The 2 full bars and plush leather couches are enticing enough to make me want to come back at night when this place turns into a lounge. The outdoor patio and pool area is a major plus! Onto the food: -Kobe tri-tip: there was literally 4 pieces along with some pickled veggies. For the price, not worth it for 2 bites -Hamachi ceviche: we asked that they hold the spice on this dish but that might have ruined it for us. The hamachi was overly sour; it needed something else to balance it out. Our bad. -strip steak: Our server hyped it up so much but it ended up being pretty ordinary. Not enough sides or veggies to fill us up. For the price and portion sizes we were not impressed. We were still moderately hungry after our $75 meal here, which is unacceptable. 2 stars for the overpriced subpar food but a bonus star for decor and service in this otherwise sketchy neighborhood. I must add the restroom here was one of the worst. It was literally a creepy dark closet with a toilet in it (everything was painted black and the lighting was extremely dim in there! This ranks at the top of my brunch selections, right next to Foreign Cinema in SF. This place reminds me of some of the LA establishment. One would have never guessed a poolside patio restaurant in the midst of tenderloin. The food was exceptional for brunch, deviating from the traditional eggs benedict, huevos rancheros, and omelets which become too repetitive from one place to another in this city. MUST-HAVES: soufflé pancake with apple chutney, membrillo, maple ice cream pork belly with two soft boiled eggs, caramelized onion, yukon potato, lolipop kale, gochujang, black garlic, cilantro SOLID: japanese omelet "tamago" with house-smoked chorizo, sweet potato, cana de oveja, scallions I also have the spicy cucumber cocktail with hangar one chipotle, lime, agave, cucumber. Good refreshing cocktail with a nice kick to it. ---------------- I also came to this place for dinner in sept 2014 and both my boyfriend and I had a case of bad diarrhea after the meal. Such a disappointing brunch experience. The food and drinks are great but the service needs to be improved. Came here after an event at noon and we were told the table would be ready in 5-10 minutes. We were waiting for over 45 minutes and asked the hostess three times about the status of the table, she apparently forgot about it and her demeanor wasn't friendly at all. When we were finally seated, our food order took an additional 30 minutes... The waiter was nowhere to be found and we had to ask repeatedly about the status of our food, which was already ready in the kitchen..... and cold when we received. Our server Stephanie, did not come to our table except to deliver drinks, after 10 minutes of empty glasses and having to wave her down for everything. We all work in the service industry in Las Vegas (I'm a bartender) and were ready to spend money and celebrate and we either received no service or rude service. Drinks? Great. Awesome. Bartenders making custom drinks, playlist based off Sublime hits. Stellar. The ambiance was fabbbbbb. Ordered a pork chop - almost completely all fat. We didn't want to say anything because of the service, but yeah. Our server did take it off though, which was nice! Also, told the bride there could only be one card, then us four, and then told us it couldn't be itemized until the end. I have worked with the same POS system and it's doable. And also dropped the check without telling us what the $59.50 charge listed on the bottom was until we had to wave her down and asked her. Us trying to separate everything at the end of the dinner was a huge downer. We didn't even know what some of the charges were - example, ordered a Mojito on our bill it was a "Baptiste".... like a bartender, it takes a few seconds to explain things correctly, especially since she left us alone to break it down. Chambers is a really fun, unique spot in San Francisco. I came here on a Saturday for a friends birthday brunch. We did bottomless mimosas and family style food. They let her select the food ahead of time and had a good variety of options. You're able to choose three mains and three sides. We ordered: Mains: -albacore tuna poke bowl -soft scrambled eggs (comes with avocado, potatoes, side salad) -pork belly (comes with soft boiled eggs, potatoes) Sides: -crispy bacon -crispy Yukon gold potatoes -biscuits and gravy My favorite dishes were the pork belly and poke bowl. The biscuits and gravy were also a great deal as a "side" because the portions were huge! Everyone at the table had plenty of food and were sufficiently stuffed by the end. We also got to sit outside by the pool which was great because it was such a nice, sunny day. Only downside is price. When it was all said and done our tab was definitely higher than I expected, and a more than some other comparable brunch spots. However, I'd still do brunch again here. I usually don't order old fashioned because some bartenders make it too sugary. This one seemed on the smaller side, but it was tasty and hit the spot. Sometime size doesn't matter. =P I thought