It was like a tourisy bbq spot because they had like a tiny little gift shop like spot where you can buy trinkets or souvenirs. They have sandwiches and tacos. The best thing there is probably the brisket though. It's moist and fatty and easy to eat. The ends weren't hard, charred, or chewy. I don't think there was like seasoning or flavor was heavy but the quality of the meat was delicious. The sides weren't the best or even best selection. Just the basic corn bread, steamed okra, green beans, and a few others. They had like garnishes at the condiment bar. They have sauces like coffee bbq, hot sauce, habernaro, and bbq sauce.. the bbq sauce is the best. The coffee bbq sauce literally taste like espresso and was weird. Came here for the first time after church because my stomach was growling for food. My husband suggested that we try this spot since he's been here before. So I considered it. I'm not much of a pork person. But I did give it a try and it was ok. Not the best, the turkey was really good! The Mac n cheese was giving too creamy then thickness. The Jambalaya was probably the best part to be honest. The service seemed a little dull. Maybe because they just had a rush hour. I love Texas BBQ so I've been to all the Austin, Dallas, and Houston spots especially on Texas Monthly. Brisket was dry, chicken was brined for a little too long and gave a tire texture. Potato salad was too wet, too fatty, and didn't provide the acidity to contrast the fat. The sausage was decent, I give 4/5 stars. It was thick, juicy, and was similar to other places such as Truth, Corkscrew, Terry Black's, etc. The elotes was also too acidic for my liking and the cheese on top didn't mix well with the dish. I finally got a chance to check out The Pit Room for a business lunch and was not disappointed. There's a healthy line around the lunch rush, but it's not as bad as Truth or Pinkerton's, etc. and it moved along fairly quickly. I really appreciated that their menu had plenty of offerings outside the 1 meat, 2 meat, 3 meat combo orders. You could get sandwiches, tacos, large group orders for various headcounts, frito pies, chili, desserts, breakfast tacos, and even a salad for that very lost vegan who walked in off the street. The interior is huge with plenty of seating options. They have a main room where the counter service is, along with a much larger back room. You'll find a table. The brisket and beef rib were good, the turkey was flavorless, and the beef sausage does not reach the bar when compared to others. The quality, serving size I'm not sure it justifies the price. But let me clarify ...BBQ is really a matter of personal preference, we have been to the top tier joints in Texas and my experience and opinion is that very few can excel in all areas beef, pork, chicken, turkey, sausage and most are strong in only one. It's a nice place they have an inside area, a bar inside with also a dessert ordering area (ice cream) and then they have an outdoor patio and turf area for kids to be on with another bar outback. We each got the brisket and chorizo. I liked that it came with hot sauce and pico on the side, we also asked for the refried beans on the side rather than on the taco. The place is clean. Lovely entrance, nicely decorated & a good bit of room inside. I went with the chorizo, egg & cheese as well as the brisket, egg & cheese tacos. The chorizo taco was fantastic. Nice savory bite to it. Great tortillas. The eggs were from the line but were perfectly cooked. Paired it with the red sauce. Just a really really good combination. Seriously The brisket, egg & cheese was good. I felt like it was more of a brisket with sauce like you would get with a chopped brisket sandwich, more sweet than savory. Tried the green sauce here but it wasn't paired well with the sweetness of the brisket. Same great tortilla & perfectly mass cooked eggs. Great taco but more sweet than I would have preferred. Fountain drink machine was dialed in. My Coke was nice and crispy. The people were nice, food was good & the restaurant was nicely decorated as well as clean. 5 stars from me. This place is crowded most of the time, due good reason. The meat is tender and juicy and the sides are pretty consistent. The ribs brisket and sausage are the stars for me. I always enjoy bbq green beans with true perfect char. The elote was creamy and seasoned just right. It's a great portion and the price is great considering there will be left overs in my case, the rustic vibe indoors and outdoors. The patio is massive and great for larger groups. So it was my besties birthday and we wanted some good BBQ and heard this place had it. And so we drove the 18 miles to try it. We are so glad we did! As with most BBQ places it's served cafeteria style, go down the line and pick what you want, you could literally see the juices flow out of the brisket as he was cutting it (begin drooling here) you have a choice of dry or wet. I ordered the one meat plate with the wet brisket since I couldn't get the ribs I wanted, as they only serve those by the pound at just under $35 (that'll be a separate trip) and double Mac n Cheese ( had it from a reliable source, a 4 year old as we were coming in the door that it was "the bomb!) that little man knew what he was talking about! They even had my favorite Mexican Coke and the good tiny ice! The brisket was so juicy and tender it was falling apart just looking at it. And wasn't over seasoned like most places do to a point that you can't even taste the meat, it had its natural flavor enhanced with a bit of salt and possibly hickory. I honestly haven't had brisket that good EVER and I'm really old AND from Texas to be saying that, so you know it's good! Now let's talk about that Mac n Cheese... it was a thick oooyee gooey cheesy, mouthful of heaven with every bite and made me real glad I got two orders of it. The restaurant is deceptively large, a bit like the "Tardis" bigger on the inside! They have a completely closed-in full bar area with the largest T.V I've ever seen inside a place! There is a small dining area that has an extremely large T.V in it that took me awhile to even notice. It has high ceilings, but is very quiet as they actually put in sound barriers to absorb the noise. I sadly can't speak on the dessert offering as, for once, I was entirely too full to even think about dessert... I KNOW crazy right!? The only negative I have to say about the Pit is their pickle situation... they only have one kind, bread and butter that not the negative what is though, is the fact that they have them mixed with carrots (still ok) and fresh jalapeños NOT OK! I ordered the 3 pounder it came with a corn, 2 potatoes, mushrooms (handful) and an andouille sausage link. They also have gloves and they gave me a buck for the shells.
