Going to afternoon tea has been on my list of bougie things to do once I'm back in LA!! The Livining Room at the Peninsula hotel did not disappoint! I went Sunday, and saw a bottleneck at Valet so I found plenty of parking a block south and on the side street. Valet was only $18 for the 2 hours we were there so not awful at all. This hotel is super elegant and walking into The Living Room was like that, walking into a living room. It was right there past the receptionist and with a glass back drop of the garden. We opted for the 2nd tier, Premium. It doesn't change the tea choice ( you only get 1) or the food, it's just whatever champagne or bubbles you prefer. And oh my god! That rose was fantastic! I am not a rose fan, but I see why this one was considered Premium. I choose the coconut creme tea, thinking it might he herbal, but I didn't ask. I was planning on my jacked on caffeine and sugar before the day was over. All the finger sandwiches were fabulous, I ate them all. My favorite was the salmon, chicken and egg salad. Although I also enjoyed the egg plant. I can't tell you all the desserts that I ate. I ate all of that too. I literally only left half of a scone and the scones were fabulous as well. They were soft and they were fresh and I don't think i've ever had a fresh scone before so game changer! The service was perfect! Someone is coming by to pour you more tea. I came here on a Sunday with my mom and the presentation is beautiful. They offer valet parking. You walk straight past the lobby and run into the restaurant. They seated us right away for our reservation. My mom and I love high tea. We try a new place about twice a year. This place is stunning. The food is okay. I appreciated that my mom and I each had our own stand since most places do two of everything and place on one stand. The tea was good. It is a bit pricey - $135 per person for afternoon tea, an additional $65 per person for unlimited champagne. My mom & I both had the afternoon tea, she treated herself with the unlimited champagne and a $24 caviar bite which was so small, I would consider it half a bite. It was still worth a cute picture and my mom said it was delicious. The tip was included in our bill and was a little over $400. The servers are attentive and checked up on us often. I will say there is limited seating and although it is comfortable, it is a bit awkward. I would come back here for the aesthetics and look however as for food and traditional high tea, most likely not. read more

Came here to celebrate my friend's birthday at afternoon tea and it was so much fun! I've been to a few afternoon tea spots throughout LA and The Peninsula just does it best. It is pricey (maybe the priciest out there) but every element of the experience is top tier and you get what you pay for. The sandwiches, scones, and pastries are actually high quality and delicious. I love the variety of the sandwiches with some twists and premium ingredients like caviar. The scones are my favorite and not dry at all, it's served with clotted cream, lemon curd, and a berry jam - absolutely delicious. There's a lot of tea choices to choose from that will cater to a variety of tastes. The ambiance is what sets this afternoon tea apart from the rest. There's a live harpist! The Living Room decor feels very posh, the plates and cups have pretty designs, and the set is served on a silver 3-tier stand. The service is also fantastic! They kept coming back to refill our tea. If you make the decision, I recommend going on a day where you can absorb the classy and elegant (that slightly borders on stiff traditionally) vibe because no one deserves to have a troubled mind when enjoying luxurious tea. It is like a big sports guy, going to the Super Bowl, when back home they have a leaky faucet that is near full rupture but he cannot do anything until Monday. How is he suppose to enjoy viewing a fumble or bouncing cheerleaders or a roaring crowd with costumed fans, if there is a drip drip of worry in his mind that he cannot wrench into closing. I guess, this space is like a zen garden, where one goes to be present, not just to checkmark a daily meal. I say all that because I was silent for long moments, and I apologized to Ronnie for not engaging in conversation. And she said, "I understand, you are taking it all in." So this place is also a gallery of fancy, where one experiences tea in the cushions of Beverly Hills rarefied air. When I was there, I saw a large group of girls attending a baby shower. To me, it was a like small movie scene. All of them were gathered in a group, like lilies in a special patch, looking all pretty in nice dresses, long flowing hair, and were all smiles and refined in movement, taste and persona. I wondered why they were talking about? Ronnie anchored me back to reality and said, they are probably just catching up, just like us. She makes a good point--- a baby shower in a fancy tea room, is no different than a baby shower held in a back yard. Every one is there to give well-wishes and gifts, eat good food, and chat. There are obvious ways in which these two experiences are different but at