the drink prices were reasonable for San Francisco. I think the only downside was that the bar chairs are so big and heavy that they get in the way when you're trying to order a drink. Tucked away the TL, Chambers is a not-so-hidden SF gem. I thought I had been here before but I quickly realized I had confused it with another place. It was a rare nice day in SF and I wanted to have drinks and dinner outdoor by the pool. We shared a couple of appetizers - pork belly, asparagus salad, and the market fish. They were all ok (3-4 stars). The halibut was slightly overseasoned and definitely overcooked. The pork belly was good but I personally make a great pork belly dish so I'm a tough judge on that one. The drinks we got were quite good. After some discussions with the server, I got the Even Flow (Rum, tequila, pineapple, lime, toasted rice gum, coconut milk, served tall on the rocks), which I liked very much. We came here for dinner since we were staying at the hotel and wanted to grab a bite before our show at 7. Absolutely awful service. We sat at the bar where we were served and charged for drinks we didn't order (after the bar tender joked that the drinks were on her) and after we were finally able to get her to take our order (which was pretty tough to squeeze in between her over the top compliments about how "cute" we were as a family, a compliment that started as fun but after about the fifth time only became creepy.) We never received one of the entrees we ordered and when we followed up (the second time) with the bartender about where our food was she straight up told us she didn't put it in because "she could tell we would be too full." We were not too full. In fact I was extremely hungry for the entire play we had to rush to after our very disappointing meal. The people who serve here are really friendly. Especially when you have a cute pup! FOOD: 4 Stars So I've been here twice before. The first time I got eggs Benedict. It wasn't that great.. Honestly I've had way better. The flavor was just not there for me. But the pork belly with potatoes were soooooo gooooddd. Ever since I've tried the pork belly, I refuse to get anything else. This was amazing. The brioche was toasted perfectly and there was just a dash of mayonnaise enough for taste. The Croquette itself was all meat and grilled to a medium rare. It was so tender. The house vinaigrette was a little too oily for my taste BUT the burger blew me away. My boyfriend ordered the Pork Belly. Although only a cube of Pork Belly came with the dish, everything on the plate was amazing. I have no idea what was on those Yukon potatoes but boy, were they out of this world!! Walking on Polk Street all the way down from Russian Hill and it was only until I got to the corner of Eddy and Polk that it felt a bit sketchy. Although I must say when you step inside the venue, it is beautifully decked out with shelves full of vinyl records in a romantic setting. My friend and I reserved a table through the website and during dinner caught up on 6 years worth of missed conversations. We went through two appetizers and the "Fish of the Day" entree and had several cocktails and wines in hand. I appreciated that music in the background didn't overpower our conversations. And when we talked, we talked so long that when we had to use the restroom, the only two unisex stalls were taken and waiting for 2 minutes seemed like an eternity. After leaving our table, we decided to scope out the bar area with the infamous "Be Amazing" sign in the background. The bartender was cool and let me taste the Prosecco before ordering a full glass. With our last beverages in hand, we went outside and sat right in front of the open fire pit, watched hotel members swam in the pool, and let the cold SF breeze take over the night. Chambers gave me a memorable night of catching up with old friends. I am so glad I discovered this place randomly on Yelp searching for cool spots to check out. The decor at Chambers is very interesting, I quite enjoy the records library aesthetic. I came here for a drink and just some light bites before going to a museum event. The drink menu was interesting and I got the Why Go, which had bourbon, vermouth, yuzu carrot juice, lime juice, agave and egg whites. For me, the carrot and citrus flavors definitely came out and it was an interesting mix with bourbon. I tried a bit of my friend's patata bravas, and they tasted pretty good although it didn't blow me away. I ordered the fried oyster bao, as I was quite excited with the idea. The bao's texture was more dense than usual, and it tasted fine but also was not amazing. I didn't try much else, but if I was in the area for a good cocktail, I'd try Chambers again. read more

