This is a traditional Steakhouse in Bay Ridge and Fort Hamilton. When you really want a great steak, why do to Peter Luger? Chadwick has got it right from food, service, and ambience. Chadwick's steaks are so delicious that you forget the cholesterol. And they come small and large. Their fish or seafood is also sinfully delicious. Good steakhouses are expensive but Chadwick offers mid-week meal specials. We've never been on weekend nights but people seem to rave about this place. It's American meat for exclusive Italian clientele. Perhaps my only criticism is why the restaurant keeps it lighting on the dark side? It's unfortunate that I have to write this poor review, but it's just the truth of my experience. To start off, the ambiance and layout of the place is really cute, music playing, guys at the bar very nice, etc., however the rest of my experience wasn't as pleasant. I have a severe gluten allergy and many of the reviews stated that waiters were knowledgeable with gluten free, however mine was not. When ordering I was told to tell him what I wanted and then he would check if it was gluten free or not when placing the order - that's not really how I expect this to work when ordering gluten free, but understandably not everyone is as educated and considering it's not a "gluten free" restaurant I can't really get mad at that. So, We ordered the grilled eggplant skewers and they were good, nothing special but definitely good. Then comes the main issue- we originally came here to celebrate my fiancé's birthday with a nice steak and so when we ordered our main entree- the porterhouse for 2 l, we were quite excited, but that was short lived. We ordered it medium, and now, my fiancé eats some pretty red red steaks but this was literally RARE - it was almost purple and had the rare taste/texture to it that it honestly scarred me for life. Neither my fiancé or I were able to enjoy it being so rare. We didn't feel comfortable giving it back as we are not those type of people, but that really ruined it for us. Baked potato and side spinach were delicious but it didn't really matter after our steak was so messed up. To pay that price and not be able to enjoy at all isn't right. This isn't a diner and When ordering a steak a certain way at a steakhouse, I should get what I'm asking for. Desserts were so mediocre, nothing even stood out, decided to pass up on that one. Also, ordered a Diet Coke & got a regular Pepsi.. might not be a big deal to some, but as a type 1 diabetic that is a pretty damn big deal to me. Definitely a let down, wouldn't come back. read more

Disappointing Mother's Day because of Joe the waiter. First, my sister asked if she could have a plain old salad because she didn't/couldn't eat what was offered in the 52.00 per person menu (which I was not told about when I made the reservation, guess you are expected to know, but it wasn't the price it was also what was on the menu), anyway the waiter says to my sister, in a gruff manner, "there must be something you can eat on there", he was quite rude. He came over a total of two times in two hours with the same gruff manner and rude attitude. We noticed however that the patrons he knew at other tables he was super friendly to. We couldn't figure out why he was like that with us. My sister refused to leave him a tip and I left something but certainly not what we would normally leave which is always 25%. He really lost out. So after we paid, he comes over to me and says, is this all you left and the other one didn't leave anything? What he should have said was "was the service okay, is it something I did" but he didn't have a clue. On top of that, the food was not as good as it used to be. I have been here before and the service and food was quite enjoyable however my fiance and I went there for dinner last Friday night and it was awful and left a lasting bad memory in our minds. Our appetizers were delicious however the main course was as though they were prepared by a different chef. My finace ordered aT-bone steak medium well and the brought out a steak that was well done. He really knows his steak and brought it to the waiters' attention. When they presented the new one it was more or less the same. I had the cod filet. It was so rubbery that all they needed to do was stamp "Spalding" on it and bounce it off the wall. We left and took the steak entre with us and its still in the fridge at home. The bill was quite over $100. I am sad to say that we will not be returning. Also, the $12 Martini was ridiculous. I have dined at the finest of restaurants in NYC and paid less for a better Martini . Also the glass was chipped and the chair that he sat in needed to be replaced the table was rocking and the paint was coming off of the chair backs. Highly disappointed!!! read more

