18 per person was the cost of an afternoon tea experience, and it just happened it was $18 for the experience, plus $3 with anyone sharing in the experience. So, what a delight that my lady and I got a check for $22 (on which, I tipped over 20%. Let it be known- I give back in the tip if I'm rewarded in the check.) We wandered in after a walk without reservations. They had no tables inside but offered to sit us outside where nobody was, and we said "of course, absolutely." Why nobody would rather sit outside than the small interior, I have no idea. But, we sat there, relaxed, and were served well. My lady tried smoked salmon for the first time (with trepidation, we are introducing her diet to fish) and liked it, where I always enjoy the cream cheese and lox bite. Cucumber sandwich is what it was as is the rest. Most of the negative reviews, I feel, don't understand what afternoon tea is. First off- it's not American. Don't expect 2,000 calorie meals that stretch stomach lining. And, non-American food usually isn't riddled with artificial flavoring so the food will be spiced subtly (for instance, green onions instead of seasoned salt). Go here, in Hollywood, if you're looking to escape the hustle-and-bustle of a busy tourist area. Go here and relax, and take a moment for yourself. Then we had to wait an additional 10 minutes or so to receive menus, an additional 10 minutes before they helped us place our order, and after close to an hour after arriving we still hadn't received the basics of either tea or water. Well, I finally made it to Chado Tea Room - Hollywood. I bought a Living Social deal last November and called no less than five times since to make a reservation. Every single time, they said they were booked. But thanks to Yelpers, I went without reservation and, sure enough, there were tables available and we were seated. It wasn't that there were not people there and I'm sure they had to save some of the tables. But I have called at least two weeks in advance and they said they were already booked. Again, I called no less than five times. Our waitress was very nice and the whole experience was ok. The sandwiches at the Little Tokyo location tasted fresher. The tea temperature was a little bit above warm. It felt like something was missing and then I realized that they didn't bring out milk. They were responsive when I requested it. But that was the first time I didn't get milk with tea at an afternoon tea. Again, the food wasn't bad but I wouldn't go back to this location. read more

I usually like to go here to celebrate an occasion; I have taken my mom for Mother's day and I have taken a friend as a belated bridal shower celebration. It's very cute inside with all of the tea decorations and the different showcases the teas. You get to chose the tea you prefer from a book with hundreds of teas- which makes it hard to chose! Daniel seated us on the patio (it was perfect day) and then proceeded to suggest teas that suited us just right. Then our food was brought out. At first, we thought it might not be enough to fill us us up. But it turned out to be the perfect amount. And absolutely delicious. To say that Daniel was prompt and attentive would be an understatement. I've been here twice to date and have loved it! Once with a friend and once with my boyfriend so I think its a pretty versatile place to get lunch and afternoon tea. I only give this place 2 stars because most of the food was actually decent. Unfortunately this was the worst tea experience I've ever had! The service was horrible! First, we had a reservation but waited 10 minutes for someone to even acknowledge us. Then we were told to wait another 5 minutes for them to reset the table. Once seated it took about 10 minutes for anyone to come to our table. Once we placed our order it took about 15 minutes to get even a glass of water and our tea didn't come out until after our salads (about 20 minutes after our order was taken). Once our food came out we didn't see a server again until we were completely finished for about 15 minutes. So we basically sat there for 45 minutes with nothing from a server. When he did finally come around I asked for a box for my leftover cake. He came back a few minutes later, dropped the box and immediately walked away and never came back. We had a LivingSocial coupon that we gave him at the beginning of the meal so we didn't need a check but it would have been nice to get my parking validated. Finally after sitting there for another 15 minutes waiting for him to return I got up and went to the desk where he was being rude to someone that was asking if they had any availability. He snatched the ticket from me, validated it, and shoved it back at me with nothing more than a grunt. I am not one to not leave a tip but he certainly didn't deserve the $10 I left. I only left that because I couldn't manage to get change. I have been to a LOT of tea rooms and this was by far the worst experience. It was so loud we practically had to yell to talk, it was hot, the service was awful, and the food was just okay. Don't waste your money or your time. I had lots of questions and the staff were helpful with selecting the tea leaves to take home, I also needed a more modern tea infuser and the lady showed me two types right away. So, thanks to Yelp, I found this lovely gem in Hollywood/Highland! :) I decided to take my boyfriend here since he LOVES tea, and the idea of a high afternoon tea just sounded too cute to pass up! When we got there, we were interested in learning about the tea's available. Reina (who we later learned was the owner) was so helpful and suggested some wonderful teas for us. I had the Cherries tea (since I like more herbal red teas) and my boyfriend had the Gyokuro (a very light green tea). A pot of that, on top of some of the best scones and sandwhiches I'm had in a good while, made for one of the best dates ever. We ended up spending about $40, including tip, which IS a little pricy. But it is totally worth it for a special outing/date. We will definitely be visiting many more times to come! Thank you to Reina for running a beautiful and delicous tea room.
