Fucking finally. There's like 8 mediocre Chinese restaurants in Plainfield and no Thai. And not only do we get Thai, we get fucking phenomenal Thai. I'm more excited than Jessie Spano on caffeine pills. I was so hungry I four coursed that shit. Appetizer: Thai Money Bags. Hells to the yeah. These are so freakin' good, wontons but with an adorable presentation. 5/5 Soup: Tom Kha. A sweet and spicy soup with coconut milk and large chopped veggies. 4/5 Salad: Yum Khai Dao. OMG. I've never had anything quite like this. It's literally fried egg on lettuce topped with veg and a killer dressing. My advice is not to screw around with a fork and just use the lettuce to eat it like a taco. 5/5 Main: Gaeng (Curry) Panang. This is my go-to dish when trying a new Thai place because it's both delicious and easy to screw up the balance. They knocked it out of the damn park. You can put it on the booooooard, YES! 5/5 My wife had the Pad Siew, which I would consider a "safe dish" and honestly kind of boring. Nothing boring about this entree. It was delicious and seasoned spectacularly. I ate everything put in front of me. That's a testament to both how delicious the food was but also the size of the portions. Wow. Wow! Booming with flavor!! Those in Plainfield can all agree that when it comes to restaurant in the area, most of the options lacks true flavor. By flavor, I am talking about food that is interesting; beyond Chinese food, Mexico food, Italian food, Bar Food. Chai Thai is something a foodie will really appreciate. The food consumed is on par with some of the best Thai food I have had. The menu options are fun and everything we tried from appetizers, to the main meal, to dessert was truly excellent. I hope that all of Plainfield and the surrounding area will give Chai Thai a visit, as it would be a shame if we lost this cultural gem. The best Thai I have been to in a very long time. Today was very busy due to Mothers day so we didnt get a reservation but we had the take out option so we decided to that. We ordered green curry, chai Thai rice, Tom yum soup, pad kee Mao and The Money Bag. We absolutely loved the food. The right portions, taste and the perfect amount of spice. The customer service on the phone and when we went to pick up the food was top notch. The restaurant itself was so clean, modern and welcoming. I cannot wait to go again and eat in. Yes, finally a decent Thai restaurant in the Naperville/Plainfield area. I've tried most in Naperville and they deserve to be in bad mall food courts. Chai Thai is actually very good comparable to what you can get in a metro city. We had the Chai Fried Rice, Graprow chicken and Pad Thai, our "test" dishes for Thai. All very tasty with fair size portions (and legit size shrimp/prawns). The service was very good and the decor quite nice. Lots of seating as well. They should be opening for lunch in May or June I hope. The only thing that may hurt them is the pricing is on the higher side for this area (e.g. $16 for shrimp pad thai, $13 for chicken main dishes). That said, I'm still confident/hopeful enough people go here because the food is pretty dang good! read more

I don't know what happened to this place. Last year this was one of the best Thai places around. I think it's under new management or ownership. If you are concerned about COVID19 DON'T EAT HERE. The owner does not require ANY of his staff to wear masks when handing food. When I confronted him, he said, "I don't require my staff to wear masks unless they are in the floor dealing with customers." There were no customers so I cannot speak to this. As he spoke 6 employees were handling food without masks. I saw people touching their faces and body parts and then touching noodles and vegetables without even washing their hands. When I mentioned this he made no concessions and got rude. When I got home I refused to eat the food but my husband decided to microwave it first for safety. He said, unfortunately, it was some of the worst Thai food he'd ever eaten and threw it out. If the owner is reading this, I want you to know that this is the first negative review I have ever written, for anyone, anywhere. Congrats. I feel completely ripped off of my $45 and regret not walking out without paying. read more