Chadwicks, an oldie, but still a goodie, (very!). Sometimes when a restaurant is around for a while, they can loose their edge. Not so with Chadwicks. The menu was just different enough to tickle your taste buds, and then when you took a bite..... your taste buds thanked you! The food was cooked to perfection, great flavors. And to round it our, our waiter was pleasant and engaging, and the owner came by to say Hi! Definitely make it one of your go to places, as it will not fail you. If you want crappy service, crappy wine selection and mediocre food this is your destination! I went for my anniversary with my in-laws. Two couples. Waitor had a little rush to order attitude. He did the old schpiel "Im putting my two kids through college". ok. I get it. We purchased a bottle of Super Tuscan wine for about $62 a bottle. We spilled it on our table. I know that's annoying. However, the waitor returned with another bottle after we quickly finished the first bottle saying to me "im buying you a glass of wine on me because you spilled some" then charged us for both bottles. We did drink it but never ordered it and never got comped one glass of wine for the spill. I just don't like a waitor saying he's buying you a glass then slips the other bottle on the check. They over sauce all the entreees. Never returning and neither should you. Same staff last twenty years. read more

Chadwick's such a disappointment !!! I was dining with my very dear friends and looking forward to sharing a fun holiday meal. While the company was enjoyable and I may add the waiter was extremely nice, the management of this facility was rude and seemed not to have the slightest idea on how to manage a holiday crowd. This evident by the slow service and the rush to get our party out of the restaurant. In fact, the manager came over and asked us to leave since he had another party waiting. I would say still clear of Chadwick's and head on down to Areo's, Ponte Vecchio or even Yellowhook where the service is good and they know how to treat their customers. read more

Me and my husband went to chadwicks just to dine in , we got there around 4:30 place was empty which i was happy about it because at least it wasn't overcrowded, as far as the food goes i got myself an organic chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli and my husband had a tbone steak, my meal definetly wasnt all there ,, there was lack of taste on chicken i felt like there was no seasoning on it at all, dish was just very simple and taste wasnt there at all and my husbands steak looked like it was pretty burned from outside but wasnt well cooked inside it should of been done perfectly medium rare but not even close. Waitress was very nice and caring cant complain about the service but i think it would of been nice to ask if we wanted any dessert which we were thinking about but since they didnt bother asking we didnt even order. For place that isnt cheap at all the food should taste at least good... after my first time experience I definetly wont be returning here i can spend that amount of money in much better restaurant. I never feel compelled to write a review but after tonight I've changed my mind. I have heard so many great things about Chadwick's and wanted to try it. We were a party of 6. Arrived timely, although we had a minor issue with the valet. We were seated and had a great server. However, the food took a little long(wouldn't have minded or even asked about it). They sent over complimentary salads which was nice of them. After the food arrived(overrated in my honest opinion), we were rushed through the meal. The server was spoken to for talking with us too long. We were rushed to order dessert and coffee. Again it took long, we weren't complaining. The creme brulle tasted like sweet scrambled eggs.... Not good. Shortly after we received the check and the manager (I guess) kept coming to check and see if we paid the bill. As we are getting ready to leave again he comes over to tell is he had another party waiting a half hour for us to leave and he was quite rude. He made it seem like he was doing us a favor. We left and waited outside for the valet for a few minutes and I went back in to ask where he was and reminded him we were rushed out and he rudely said he didn't rush us. Another man followed me outside to say we were only waiting for a few minutes and he was probably busy,oblivious to the rush job from the other guy. He sort of shrugged his poor service off. Not sure why so many Bay Ridge people love this place. I'd give less stars if possible. The only redeeming factor was the server who was warm and friendly. The food was mediocre at best. Next time it is Yellow Hook or Giacomo's far better customer service. read more