Thanks to Yelp, I found a new cool spot for happy hour! Happy hour starts at 5:00, but dinner seating doesn't start until 6:00pm. I met up with my co-worker on a Friday, we sat at the bar and had 2 cocktails before we got seats for dinner. Happy hour cocktails are $5 vs $12 off the regular menu. Drinks were delicious. Try the "Sticky Fingers" its refreshing! Rock Cod $28 - Nori crusted masa, summer squash, abalone mushroom, corn, fava beans, serrano scallion oil. It's a little on the pricier side for a small portion, but it was delicous and beautifully presented! I really enjoyed the fresh and flakey cod plus I'm a big fan of mushrooms. The summer squash was shaved into a long thin strip and rolled into a rose. Beautiful plating. Hanger Steak $30 - Isreali Couscous, asparagus, baby carrot, onion soubise, dukkha spice, hazelnut, cilantro. My co-worker ordered this and I snuck a bite. The meat was cooked to perfection and the cous cous was well flavored. It's spacious, with interior decor decorated like a library and vinyl records. We had a great happy hour and dinner! But then as the day got closer I got two reservation confirmation calls stating dinner reservations, so I called back & the girl told me that she found out from a manager that table reservations were only for dinner. When I walked in with a couple friends & my bf, the hostess got Isabelle right away after seeing my reservation & she showed me around asking me what table/area I'd prefer. We decided on a big table by the walkway which across was the door to the pool outside. While the back lounge area is absolutely *AMAZING* (if you've been here you get it), it was way too crowded & stuffy. While we were waiting for the table to clear up she told us to go to the bar & got us 4 drinks on the house. I enjoyed my Pisco Punch though I asked for it to be a little more on the sweeter than the sour side. Just like Chambers, Pisco is so hot right now! One handful of friends that came in a little after us said that they tried to get in through the lounge exit but the bouncer said that they were at capacity & that some people were even trying to slip him some money. Just go through the front restaurant entrance & you'll have no problem getting in. As the night went on we kept seeing yummy food pass by us & luckily my friends that came later on indulged in some food, so I got to try some tasty truffle fries. I did underestimate how many people would show up, so next time lounge couch for sure! Totally worth exploring! I am one of those people who has never...ever... looked to the Civic Center hood for a Saturday night itinerary. That is, until fate brought me to Chambers Eat + Drink (part of the Phoenix Hotel) for work-related cocktail party last weekend. I love when "work" and "cocktail" make their way into the same sentence. The Tenderloin motel exterior is pure deception, because the guts of this place are gorgeous! Think prep-school gone swanky. Lots of plaid and leather, old records lining the shelves, and a dark den-like atmosphere that begs for a stiff drink. While I'm usually a wine gal, the cocktail list was too intriguing to pass up. The Cuzco - rum, ginger beer, cinnamon bitters and lime - was a spicy delight. The French 75 = liquid classiness. Bartender Annabelle was a dream! She handled our party of 50-ish like a sweet, smiling champ. Thanks to the fantastic staff, swanky digs, and crafty drinks, our group had no problem making themselves at home at Chambers. PLUS, on rare sunny days you can take your drink out to the poolside lounge area. You really gotta see this place... read more

BEST BRUNCH PLACE EVER! My wife and I visited SF over a weekend. We did our homework and selected a few restaurants we wanted to visit. Chambers was one in our list, so we booked for Saturday brunch well in advance. Our first impression of the place was not good. We walked over from our hotel and had to cross through very sketchy areas to find it. When we finally did, we were confused because Chambers is adjacent to a 1950s motor lodge that reminded me of hippie videos I had seen in history class. We weren't sure where the restaurant was, but we soon found there's a separate door to the hotel to enter the restaurant. Once inside, Chambers is GORGEOUS!! It's an oasis in the middle of a depressed area of SF. Decoration is a little hipster, with walls covered by vinyl records, modern lighting, and a very cool vibe! Staff is very friendly and will not hesitate to share their advice on what to order. We absolutely followed their recommendations and boy were we in for a treat! There are no word to describe how ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS our brunch was. Pictures (although great) still are not enough to show how perfect everything was. My hubby and I went here for my brother-in-law's 30th birthday on a Saturday night. My sister made a reservation for about eight of us and we were promptly seated upon arrival. The exterior of the restaurant looked like a giant black, windowless box. Thankfully there was a sign next to the restaurant that read "Chambers" because we would have definitely missed the place without it. The interior, however, was much more decorative, with beautiful tables and chairs, low warm lighting, and a cozy atmosphere. We had a couple of people waiting on us and the service was alright, nothing special. There wasn't anything that particularly stood out. Because we had such a large party, we ordered double of