Came here for a simple, but fancy, Saturday dinner. For drinks, I ordered the #2 gin drink, while my friend ordered a crispin cider. The cocktail was extremely refreshing, and were it not for the fact that we were planning to go to a cocktail bar afterwards, I definitely would've ordered a second. For entrees, my friend and I both ordered New York Steak cooked medium rare. We were pleasantly surprised how every element on the plate blended so well together. Of course, the steak was the star of the show. But the taste was elevated with the sauce, and patatas bravado. Overall, the food and service were excellent. My only gripe is the seating. The couches had no cushion, and it basically felt like we were sitting on a hard piece of wood. There also wasn't much space between our seats and table, so it was hard to get in and out. When Chambers opened in 2011, it was my "go to" spot. I now live near Half Moon Bay and when my GF wanted to use our open night for a dinner out (and given the recent reopening of dining), my first thought was Chambers and she agreed, having experienced it before. Reservations were a breeze and Orlando was nice enough to let us use the "house" aka Hotel Phoenix parking lot (last spot though) as our SUV doors didn't all lock. As you may know, the neighborhood is a little dicey but when you walk in, it's a whole different world! Isabel Manchester is still rocking the house, the FOH staff are welcoming & efficient and the drinks are as on point as before... the food/ambience are as stellar as ever (Chef Anthony is still fantastic and the patatas bravas are better than ANY tapas place in SF). If you find yourself in TL area you have to check it out. The neighbor isn't the best but it's definitely a hidden gem. Upon entrance you're greeted with a soft ambiance lighting of records and beige curtains. Entire party must be present to be seated. The entire restaurant has a 60/70 classy energy with more vinyl records tucked away in the walls, dim lighting and large art work. From the dining area, you can see the view of the retro Phoenix Hotel and pool. In the back bar, has a small open area with lounge couches and a light up sign "Be Amazing". After 9pm, the back bar has a live DJ. The food has so much flavor packed in except the Tots; tots come with two dipping sauces that isn't too exciting. The cauliflower is colorful and spicy; a must! Located in the heart of the Tenderloin area of San Francisco, you can find a great restaurant that is Chambers, which is also to the side of the Phoenix Hotel, where you'll often see DJ's play at pool parties during the summer time. My friends and I came here to celebrate one of our friends who recently got a new job over food and drinks. The neighborhood isn't the nicest of all places, which makes sense that the restaurant itself doesn't have the most welcoming exterior (literally just looks like a rectangular box); however, the inside is decorated well so that its guests can experience a somewhat loungey and comfy feel with its shelves housing many old school vinyls. We ordered a couple of starters for the table: short rib croquettes, crispy pork belly, and the summer cheese plate (must get if you like an assortment of cheeses with honey comb). The crispy pork belly basically melted in our mouths when it came out with the melon, chili sauce, and the mint (definitely a must try)! The short rib croquettes were kind of whatever, but the cheese plate was bomb. For my entree, I ordered the pan seared king salmon, which was neatly presented with some clams, a sort of corn puree, and an assortment of summer veggies. I'm glad that they seared the skin side of the salmon extra long because the crispy texture brought the dish to the next level. If you're in the mood for dessert, you're in luck. Their bread pudding and chocolate tall cake are one of the best desserts I've had, and I don't even like sweets! read more

From the outside looking in, you don't see the impressive and chicness inside of Chambers! Once you enter, it was like a whole other vibe going on. I was surprised and digging it. There's an outside, contemporary lounge area that is integrated with a motel and communal poolside. It's very different on how they combined the two aspects together and it's quite leisurely to sit back outside with a drink on hand. They have fabulous specialty cocktails as well as bottomless mimosas for 12 bucks with a brunch entrée. I got their Campari drink and it was refreshing while lounging and our party was waiting to be seated. It took awhile to be seated on a Friday night. This place gets discreetly packed. There's a lounge area on the inside and they have these light bulbs lit up to BE AMAZING. (Key reminder to do so in life. Thanks, Chambers.) Their brunch food as well as their dinner entrees, are wonderful to the palate. It suits the speakeasy atmosphere and the whole jazz to this happening place. I love their pork belly with eggs for the morning with mimosas. Do order their Hangover Hash if you need a recovery from the night before! It has these unique gelatin, surface-covered, dressing that pops onto