I have been to Chadwicks a few times to include yesterday for lunch. My husband raved about his martini and our meals were quite good. I had the burger and he had the reuben sandwich. We ate there last night and the food was great-had the seared scallops & short rib spring rolls for appys - fantastic, especially the scallops. My husband had the chicken, and I had the sea bass special-they were both great as well..the services was professional and friendly. Prices just a touch on the high side for Bay Ridge, but worth it. Two quibbles; our dinner took quite a while (in their defense, we were seated right after a party of 10), also, once the room we were in got nearly full the noise level was a bit much. We'd definitely go back, though. We hadn't been there in years, and I'm glad we went back this time. I kept the busboy busy-I'm a water guzzler, but he was right on top of it..a definite plus. PS - the toasted almond gelato was wonderful, as was the lemon sorbet. I thought I'd seen a bread pudding dessert on their online menu (I'm a bread pudding junkie), but it wasn't there last night - just as well-it probably would have been kind of heavy. read more

disappointing... took my dad and my gf emily for their bday and it was great not sure what happend.. the chowder was too salty, miso cod was too sweet and the duck was over cooked. i asked the waiter if they have panna cotta he seemed offended and asked me "whats that" maybe its my fault, i thought it was an italian restaurant. i think they turned off the heat or opened a window towards the end of our meal. i asked for decaf gree tea he gave me a regular gree tea bag. very disappointed since the last time was so much better. i'm trying to put this behind me. im not saying dont go maybe i had such high expectation and it failed miserably so it made me really sad :( read more

never really realized there were steakhouses in brooklyn. we were recommended here from a friend and i would say very good recommendation. my boyfriend, my aunt and i came here this past wednesday got there around 7pm. good amount of people there, but still were able to get a table. prices arent bad and the food we had was honestly really good. we had the grilled octopus over white beans and pan seared scallops over creamed sweet corn. wow. these apps were SO GOOD. everything was cooked PERFECTLY. i was so blown away. my aunt got the rib eye and me and boyfriend shared the porterhouse. took a star off because it said it was dry aged, and i did not taste the dry aged at all. and because we believe they mixed up our order. we asked for the ribeye to be medium but it was medium rare and we asked for the porterhouse to be medium rare and it was medium almost medium well in most places. besides that mishap everything else was solid. the food was good. the service was good. ambiance was nice and they constantly filled my water cup which i highly appreciate. i would come back. read more

This review is much more about the management at Chadwick's than the quality of their food which (on a group prix fixe menu) was fairly good at best. First --the valet parking (on a Saturday afternoon) is by request of the customer only, for a charge of $75/3hr period. Second - I made arrangements for a group lunch by phone & expected a pasta and a main entree- there was no clear indication that it was a choice of one or the other on the online menu. When I complained to the owner, he showed no interest in trying to resolve the situation amicably (does "the customer is always right" ring a bell?). I was browbeaten for even suggesting that he could make things right by adding something to the menu - his rude behavior was totally unprofessional. Even if they serve the best food in NY I would never return there. read more

My wife and I love a good steakhouse. Unfortunately, neither of us really felt as though Bay Ridge had a quality steakhouse until we started going to Chadwick's. Now we go as often as possible. My wife is absolutely in love with her filet mignon and onion jam. The onion rings they add on top adjacent to a few spears of asparagus really finish up a very well rounded dish. Absolutely, NOTHING beats their Beef Wellington!! The portion is positively enormous, and I finish it every time. The wellington is a special and usual available on Saturdays, so keep that in mind. I have tried many of their appetizers, but my favorite is their duck. Don't be fooled by the appearance and older crowd, the food speaks for itself and it keeps us coming back over and over again. read more

Went to Chadwick's for Thanksgiving dinner. Made the reservation for 8 over a month in advance, but due to last minute cancellations, showed up with only 5 people. They were very gracious about the last minute change and very accommodating with my 95 year old aunt in a wheelchair. They opened the door at the front corner of the dining room and wheeled her right up to the table. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Everyone was very pleasant and attentive. For example, I drink a ton of water and my glass was never less than half full before someone came to refill it. Overall, a great dining experience. read more

