I can't believe this place had such a low Yelp rating; let's change that. This is the best BBQ I've ever had. I've had BBQ in Texas, I've had it at rib fests across the country, and nothing has satisfied my BBQ dreams like Mad Ox did. I was serving someone the brisket and it was so tender, it was falling off my fork. I had to get a spoon to scoop it up for them. It melted in my mouth and hit all the right smoky notes. The absolute crown jewel is the Beef Back Ribs. Served on a massive slab, how can you not feel awed by it? Doused with smoky and slightly spicy BBQ sauce, the tender but meaty bites sent me into a food haze over and over. The meat combo is the way to go, you can try everything. Make sure you get the spicy chicken sausage. It's cheesy inside! You could probably eat the meats and leave satisfied, but the sides are also worth mentioning. Of the bunch, I loved the "Brisket Mac N Cheese". It's not Mac in a skillet, but the cheesy sauce is infused with flavors. The "Street Corn" and "Truffle Fries" are also elevated versions of any you've had before. At the end of the day, I was very satisfied with the quality and quantity of the food I was paying for. It's not cheap, but I really felt like I was eating food that was crafted by a master chef. But you also never get the sense from the servers that it's a hoity toity place. The restaurant has a smooth, understated elegance. It's a fancy place but not pretentious at all. It's a place that simultaneously feels like home and fine dining. That's what soul food is all about, and if I'm crazy to say this is the best soul food I've ever had, then that must be why they call it Mad Ox no? read more

We had previously ordered take out at Mad Ox and decided to dine in. We arrived at about noon on a Sunday for lunch. The restaurant almost empty and we were seated immediately. At the table, they provide a QR code to access their menu. At first, I thought this did not work, but realized it was a link directly to a PDF which is downloaded. We decided to order the Backyard BBQ platter for us to share. This platter consists of 2 sauces, several picked items, and a choice of three meats. We choose the following: 1 lb Beef Brisket 1 lb Beef Back Ribs 1/2 lb Brazilian Tri Tip Being a platter, one would expect a couple side dishes to be included like they include with their plates, however this is not the case. So, we had to order waffle first and coleslaw in addition to the platter. The portions of food for the platter seem large on when listed on the menu, however they are much smaller than expected. As for the food, the brisket and the tri tip were very dry and lacked a lot of taste. It's odd because slow smoked meats should be moist, smokey and the dry rub should permeate the meat, disappointedly the brisket was not. The only standout of the entire meal were the back ribs. The ribs were full of flavour and fall of the bone tender. The waffle fries and coleslaw were just OK, and again I expected larger portions of both. Service, however, was very good and our server explained some of the options. So, our experience and food quality were much better during our first visit when ordered takeout, although we did order different things. Nevertheless, I am very disappointed in our last visit because most of the meat dishes were dry and lacked that BBQ flavour, the portions were smaller than expected, and we had to order side dishes in addition the platter. read more

I was craving birria tacos, so found this one located in Mississauga! We got seated right away for a Friday evening around 7pm. It was quite clean and modern inside. The food itself came out super quickly and hot. There is a kick of spice in the dip for the tacos which is nice, and the meat and cheese were tasty. Even got a few cheese pulls here and there. Definitely enough food to fill you up. The ribs fell off the bone and was juicy. Paired it with waffle fries and the sweet/spicy cornbread which were nice. read more

