Seriously. This refreshing salad is so amazing and flavorful and just feels good to eat. I had # A-7, the Goi Ga which is a salad dish with roasted or poached chicken breast (I'm not sure which they do but it's tender), crisp cabbage, onions, carrots, maybe mint, cilantro (I always get extra cilantro because I looooove it), peanuts and fried shallots on top. It comes with a dressing that adds a bit of sweet and savory yumminess to it. My friend ordered #37 Bun Bo Xao which is stir fried beef, onion, lemongrass, some greens, peanuts and vermicelli and she loved it. The owners make a chili oil that they serve and my friend loves so we bought some - I brought mine home to Randy since I'm a hot pepper wuss. I was near this place when a friend that lives nearby asked me to get some shrimp fried rice for dinner. Sure, I can do that. Looking on the menu the shrimp fried rice was kinda on the expensive, unless around $20 inc tax is the price these days. This better be some damn good fried rice! I get back to my friends house and she wasn't ready to eat right away, so we put the rice in foil and kept it nice and hot in the oven. WE did get around to eating maybe 30 min later. That shrimp fried rice smelled good and I saw the amount of shrimp, good amount! Foe the price, I gotta say it WAS some of the best fried rice I ever had. I had the worst pho experience ever, and honestly, I can't get over how bad it was. First off, the pho itself was incredibly bland--no depth of flavor, just a sad broth with four meat ball pieces the eggrolls were mushy inside. The meat was tough and was still frozen and I was left wondering if they even knew how to make pho! The bowl was made for a child and paid $56! But the customer service? Don't get me started. The staff (the older lady)acted like they couldn't care less. The server barely acknowledged us didn't check in once to see how my meal was, and took forever to bring anything I asked for. I had to wait 20 minutes just to get my check, and when I finally paid, there was no "thank you" or even a smile. It's like they didn't want our business at all. Absolutely unacceptable. A hole in a wall place with low expectations but completely blew me out of the way! The lady that greets you, buses the table, and gives you the check is very plain at first but warmed up to me once I spoke some Vietnamese. Ordered Bun Bo Hue and when it came out, I felt like I was transported back to Vietnam! The flavors were so rich of lemon grass and it had a great spice level to it! The cuts of meat were so tender and delicious. The only downside would be the type of noodles they used. Seems to be vermicelli noodles and not the thicker almost udon type noodle that I'm used to but man does the flavor pop for this dish! I asked what the difference in the two combo Phos listed were (because their menu is a jumbled mess and I had glanced at it for about 35 seconds before she was pressuring me to order) and she said - word for word - "I already told you". And me and my mom immediately lost appetite after we noticed that we were eating a soup brewed ant. Also they'll still charge you for the ant soup. She GENEROUSLY offered half off for "one" soups. Plus she said it's half off for soup and my mom's soup was number 2 (12.99) but discounted for 4.80 which isn't even half of it. (I guess it's half of appetizers 9.99) And I still had to pay for full price another soup that had a ant. Number 5 (12.99) I would understand if ant coming out of one soup. I mean things can happen. Stopped here for lunch before heading out to camping. We had a group of six people. We walked in here and the restaurant was empty. We all had pho and it was alright. What was disappointing was each one of us got one sheet of thin napkin? Can you imagine eating Pho with just one sheet of napkin? I ordered Vietnamese Ice Coffee with condensed milk. It was very disappointing that all I got was just a package of G7 mixed with hot water. If that is what I want, I could have gotten it myself for less than $1. I paid $5 for this? Every place I've ordered pho in Redding has been a disappointment (Champa Garden, Rose Garden, Kanya Market...) because they don't serve the dish with fresh basil. The fresh, pungent and slightly bitter and sweet herb + the twist of lime is what makes pho, well, pho. Walking in, the lady owner of the restaurant was on her phone in heavy conversation in Vietnamese while cleaning bean sprouts. So far, so good. But then she keeps talking loudly on the phone, while motioning me towards a table in the entirely empty restaurant, and then carries on the entire loud conversation while I look over the menu. She comes to take my order, still talking away on the phone, and barely acknowledges me. I'm Asian, used to poor service, but this took it to another level. She talked loudly through my entire meal, even when it came time to pay. The pho itself was just ok. It tastes sort of alright if you blur your eyes and lower your standards. The bean sprouts and cilantro were fresh. That was the best part of the meal. The noodles were undercooked in a bad way and the wedge of lime was shriveled and dried out and looked to have been cut at least a day before. Weirdest of all was that they had minced up some basil leaves that were clearly blackened and old and sprinkled it on top. This was an effort to release more basil flavor but since the basil was old/ black with slimy edges it made the whole bowl unappetizing. It would have been way better without it. I think it was ~$15.95 for a small bowl, around $17.75 total including a soda. It was probably one of the worst values for a meal I've had in Redding. The older man who brought out my pho was very kind, so I gave one star back for him. Otherwise this would have been a two-star experience. This unsatisfying meal led me to find Thai Hut on Hartnell - the one restaurant in Redding that serves their pho with fresh basil. Their pho is also just "alright" and not amazing in flavor. The hunt is still on for the best pho in Redding! I have been spoiled by the excellent Vietnamese food in the Bay Area and Sacramento, and will get my fix for pho when I'm back. read more

I ordered the #42. It is the the grilled chicken with vermicelli noodles. The flavor of this noodle salad was really good! Not too dry. Had a little spice to it even before I put in the pepper sauce. I love all the vegetables in it: bean sprouts, shredded carrots and daikon, cucumbers, cilantro, and shredded lettuce. I ordered it off the menu that was posted one year ago and it said the dish was $10.99. However when I went in to pay, I gave her a $20 and she only gave me $5 back with no receipt.