the salad with it that I found interesting. For dinner, their quinoa salad has texture and was healthy with fiber. After a long night of going out in the city, Chambers Brunch was the perfect cure to my very very very very BAD hangover. For a table of 6, my group ordered the champagne bottle service ($40) and it was good for 2 glasses per person. They also offer bottomless, but 2 was good enough for our hung over asses. For being semi-busy, the service was very good and the vibe of the restaurant is super chic and cool. They have a contemporary look with all the records, curtains, and dim lighting. Top that off with their soothing music, this place is purrrfeectt for those trying to recover from the night before. For food, I love the variety of their menu - from savory to sweet, they offer a lot of choices! My group of 6 tried everyone's dishes and I highly suggest the pork belly or hung over hash as these were the more filling dishes compared to the others. If you want a lighter dish, the red quinoa salad is pretty tasty, but wish they had more prosciuto. The Spanish Omelette, souffle pancake, and burger were okay. The souffle pancake tasted like flour and wasn't anything special, while the Spanish Omelette was good, but everything else with it was random. And the burger is a burger.... Came here for brunch and it was pretty cool. The restaurant shared the space with the hotel, so we were able to eat next to the pool (poolside brunch). The food and drinks were delicious. The drinks were refreshing. They put a spin on their dishes, which sometimes doesn't work but luckily it worked out for some of the dishes we had. The servers were very kind. They were helpful with the menu and cracked jokes here and there with us, which was nice. The lounge area has plushy sofas and ottomans perfect for mingling and having a drink. There's also a poolside patio with several cabanas and a fire feature. A live DJ comes in at 10 PM and currently plays Soul/Loungey music. There are 2 bars and drinks didn't seem to be a problem to get though we only stayed till 10:20 PM. Chamber's attracts the Marina-type crowd and Hipsters in the masses if that's your thing. Chambers is definitely a place to check out and start your night off but not a place I can spend the whole night at (I like to dance). P A R K I N G Street parking; beware of street cleaning signs. We started at the bar early, around 6:30pm, so it wasn't too busy. The bartender was awesome. We basically told him what we liked and he crafted specialty cocktails for us. And of course we did a birthday shot. Jameson was the shot of choice. It was a fun, chill atmosphere since there was only one other party sitting at the bar. We came back around 11pm for drinks and the place was packed. We managed to find a small table and had a couple of drinks. I ordered a pisco sour, but I think they made me a midori sour instead. I was done drinking anyways, so I gave it to a friend. She liked it. Atmosphere was definitely different as the bar had more of a bustling lounge vibe. I'd love to come back for a meal. FOOD: Souffle pancake - i saw a picture of this on yelp and it was covered with strawberries. I ordered this and it came with an apple topping so i'm assuming it just comes with whatever is convenient or in season. I had never heard of a souffle pancake before. This dish takes about 20 mins to make but it was really good. Think of a pancake with a consistency that is somewhere in between a souffle and a regular pancake. Awesome. Biscuits and gravy - i tried some of the gravy that came with this. Outstanding. There are bits of pork belly in it. Yes, i put some on my souffle pancake. Pork belly and pastrami - both really good. Came for brunch and couldn't find the place for 5mins.... There is no sign above the door, just look for a giant key logo and big wooden doors, thats the entrance. The interior is pretty unique from a seating arrangement to the decor they chose. I was offered outdoor seating however how can you pass up a chance to seat on a couch for brunch?! The food choices are fairly unique but they were a hit or miss for me, and they were not super generous on their portions, so you may want to order another plate or two for your table to share. There are two bars and one of them has a signature tag line of "be amazing", it's near the back of the store but it wasn't lit up when I went. If you like photos or are Asian, you will undoubtedly want to take a photo of this... Overall, this was a great and unique dining experience. Chambers is so unassuming on the outside but is a nice, hidden gem on the inside. If you're not familiar with Chambers (like me) you'll come to realize that Chambers restaurant shares a space with an old school motel. Chambers still manages to maintain it's classy restaurant/bar on one side, but allows goers to sit outside in the shared space they have with the motel. At first it was kinda weird seeing a pool in the middle of the place, but it has a nice retro vibe that seems to be a popular spot for weekend brunch (I came on a Thursday night). They have a solid happy hour menu that consists