the following appetizers: foie gras, kobe beef, pork belly, and house fries. The kobe beef was served on a heated stone that seared the raw meat whilst on the table so that was pretty cool. The pork belly was very tender and tasted great. The foie gras was served with unagi, an interesting flavor that strangely worked well. As for the fries, they came out as giant rectangular cubes that had actual pieces of potato in them. But we weren't too big of a fan of them since they were more on the bland side. Because we were pretty full already, my hubby and I decided to split the Chamber burger with extra avocado. The bun was thinner than we expected, but instead of being crispy, it just tasted like flat bread. The patty was cooked and flavored well though. The side of fries was typical, but we did like the fresh herbs in it. Then finally for dessert, we ordered the coffee cake. While I understand that typical coffee cake has a crumbly surface, the entire piece of cake was barely holding it together, eliciting a rough texture. It did, however, come with a side of ice cream and honey lavender meringue which softened the cake up just a tad. But the combination of the cake, meringue, and ice cream quickly transformed the dessert to a sickly sweet dish. So for the kind of food we got and for the amount, we have to say that Chambers is a little too pricey. We weren't too fond of the food and didn't like how there weren't that many options either. Most of our party just ordered the burger because there wasn't much else to choose from. While the place looks nice, we probably won't be back to a place where the food is mediocre. read more

One of two foodie adventures I actually had on this last visit of SF. And it was pretty eye opening. This place reminds me of the restaurants in Silverlake, Los Angeles. Trendy/hipsterish vibe in a somewhat sketchy looking neighborhood. Prices are definitely spendy for what you get. But the food and concept is brilliant. My favorite dish was the one I had ordered, the soft scrambled eggs with peas and szechuan style chili oil. What I was expecting was a ginormous scramble egg(it was $12), and a bit of greens on the side. But this dis had a very small portion of eggs, maybe 3 eggs? But felt more like 2. A bit disappointed on the egg front. But it was soft, still a bit running, exactly what I wanted that morning. But what I loved about this dish was the peas, mushroom, and other greens. It was perfectly seasoned, fresh, sweet, and just overall surprisingly delicious. The Szechuan style chili was unnecessary, but I think they had a theme going on, soooo sure why not. If you used the chili oil/sauce, it's not bad either. Try it out for yourself. It's very szechuan. Among all the other dishes my party ordered were the Hangover hash(love the name), and the pork belly entree. ++The hangover hash had the most amazing presentation, and the most disappointing small piece of pastrami ever. But it was so tender, so fatty and rich, and SO GOOD. I just want a plate full of that please. +The pork belly entree had very nice presentation as well. This had a Korean theme going on. Since it's served with gochujang, it's automatically Korean. And we did have a Korean at our table, he dared to say it was the best thing he's ever eaten. Not sure if he is exaggerating, but I thought it was not bad. Those were among the most memorable dishes I tried. Not sure if I would order the souffle pancake Marcus ordered, thought it was kinda pricey and I would much rather just have a souffle or just pancake. But that's just me. Oh yeah, $14 bottomless mimosas! Our server was very good about topping us off. That's always awesome. I had quite a good experience here. Definitely recommend if you want a nice relaxing brunch next to the pool. read more

Not a regular in the neighborhood and took some convincing to get hubby out here...only because it was still early and the sun was still out. Got parking right outside and walked in through the backdoor. Appear to a private event but it was only for half of the place. We walked toward to the front and got the chaise seats across from the fireplace - quite comfy. Our waiter, Pablo, was nice and helpful. Cocktails were $10 each. No drafts, all bottles so hubby opted on cocktails too. Hubby started with #9 whiskey drink - old overholt rye, benedictine, araku, peychauds bitter. It tasted mostly like whiskey - served martini style. #2 bramble - tanqueray, lemon, sugar, leopolds blackberry, mint. Hubby liked this better. I started with #8 pisco punch - pisco, lemon, lime, american honey liquer, pineaple juice, galliano - it was ok. #7 - cusco, aged brugal rum, lime, ginger beer, cinnamon bitters. Tasted mostly ginger beer. Shared some small plates: smoking salmon - $14 - salmon caviar, yuzu sake crème fraiche, chive oil. smoked salmon rolled above a mini grill w/ smoke for flavor only. It was more fun to look than to eat. sea salad - $13 - hirame sashimi, cucumber, seaweed, radicchio, daikon, popcorn shoots, smoky vin, puffed rice. Not bad. sizzling kobe tri-tip - $14 - summer vegetable salad, mushroom brandy reduction. SUPER yummy. If you like your beef medium rare, remove the tri-tip for the hot stone right away...or you'll end up with medium or well steak. Sauce is good but skip it and enjoy the essence of good beef. Love the ambiance. The fireplace was a nice touch. Very cool and interesting light fixtures. The albums decor is great - sure take you back seeing some of the covers. Music is mostly classic rock but a Dionne Warwick tune was in the mix... Good times - look forward to returning. read more

