It bums me out to write this review for a few different reasons. The first being that Chain Reaction is closed and that sucks. The second being that I only made it out to this place once since I only lived in the area for a brief time before it's closing. Growing up on the East Coast I always remember seeing Chain Reaction listed on upcoming tours and when I moved out to LA the venue cut down on hardcore shows and started primarily having metal shows that I didn't really care enough to travel to Anaheim for. In early November I saw that King 810 were playing here so I jumped on the opportunity to come and check this legendary venue out. Now, this venue does have a small parking lot and I got lucky snagging a spot up front even though I showed up fairly late. The venue itself looks absolutely insane. The walls here were packed with t-shirts from bands who played here in the past and it was a truly unique look. I'll be honest, when King 810 took the stage the sound wasn't the best and they had some mic problems but who knows if that was the venue or just the band setup, so I'm just going to ignore that all together. Overall, I'm glad I got to at least check out Chain Reaction once before it's closure. I'm super bummed I missed out on tickets to the final shows here, but at least I got here. Parent perspective: I'm not sure what this place is like the rest of the week, but on Sundays they host an event where local high school bands get to play, and I've been twice now for that. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small strip-mall venue tucked into the corner - little stage inside, a few spots to sit outside, and basically standing room only once you walk in (there's one small bench if you get lucky).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's also a small wall you can stand behind if the kids start getting a little rowdy with their teen energy, which is kind of the unofficial parent safe zone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sound-wise: bring earplugs if you're a parent. It gets loud in there - drums, guitars, and teenage enthusiasm will do that.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They've got beers (mostly cans) and sodas, with beer prices running about $7-$9. I didn't really see any real food options, maybe just chips or small snacks, so eat before you come if you're planning to hang out for a while. Cover was about $12 to get in, and there are no in-and-out privileges. There's a sign that says "no moshing," which they seem mostly serious about, but they're a bit lenient when the kids get excited as long as it doesn't get out of hand. Overall, it's a decent little venue doing something cool for the community. I'm just glad they give these kids a real stage and a crowd. Honestly, it had been quite some time since i had been here, much longer than i will admit, but nice to come back for a decent show. Things were a little wonky on the sound and that's mostly why i go see live shows, to hear decent live music[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. To be honest the staff and security were all nice. My wife had a sick and she was pleased. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Had a decent for space and venue size, just maybe not my cup of tea, although I didn't quite remember the inside like that[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]All in all a descent place to see a show.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm not sure i would go again, but it wasn't that bad either. On one hand on the mediocre side, but again since the staff was nice. I would likely go again to see a band i like. I've been here for concerts in the early 2000's and remember it being a hole in the wall and felt like it was so far away. Later on in life I'd drive by this place every day and see it during the day time and it would look like a dive bar from the outside. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What sets this venue apart from many is the small space, the location and the amount of bands that came through here that got there start here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's one of the great venues that will always be remembered.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I feel like it's up there with the Showcase theater in Corona as far as legendary status and hopefully someone does a documentary on this venue and releases it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] First concert here was the Slackers November 22, 2002. Someone else posted this online and I 1000% agree, that big things happen in small rooms. Don't have a lot to say about this place, except this was my first time here. Other people I know say they have seen tons of punk shows at this Anaheim venue, located in an industrial strip mall. Parking was easy for the metal show I went to of local bands, including one of my favorite new local thrash bands - Evisceration (check them out on Instagram at eviscerationbandofficial), though I have read in other reviews that the parking lot on some nights can get full and that finding parking outside the lot in this area is actually difficult. I can't speak to that as there was plenty of parking for this show the entire night. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small, dark venue with a small bar which I think only sells a few beer cans and maybe sodas and baggies of chips.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All the staff I interacted with were very friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The sound guy did a great job, and the bands all sounded great.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would definitely go back to see bands there again! And, I would say it's a great place for any local bands to try and play. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The crowd was fun and friendly, though no moshing, slamming, or stage diving allowed. Stopped by here yesterday with my wife! Was the very last time we'll be going to Chain.. We both grew up in Anaheim. Gauer, BJHS, Dale, Magnolia, Savanna. We've always been local and have always enjoyed the sight of Chain and even attending shows there! My wife has seen countless shows there, from a pre-teen to her late 20's. I've only been here twice to see my old co-worker "JMACK" perform his first live shows there! This place is an OC/Anaheim staple. And we're beyond sad that it's time is up. If you live around this area or even if you don't I'm sure you have heard if this iconic venue. I have been coming here since I was a teenager and no matter what this will always hold a special place in my heart. Parking can be found in this small lot or on the street. You may get lucky and find parking at another close by business but its never recommended as there are saying you will get towed but hey if you buy some pre game snacks your a customer and entitled to park there right ;)? [[HIGHLIGHT]]Now this venue is super tiny and once the show starts it gets super hot. I guess that's part of the charm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is one long bench on the side of the wall that maybe can hold 10/15 people max and that's it the rest is standing only.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Since its so small there is no bad spot in the venue.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]You can step out on the side of the venue and that is the smoking area. This is also a good place to get some air if its way to hot inside for you.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Back when I first started going they did not serve any alcohol but in the last few years they started selling some. I have seen so many up and coming bands here that are now huge and do massive venues. They started doing tons of shows again after having a scare of possibly shutting down during Covid. I've known about Chain Reaction for years and years, but never made my out there for whatever reason. So when HC legends Earth Crisis were making it out this way I knew I had to be there. Located at the end of a strip mall off Lincoln, Chain Reaction is definitely a place you might miss if you didn't know where it was. I'll echo everyone's complaint about the parking. Chain Reaction shares the lot with other businesses so yes, it stinks. But if you find a spot, there's no cost. They also encourage you NOT to park at the Target (about a block away). Security was very chill. They were just checking bags. The space inside is very small. 240 capacity from what I understand. There's a bar straight in where they sell drinks both alcoholic & nonalcoholic and snacks. The small setting makes for an incredible concert. Bring earplugs though, because it's VERY loud in there. Even the music playing over the PA was set to 10. Even though this show was long sold out, they didn't over sell it. There was room to roam and we weren't packed in there like sardines. Thank you! Needless to say, Chain Reaction will be added to our rotation. This is a really great place to see a show and they book the type of bands the kiddo and I like. But sometimes you'll get surprises from more mainstream acts (Plain White T's in Jan 2024) so keep checking their schedule. Awesome venue. Highly recommended! read more