of a cheese plate, patatas bravas, cheeseburger/fries, brussel sprouts, etc. I opted for the cheeseburger w/fries ($12) and it was solid and I would get it again. + The burger was a good size and came with a side of super crispy fries. For $12 in SF I thought it was a great deal because I was full after eating it. + Patatas Bravas were OK. Not the best I've had but it's a huge bowl that you can share with your table. + Cheese plate was meh. I don't think I would get it again because the size didn't seem worth the price, but it you want something light to pair with your drinks it is a good option to get. I really liked the atmosphere outside but the service was a little slow. If you're sitting outside you need to come inside to order your food and they give you a number so they can bring it out to you. When we came for happy hour it took about 10-15 mins standing at the bar to get their attention when it wasn't that packed yet. That was probably the only thing because they were quick to bring it outside. Overall, I'm really curious to see this place on the weekend because from previous reviews it seems like this is the place to be! Probably one of the best experiences I've had in a long time!! I never would've expected such a jewel located in the Tenderloin. Maybe that's why it's sort of hidden! The entrance is a large wooden set of doors with no sign. If you don't walk around the corner you'd never see the sign that's says Chambers entrance around the corner. We came for brunch on a Sunday so perhaps it's a little different coming here during the night, but the service was excellent and the food was delicious! Our waitress was super friendly and after maybe 10-15 minutes of waiting for our order she must have noticed our hunger pains because she came by to apologize for the wait and then offered us a drink on the house! That's not something I experience much, especially in restaurants in the 'Loin. Would've given this spot 5 stars, if the service had been better and our waiter wasn't a weirdo. Spiced French toast. Treat yourself. Two words: bourbon syrup. Your soul shall celebrate. Without even acknowledging us. We finally asked the manager. My husband asked if the biscuits and gravy were veggie after I got a little curious and wanted to try a bite of his dish. He clearly stated to the waiter that I'm veggie. "It's sausage gravy, but you can just scrape it off." WTF. What a mongrel suggestion. So, ignore the weirdo waiter if you get him. Came in for brunch with a couple friends. I love that you can make reservations on OpenTable! We need more brunch spots that take reservations so you don't have to wait hours in line. Chambers isn't in the best spot in the TL; I parked my car on the same block and there were a couple sketchy people chilling in the area. Luckily my car was fine when I finished with brunch. Even though we had a reservation, we still ended up waiting for maybe 10-15 minutes at the front before our table was ready. I believe they have an outside patio area as well, but we were seated inside. It was much louder inside than I expected, which made it harder for us to carry out conversations across the table. I pretty came here for their souffle pancake ($12) which I had previously seen on someone's Instagram account. I was very intrigued by this dish since the pancake looked like a cake more than a pancake. Their menu says that it takes 35 minutes for the souffle pancake to come out, but for us it took closer to 45 minutes. Don't order it if you're running short on time. After waiting for 45 minutes, I was super excited when the souffle pancake finally came out. First of all, it looks gorgeous with the apple chutney and scoop of maple ice cream on top and all the fruits that decorate it. I don't know how to describe the inside other than as very egg-y and custard-like, which was perfect for me but too much for my friend. It wasn't very sweet and relied on the various toppings for the sweetness, which I appreciate. It doesn't look that big, but I was full halfway through and ended up sharing the rest with another friend. In retrospect, I should have just shared it with my friend who also ordered the souffle pancake, since she only finished half of hers. I made the mistake of ordering a side of crispy hash browns and really regretted it when it came out. For $4 you get one flat piece of hash brown. Just one piece! I've never even seen hash browns served in this shape before...It doesn't make sense that their souffle pancake is $12 but one piece of hash brown is a third of that price. All in all, though, I really enjoyed this whole experience and thought the souffle pancake was a great addition to the SF brunch scene! read more

