This Pakistani place was absolutely fantastic. We wanted to pop by for tea and some snacks around 7 but they had a two hour wait. Silly us for assuming New Brunswick would be dead and empty on a cold evening. Anyways, we put our name on the list, bar hopped for a couple of hours and got back. And my God, it was worth the wait. Their Tikka Boti was brilliantly flavored. Mutton was incredibly tender in their Karhai which paired really well with their Naans . And the finish with Biriyani was faultless. We have been to chai Chenak several times in the past and have tried their sandwiches, Karahi, bun kabab, chaats and more. The kardhai here are authentic and flavorful! The charsi and white are our family go to (white is more mild so kids love it). The garlic chicken roll was great but could have used some more garlic flavor/Mayo. The anda wala burger was excellent. The chai was flavorful and the falooda is heavy, but a must! The butter chicken (makhni) is always a fav for the kids and the dahi poori is a great starter. Always a pleasant experience. The ONLY thing I think is ridiculous about this place is that they don't offer regular water and charge about $2 for each tiny water bottle. They don't offer a pitcher of water either. Portions were adequate, and filling, Keema paratha was very well stuffed as I would have at home and Keema was precooked, so that made it great. Service was good, no complaints, full of Desi people, so it is a popular place, I would 100% recommend it to everyone. The tea is fragrant and had a really good taste to it, I'm Pakistani and was never really a tea drinker as a kid. Stopped here on a whim after a wedding the night before for some yummy chai. And it did not disappoint at all. The place looked poppin with a bunch of people waiting to be seated and that's how I knew this was a great deal! I was allowed to sit upstairs where there were lounges for families to sit and sip chai just like home. The decor is excellent, full of colors which I ultimately love about Pakistan's culture; and their food nonetheless. This is the closest I'll get to Pakistan for their street food. The only thing I liked about this place was the daal bun kabab(very close to home) the rest of th food was mediocre at best. The mayo garlic paratha rolls had no garlic mayo, the paratha were soggy and tasteless. Dhaka Chicken was not bad. The karhai was not worth it, as it's priced at 25-30$ and contains hardly 5-6 pieces of chicken. Not only that, it did not have the right flavor or spices. Food is mid, staff is extremely unprofessional and bias towards a certain group of people. I have tried almost every dish on their menu. The two stars are only there for a small selection of the dishes they do have that are good. Bun kabab was very soggy and not authentic. Laccha paratha is not tasty at all and very hard. One of the worst experiences, we have ever had. We entered the restaurant this morning at 1130 hours. There were only 2 tables where folks were seated. The entire restaurant was empty, and the upstairs was empty also We told the front server that we are from Washington DC, and came here for the first time. We went upstairs to see if there was anyone, there was literally not a single person seated as well. I said we are only two adults and two infants and will not take more than an hour for our meal, and your restaurant is empty please let us sit. He refused and said I can not let you sit because this is all reserved until 4 pm. This individual said my name is SHEHBAZ and I am the manager. This was incredibly disrespectful and rude considering the entire restaurant is empty and we would not take more than an hour to have our meal. Absolutely unbelievable despicable behavior and service from Mr. Shehbaz.
