My mom used to bring me to this place all the time when I was little. We always had the Brisket Baker. As an adult, I wanted to go back since it's been years since I last came. I ordered the Brisket Baker and it was just as good as I remembered. It's a huge baked potato stuffed with cheese, sour cream, chives, and brisket. I could only finish half of it, while my hungry boyfriend ate the entire thing! It's definitely big enough to share with two people who have smaller appetites as it was a huge portion!! Definitely worth the price!! I've never tried anything else other than the baked potatoes and I don't think I will ever try anything else because I truly enjoyed their Brisket Baker!!! Service was quick and it was easy to place an order. You walk in and go to the register to place an order and have a seat where ever you'd like while you wait for your meal. The restaurant was empty on Saturday afternoon around 3pm. We were the only guests for a couple of minutes until a family walked in. The restaurant has a little bar area that has pickles, onions, and jalapeños, we passed on that just because they were low and they didn't look too fresh. I have been eating at old history inn in meyer land for years. It's one of my favorite spots. I just went into the old hickory inn on highway six, not far from sugarland. The restaurant was slow.There was only about 5 customers in the restaurant on a friday night. I walked in and I stood at the counter for close to fifteen minutes.While the guy behind the counter and some other guy talked in spanish. There was no food being ordered.They were just talking.I was staring at the guy directly and he saw me.But did not even acknowledge, I was there. One of the ladies finally said, come down to this end.And I'll take your order. I apologize, but I do not speak spanish. I asked her why I had to wait there so long and she said she was sorry and I asked her if I speak spanish well, I get better service here? And she said, no sir But that's not what I saw. I felt absolutely discriminated against in your restaurant.Because I did not speak spanish.And I was not part of their clique.... There's no way they should have left me waiting. Kids chicken strips cooked in old grease- all the black specs look like it could be seasoning but in actuality it was not. Throwing it straight into Styrofoam made it burn holes and made everything be greasy in the bag. My son could stomach eating the potatoes. My baked potato did not have real bacon bits that they advertise. The meat seems like the kind you heat in the microwave. Nothing about it struck me as fresh. There were very few green onions and the meat was thinly spread across the top to look like the extra meat I paid for. I'm sure I wouldn't feel comfortable ordering again. Ordering at the drive through could most definitely use improvement, the young woman who's at the window was very sweet but the ones who take your orders had me questioning why I came initially before I got to the window. Anyways, I ordered the loaded baker with sour cream on the side and also peach cobbler. The potato was good but doesn't compare to others I've had, lack of sauce just felt like I was eating a plain potato after the few drops of bbq my order received were gone. The peach cobbler was one of THE worst I've ever had. I couldn't do more than two bites, it was literally undercooked, the "crust" melted right in my mouth and overall just horrible flavor peaches are most definitely canned they had a dusty scent to them. Green bean were from a can and there is nothing wrong with that. Just add your own touch of flavorings. The macaroni was on the too soft side for me, but is a good option. Since COVID19 , I have noticed much thinner ribs and the chef salads are abysmal! The lettuce is fresh, but the stingy portions of tomatoes and the meat is not worth the money they charge! Don't bother looking for cucumbers, onions, generous portions of shredded cheese because you won't find any in their chef salad. In addition, they didn't provide croutons or crackers which is something they use to do back in the day.It's as if I have to play I Spy while searching for meat in my salad. Pappas BBQ charges just $2 more than this place and includes three bountiful portions of meat. Worst chopped beef potato I have ever had. Potato was undercooked in the inside and burned on the outside. I didn't want the pre-prepared chopped beef, it looked very unappetizing, so I requested fresh brisket. When I got home I found maybe 1 slice of minced brisket. I spent $30 for 2 potatoes, I was totally ripped off. This BBQ restaurant has been at this location for many years. I don't know how they manage to remain open serving this awful food. I was craving Barbecue and have been here before and enjoyed the food even though it's a bit pricey. I ordered a chopped beef baked potato and a sliced beef po boy. I received my food decently fast and went home and that's when I discovered that I was missing my po boy in the bag. I called the restaurant and spoke with an employee who immediately remembered the order and apologized and took down my name and number and offered to replace and give me a fresh po boy to make up for them not giving my complete order. I went back about an hour later even though it is fairly close and picked up the sandwich and was even given a free drink as compensation. I'm leaving a 5 star review because, 1 the food truly is great and tasty but also 2 the customer service is great. I will also say this is why you should treat your server nice and not yell or belittle them for a mix up. If you can calmly explain the problem, more often than not both parties can come to a satisfactory solution. I will still come back and order from this establishment again. read more

Usually very good brisket sandwhiches, sometimes lousy. I have had mushy stale bread and undercooked meat before, but overall it's very good brisket, plain bread, and thin tasting barbecue sauce. You get a little bag of pickles and onions, per tradition, with your meal. The potato salad is good, but I am not picky when it comes to said item. We always use the drive-thru, so I can't comment on the inside.
