The sides didn't rescue the meal. The cornbread was dry, the mac and cheese was mediocre, and the atmosphere felt lifeless during our visit. The meat should have been the star of the show; instead, it was the biggest letdown. The staff, however, were wonderful--warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. They deserve credit, and the service was easily the best part of the experience. This wasn't an inedible meal. It was an underwhelming one from a restaurant I used to enthusiastically recommend. I understand that I came close to closing time, but I still paid full price and should receive the same quality of food as any other customer. If the brisket is past its best or there isn't enough left to make a proper order, I'd rather be told that so I can order something else.
