I was grossed out by the amount of blood under the skin. (I KNOW it's an animal with blood but I've never had bbq with that amount of blood on the meat) but I'm not penalizing them for it. Def 7/10! Brisket: Super tender, melted in the mouth, great taste. 8/10 Green beans: Not greasy, tender (not mushy or undercooked). I think they may have spilled the seasoning into the batch they main because holy moly, a TON of pepper and salt. I'm heavy handed with my seasonings but that amount didn't seem intentional. It was hard to choose what to get but I ended up ordering pork ribs, two meat plate with chicken, deer sausage and Lean beef, beans and potato salad. Spacious.. they have a patio room with a huge tv, bar seating, and tables all around. It was like a tourisy bbq spot because they had like a tiny little gift shop like spot where you can buy trinkets or souvenirs. They have sandwiches and tacos. The best thing there is probably the brisket though. It's moist and fatty and easy to eat. The ends weren't hard, charred, or chewy. I don't think there was like seasoning or flavor was heavy but the quality of the meat was delicious. The sides weren't the best or even best selection. Came here for the first time after church because my stomach was growling for food. My husband suggested that we try this spot since he's been here before. So I considered it. I'm not much of a pork person. But I did give it a try and it was ok. Not the best, the turkey was really good! The Mac n cheese was giving too creamy then thickness. The Jambalaya was probably the best part to be honest. The service seemed a little dull. Maybe because they just had a rush hour. The vibe is alright they just need to hold the flies from landing the meats they got out which wasn't really too hot. And I need the tea to touch my soul just right! I love Texas BBQ so I've been to all the Austin, Dallas, and Houston spots especially on Texas Monthly. Brisket was dry, chicken was brined for a little too long and gave a tire texture. Potato salad was too wet, too fatty, and didn't provide the acidity to contrast the fat. The sausage was decent, I give 4/5 stars. It was thick, juicy, and was similar to other places such as Truth, Corkscrew, Terry Black's, etc. The elotes was also too acidic for my liking and the cheese on top didn't mix well with the dish. Finally, the brisket was just ok. I must've gotten a lean piece because it had the texture of chicken thighs. The bark wasn't flavorful or smoky. Barbecue sauce was what I expected. I finally got a chance to check out The Pit Room for a business lunch and was not disappointed. There's a healthy line around the lunch rush, but it's not as bad as Truth or Pinkerton's, etc. and it moved along fairly quickly. Like most other BBQ spots, you stand in line, order at the counter, then take your tray of food with you to a table. I really appreciated that their menu had plenty of offerings outside the 1 meat, 2 meat, 3 meat combo orders. You could get sandwiches, tacos, large group orders for various headcounts, frito pies, chili, desserts, breakfast tacos, and even a salad for that very lost vegan who walked in off the street. The interior is huge with plenty of seating options. They have a main room where the counter service is, along with a much larger back room. You'll find a table. It isn't the absolute best BBQ in Texas, nor town, but it's certainly worth a regular visit for lunch or dinner when you want some good BBQ without the ultra hype, crowds, and price other places have. read more

We each got the brisket and chorizo. I liked that it came with hot sauce and pico on the side, we also asked for the refried beans on the side rather than on the taco. We also enjoyed the serve yourself condiments. Unfortunately it was all down hill from there. The tortillas were thin and the tacos were nothing buy grease. Nice savory bite to it. Great tortillas. The eggs were from the line but were perfectly cooked. Paired it with the red sauce. Just a really really good combination. Seriously The brisket, egg & cheese was good. I felt like it was more of a brisket with sauce like you would get with a chopped brisket sandwich, more sweet than savory. Tried the green sauce here but it wasn't paired well with the sweetness of the brisket. Same great tortilla & perfectly mass cooked eggs. Great taco but more sweet than I would have preferred. This place is crowded most of the time, due good reason. The meat is tender and juicy and the sides are pretty consistent. The ribs brisket and sausage are the stars for me. I always enjoy bbq green beans with true perfect char. The elote was creamy and seasoned just right. It's a great portion and the price is great considering there will be left overs in my case, the rustic vibe indoors and outdoors. The patio is massive and great for larger groups. So it was my besties birthday and we wanted some good BBQ and heard this place had it. And so we drove the 18 miles to try it. We are so glad we did! As with most BBQ places it's served cafeteria style, go down the line and pick what you want, you could literally see the juices flow out of the brisket as he was cutting it (begin drooling here) you have a choice of dry or wet. I ordered the one meat plate with the wet brisket since I couldn't get the ribs I wanted, as they only serve those by the pound at just under $35 (that'll be a separate trip) and double Mac n Cheese ( had it from a reliable source, a 4 year old as we were coming in the door that it was "the bomb!) that little man knew what he was talking about! They even had my favorite Mexican Coke and the good tiny ice! The brisket was so juicy and tender it was falling apart just looking at it. And wasn't over seasoned like most places do to a point that you can't even taste the meat, it had its natural flavor enhanced with a bit of salt and possibly hickory. I honestly haven't had brisket that good EVER and I'm really old AND from Texas to be saying that, so you know it's good! Now let's talk about that Mac n Cheese... it was a thick oooyee gooey cheesy, mouthful of heaven with every bite and made me real glad I got two orders of it. The restaurant is deceptively large, a bit like the "Tardis" bigger on the inside! They have a completely closed-in full bar area with the largest T.V I've ever seen inside a place! There is a small dining area that has an extremely large T.V in it that took me awhile to even notice. It has high ceilings, but is very quiet as they actually put in sound barriers to absorb the noise. I sadly can't speak on the dessert offering as, for once, I was entirely too full to even think about dessert... I KNOW crazy right!? The only negative I have to say about the Pit is their pickle situation... they only have one kind, bread and butter that not the negative what is though, is the fact that they have them mixed with carrots (still ok) and fresh jalapeños NOT OK! And don't have another option for those who can no longer stomach fresh jalapeños. Still not gonna keep me from going back there and if you're reading this GO you will not be disappointed. For the price what u get is absolutely a rip off and not even worth it based on taste. They should use less on the esthetics of this place and use more on the quality of meats. The rib I got was cold, salty, and dry. Did not enjoy it at all. Two piece of brisket was cut very thinly and the sausage would have been ok if it WAS WARM. The bread slice was good.
