If you're looking for a place where customers are treated with respect, this isn't it. The biggest problem with Champions Sports Bar isn't the food or the drinks it's the security staff. In my experience, the bouncers were aggressive, confrontational, and seemed far more interested in escalating situations than calming them down. Instead of communicating professionally, they immediately resorted to intimidation pushing patrons and treating people like they were looking for a fight. A good bouncer knows how to read a situation, de-escalate conflict, and make everyone feel safe. Unfortunately, that was the complete opposite of what I experienced. The atmosphere they created was tense and hostile, and it completely ruined what should have been a fun night. I've been to plenty of bars and understand that security has a difficult job. I fully support removing disruptive patrons when necessary. But there's a huge difference between keeping people safe and treating paying customers with unnecessary aggression and disrespect. Management should seriously reevaluate who they hire to represent their business. A few unprofessional employees can completely damage the reputation of an establishment, and that's exactly what happened here. Love this spot, it's been around forever and normally has a great vibe. the bouncers tonight on 7/4/2026 were brain dead to say the least. Specially around 12 am the Native American gentleman at the front and some tool watching indoors showed they do not need to be bouncers for anyone company. They displayed the need to power trip right off the bat with questioning me on if I've had too much to drink. I get off a 12 hour shift and uber there and the guy has the audacity to ask if I'm "okay to go in". First of all, your the bouncer what kind of question is that? I'm clearly not Intoxicated yet he keeps questioning me. Keep in mind I'm there to meet a friend for his birthday and haven't been anywhere else or had anything to drink. The guy finally lets me in after explaining I just got there (obviously frustrated with the unprofessionalism) and really just questioning if these tools are mentally stable enough to be bouncers or not. So I go to complain about the bouncer at the front to what seemed to be like Lenny from mice and men and guy has the audacity to power trip and say he wants to escort me out for telling him his buddy up front was unprofessional and claims I'm "a dumb ass and lucky he hasn't kicked me out yet". My buddies warned me not to ask this guy a what seemed to be a simple question because he was rude to them too. I tell him I haven't had a drink yet and all my friends that he just let in can vouch for me. But he continues to say he's gonna escort me out if I keep "ranting" I'm an ex bouncer at a way nicer spot than champs ever has been no disrespect and with much more going on. so I tell him how unprofessional he's been and my bouncer experience and he backs off finally. Long-time customer, but after tonight I will never return. We were celebrating my cousin's birthday and playing darts when an older patron punched my cousin in the back of the head. Staff did nothing meaningful and told us our only options were to file a police report or give the attacker a "small break" from the bar. Completely unacceptable. Incredibly awful experience. I was out with my family after a celebration of life, and out of the 8 of us, 2 of us were ID'd. One of us being myself (a recent 21 year old), and the other being a 55 year old male. When carded, I was told that it was owner policy that I provide a 2nd proof of photo ID verification such as passport to prove that I am 21 years old since my ID is out of state. Who has 2 forms of ID? I have never heard of such a policy and everyone else in my party of 8 was 30 years old and above. I tried showing my school ID, my debit card, and any other forms of verification with my name on it. The bouncer even said my social security card would work but that doesn't even make sense considering the fact that there is no photo nor date of birth on my social security card. It was such an incredibly rude experience and the bouncer outside was so disrespectful and ignorant to myself and my family when this was supposed to be a positive shared experience between us. We ended up going down to a different bar in Gilbert and I am so glad we were able to give nicer staff and employees our business. I will absolutely never be returning and I hope nobody else does either because the bouncer here is on a power trip. He refused to even bring the owner/manager out after quoting ''manager policy" so I'm not even sure this is real. Hoping that the owners can pull it together to do an entire review of their bouncers/staff as these reviews seem to be a common experience. If this bar gets shut down, I would not be surprised. On our way out, my friend had to pee but per usual, ladies room is packed full with no one in the men's. And since I've got no issue with gender neutral restrooms, I tell my friend to go in the men's, she'll be quick and I'll guard the door for her. "Security" (how was I supposed to know, he was like 5'6" and wearing sweat pants??) starts banging on the door and when I open it he immediately starts screaming, I tell him there were no men in line and that we'd be in and out. He's now accusing that I'd be pissed in there was a man in the women's? (Not at all) and on top of that, now he's calling me a bitch and a cunt. As I walked past the bouncer, I did have a red plastic WATER CUP in my hand that they told me I had to leave there. Without even looking back, I dump out the water and toss the cup over the shoulder. Here comes shortie again telling me now that's I've