We loved the vegan and gluten free options here. My dish was supposed to have pea pods and there was not one. But it was so good, I hardly missed them. Very good food and service. 5 stars. However, the wine at $10 a half glass was ridiculous and will be our last. The seating was highly uncomfortable for our 50-something bodies. The pillow helped somewhat (bench only), but was so thick that the table was in my lap. Go for the food, but realize you won't be comfortable. The atmosphere was nice, the times they are open I find a bit strange only 4pm to 9pm. I understand if they aren't busy during the day but still their hours are a bit limiting, lunch would be potential business I think. The location is odd, I felt we were going the wrong way because it's right off the road after you've past many fields. I like that the kitchen isn't hidden, I get to watch them cook. The host was kind, we were always attended to and asked if we needed anything. The menu was fine. Prices for Thai food is as expected. They had typical Thai dishes I was a bit intrigued by som Tom with added grilled pork, which a friend ordered. I didn't taste but it looked good. Serving sizes for dinner were plenty. I got pad Thai chicken I enjoyed my dish, tasty. I asked for side of spice and got 4 different peppers to choose from which was nice. My friend got pad Saew which was good. My husband got the red curry which I just thought it was ok, it felt bland. I wish they had more of a beef selection, I didn't want to buy the steak and sticky rice for $19, seemed a bit overpriced when I saw someone at a different table order it. I used to love this place. While the food is still delicious, they clearly aren't following COVID procedures. Out of 3 chefs, only one was wearing a mask. The two women at reception weren't wearing a mask either. One of them was wearing an eye shield but what's the point in that?! This is incredibly reckless behavior, especially when knowing that the cases in Will County are on the rise. There was a couple dining inside as well, and while I do understand that many restaurants are going to defy the governor's orders for the sake of survival, what is their excuse for not wearing masks? I will no longer dine here or order from here and will be letting people I know who dine here know that this restaurant's practices are very unsafe. This was one of our favorite local restaurants until tonight. I read many reviews complaining about prices and wait time. Neither of those were ever a concern of ours as we felt the food and experience was well worth it. That all changed tonight... Tonight, We were 100% disguised and shocked to see both of our servers not wearing masks. Why? How? Not only is it the right thing to do... it's the LAW! We will not return, we will no longer recommend, and will inform others of their unsafe behavior we experienced tonight. It is very unfortunate that tonight changed our perception of this business entirely. What a shame! I've been here three times and the food is always fresh and delicious. It's so nice to have a Thai place nearby that is so consistently good. Most things on the menu can be easily customized to your level of spice comfort and can be made vegan. It's so well-appointed inside - the decor is really inviting and I can't wait to be able dine in again! If you're bored of the same standard carry out, I highly recommend trying this place! The food was pretty well done overall. The Chicken Pad Thai was somewhat bland and the dumplings were a bit overdone, but the Chicken Chai Thai Fried Rice and Beef Pad Kee Mao were very well done. The Pad Kee Mao had the classic flavor you expect. I should have gone with the Spicy version as the step under could have used a bit more heat. All told, the meal was enjoyed by all. One concern is the pricing, the same order at comparable local Thai restaurants costs considerably less. In the case of the nearest comp, it is almost double the cost as it is here for same or better quality. I hope for some refined pricing and a long stay at this location. Cheers! read more

I've been here three times since they opened. The food is mediocre. The Pad Thai sauce is watery and bland the last two times I had it. The money bag appetizer is bland and dry. My husband had the crying tiger/steak and he was crying because he had to attempt to finish eating it. The steak was rubbery. Super fresh, delicious Thai food! The dishes are made to order with savory or spicy sauces and are always piping hot when we get take-out. Many of the dishes are medium-spicy so be mindful of this is you can't tolerate much heat. The quality of the proteins are excellent. We love the chicken dishes but have also tried the steak and the seafood dishes. As some other reviewers have pointed out, the Pad Kee Mao and Talay Fire dishes are knockouts. The Tom Yum soup is addictive! Can only say good things about this place. It's off the beaten path but once you have tried it, you'll realize it's worth the trip.