I went here today for a "first date" and we had an awesome time! 2 non meat eaters in a steak house does not sound like the best scenario (especially since her English is not so good) but it was one helluva good time! The staff was incredibly professional-our server picked up on the situation right away and put us in a corner table in the back so we could talk, and painstakingly walked us through the daily specials, made recommendations, cheerfully accepted substitutions and had the patience of a saint. Chadwick's is one of the very best restaurants in Bay Ridge for American food. The food is excellent starting with the crab meat cocktail or the excellent soups. The entrees are great: the filet mignon, the pork shank, or the delicious special Beef Wellington. Rounding out the menu are some excellent desserts (the Key Lime pie, and the apple cobbler are scrumptious). In addition, I have to mention that I have always found the service to be excellent. I didn't understand the bad reviews here that mentioned bad or rude staff. My husband and I have eaten at Chadwicks many, many times and all of the waiters (Brian, Joe, Salim, and Richie) were friendly and extremely efficient without being intrusive. My only wish here is that they took reservations for two people since there is somewhat of a wait time on a Saturday night but certainly, Chadwicks is worth waiting for - a great dining experience! read more

I am new to Chadwick's & would definitely return. Had some VERY fussy dinner guests w/me & everyone was pleased. Our table was ready right on time. Atmosphere was warm & welcoming. The staff was extremely attentive. House wines are usually a hit or miss proposition. In this case the house Merlot, served in a generous glass, was surprisingly good. Appetizer of seared scallops w/black truffle sauce was incredible. My hubby is a lobster ravioli fan & could barely contain himself his appetizer was sooo good. Steak main courses were done to perfection. Wild boar was on the menu nite we were there & my guests were not disappointed. It was excellent. I was disappointed in the duck w/blueberry sauce. The duck was made well. However, the sauce was bland & could have used some zip. Desserts were great. All the creme brule fans were beside themselves. The other night my friend and I wanted to go out for drinks and dinner to celebrate her birthday. We both decided on Chadwick's, considering we had been there before and had an amazing time. We didn't know it yet, but we would have the most amazing dining experience on a random Tuesday night. First we started with cocktails at the bar. Billy, the bartender, made our drinks to perfection (we had dirty martinis) and was very attentive. He is definitely the type of bartender that you could have conversation with for the entire night. At our leisure we decided to be seated for dinner. We had a couple sips left in our drinks, and before we could lift a finger, the owner, Steven, came over and carried our drinks to the table for us. We were slightly undecided on what to get as an appetizer, so the owner insisted on sending out the scallops for us while we decided. I am not personally a fan of scallops, and was slightly apprehensive about having them, but when they came out I was speechless. They were perfectly pan seared and paired with a sprout or green of sorts as well as mushrooms and a cheese. By the time we were done with that we had decided on the duck breast as an actual appetizer. It came out paired with a pomegranate reduction with goat cheese. The pairings at this restaurant are absolutely amazing, the combination of food in each dish is exquisite. Everything we ordered was prepared to perfection. Especially the steak we shared (I think it was the shell). It came with a beautiful side of roasted potatoes sliced thin, spinach, and crunchy onions. You would think that we would stop there, but of course we had to have dessert to celebrate my friends birthday. It also happened to be the owners birthday, and all of the waiters came over and sang. It was perfect. Might I add that at the end of our dinner the song Unforgettable happened to come on, it couldn't have been a more perfect time because this dinner was truly unforgettable. Aside from the food, the service was amazing. The servers were attentive, but not overbearing. Every time our napkins were placed on the table, they were immediately refolded. Between the different courses our silverware was replaced. We weren't rushed, but also we were not left with dirty dishes on the table for long periods of time. Water was filled when needed. The owner did an amazing job making recommendations, especially of dishes I would not normally order. He also, bought us a round of drinks as well as dessert. Between the impeccable service, the amazing food, and the comfortable atmosphere, I will definitely be frequenting this restaurant more often. There is absolutely no reason to go into the city when there are restaurants like Chadwick's right here in Bay Ridge. read more