their core they were the same: a group of people gathering to celebrate a coming child. One place just does it with white linens ironed to precious quality, while the other is limited to folded tables set up carefully so they don't break. I share this so that the reader knows that this place is so fancy, that I felt like I did not just have tea, I more felt like I was in a place that redefined fancy for me, and that in itself, is worth more than the 150.00 dollars I paid to sip rose tea. But still I would not do it again, because to sip rose tea and be pampered like a princess cost me 150.00 dollars. To translate this into a Yelp message: Go as a once in a life time experience to understand how the 1 percent enjoys their tea, and hopefully that adds to all that shapes your perspective of the world. The food was superb. I remember the chicken salad sandwich fondly. I remember the strawberries and cream. I remember being handed a warm towel to wipe my hands clean. I remember lounging, but again, this is more of an experience. Like I can have high tea again, but not like this because it is too precious to revisit on rewind. I rather have this be a bubble that strolls down Rodeo and Sunset than it be popped by another visit. I remember all of it as a kind of dream, which makes it more precious. There was also a harp player. But I am not going to say I was in heaven, that reach is too easy. Plus, I did not feel like I was in heaven, even though I sat in a cloud. I noticed to much, and thought to much about my surroundings. I was not at peace. I was in rest. The difference being is that peace comes with out thought, and rest can come with an analysis. My husband is British and when it comes to tea his standards are high; The Living Room met all those expectations and more. Got together with my besties and had the best time (again). We really enjoyed the ambiance of the harp player, sitting in a gorgeous living room and enjoying champagne and tea. Service was amazing, they were all very attentive to our needs and refilling our tea cups. We arrived late (30 mins) so the only thing was we weren't able to enjoy for too long which is why most of us opted out for +$50 unlimited champagne. However, a girlfriend decided they wanted another glass and was charged $30. Just letting my yelpers know either you have the one glass of champagne included with your package or you get the $50 unlimited for the 2 hour time frame. I was invited for High Tea for a special occasion. The set up was lovely and so comfortable. The service was excellent. They also had a harp player which was a nice touch. Each person received a lovely glass of champagne to start. Each person also received their own tower of items for the tea. I liked how that was done. We came to The Living Room to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant is located on the first floor of The Peninsula hotel in Beverly Hills. The atmosphere is upscale and elegant. There is a harpist playing music throughout your dining experience. For the last couple years we've celebrated many birthdays at afternoon tea locations throughout LA and OC, personally The Living Room is my favorite spot. The food, tea, and desserts all tasted great. Personally my favorite was the house smoked salmon with caviar and lime. I did afternoon tea here with my husband for our anniversary. It was a lovely set up in the lounge of the Peninsula hotel. Service was excellent and it felt so peaceful with the harp music near our table. They even asked us to choose a song for her to play. We both got the traditional tea service which came with a glass of champagne. I got English Breakfast which the server refilled for me when it got low. The teapots came with the cutest tea cozies. Everything felt so elegant. So much food came too. We got 6 finger sandwiches ranging from classics like egg salad, cucumber and chicken salad to salmon with caviar and this really interesting eggplant one. The scones were amazing and came with the best jam along with cream and lemon curd. An incredible high tea experience! I've been here twice and both times it has just been a socks knocked off experience. This is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion, plus the harpist- chefs kiss!! Yes- it's expensive, however once you go here not a single other high tea can touch this place! It is a bit steep on pricing but I have not had service as amazing as The Living Room. The staff is very friendly and on top of everything. The quality of the food beats anywhere else I have been for tea service. You even get an extra Bundt cake inside a white chocolate shell. I always end up taking that home, because I am already stuffed. Their take home bag is even good quality and reusable. The quality of the tea is great! Very flavorful. You will never have an empty cup. You aren't surrounded by tea pots. The staff has everyone's tea pot set aside nearby and they don't miss a beat. They fill your cup before you can empty it, every time. They never fill your cup with the wrong tea. They even filled one of my friend's cup of tea when she stepped out to use the restroom. They don't give