Over all a 4 out of 5 because the portions are good but for the price it should come with a few more sides or for them to make it bigger. But the flavours of the food are to die for especially the Bria Tacos. I'd go back just for that. It's like the best comfort food. First time eating here. My brother, sis in law and I went here around 6pm. We were served a table right away. The staff were incredibly nice. We ordered the tacos, and the chicken sandwich with waffle fries. We got our order within 10 minutes! The Birria Tacos are filled with flavorful beef stew meat. And the sauce it comes with on the side is so juicy and delicious. It's sweet, sorta tangy but spicy. It's a total flavor bomb! The manager came by and asked for our honest opinion on the tacos. We said it was finger licking amazing. He told us today is the first day they launched it, and that we were the first ones to try it. Thought that was pretty dope! The manager seemed very humble and friendly. I'm so happy the server told us about the tacos when we were placing the order. We would've never known. And the chicken sandwich with a side of waffle fries - sheesh it's one of a kind The fried chicken is dipped in their nashville chili sauce, topped with buttermilk-dill ranch, pickles and creamy coleslaw, all between a grilled brioche bun. The waffle fries are really satisfying. So fresh and crispy. My sis in law wanted to order cheesecake for dessert. I wasn't expecting such a huge portion. It was light, and not overly sweet. Loved the texture. The caramel sauce on top was perfection. Definitely coming back for tacos and cheesecake! All of this combined leads to an incredible dining experience. The only cons I must mention is food is a lil greasy, and the menu items are on the pricier side hence why the 4 stars not 5. I saw a lotta people ordering the Angus Brisket Plate and Beef Back Ribs. Wonderful service and the meat was super flavorful! The ambience is okay considering some of the many nice places in the Mississauga/ Toronto area, but the food makes up for what the decor lacks. Brisket is a must try from their menu either in the form of a sandwich or just on its own. 5 stars for it The steak was also nice, service size was moderate, not large or even comparable to what you get for the price at BlackStone, but the sauces were nice and it was done medium- rare just as I like it so I was happy. Heard a lot of good things about this place, but unfortunately it didn't come up to par. We ordered the rib eye steak which was cooked well, but the sauce was just way too salty and I had to take it off the steak to taste the meat properly. The brisket was good, but they didn't give any kind of bun or bread to eat the brisket with even though they had all the sides to make a sandwich. We even asked the waiter for a sandwich bun on the side and they refused to give us one (we were going to pay for it of course). The hot chicken sandwich ended up being a disaster with old and chewy chicken, which we complained about and requested to take off the bill since it was inedible. They did remove it from the bill which was good. The creamy lime mocktail was good. Best.Nashville.chicken.sandwich.ever. Ordered at Mad Ox for takeout and got two sandwiches (brisket sandwich & Nashville hot chicken sandwich), and waffle fries. I've had my fair share of Nashville hot chicken sandwiches because I love all things chicken and spicy. Mad Ox did not disappoint!! Their chicken was extremely fresh (piping hot as I opened the container) and juicy. The chicken itself was well seasoned and had a kick to it. They add coleslaw in the sandwich which I think adds a nice bit of freshness and creaminess to cut through the spice. The brisket sandwich was great as well. Brisket wasn't dry and the mustard sauce they add on top is delicious. Very mild tasting but enhances the flavour nicely! Waffle fries are always a 5/5. Super fresh and crispy with the right amount of seasoning. I'd say the price is fair and definitely worth the amount of food we got, as we found the meal to be very filling! They Mad Ox management needs to improve lots of things to compare with other fine dining restaurants for example should offer tap water, should offer ketchup with fries and other sauces without charging the customers. First time trying this place and glad we made the trip here! We placed a take out order online and got two of their chicken sandwich combos. Spicy and fresh! The chicken breast was very... thicccccc. Good but if it was a little bit less thick, I think the balance between chicken and spices would have been perfect. The mac and cheese was good but I can't say it's anything too crazy or a die hard to try item. The waffle fries though? Perfectly made and soft/crispy. They give quite a bit for the side so bless up. Staff seemed very nice and really cared about their customer service. Appreciate that. I would def recommend this and come back to try other items! The combo was huge and I'm unbelievably stuffed. June 28, 2024 this was one of the worst food experience we had in a long time. Went for wedding anniversary dinner and ordered Backyard BBQ Platter. Food arrived after approx 30+ mins, all the meats on the platter were COLD and very fatty. After returning the food, had to wait another 20+ mins and the it came back luke warm. No waiter came to ask if we needed anything more or any extra water (which is charged). Overall service was not good at all. Free dessert was offered for bad food experience. I declined and asked the food bill to be adjusted - which was declined. The total bill was $137.86 for 4 people - this is not an experience I will ever repeat! read more

Definitely loved this place!! I always love a good BBQ and their meat was so flavorful and tender! I'm usually not a huge fan of ribs but these were amazing! We for there platter that comes with the three different meats including tri and ribs - definitely recommend it! We got a couple mac n cheese, wish it was a little bit more creamy but definitely loved the smoke flavor. The fries were yummy waffle fries. The waiter was great and gave us recommendations from the menu which was helpful since it was our first time! It's halal so that's amazing too!! I really want to like this place but $31 dollars for 2 ribs thats mostly bone?! $26 dollars for 2 pieces of dry brisket. Not worth it in my opinion. Beef brisket is how I decide to base my thoughts of a BBQ restaurant. Had 1/2 lb lean and 1/2 medium fatty. Unfortunately, both parts were dry. My experience with brisket is grease soaked everything, not Mad Ox. Loved the waffle fries and beans. The potato salad and coleslaw really needed salt. Taught I would try it out as I am a Big Bbq person. Very disappointed by the Price to Portion. The Brisket taste was good but the portion was 4 slices with 40% inedible fat for $27! The 1/4 chicken was small and tasted like Indian spice chicken, to me not BBQ more a BBQ twist on tandoori. The crinkle cut fries were hard and stale. The coleslaw and cornbread was good. Giving them 2 stars because the sides here were really good but the meat was 100% PRECOOKED and SUPER DRY! I ordered the brisket and it tasted like it was microwaved before it was served to me. It came lukewarm with little to no Seasoning unless you consider pepper alone seasoning. The dish came with a sauce so I ordered their 'famous' berry bbq but it didn't help. Maybe a fruity sauce is just not my thing to eat with meat but anyways I just could not finish my meal. Really delicious and succulent beef back ribs cooked to perfection.. I generally don't like super sweet BBQ but this was not overly sweet and they also provided a spicy sauce on the side which was perfect. The mac and cheese was good, bit strong on the smoke flavour but the cheese sauce was smooth, pasta cooked well and the bread crumbs on top were so crunchy and perfect. Coleslaw needed some flavour!! Or seasoning!! Salt, pepper, lime juice, acid! The ribs were so well seasoned with pepper and salt, wasn't a fan of the extra wild berry sauce but it was so well cooked, flavourful and moist, it didn't even matter.