I brought my 86-year-old dad here to see our cousins Henri and Bill (named after my dad) perform in Starcrawler. Based purely on the Yelp photos, I was worried that this place was a total dump. Actually, I didn't really care that it was a dump, but I was concerned that my dad wouldn't be able to stand for the entirety of any of the three bands' sets, so we got here early so that I could ask about a chair or a stool. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When we came inside, I was relieved to see that there's an entire bench along the wall that is reserved for people with disabilities.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Strangely, there were a lot of other old-timers already sitting when we came inside, but my dad snagged the best seat at the very end (closest to the counter)--at least, that's the seat with the best view. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place really is a dump, but it's a remarkably clean dump.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I didn't use the restrooms, so I can't comment on them but the floor and parts of the walls not covered by band T-shirts and the rails and the counter and basically any other surface weren't disgusting like I expected them to be. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was the strangest crowd I've ever seen. As an all-ages venue, I didn't think there'd be any alcohol at all, but there was.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And I got so sentimental when I saw that the non-alcoholic-drinks menu was labeled "STRAIGHT EDGE." (Honestly, you don't know how excited that made this old teetotaler. X for life!) [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vast majority of the crowd were teenagers and people in their early twenties, but there also were a bunch of people in their fifties, sixties, seventies, and my dad.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Backbone was OK. One of their songs sounded like a Nirvana outtake. Twelve Gauge Trixie was very high energy; and what they lacked in musical skill and group continuity,they definitely made up for in anger, charisma, and stage presence. Starcrawler absolutely killed it, but why would you believe me? I'm related to two-fifths of the band. According to signs on the wall, there's no moshing or crowd-surfing allowed, although both happened. I was actually quite surprised when the moshing broke out during Starcrawler's set, as there hadn't been any during the first two bands', and even though I know where the mosh pit always ends up, I was standing there because it was strangely empty. Well, I didn't get hurt, just shoved three times too many before I could safely back out of there. The tickets are cheap. And they're real, physical tickets! I don't like that the surcharges make is so that pre-buying your tickets online makes them more expensive than buying them in person at the show, but there is the possibility of a sellout, so I'm not really complaining about those four bucks per. They don't have a whole lot of variety in terms of drinks and snacks, but they charge remarkably little for both, especially given that there are no ins-and-outs. They also helpfully sell earplugs for $1 if you forgot yours (and you'll need them). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The stage's location is very weird, and it's a tiny stage. Because there wasn't room for three drum sets and sets of amps, all three bands used Starcrawler's drums and amps.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've never seen that before. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's a handy half-wall between where you enter and the stage, so people can be standing in both areas and still see the show. It makes the space bigger without taking away from its intimacy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Despite its strange cohorts, the crowd was very well mannered, especially for a show like this at a dump like this.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Other than a couple of drunk and/or high people who were trying to annoy people with their moshing, everyone was very polite.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]At two points in the middle of songs, girls fell, and everyone around them immediately stopped and picked them up. Also, someone dropped his phone, and the people around him formed a little barrier so that he could bend down to pick it up without getting knocked over.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In between sets, women were sitting on the half-wall, but right when the music started, they got down so that everyone could see. A cool place to check out small bands! PARKING - I recommend coming at least 45 mins early before doors open, to snag a parking spot as parking is VERY LIMITED here. If you're unable to get a parking space in front of the venue, you can try to park at Target's parking lot... (FYI - park at your own risk, ppl at the venue said your car MIGHT get towed after a certain time of you park at Target's parking lot - after 10:30pm or much later). Otherwise, good luck finding a place to park, there are many parking restrictions near the venue saying you cannot park there or you WILL GET TOWED. I did see a tow truck driving near the venue after the show was over. VENUE - The space is very small, as it's one floor. The wall decor is pretty sick, there's tees hung up on the walls. The sound is VERY LOUD once bands start playing so I'd recommend to wear earplugs to prevent hearing loss ( especially if you're up close to the stage). There are restrooms in the back with the doors open, I'd say they weren't the cleanest.. Also, if you decide to leave the venue and come back, you'll have to pay again at the door. MERCH - The booths are located in the back right next to the restrooms. It can get very crowded in the corner. BAR - Before you enter the venue, they'll ask if you plan to drink. If so, they'll give you a wristband to indicate you can purchase drinks at the bar. I didn't drink the night I came but there is hardly any seating, you'll most likely drink while standing. read more