you an upcharge for gluten free customers and they give them the same great quality and amount of food. No slices of cucumber or tomato in place of bread for an upcharge here. They don't mess orders up here, even when we had a party of 11. Did I mention that you never have an empty cup? (Until you run out of tea about five cups in). Yes, even in a party of 11. Elegant and beautiful. Glad I was able to make reservations on OpenTable. It feels just like you're walking into someone's living room for tea. They keep it simple by offering only two types of tea sets. The champagne is the only difference. Both sets come with a personal tower of sweet and savory, and choice of flavor tea, starting off with strawberries and whipped cream. The tower comes with two scones on the top tier; sweets in the center tier; and savory finger sandwiches on the bottom tier. Staff constantly pour tea into your cup. Because I was celebrating a family member's birthday, along with a couple of other parties in the room, staff came out singing Happy Birthday with a candle atop a white chocolate cover over a small Bundt cake. I've come here 3 years in a row for the holiday tea and I've been more and more disappointed every year. For $150 per person for the least expensive tea and $34/glass for the least expensive champagne, you would expect stellar service. The waiters here do the bare minimum. Good luck getting bottomless because you'll be fighting for their attention to get a refill. They barely checked on us, and they never refilled our tea pot or even brought us waters. I am shocked that people think that this was an exceptional high tea experience. I had reserved a seating for Valentine's Day weekend, but unfortunately, the rain forced them to close down on Monday after Valentine's Day. We showed up the following Saturday and wow, it felt like they had put the food in a refrigerator and saved it until we arrived. The sandwiches were tasteless, stale, and most were inedible. The sweets were also dry, tasteless, or left you feeling like you had a layer of lard on your lips. The only thing that was delicious were the scones. My last high tea experience was in London and this could not compare. Not what we expected at all esp at that price point. A glass of water was not standard. We had to request the water as well as refills. The first tea I got was terrible, but they were very happy to switch it out to something that was palatable. Yes, the ambience is nice but I am shocked that people pay such high prices for food that is dry, stale, expensive and tasteless. The only reason they get 2 stars is bc the servers Eric and Carlos were great. When they called to cancel 45 min before the service the week before, the woman that called couldn't even tell us why they were canceling. I couldn't have imagined poorer customer service from a hotel as seemingly reputable as the peninsula. They did offer us a discount to come back this weekend but after this experience I'm not sure that I will ever recommend this place to anyone. The servers are carrying the tea service. Once they brought the snacks and the tea I found a piece of plastic on my first bite. I was surprise because I expected much more. We joined my in-laws for an afternoon tea outing inside The Peninsula Beverly Hills. I booked reservations several weeks in advance for their first seating. When we arrived at the hotel, I was expecting the front entrance and lobby to be more upscale and elegant because of the location and price point. The decor was so plain and dull. As you pass the end of the lobby, you'll see the Living Room where you enjoy the tea service. The hostess was a bit flustered and didn't even give us a menu upon being seated. Our main server was attentive and friendly. Although, the bus person brought the wrong tea selection to our table. After all the mishaps, we still enjoyed our time. We had the traditional tea service ($125/pp), which includes a glass of champagne or French sparkling cider. After the champagne was flowing, they brought out some strawberries and cream. This was a light start leading into the 3 tier tower of scones, mini pastries, and tea sandwiches. We have had high tea in London, and the quality of the food here surpasses it. The pastries are intricately made and taste so light and delicious. For the tea sandwiches, we enjoyed the house smoked salmon with caviar, chicken salad, english cucumber, egg salad, and charred zucchini/asparagus All were very tasty and flavorful. The scones were soft and flaky, served with whipped butter and jam accompaniments. The tea selection consists of traditional, green, flavored & scented, and herbal infusions. I usually go with the Earl grey or English breakfast. These are classics that pair well with cream. One flavor worth trying is the tropical peninsula, which has creamy coconut notes. The service was amazing, the food was delicious and "The Living Room" at the Peninsula Hotel was beautiful. Our server, Erick, was very nice, attentive and helpful with his descriptions and recommendations on what to eat first. Scones were better eaten first because they come out warm. He