Mmm! Mmm! Mmm! Pork belly in my belly! Per several recommendations my best friend decided to have her birthday dinner at Chambers Eat + Drink last Friday prior to the Macy's Glamorama Fashion show. This was the perfect place to start off our night. This place is a hidden gem. From the outside this place looks sketchy... it is attached to the old Phoenix Hotel in the Tenderloin and the door is on the side of the building. When you walk in however, there is a dimmed, artsy, classy kind of ambiance. We arrived around 6:00pm during happy hour on Friday. There weren't too many tables occupied but the front bar was surrounded by young looking professionals. The menu is short, very short and prices are mediocre. Three of us ordered the Chambers Burger ($12) with pork belly (+$3). The only thing I've tried here is the Chambers Burger but I think it might be the best thing in the menu! All three of us agreed the burger was super juicy and very aromatic. It had a heavy smokey flavor and all the extra fresh condiments complimented the taste. Ohhh and the pork belly... it is a must have if you are ordering the Chambers burger. Without the pork belly... you'll feel cheated. The seasoned fries were a little too salty yet addicting. My best friend had the California Sea Bass ($23). She said it tasted really good to the point where she cleaned her plate- including the sauce. The Truffle and Wild Mushroom Dip was okay, it is served with chips. My friend who does not like mayonnaise was not a fan. Mixed drinks seemed pretty strong and I guess we were there for the Happiest Hour of all because the two beers we ordered did not show up on the tab. Service was really good. I mentioned to the waitress we only had about an hour and a half for dinner since the show was at 8:00PM at the Orpheum (a few blocks away) and she got us out in good time. It same with a cold cucumber salad with daikon and carrots. The brussel sprouts with wonton chips were good too. The ambiance is casual but still yuppie and the decor is great. The most disappointing was the house-smoked pork belly...i wish it was more crispy because the fat just made it really rubbery. *Side of Marble Potato Home Fries: Skip it. Really oily. *Soufflé Pancake (Apple Chutney, Maple Ice Cream & Pomegranate Gelee): THIS is what I came for and I was SO glad they still had this. It's like french toast & pancakes had a baby. Was told to come by- it's a different vibe and set to take you back... way back. And it did. This place has been here for years I've been told. It's a cool restaurant / bar and it has a hotel/ motel attached to it. Haven't seen that before so I like it. Cool cocktails inside as you're surround by vinyl albums or a quick walk to the back ans you can be poolside. We chose the cabanas facing the fire pits. We had our concerns addressed by Conor who was professional and able to handle our issue without a second thought. This place obviously values their customers. Chambers exceeded my expectations. Yes, people know it for the Instagram worthy sign, but the food blew me away. My friend and I shared a few plates, including the ossobuco (amazing) and the pork belly. Our waitress was lovely, and the atmosphere was loungey. I visited when outdoor seating first started opening from covid. Good service, but a bit unorganized. Understandable since they just reopened. Food was okay. Buccatini - my boyfriend ordered this dish. Pasta in a light tomato sauce with Parmesan cheese. He loves pasta but said that this dish lacked flavor and substance. Cauliflower with aioli - I enjoyed the flavor of the aioli. The cauliflower wasn't great. It could've been seasoned better. I feel like I was eating cauliflower I roasted at home. Except the cauliflower I make at home tastes better. Truffle fries - Tasted like truffle fries. The fries on top had a nice texture. Fries on bottom were soggy. Good but not great. Hazelnut cake - this was really good. Warm and not too sweet. I really enjoyed this dessert. I wanted to try the fresh spring rolls but they were out. This place doesn't have any distinctive signs that tell you this is the Chambers Eat + Drink, so it took Mike L. and I a couple minutes to find, but like he said in his review, look for the big brown wooden doors and the giant key. When you walk in, you are surrounded by walls lined with vintage records and the place overall looks pretty gosh darn cool. Dimly lit, spacious with booths everywhere! Chambers has a very speak easy feel to it. For brunch, we got the Japanese Omelet "Tamago" (house-smoked chorizo, sweet potato, cana de oveja, scallions) and Tofu Hash (brussel sprouts, oyster mushrooms, red onions, garlic confit, farro, almond). Both of which were very flavorful and unique...different from any brunch foods I've ever had. I'm not even sure how I would compare it to something else! The "Tamago" was a little sweet but complimented well with the salty chorizo and scallions! The sweet potatoes were very thin and crisp, almost like fried wonton wraps... which gave a nice crunch to each bite! I'm not really that big of a fan on cheese, so that big block of cana de oveja was a little overwhelming. If you've never had cana de oveja, (with my very limited cheese knowledge) it's most comparable to Brie. Tofu Hash in itself was just tasty overall. A bit oily and the tofu was almost tasteless, but it helped balance a lot of the flavor that came from the other foods in the dish. We also added two sunny side eggs to the dish which I thought was the perfect addition - so I recommend that you do add the eggs if you choose the Tofu Hash! I had a good brunch here and would love to come back again! For the dinner menu and for drinks! Maybe even give their $12 bottomless mimosas (with order of a breakfast entree*) a chance too on a random Saturday. c: This is a gem in the Tenderloin! read more