I have never been here before, but then when I arrived, I realized that I had been in this area before. I had no idea that THIS was the Tenderloin ... one of the most raved about Viet sandwich places is just around the corner. Anyway, having ... experienced this place during the day, it was no surprise that I found myself far more outmatched by the sheer amount of random people stopping me on the street at night and hearing the words "Drugs" over and over again when passing other peoples' conversations. I don't know how people dress and doll up to come here because I was feeling mucho overdressed. However, once inside, it was a nice, warm atmosphere that greeted me at Chambers. The staff was friendly enough and we moved ourselves back to the lounge area because our dinner guests were still dining. The lounge has a nice sign that says "be amazing". There was an outdoor area with pool, etc. but for some reason it was closed later on at night when it became unbearably warm inside the lounge. Overall, anytime after 12:00am this place is a cluster, you will wait at least 25+ minutes to try to get the attention of a bartender to get a drink because they're so busy and it's almost impossible to get through. But before that ... it was nice. Come early or prepare to be very, very aggressive! read more

Besides the somewhat hidden location inside Phoenix Hotel, the amazing (and very reasonably priced) brunch mostly remains a secret: fancy-pants brunch in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, plus there is no wait--a great find in a city where a $20 brunch with a 45 minute wait is considered a normal weekend routine. [THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS BY DAY] The menu is fairly extensive and features creative variations on brunch food in which they take everything a step further. There are no pancakes, French toast, or scrambled eggs; only souffle pancakes, spiced French toast, and soft scrambled eggs. Some items add a fusiony spin, incorporating diverse flavors such as Spanish (tortilla omelette), Filipino (loco moco), Korean (gochujang), even San Franciscan (red quinoa). The PORK BELLY ($13, two soft boiled eggs, caramelized onion, Yukon potatoes, lollipop kale, gochujang, black garlic, cilantro) made a hearty brunch with the huge block of pork belly. The lollipop kale adds a nice flair. It's melt-in-your-mouth crispy and reminds me of the crispy fried vegetable in Chinese dishes. (Also, it makes you feel healthy because it's kale). The SPICED FRENCH TOAST ($12, strawberry mandarin compote, vanilla whipped cream, bourbon syrup).... so many delicious things put together! The description speaks for itself: it tastes as amazing as it sounds. I had planned to get Saigon Sandos across the street in case we were still hungry afterwards, but we were quite satisfied. [THE SLIGHTLY-LESS-SECRETIVE CHAMBERS BY NIGHT] The ambiance at night is vintage romantic: bookshelves of vinyl records lining the walls, shadowy lighting in warm gold and amber tones, climaxing at the famous "BE AMAZING" sign spelled out in light bulbs in the backdrop of the bar. The cocktails are good. Not too strong, but nice to sip on and ponder about how to be amazing while relaxing on one of their classy couches and staring at the flickering flame of a candle. My friends & I decided to host a bridal shower here for our friend that didn't want the typical tea party type shower. Although, Chambers is located in the Tenderlion it truly is a hidden gem. I recommend valet parking at the Cova Hotel for $3/hr as it is only half a block away and better than worrying about metered parking. For our large brunch party they provided us with a family style menu for $25/per head. Everything we ordered was delicious!!! Spiced French Toast Pork Lion Red Quinoa Salad Coffee Cake Chicken maple sausage Fruit Cup We were placed in an enclosed area of the patio with heating lamps provided. The patio is located adjacent to the Phoenix hotel that has a cool retro style which was a great backdrop for photos. Overall, Chambers was was cool, hip & trendy! I was really disappointed with the food and drinks. I started off with the kumquat cocktail which was not well mixed and very bitter although described as sweet by the bartender. For apps- we got the dates which were really great. I got the pigs in a blanket (bar bite) for dinner and it was disgusting. There was a hair in my food and it was cold. Lucky me didn't find the hair until I had eaten two pieces. I complained to the waiter and nothing was done. We were charged for everything despite my complaint.