recommended spreading the jam, lemon curd and cream and it was heavenly. The tea sandwiches were very tasty. With all the champagne, tea, trays of savory and sweet foods, we were more than satisfied with the amount of food offered. At the end they brought out the little cake under the valet hat made of white chocolate to sing happy birthday to my daughter while the harpist played the melody. We do not attend many tea services but have had our fair share and this is the best one so far. From beginning to end, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Wow, I have to say, it was quite pricey! I had an inkling that it would be on the expensive side, but I was hoping that the generous portion of food and drinks would make up for it. However, for $125, you only receive one glass of champagne, a choice of one tea (which does come with refills, but unfortunately they don't let you try the other teas they offer), a small serving of strawberries and cream, that tower of five mini sandwiches and a few sweets, and a teeny tiny cake at the end! Oh, and let's not forget about the added tax and the automatic 18% gratuity charge! Considering the amount of money spent, the overall experience left much to be desired. The chairs were not very comfortable, the living room area was uncomfortably warm, and they certainly rushed you through the experience. I had imagined it would be a delightful and memorable British tea afternoon, but sadly, it fell short of my expectations. This is a very pricey tea. That said, I mostly enjoyed it. However, at this price, I expect a few things to be done better. As we were seating 2, we had to wait until they had setup everything so they opened just a bit after 1:30. Once seated, things moved pretty quickly. Someone presented us with a menu and came back a short while later to ask if we'd like the fancy tea or the extra fancy unlimited champagne tea. We selected the regular, and as one in the party was preggers, we had a champagne and a fancy sparkling cider (which was delicious). Our first course, strawberries and cream came out fairly quickly. While we enjoyed that, they came by to fill our teacups and then we waited for the tea trolleys to arrive with our trays. Everything on the trays were delightful and we were stuffed. I took home all my desserts as well as the cap cake. Here's my one quibble; for the price I'm paying, if you're not leaving the teapot with me, come by often to refill. Monthly college roommate meet up took place at the Living Room on Sunday 6/30. Service was impeccable- from the valet attendant, to the door attendant to our waiter. Everyone was so nice & attentive. The space was small but beautiful. Only a certain number of parties can be seated during each time period (11am, 1:30pm, 4pm). Reservations are mandatory. No walk ins available. The harpist was amazing and played current music. All the staff was very friendly. Bathrooms were very nice and clean. Definitely a place to splurge. For 3 guests our bill was over $400. We ordered 3 Traditional Tea Towers. Plenty of tea options. The towers had all the same treats and sandwiches unless you have dietary restrictions. Will be back again. This is a great place for you to get dressed up and have a fun celebration whether it be a birthday, bridal shower, anniversary, etc. I've seen a lot of people get dressed up for it, and it is so cute. Obviously people come here for just because as well. The service is really quite good. They reach out to you day before to make note of allergy or dietary restrictions, which I found to be really thoughtful. The experience throughout is wonderful as well. The only thing that was a little bit of a turn off is, they will kick you out towards the end so they can prepare for the next tea service. Which it's understandable, but I think there needs to be a better way it's announced. Everything food wise is delicious. From the savory, the stand out will be the cucumber, chicken, salad, and smoked salmon sandwiches. The only thing that I didn't like was some of the piping on the sandwiches looked a little old (like the egg on the egg salad) I'm not sure how often the sandwiches are prepared in advance, but they tasted fine. The sweet options were really good but I don't remember any either of them standing out more than others. The fresh berries and cream and the scones are some of my favorite parts. I feel like the non-alcoholic option should be cheaper than alcoholic. Back to the service, they surprise you with a birthday cake tree, and sing to you which is so sweet and thoughtful!! I dined at the living room on Sunday, March 17th (reservation made because this is something my friend really wanted to do for her 35th birthday and Sunday worked best for both of our schedules). My reservation was at 11 am. I am not a runner, I don't live in the area, nor do I watch the news as often as I would like to being a busy teacher and mom. I was unaware of the LA marathon taking place right by the hotel as was the rest of my party. As I left my home, I made sure to have enough time to make it early to my reservation, according to google maps. As I exited the 405, I