    colossal shrimp.
    Ruby A.

I'm from the Annapolis MD area so my standards for seafood are higher than a seagull on Red Bull. The shrimp was So fresh I was worried one was going to leap off the plate, file taxes, and start a family. The crab legs? Absolute weapons of mass deliciousness. And the whole Dungeness crab? Let's just say if I ever get stranded on a desert island, I want this crab to be my volleyball companion, because we'd never be apart. Seriously, steam, boil, whatever, but once you cracked 'em open, it was like Poseidon himself whispered, "You chose wisely." I'd been on a failed scavenger hunt across Houston Texas looking for crab legs, striking out left and right, and honestly, I'm now glad I failed everywhere else because destiny clearly led me here. Joselu deserves a medal, a crown, and maybe his own parade. Friendly, helpful, and somehow knew exactly what I needed before I knew it myself. The man is basically the seafood whisperer. 10/10, Annapolis-approved, Poseidon would eat here.

Lou's special Maryland crab cake. So good.
    David L.

We lived in south Louisiana before we moved to Houston and there was always fresh seafood. Whether it was a relative, a neighbor, or a friend, someone was always going fishing in the Gulf. Always bringing home flounder, redfish, and if we were lucky, shrimp right off the boat. There were even people selling fresh shrimp from ice chests on the street. We've never been able to duplicate the freshness in Houston. That is, until yesterday when we stumbled across Champions Seafood Market. Lou ( the owner) was super friendly. We bought a few pounds of fresh off the boat shrimp and while he was wrapping it up, he told us he spent many years in Baltimore as a seafood distributor and made his own crab cakes the way he had them in Baltimore. Not much better on a nice fall day than a Maryland crab cake and I bought three plus his remoulade. I cooked the crab cakes tonight and they were so good, it was almost like sitting on the Inner Harbor on a cool night. If you get a chance, go tell Lou "hi" and buy some seafood - for sure buy a few crab cakes. You won't be disappointed.

Picked up these beauties today! The team and the quality of product at Champions Seafood Market are top notch. I've learned a lot about seafood and how to prepare it from them. I won't buy my seafood anywhere else!

The price was high. Something that I was not willing to pay at the time. I think, next time I'll find some place with better prices.

They were so helpful even after the sale. They put the sacks in my truck bed and even put a five gallon bucket of ice over them for me as it was a hot summer day. Would you suggest I pick them up today or tomorrow?" YOUNG LADY: "I'd suggest you pick them up tomorrow." ME: "Okay I'll be by tomorrow. Thank you!" By me knowing it was a holiday weekend, I wanted to mitigate any risk of them being sold out, so I called again on Sunday morning at 11:19am: ME: "Hello I'm interested in picking up a sack of crawfish today around 1:30pm-2pm. Do I need to purchase them over the phone, or can I just walk in around that time?" YOUNG LADY: "You can just walk in around that time." ME: "Okay thank you, I just wanted to make sure you all would still have them at that time. I will be there around 1:30pm-2pm." I arrived at Crawfish Nick within the time frame that I mentioned above. As I am approaching the garage area, a man gives me an uninviting stare: HIM: "You have a reservation?" ME: "No" HIM: "We're all sold out" ME: "I called and you all told me that I could come around this time" YOUNG LADY: "When did you call?" I proceeded to explain the above phone conversations and was met with oblivion. Somehow there was no recollection of me calling (281) 806-6515 and having conversations with anyone. It was as if I completely made up this story lol. The lack of accountability was appalling. I was then told by another lady..."Well if someone doesn't come and pick up their order then you can get theirs." WHAT??? So you mean to tell me that preordering is an actual thing? That's interesting as this was the question I asked over the phone, and I was never provided that option. The lack of regard and the poor customer service via phone was very disappointing. Make sure you get on their "Reservation/Pre-Order List" prior to showing up or you run the risk of wasting your time.

One the way there, I saw the sign on my left. I wanted to stop by on my way home. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon. The parking lot was half filled. Mainly for other businesses in the strip mall, which has many Asian restaurants, a bank and several small businesses. Looks like there was no vacancy. When I walked in at Hong Kong Food Market, I saw some flowering plants in the entrance area. Walking in the market and saw more. The prices were pretty reasonable. I bought one on my way out. The produce section looked fully stocked, which making my shopping easy and pleasant. The seafood department was my favorite because I saw so many fresh fish and live fish on display as customers picking up the fish. The rest of store is hit and miss. I couldn't find the cashew cookies like other Hong Kong Food Market had. However, the soy sauce section was pretty full. As matter of fact, I like the sauce section better than other grocery stores in Chinatown. On my next trip to this part of town, I would explore more at this strip mall.

I told myself it wasn't the staffs' fault however this last time was very disheartening as the front end staff was incredibly rude. They had advertised acceptance of OTC cards as an S3 store yet upon paying they claimed my OTC card would not work and the lady at the front would not even allow me to try it at the register despite having very limited knowledge of OTC. She then proceeded to verbally create a very loud environment for all of the patrons at checkout. I would not recommend this place in any form especially for seafood lovers as the fresh fish was stored in cloudy water and had a rank smell.

This is apparently their fifth restaurant judging by the name, so they must be doing something right. Since they recently opened, they aren't very busy right now so I was seated immediately and had a very attentive server. The complementary chips and salsa was good: they served a red and a green. The green salsa was the puréed pepper style (not avocado based) and had some heat to it and very good taste. I really liked the red salsa - there's a flavor in there that I can't place but I really enjoyed. They have daily specials, but I went ahead and ordered off the menu: I got an enchilada plate with rice and beans. I got the "Enchiladas al Carbón" which were covered in queso, and had sliced steak inside (if you have ever had "tacos al carbón," then you already know what I'm talking about). The meat was well-seasoned, and I liked the queso, even if it was a little runny. The refried beans were good, but didn't stand out - the same could be said about their rice. The price was fairly reasonable: that meal with a drink was $17, which I would say is the going rate for something like that in these parts. I will definitely be back to try a little bit more of their menu, and I would recommend that you all try it out!
