I frequent the Champa Garden in San Francisco regularly and was shocked to find a location in Redding, CA. Assume they are related, but I didn't do any fact checking. At this time, they have a whole take out system where they bring the food to your parked car in front of the restaurant parking lot. Prices are cheaper than San Francisco which I was happy about. Unfortunately, I do not believe the flavors were on par. The only item I would recommend is the Penang curry. The Champa fried rice with shrimp and duck had a slight sour taste. Pad Thai was lacking life, no colors, no peanuts, just a clump of dry orange noodles with dry chicken. With that said, still glad there's Asian options in the area. read more

We searched for the best Asian restaurant in the area and found it! They have the most requested dishes from various countries. We ordered coconut shrimp, chicken lumpia, pad thai, beef pho with extra tripe and egg noodle, matcha iced tea, and mango sticky rice. Thai, Filipino, and Vietnamese food in all one place, and they did really well preparing the food with authentic flavors. Fantastic! Food and staff were wonderful and a nice ambiance as well. We actually found this through Yelp when vacationing in Redding. We had a quail appetizer (first time trying quail) and shared 2 different curries. Everything was delicious and large servings. Seriously, give them a try! Lunch time fills this restaurant quickly so plan accordingly. Service is always top notch & friendly & the menu is filled with options for everyone, including the vegan in your life. You must try if you're around the area!! I'm always hesitant to try new places, but I'm glad I did. The Lao Vermicelli Noodle Soup was very flavorful and almost tasted like curry. We ordered the Pad Thai with vegetable -- a little dry, but if you add some lime it enhances the dish. The basil fried rice was a little on the lighter side in terms of flavor, but still enjoyed it. Champa Garden is always packed. This time we went in one of the hottest day of the year (100+) and was so glad that the wait was less than 20 minutes. The place is not small but, with so many diners, it did feel a bit small and noisy. Anyway, the hostess and the server were very nice and friendly. As many in our party of 8 were not familiar with Southeast Asia cuisines (except maybe Thai food), the server was very patient to described the dishes and answered all questions asked professionally. Most of the dishes were spicy hot although one could ask them to reduce the spiciness. One word of caution, for those who has hypertension, best to ask them to be easy on the salt because most of the dishes are of full flavors and salty. The dishes were reasonably priced but smaller portion, so order more if you are hungry. Our dinner was good. Everyone was able to try something new. Also, to our surprised they did not automatically add the gratuity to the bill for a party of 8 (as many restaurants would have). They simply said that it was up to the diner; when asked. On a long drive from Oregon, we decided to stop by Redding to rest. I then checked on yelp what restaurant would be open after 8pm and Champa Garden came as an option. We walked in and it was super packed. I really appreciated the honesty of the host big time. She mentioned they were backed up on the orders but we are still welcome to come in and wait if we liked. We decided to sit and wait at one of the smallest tables they had available. Once, there was a bigger table available, we were moved :) The order took about 20 minutes to be ready. We ordered the Thai fried rice, green curry, and pad see ew. Everything was delicious :) The green curry was my favorite! I am not a big fan of curry but this was was extraordinary. Had some unique food here being Thai food and I had the ginger chicken was good , just know it was busy when my boyfriend and I decided to go. The meal was subpar it was good but pricey. During our road trip to Burney Falls, we were super hungry and found this place on Yelp! We tried calling in the number for take out but no one answered so we decided to dine in. When we got there the place was decorated the staff were friendly and boy that place was packed! We were seated immediately and brought water without asking. We decided to order the Thai iced coffee, Chicken Pad Thai, and Champa Sampler. The Thai iced coffee was so strong and so sour I felt like I was drinking death ;( the Champa Sampler and Chicken Pad Thai came out at the same time. Chicken Pad Thai was so soggy and saucy I was very disappointed and wouldn't order it again. The Champa Sampler was delicious. Absolutely great meal! The service was wonderful, answering all of our questions about Thai vs. Laotian. We ended up with the Pad Kee Mao (Drunken noodle) the chicken Thai salad and shrimp spring rolls. Couldn't have been tastier! The flavors bombed our mouths with joy! The peanut sauce was great (my wife loves peanut sauce) and the sticky rice was wonderful. We will return as there were many more things on their menu that we want to discover. Champa Garden is a family owned business and they have two in the Bay Area one in Oakland one in San Francisco. Our spot in Oakland to have Thai food is Champa garden hands-down that can also be said for the Redding location. I have yet to eat at the one in SF. We like papaya salad spicy ,fried tofu with their fish and pepper sauce . And any of the curries . Don't forget sticky rice. read more