Growing up in SoCal Chain Reaction was one of THE spots for metal, punk, and emo music. The history is rich there with countless of classic bands playing there. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The wall to the left of the stage is covered with shirts by bands who have played there before.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ONLY reason I'm not giving it a perfect score is I've never managed to get past how the acoustics sound for the venue. There's almost a sort of muffled sound quality to the music when bands are playing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The parking is scarce because of how small the venue's parking lot is but I don't see that as a problem because I usually just park at Denny's right around the corner. read more

Super sick venue! Super clean restrooms which is very surprising but much appreciated. Pretty easy to navigate from the stage area to the bar. There are outdoor areas to smoke in between sets too. The wall of t shirts are also a super sick feature of this spot. Overall highly recommend seeing your favorite band here. Had a great time here on a Friday night seeing Charly Bliss. Doors opened at 7 and the guy at the door scans your ticket and checks your bag if you have one. There's a small stage, bar area selling beer, soda and chips. I think the sell wine too. Behind the bar is a small area where the merch table is setup. Past that area is the tiny bathroom area with only 2 stalls. One door doesn't lock, and the other stall has a toilet that only flushes when it feels like it, so pick your poison I guess. The stall that has a locking door literally reeked of pee when I walked in. There's also a weird mysterious hole in the floor of that stall.. like something a snake can slither out of. I would give it a 3.5 rating but that option isn't available. I would definitely come here again since I like small venues with FREE parking. Hopefully they have a full bar and fix their toilet by then. Those are the only two drawbacks about this place in my opinion. Tip: there's a buttload of fast food joints down the street from this place if you need to grab a quick bite on the way to the venue. I stopped at the Jollibee myself. read more