I came to Chambers to celebrate getting sworn into the bar because it was just a few steps away from the federal building. On a slow Thursday evening,the service was very attentive and prompt. I tried the vodka drink - that's literally the name. It was nice & simple and gave a pleasant light buzz without tasting strong of alcohol. However, I was expecting to taste the basil and it was more of a garnish. As for small plates, I enjoyed everything. The smoked grits which come in rectangular deep fried blocks stood out to me most for their unique flavor and great texture. The pork sliders ( actually little pork stuffed dough balls sprinkled with sesame) were delicate and delicious small bites. The pork belly was a bit bland to me, the four tiny pieces came out on a very cool looking platter with coals smoking underneath and the spicy pickled vegetables on the side were tasty. The chicken pate with croutons was also just good. I also sampled the polenta with greens and I did not like the texture or flavor, as there was a hint of bitterness. Overall, I really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. The prices are a bit high but you get good food and good service. I will definitely be back next time I am in the neighborhood. read more

I would LOVE to give this place 5 stars as the restaurant was super nice and had a variety of drinks, ambiance was perfect. Unfortunetely one of the servers was completely out of pocket and so rude! Literally made my jaw drop. (Jazzy was her name) We came with a large group for cocktails before a holiday party that was a few blocks away and also to check this place out for our company to potentially rent out for future events. (We work for a large tech company in DT) It was pouring rain outside and we sat outside in one of the covered cabanas to have our drinks and it was really nice out there. It had a Miami vice type of feel and it seems to be a nice place, especially during summer. As we finished up, we had called the Uber's and we all lingered inside by the bar to wait for the uber where it was dry and warmer. It was fairly crowded as we waited by the bar (as expected on a Friday night) and one of the servers politely asked if we can move to the side, which we did. We had 5 minutes for the uber to come, and that's when jazzy walks over and very rudely tells us servers need to get by and that we need to move NOW! (Mind you we are standing in the spot the last server had told us to wait at) The tone in her voice was extremely off-putting, so we said we can move but you can also ask us a little bit nicer as we are paying customers just waiting for our uber and your coworker just moved us here as we wait for our ride. She replies with, "do you need me to show you where the front door is?! Move out of my way" and shoves herself by us to go to the kitchen. All of us in the group were shocked, especially given that we came here to scope this restaurant out for future events for our company to see if it'd be a good fit. We honestly debated complaining to a manager but we had our rides arriving soon. We obviously will not be returning now given how rude she was and will definitely not be renting out any spaces for future events with our company here after this situation. I typically HATE writing bad yelp reviews, but this needed to be called out as it was extremely unprofessional. Prior to graduating college, I waited tables and I completely understand how busy and stressful it can be. I understand if she would have just asked us politely to move and politely tell us the servers need to get by...but the fact that she added the, "do you need me to show you where the front door is?! Move out of my way," took it a step too far. Funny thing was a separate party witnessed the whole thing and commented to us how rude that was of her too! I couldn't of ran out faster and had the nice lady in the front give me the name of the ride server. UPDATE: It has not even been 12 hrs and one do the servers Stephanie has responded privately to me with a response that clearly shows the type of character/server she is. (Screenshotted and added the photo to this) As you can see in other reviews from other customers, Stephanie must be stellar at her job. (LOL) clearly poor service is common with this server. Claiming for me to be empathetic as we are being pushed out by another server as it's pouring rain outside after spending hundreds of dollars here because we are waiting for our uber. Especially given that we were waiting in the area that the other (polite) server had asked us to wait. What an absolute nightmare and management here should really take a look and have a serious conversation with employees at how to treat and react to customers. This is the service industry and I have eaten and reviewed HUNDREDS of