This is not your typical Italian-style pizza that you can find all throughout Astoria as the owner is actually from Turkey. The dough is different, yet still very delicious! Each slice has a thin crust, something that I, personally, prefer and they're made with organic sauce which is nice if that's your thing. I loved that they had Mac & Cheese pizza available as a slice! I haven't had this type of pizza in quite awhile, but Mac & cheese and pizza are my two favorite dishes, so this is the best combo for me. And, I'd like to add, it was good!! We were very happy to see that they had multiple vegetarian slice options available, and all three that we tried were delicious. Oh, and apparently if you buy 3 slices, you get a can of soda or a water bottle for free with it. An added perk, especially since we always split three slices between the two of us. The pizza oh my goodness as soon as I opened the box I should've known it was going to be delightful. The hours are wrong on the Yelp app, they were opened today. They have this great special $5 for two slices and a soda. I had a white slice with a Mexican coke. I was really happy that I did not get sick from their pizza. The vibes in this spot are so friendly. I appreciated the customer service. There were so many different types of slices. I wanted to try the Mac and cheese slice, I saw it last time I was here. I'd definitely recommend this place instead of going to Star Pizza on steinway. The food was really fresh. My first time trying Champion Pizza, I got shorted two items on a delivery order. When I called about the missing item, the lady told me 'I'm so sorry I'll send it out with another driver'. I thanked her and reminded her it was for two of them. She said there was only one on the receipt. When I asked her if she wanted me to send her a picture of the order I placed with the two items she said 'don't sorry I will give it to you even though you didn't order it'. Updated review. I come here for the garlic knots because they are literally the best I've ever eaten. But this is the second time i go pick up a Togo order only to find when i get home that they've given me hard as rock garlic knots. Not the soft chewy product i drive out of my way for. They have a good product but inconsistency is a big no no. What's the point of a go to place if there isn't consistency in the product? What's worse when i was picking up my order a brand new batch had just come out the oven and looked golden tan and soft. Nothing like what i was given. Ordered from this local spot for the first time using the Slice app! Got the White Pesto Pizza and whoaaa baby. It's got flavor. I usually go for white slices because the red sauce is tough on the stomach. But I also love the classics. The crust has a solid crunch but not a "real NYC" crunch. The ratio of cheese to bread is pretty damn good though the amount of oil in the pizza is a little overwhelming. I actually had to break a personal rule and dab it lightly with a napkin. The slice size is great and there's definitely enough food for one hungry NYer. The pesto on this pizza tastes very homemade and unique. Each bite is so rich, I needed to pace myself a bit but the flavors are really satisfying. Not sure if this will be my new go-to but I'll know for sure after a few more orders. I love champion pizza. I really really do. But I'm starting to realize it depends on the location because not all champions were created equally. I was really happy when I found out there was one in Astoria and went straight for their famous square slices. I was expected a sweet sauce and thin crust just like in their SoHo location (their best location) but I did not find that here. I tried their spinach artichoke slice which was just too creamy and liquidy. It really needed a crispier crust to create a texture difference but the crust was more bread/toast like. Same thing with their famous pesto margarita slice. This time the sauce didn't deliver. I had to put a lot of parmesan on there which I normally don't have to do with champion. Their buffalo chicken was pretty good. Good ratios of everything. I got the black truffle mushroom slice for the first time. This one also had a bad crust but the flavors were a lot better. It's basically just cheese, mushrooms, and truffle oil. No sauce. Don't think I would order again, but it was the best of the bunch. I also got their plain cheese slice. This one had a nice crispy crust and great cheese. Sauce was ok but not as good as the other location. I think they do a better job with their triangle slices so go for one of those! The real star of the show was their garlic knots. They were huge, fluffy, buttery and perfect! I was super impressed! And the sauce it came with, the cold marinara was delicious! I ordered a meat lovers pizza for delivery from this place for the first time tonight. It arrived within thirty minutes and the delivery driver was pleasant. The pizza itself was underwhelming. The crust was undercooked & soggy, and there was very little cheese on the pizza. It was just a lump of meats on the soggy crust that slid off because there wasn't enough cheese to hold the whole thing together.