A surprisingly good stop along the I-5 corridor just before one venture off into the nothingness north of Redding. As I saw in another review, the Lao dishes are MUCH better than the Thai dishes. Our larb, nem khao tod, and soups were very good -- much better than the Thai fried rice and pad kra pao, both of which were average at best. Other reviewers complained about proximity of tables, other diners, etc. There were no suprises here; it was very standard for a home style Thai (Lao!) place. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious their pho and Laos papaya salad was! My family and I stopped here on our drive from mount Shasta to the Bay Area. I honestly was not expecting much but was blow away at how pungent and yummy their papaya salad was. It was to die for!! 4.5 stars Coming up from the Bay Area, I was surprised that there was a highly rated in Redding of all places. I decided to go (based on the reviews) and called my order in ahead of time. Pad Kee Mao with chicken and Pad See Ew with beef. I pulled into the food pickup spot and before I could even look to get my wallet, they were holding my food next to my door. SO FRIGGIN FAST! And I was probably the delay in the whole process (haha). As for the food, I would agree with all of the other reviews....THE FOOD IS GREAT. I thought all of the flavors of my dish were spot on and it hit the spot. Each dish had a good amount of veggies, meat, and noodles making it a great all in one meal (for those trying to eat a balanced diet). My only complaint is that the food was pretty oily and that the noodles were either overcooked or there was strange choice of noodles, as my noodles were very large and flimsy (but I suppose it could have been the fact that it was take out too). Despite those two minor gripes, I would come back on my visit back to Redding. read more

I was visiting Redding to get some chores done and the hunger was building up in me. My partner and I were looking for something fast and affordable. We also wanted some plant based options. We saw that Champa Garden had fairly good reviews on Yelp and of course we had to try it out. Parking was pretty much anywhere you can find a spot in this small shopping mall. For us, it was on the other side of the mall, wasn't a far walk at all. We were greeted in the front door and asked to pick where we wanted to sit. We sat in the corner and they quickly attended us. Immediately got us water and asked if we wanted another beverage. We picked a Thai tea latte with coconut milk. Bill was our server and he was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I asked for extra condiments which was all brought before the food which is nice. Overall quick and amazing food. The shrimp fried rice was different from other fried rices I've tried. It was delicious and would definitely order again. We got pad Thai with tofu which was a little more on the sweet side (I asked for spice on the side) which is just how I like to. The Champa sampler is the best dish we ordered. Having frequent the one in Oakland, I will say their nam khao was better there because the rice was more crispy. Service was good as well. The not so pleasant--the kasoy and kapiek noodle soups need work. The broth is too watered down and lacking flavor. Of course we were going to treat ourselves to the number 1 rated restaurant in Redding on Yelp after a long day of driving and hiking. Our order: pad Thai with beef, green curry with chicken, Tom yum goong soup and Laotian papaya salad. The pad Thai did an excellent job of balancing sweetness and sourness in its flavor profile, and both my bf and I thought it was the best we've had in a long time. Not crazy about the green curry, skimped on the ingredients and didn't come with rice. The Tom yum goong was fairly diluted and unexciting. Under the suggestion of our server, we chose Laotian style (spicier) over Thai style for our papaya salad and it is NOT for the faint hearted. Our mouths were on fire and the burning sensation travelled down our entire digestive tracts. We eat spice a fair bit and can handle a good amount, but this was just next level. While the papaya salad had good flavor, we couldn't stomach any more than half a plate. Busy, busy place. We waited for about 10 minutes, but many that came after waited for much longer. I loved the flavor of the dish so much, I could of ate this till I got sick it was so good! The portion size was nice and just well done overall.