restaurants and have NEVER been treated this way. (Take a look at my other reviews for example and I think it gives a clear example that I highly dislike putting down restaurants unless it is absolutely deserve it. I've been here several times DINNER - Great place to sit down and dine in a nicer setting. Great ambiance, great service and very good food. Flavors are on point. Brought a girlfriend here for her birthday and we had a great time. Nice selection of well priced wines by the bottle. DANCING - Music starts after 10:30 and the restaurant area closes so the bar area and can become a dance floor - Its hit or miss. We were on our way to a highly rated yelp brunch spot when we stumbled onto Chambers. There was a group in front of us that went in here. The doors were heavy and it was mysteriously dark in there although we couldn't see inside. So. What did we do? Follow them in of course! Inside was this dark lit eccentric space with vinyls lining all their shelves and walls, top to bottom. The playlist was a mix of throwback r&b to funk-hip sounds of today. The seating was a mix of couches with low tables seating, and plenty of communal seating. We sat at the bar while a table became available for us and I thoroughly enjoyed a spicy jalapeño muddled bloody margarita with homemade tomato base. I mean - hello! We were finally seated and salivated looking at the menu. Huevos Rancheros - oh food Jesus. It was amazingly flavored with sunny side eggs, black beans, avocado, hard shell tostada, queso fresco, green and red salsa. This dish did not come with meat so I added a side of pork belly to it for $6. My wife ordered the pork belly dish that came with potatoes and some amazing salsa that blew our socks off. Needless to say, we never made it to our original destination after having several mimosas, several bloody mary's & damn good music. The vibe in this place was so dope and funky. It was exactly what I didn't think San Fransisco could deliver. 2 things: They add an additional $1.50 per person on your tab to ensure health and safety for their staff. And lastly, this spot is in a semi seedy area of the city where lots of unfortunately drug addicts hang out. Chambers has become my go to before shows at the SHN theater or Bill Graham stadium. The location is rough - I use to walk from Chambers a few blocks to the theater. But, it's felt too dangerous each time and I've since taken a 5 min Uber. Once you've made it past the many homeless people standing outside and opened their large, wooden door to get inside it's great. Service is great, drinks and food are perfect. Always order the sizzling wagyu. It arrives sliced, nearly raw on a hot stone, and you decide how long to let it cook. The Brussels sprouts are fried with peanuts, a nice spin on a pretty overdone dish. They have a pool and patio, but it's always been too cold for me to enjoy. read more

Wah! I really wanted to give this place a higher rating but the food and drinks were very mediocre. I met with a few gfs here for brunch and this is what we ordered to share: Torta Cubana: 2/5, $14 - This did not taste nor look like a cubana sandwich. The beige color pulled pork made the sanwhich looks like it was stuff with can tuna. It was totally not pleasing to the eyes and the flavors were bland. Souffle Pancak: 2/5, $12 - This was the main reason why I wanted to try this place. They really shouldn't call it soufflé, custard pancake would be more appropriate.It was totally dense! But the apple chutney with fresh fruits and green tea ice cream paired well with the custard pancake. Japanese Wagyu Croquette Burger: 3/5, $15 - Tasty but the burger was too dry. The fries that came with this dish were good. Pork Belly: 5/5, $15 - This the only dish that didn't suck from the brunch menu. This dish was absolutely declisious and highly recommended. The pork belly had this amazing glazed and the potatoes were crack! The eggs were perfectly soft boiled. And there was this amazing sauce that we dipped everything in it. GET THIS DISH! What a lovely place to come up on for our anniversary dinner! Don't be sketched out by the outside as the interior will amaze you with the little details of movies, to the lighting to the sofas. The amazing sign in the back bar area makes for a fun picture with friends or in my case with your man. We had reservations which we ran a little late to so we hung out at the bar and waited for an extra 15 minutes which wasn't bad at all. So if you plan to come, make reservations and come on time cause it was pretty packed throughout the whole time. Drinks: 5/5 was in love with the wine bottle we got, they go in rotation but we also had some cocktails (summer time and break it down) both were delicious! Food 4.5/5 a little limited in terms of wanting your own plate because the food is so hearty so I would recommend having a bunch of appetizers are sharing those instead. In love with the bone marrow, it was juicy and creamy and just lovely. The patatas bravas were okay so if you can skip out on those. The pork belly and octopus were both exceptionally well made and contained a lot of flavor.