From Wikipedia: Frisson, also known as aesthetic chills or musical chills is a psychophysiological response to rewarding auditory and/or visual stimuli that often induces a pleasurable or otherwise positively-valenced affective state and transient paresthesia (skin tingling or chills), sometimes along with piloerection (goose bumps) and mydriasis (pupil dilation). When I was a teenager, I heard about a placed called "Public Storage" where a small touring punk band I liked was going to play in Anaheim. I decided to go and this was my first interaction with what has since become the Chain Reaction. I guess the real Public Storage came knocking one day when they heard about their name being used here and they forced them to change it to something else and thus it became the Chain Reaction. As many others have noted, it's a really intimate place, where you don't have a choice but to be up close to the performers. From what I recall, back then the acoustics were great and the sounds caused me to have frisson numerous times. I'm guessing the sound system has improved even more since then. I was able to see so many of my favorite bands here, ranging from Kid Dynamite and Anti-Flag to Discount and Alkaline Trio among scores of others. I actually interviewed three of the aforementioned bands for my obscure and obsolete zine after those shows, so thanks Chain Reaction! I was also at the infamous Dashboard Confessional show here, which was SO GOOD. I always felt safe here and it was an awesome place to hang out with friends and strangers (some of whom would become friends later). I loved that it was an all ages venue and continues to be. Shows back then were also really affordable. I don't think I ever paid more than fifteen dollars, and that was only a couple of times. Most times it was closer to five bucks. I'm sure the prices have gone up by now, but it's still probably a lot cheaper than larger venues that tack on huge fees. And although it's been more than a decade since I've been back, I still hold on to the many memories I made here that left me in in a temporary frisson. read more

First time being here great place for upcoming hardcore bands to build a following and here was the experience Parking : depending on if you're arriving to see a band you may want to show up and park 30+ minutes or so before your band goes on and you will find a spot If your desired band is headlining then you need to show up at least by 7-7:30 if not you will need to park somewhere near by Entrance: you will need to show your ticket to get in so the guard at the front can scan it. There is a "NO RE ENTRY" policy meaning, once you go in and you walk out the entrance you are not allowed back in and if the security gets offended by you they all will make sure you do not get back in. Although if you are with the band you will be given a wrist band and that will allow you to walk in and out with no problem . Drinks : are just drinks from bulk stores and are at premium prices ($8 a beer) , can't complain about that it's a business in the LA county trying to survive Overall the sound could've been better in my opinion there isn't really an excuse considering the venue has a digital board so depending on where you stand you will or will not hear the vocals or guitars. If the RE Entry issue was removed I would give a full 5 stars but then again this is a business and I'm assuming it's a liability issue as to the no re entry read more

Went to a concert at Chain Reaction last night and had a great time. Good venue, with great sound. Plus it's clean too! Not much parking, and no food served, but they have a small selection of snack bar type items, and a limited beer selection. A really cool gem for punk/rock and entertainment in Orange Country. Really great sound, cool ambiance, and has a good drink selection for 21+. It's one of the classic music hubs in Southern California. From old cats to new..... It's super safe for teens to come and hang out. Now that they serve alcohol, I feel like it's diverse in its clientele. I recently saw the Obsessed here, and since it's an intimate venue, I met Wino and his bandmates. I would never have that experience at a more massive concert hall. I also had a situation that needed the assistance of the owner, Kevin. Everything worked out, but I have to say that I never experienced such professionalism and kindness as I did from Kevin. Kevin is the most helpful person. I really enjoy the way he handles his business and his costumers. I always have a great time at CR, but after meeting Kevin and experiencing his hospitality, I am very grateful for this place to be around. read more

There is nothing better than live music! I have so much respect for people who learn instruments and are willing to pursue their dreams. The Chain Reaction is a typical "pay to play" venue for start up bands. They have to sell a certain number of tickets just to play that night. The owners have decorated the walls with hundreds of old concert t-shirts and stickers. Definitely a trip down memory lane! One of our employees was trying to play the other night and it was heartbreaking that they still needed to sell a few more tickets in order to perform. We felt like rich benefactors buying their last few tickets. I mean we didn't come down to NOT see them play, for Pete's sake. It was Metal - it was loud - it was awesome! read more

If 3.5/5 were an option, it'd be just that! I like the idea of an all ages venue, but, unfortunately the crowd this place attracts is just plain rude! A lot of under 18 kids go to the shows here, yet the teens/young adults ruin it by trying to fight everyone. Lol It is definitely an experience. Fun idea, but they should have better security, if there even is security (not sure!) I used to go to Chain Reaction as a teen when I was really into Punk music, but stopped going after a boy wanted to fight me. Still a decent venue, absolutely prefer The Observatory OC though. read more
