In the mood to go to a local food truck event at Colt State Park, I had only one craving of a cheesy kind. I knew this was the day to finally try Championship melt. Being as I was really craving some cheese I immediately went for the Stan Hansen, with pulled pork, bbq sauce, cheddar, and mac & cheese. The flavors were amazing as if the bbq sauce was made to go with the mac & cheese. The staff was incredibly friendly and their delicious sandwich satisfied my craving perfectly! I can't wait to try some of their other cheesy goodies in the future! read more

What else can you ask for?Was on a mission to check this truck out during today's Art Festival in Riverside and I wasn't disappointed. So many creative choices but I ended up with the Smoking Gun combo - pulled pork, cheese and BBQ sauce that came with a side of Portuguese beans and coleslaw all for $11, not a bad deal. I've seen this on the menu before with onion rings, but guess it wasn't my lucky day. The pork was very tasty and BBQ sauce was sweet and tangy (wouldn't have minded a little heat in the sauce). The bread was buttery and nicely grilled with still a bit of chew on the inside. The slaw was very fresh and not completely doused in mayo, nice crunch to it. The beans were a tad bit too sweet for my taste but not bad. My bf is Portuguese and as he said just b/c you add chourico to something doesn't make it Portuguese, lol. We still enjoyed the meal as a whole, though. Would love to try their other options at some point, like the Carlito (granny smith apples and bacon) or the Spirit Dragon (buffalo chicken). I got the spinach pie--yup you heard that right, a spinach pie on a grilled cheese! Opt for the pepperoni as an addition bc this pepperoni was crispy like they grilled it first then put it on your grilled cheese, absolutely delicious!! There was provolone, big black olives, garlic, and pepperoni...I wish I tried others as well, this was so worth it! I'm not a huge fan of food trucks. I mean, I get that when you've been out drinking the ability to stumble out of the bar and buy a taco seems like ontological proof of the existence of god. However, I've never understood completely sober people who will drive across town to buy food from a truck because ZOMG FOOD TRUCKS! So when I say Chamionship Melt is awesome, it's because their grilled cheese sandwiches are actually great - not simply great because they came off a truck. I got myself a grilled cheese with peanut butter and bacon in it when they were at Neighbor Days, and it was the best thing I'd had in my mouth all week. That was fairly early in the day, so this isn't just drunk-talk. It was a legitimately delicious sandwich. I never want to eat a grilled cheese sandwich without peanut butter in it again. Championship Melt has ruined me for lesser sammies. I just walked 5 miles to eat a Sith Lord and it was worth it. I've been craving this sandwich ever since I had a bite of a friend-of-a-friend's sandwich at the Iron Pour. He didn't tell me what was in it beforehand, which was a smart move - bacon sounds like a normal thing to put on grilled cheese, but peanut butter and sriracha? Sounds crazy, tastes amazing. The only down side is that they don't appear to be out as frequently as other PVD food trucks, and there is not a lot of advance notice of where they're going to be. I recently went to a food truck festival in Bristol and was very excited to try a grilled cheese from here. I will say the sandwiches are a little pricey, but they are really fresh and come in lots of combinations, so to me it was worth it. I chose the grilled cheese made with cheddar, pulled pork, BBQ sauce, and mac and cheese, and wow was it good! I ordered the "Holiday". I really wanted to get a picture of it to post but as I waited for my husband to order his food, I could no longer put off eating this delicious melt. The holiday consists of Brie, prosciutto, and fig jam. I think that if you've ever had a combination such as this, I do not need to elaborate, but I will. I am not crazy about Brie, but I enjoy it paired with salty and or sweet flavors. This melt gave me the best of both worlds. The prosciutto gave it just the right amount of saltiness and when you thought that was all, you got the amazing sweetness of the fig jam. I truly enjoyed this melt and cannot wait to try others. I've been wanting to try Championship for a while now and today they came to Central High School for our last day!! I ordered the "Carlito" which is a grilled cheese with cheddar, bacon and Granny Smith apples. It was really good. The bread was thick, toasted golden and buttery. The apples gave a great crisp texture and a fresh, sweet taste. The cheese was perfectly melted. It was a unique concept, loved it! Had several other sandwiches to choose from and some cool sides like Mac & cheese and fruity pebble treats. If your in Providence, definitely try to track this truck! read more