just assaulted the bouncer, who was twice my size btw, with a plastic cup. Police officers were already outside, and the security guard is now trying to press assault chargers on me, on behalf of said bouncer. After the officer interviews us all, I'm told that I have been trespassed and no longer allowed at Champs for a year, or I'd be arrested. As if I'd ever consider returning. This place perfectly lives up to its 3-star reputation--I've always disliked it, but I got dragged in to celebrate a birthday, and it just reminded me why I avoid it. First off, this place always smells so bad. I don't know what it is, but the vibe is miserable from the moment you walk in. Then the bartender completely overreacted. She asked for my ID, which is fine, but she also carded my 63-year-old dad and his friends, who are also in their 60s. Seriously? I told her I wasn't drinking and was about to get my ID out. Then I casually said, "I'm almost 27" as a way of explaining I never look my age. I clearly know you have to be carded, and I don't mind showing my ID. Somehow, she decided to take that as me having an attitude and snapped back with, "I don't need attitude." For the record, I literally had none. Her unnecessary and rude response to a harmless comment made me decide, "You know what? I don't like the way you responded," so I left. I get that you're doing your job, and I respect the rules, but this is what happens when you clearly hate your job. If you can't handle simple interactions without projecting your bad mood onto customers, maybe it's time to move on. Let's be honest--if I had been sitting quietly in a corner drinking, no one would've cared or noticed. The crowd was pretty diverse with a range of ages and styles from very casual to folks probably looking to end the night. Music and vibe was a little more on the club/hip-hop vibe (which I particularly enjoyed). Great place to take a group of friends and do darts or pool and have a few beers with some good music. read more

I had never been there before so I didn't know that they didn't allow more than one person per bathroom stall. I was just with my best friend so we went together... the owner was insanely drunk and unprofessional. She was yelling at us to get the f*ck out when I hadn't even spent a dime there yet. I had been there for 2 seconds. She told me to read the tiny sign that was maybe 5 by 7 inches that said one person per stall. I kindly explained it was my first time there and I didn't know or see the sign. She just kept yelling get out and was on a power trip. I was embarrassed for her honestly. Me and my boyfriend are visiting Arizona and was told to check out this dive bar. When we first entered and just about to sit down the woman bartender yelled rudely "you can't come in here without your mask!" I forgot mine in the car.. so we turned around and left.. even though the people sitting at the bar didn't have one on. It was more awkward because she yelled at us and when we went to leave we couldn't get the door to open and everyone was watching us struggle to leave. I was kinda pissed about the bartender being rude but thought well I did forget my mask.. so let's try again before leaving a bad review. We went back to the front door and realized it was locked but there was a sign that said enter from the back. The woman who was rude to us was not our bartender and didn't speak to us at all. BUT a man name Preston was our bartender and he was super friendly! He was very energetic and had an outgoing and happy personality. He completely changed our experience here to positive! Love this dive! No food, just booze, excellent bartenders. If you are stuck up and can't accept a little rough around the edges, stay at your typical line in to get in, overpriced night club. There is a patio that I like because Hubby's a smoker and this makes it easy to keep him happy. No heaters outside so it's a bit nippily. Fun place, usually really busy. I went to Champs for the first time last night (06/11/23). Overall, the experience was nice and I enjoyed myself once I was inside the bar; the bartenders were nice and the drinks were very good -- they had a wide selection. However, I definitely recommend that they either speak to or let go the bouncer/ID checker that was there last night. The bouncer last night had a scorpion tattoo on his face. When it comes to my experience with him, the word that encompasses it all was uncomfortable. When walking out of the bar, I tripped and stepped on his foot. Really disappointed. This is a great bar, love the "dive bar" vibe and cheaper drinks. UNFORTUNATELY I will never go back. 1. They leave the door open to the women's bathroom. 2. A friend and I were in a stall together (because that's what girls do) and one of the male bouncers came bombarding into the women's bathroom, shaking the stall door (while I was peeing) and yelling at us that 2 people can't be in a stall at once. I've been a regular at Champs for years without any issues until now. The bar has an excessive number of bouncers for its size space, and they are quite dangerous. Instead of de-escalating situations, they often provoke conflicts and resort to violence without facing any repercussions. My nephew from out of town was beaten up by overzealous security guards for no reason. They were taking someone out, bumped nephew and he said chill. No warning he was choked, thrown to ground and other guards beat him up, took him outside. Called police and was told problem night before and during week. Owner said video broken. Tell liqueur control to report them. Police report filed. Owner said they don't have video its out and nothing happened. Crazy. Never go there dangerous place.
