The samosa was delicious as well, and I loved the dipping sauces that came with it. The café itself has really nice decor, but it's mostly for takeout. There are a few tables and chairs outside. None of them looked super fresh - maybe a couple of days old, but I went with the pistachio & chai cookie to try. Unfortunately my freshness judgement was correct and the cookie tasted stale and oily. It also had a faint pistachio flavour but no chai flavour which was disappointing. I'd go back to try the chai for sure but can't really recommend the pastries or food based on my experience!

During my last trip to Surrey, I made sure to stop by and fill up on caffeine and pastries. This location looks like an Apple Store from the outside with a modern glass exterior and minimalistic interior. From what my friends have told me, this location is much larger than their Downtown Vancouver location. Upon entering, the first thing I saw was Nemesis' vibrant colored boxes nicely lined up on a table next to the window for purchase in addition to merch (shirts, mugs, etc.) featuring their simplistic upside down blue heart logo. They switch out the coffee varieties on a regular basis, and so make sure to check their site first if you are looking for a certain bean! After perusing the merch, I made my way to the line and was captivated by the fancy high-end pastries in the glass counter. The company that makes the pastries is called Dope and they had everything from cookies to croissants to cakes and crullers. Prices were reasonable and I paid under $20 USD for four pastries. They had unique flavors including: strawberry & pistachio danish, tiramisu croissant, churro cruller, iced cap cruller, apple hojicha fritter, ube donut, and more. Like the Nemesis packaging, the Dope pastry boxes were art pieces on their own and probably the prettiest to-go boxes I've ever seen; they are a bright vibrant blue with their signature smile and tongue character logo and metallic writing. They literally look like designer shoe boxes. Nemesis features two seasonal drinks at a time, but they don't offer any flavored drinks otherwise and so if you're looking for a basic vanilla latte, this is not the place. The two seasonal drinks they were featuring in February were the Beet Root Latte and the Black Sesame Corn Latte (no coffee in this one though). Personally, neither quite appealed to me and so I just ordered a basic OAT MILK LATTE sweetened with simple syrup (you could alternatively get it sweetened with honey). The espresso was smooth and the oat milk was nice and creamy. To share with my family, I also ordered the... - APPLE HOJICHA FRITTER ($4.75 CAN) - as someone who doesn't normally like donuts, this fritter was the best fritter I've ever had and definitely on the not-to-sweet side. It was crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and full of apple pieces, apple spiced compote, and cinnamon. The hojicha dusting was subtle but added a nice slight earthiness to the pastry. I liked this pastry so much, I ended up ordering another one later on! - The ICED CAP CRULLER ($4.75 CAN) - this cruller was also fantastic and full of espresso flavor. The espresso cream filling and the condensed milk glaze were delicious and tasted like I was eating a Vietnamese coffee. 10/10 would get this again! - BROWN BUTTER BANANA CAKE ($5.75 CAN) - this cake was super moist and had a beautiful piping of cinnamon espresso buttercream on top. I'd say this one was the least unique of the pastries I ordered, but was a solid slice of banana bread and the buttercream was smooth and light. - CHOCOLATE ORANGE SUISSE ($7.50 CAN) - this pastry was the most interesting texture-wise as it has a crispy exterior that reminded me of chowmein noodles, wrapped around a croissant. The candied orange was very distinct and could be tasted in both the chocolate orange filling and the outside. While the most expensive of the pastries (probably because of the extra labor it takes for this one), I thoroughly enjoyed every bite and would order this one again too. The seating areas and bathrooms are clean. Service is excellent- we got our orders within 10 minutes after ordering and they come by to give you water and silverware as needed. TLDR, Nemesis is 1000% worth the stop and I can't wait to be back whenever I am in Surrey next. Overall, 5/5 for coffee and pastries, 5/5 for service, 5/5 for atmosphere

Quiet in the morning with most people having coffee to go. Service is great. They will bring your food and coffee to you when dining in which is unexpected. The flat white is ok, could do with more microfoam but it's good enough. The pastries are really nice. Get the croissant warm up for a better bite.

Dough texture was chewy and soft, outside was buttery, Feta and garlic dominate the flavor which was pretty good. I think from What I tried, their baking goods tend to have strong flavor. I was able to get a free street parking spot right out front on a Saturday afternoon. Lots of tables when I walked in with singles and pairs chatting or doing some quiet work on their laptop. Staff were friendly and I asked for a recommendation - they asked if I liked matcha (who doesnt!) and recommended something from their specials menu. I decided to go with the iced pistachio matcha with oat milk and after everything it was about $10. Not the cheapest, but I think its kind of the going price of matcha drinks these days. The drink took a while and I was just about to get a bit restless when another staff brought out the drink and I was a bit shocked. The drink was HUGE, probably double the size of what you'd get at any other matcha shop! The most unique thing about this drink was there was literally pistachio bits with every. single. sip. Most places only do the visual sprinkle of pistachio on top so you get maybe 1 or 2 sips with pistchio and that's it. Nok Nok serves up quality and every single sip I had of that large drink had pistchio crunchies. Delicious and I will definitely be back.

iced matcha latte with oat milk and a chance to win a whisked away to japan? okay, avik, you have…read moremy attention. stopped into avik a little after 3:00 pm on a tuesday, on my way to an appointment, and the place was packed. not exactly surprising given that this west broadway café has become known for its specialty coffee and tea, house made pastries, and all sorts of creative japanese inspired treats. it's a bright, modern space, and there's a lot going on once you start looking around. i went with the iced matcha latte with oat milk, and it was a solid matcha. smooth, nicely balanced, and definitely enough to satisfy the afternoon matcha craving. avik describes its matcha as a high grade tea offering, alongside hojicha, chai and london fog, so tea clearly gets more than an obligatory spot on the menu. then there's the pastry display. so. many. things. the strawberry matcha cookie immediately caught my eye, but then there was a mochi black sesame croissant and i was basically standing there thinking, wait, what?! the menu leans into those japanese flavours in some really fun ways, and there are enough interesting combinations to make a return visit feel very necessary. the strawberry matcha cookie, for example, combines matcha, dried strawberries, white chocolate and cream cheese. the ordering setup is also very much of the future is now variety. there's a huge tablet for self ordering, plus a sliding freezer case for chocolates and ice cream bars. because apparently a regular pastry case wasn't futuristic enough. and then there was the little bonus dangling in front of me: the chance to win a trip to japan through the whisked away to japan promotion, courtesy of paragon. considering how much i've been thinking about japan lately, that felt like a particularly well timed bit of temptation. i sure could use a trip to japan right about now. between the matcha, the creative pastries, the japanese inspired flavours and the very modern ordering setup, avik is a fun stop when the usual coffee and croissant routine needs a little shaking up. even on a packed tuesday afternoon, there was plenty to catch the eye and plenty of reasons to start planning the next visit.

I've also picked up a redbean butter salt bread here to share too. Tasty bread! Needless to say, redbean and butter are both definitely apparent; they really load it on, including maybe $2 worth in the butter slab itself. I've realized I'm not the target customer to order a STICK OF BUTTER with my breads. Big props for being so generous though, I'm sure the butter lovers would kill for it. With their popularity and coziness, they do unfortunately have a laptop time limit if you planned to do some work or studying here. I'd definitely want to come back for a chill catch-up with a friend and try their other salt breads :)

The Spanish latte was also nice. The Dubai strawberry is a MUST! So delicious which is probably why there is a limit to how many can be purchased.