began to notice road closures and contacted the restaurant right away. They recommended that I take Olympic blvd which added 30 plus minutes to my arrival time. The person who I was speaking with mentioned to me that calls were made to everyone who had a reservation on Sunday to let them know in advance about the traffic. I did not receive a call nor an email so I asked to speak to a manager in which they connected me with Patricia. I was already stressed in losing 30-40 minutes of my reservation time and being stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on Olympic. I explained the situation to Patricia and instead of meeting my with empathy, I was met with snickers and the following remarks: "I am sorry that you didn't think to call ahead to confirm the traffic ahead of time" and "How did you not know about the LA marathon? It is a planned event and on the news everywhere." I did tell Patricia that I did not like feeling insulted with the snickers over the phone and she assured me that most people come in late and the best she can do is to try to accommodate us with 10 additional minutes past the two hours (this was after being on the phone for about 10-15 minutes with her trying to see what our options were. Everything was wonderful after we got seated, everyone was very welcoming and the pastries and sandwiches were delightful. As I was celebrating my friend's birthday, I wanted to put the bad to the side and continue with the great environment and food but I wanted to reach out regarding my experience prior to arrival which is a shame because as many of my friends who recommended this place for afternoon tea had nothing but great things to say, theres a "black cloud" hanging over my overall first experience with The living room. We enjoyed afternoon tea here last Saturday, and it was quite an experience, which I do recommend trying out. The ambiance was very nice, I loved the harpist, all the flowers, and basically the feel of being in a living room (as we were on a couch). The sandwiches and desserts were tasty, but I think where they really shone was the ambiance and the atmosphere. The service was excellent, our tea cups were never empty, and every one was really friendly. My husband and I did have plenty of leftovers, which we enjoyed the next day. I especially liked the chicken and egg sandwiches. They gave each of us our own Peninsula Cap Cake, which was great with coffee (ate it at home the next day). I would give maybe 3 stars for the food, 5 stars for the ambiance and service. The place was picture perfect. It was also the weekend before Valentine's Day so the theme was Valentine's (see pics). Also, we did find street parking close by, so we did not need to do valet parking. read more

I visited back in Fall 2019, so while this review is outdated, I remember the experience. If you asked me for a high-end afternoon tea recommendation, this place would be my first inclination. I took my sister here for her birthday in 2019 at $109 per person for afternoon tea; hotel valet was $17. I was pleased with the ambience, aesthetics, and service at this price point. A glass of champagne was included with the tea, strawberries & cream, and food. The opulently decorated tearoom was open and bright with natural light. We just so happened to book a time slot at the same time there was a harpist. She played her rendition of Christina Perri. Our server Edward was courteous and lovely. (And no, I'm not a Twilight fan!) The presentation and quality of the food was also elegant and refined, as if made by a French patisserie. Flavors were delicate; not bland, but nuanced. The bread for the sandwiches was sooo soft! We were extremely full, but we made a day trip out of the visit by exploring the hotel and eventually wandering upstairs to the rooftop bar. read more

Located at the Peninsula Beverly Hills, The Living Room was a very elegant and memorable place to celebrate my birthday. My friend and I had the Traditional Afternoon Tea for $125 each which included a selection of tea, and a glass of Laurent-Perrier Brut champagne. I chose the caramel pear tea and my friend chose the Tropical Peninsula tea. The sandwiches included house smoked salmon, English cucumber, egg salad, chicken salad, and charred zucchini with asparagus and tomato. The sweets included strawberries and cream, scones, cherry profiterole, chocolate apricot cake, peach mango tart, strawberry pistachio macaron, chocolate mousse, and Peninsula cap cake. The individual tower of scones, pastries, and sandwiches was very lovely and attractive. The dainty sandwiches were flavorful and tasty. The fresh baked scones were terrific . We saved out pastries to take home. There was a harpist serenading the room and who played Happy Birthday as our server presented me with the candle lit Peninsula cap cake. Daniel and the other servers were very nice and hospitable and kept our tea cups refilled often. Service was outstanding. Metered street parking was plentiful in front of the hotel and on the surrounding street. Afternoon Tea at The Living Room is highly recommended to celebrate a special occasion! read more