I mention the date because the weather that day was truly horrible and we were afraid many of our guests would understandably leave early or not show up. When word spread that there might be a food truck coming (it was supposed to be a surprise) excitement built and everyone decided to settle in to our now crammed house. Having never had one of their grilled cheeses before I was hoping that they would be pretty good.. I was wrong.. They were FREAKING AMAZING!!! As part of them coming, Drew allowed us to choose 3 gourmet sandwiches in addition to the classic All American. We chose One Man Gang (provolone, meatballs, tomato sauce), Spirit Dragon (pepper jack, blue cheese, panko breaded buffalo chicken), and Chokeslam (provolone, parmesan, spinach, and artichoke spread). Our guests were left STUFFED, HAPPY, and agreed that this was the BEST surprise ever! Most couldn't even pick a favorite because they were all that delicious. Great addition to the food truck scene. I have to be honest. I saw them in front of the EandO over on Knight street and thought they were Poco Loco, but although I was stopping for tacos I got a killer grilled cheese instead. The Boom Stick grilled cheese was amazing. Mac n Cheese and ham in a grilled cheese sandwich! I had a slightly modified Piledriver and it was far and away the best grilled cheese I've ever had the pleasure of tasting; homemade chili, sriracha, pepperjack cheese, and hot pepper relish. The perfect choice for a lover of everything spicy. This is but one of many creative options concocted by the equally wacky staff, who are always experimenting with new sandwiches. After a night out at the bars in Providence, Championship Melt is immensely satisfying. An unexpected bonus: they accept credit/debit cards. Perhaps I'm just a novice to food trucks and thought this was pretty novel, but the convenience of not having to have cash on me (which I embarrassingly rarely do) makes patronizing Championship Melt an even easier choice. We recently reserved/hired Championship Melt for a private event - the "after party" of our son's wedding reception. Given that my search for a food truck was late in the game (only about 3 weeks prior to the event) I wasn't sure if reserving one would be possible, and based on reviews Championship Melt was our 1st choice. To our delight, Drew replied to our inquiry quickly with the good news that they were available. And the subsequent communication on logistics, menu choices/decisions, and cost was all very easy. Drew made it all about what we wanted, and the cost was entirely reasonable. The truck arrived promptly that night, nicely prior to the party's start time. Drew and his team were awesome - very friendly and accommodating - and the sandwiches and sides were delicious!! A huge hit for our guests, so many compliments paid!! Grilled cheese food truck? Yes, please. Where was this truck when I was like 20? Because I'm pretty sure this is every college student's dream. Yes, yes it is. Since I don't live in Providence and am long out of college, I don't often get the glorious opportunity to order food out of a truck. Luckily, the people at Brickyard Wine & Spirits in Barrington are geniuses and have food truck Fridays. I can't believe I've been living here for two years and have yet to go. Until tonight! Gourmet grilled cheese and free beer tasting? Sign me up. So, I don't know what Championship Melt's regular menu is or if it changes much but tonight they had a few options. There was the classic grilled cheese, just cheese, with the option to add bacon. Then there was one with chili and Fritos on it. What?! Yeah... That sounds messy and amazing. And there was one with buffalo chicken and Mac and cheese. Annnnd then there was one that stood out above all others. It was calling to me... "the Vader." It said. "Carol, I am your sandwich." (Get it? Like Luke, I am your father? Maybe that only meant sense in my head with the Vader voice.) Obviously I had to order it. What is the Vader, you ask? Oh, you know, just your average grilled cheese... with peanut butter, sriracha, and bacon. Yeah. I thought, hmm I like all of those things. I don't know if I like all of those things together, but I am going to trust the grilled cheese experts and take a leap of faith. And my taste buds rejoiced. The force is strong with this one. OK I'm going to stop with the cheesy Star Wars jokes now. Promise. So just about everything was great with this sandwich, it was really really tasty, the peanut butter was oozing out, the cheese was perfectly melty... It was almost perfect. Almost.. Here is my minor feedback.. I love grilled cheese to be slathered in butter and cooked to be golden brown and toasty. The bread actually was toasted well all around, and texture-wise, it worked. But, in my humble opinion, it needed more buttery, golden crust. I could see where it had been buttered which was not covering the whole piece. I'm sorry, I love butter. I just do. And grilled cheese just needs it. Lots of it. So, overall I loved the Vader, and I definitely recommend checking these guys out. I want to try their other weirdly delicious creations. Wow. Tried it the first time last night and loved it. I went because I read about the peanut butter, grilled cheese sandwich and had to try it. If it involves peanut butter I try it. It wasn't on their menu when I arrived and I asked and they made it for me. Who would have thought that grilled cheese, peanut butter, bacon and sriracha sauce could be so good.
