Geoff's has been a favorite of mine since my days at Classical High in the late 80's and rediscovering it when I worked down the street from their old location back in 2010. Their sandwiches are (to steal a line) superlative! You can get an awesome plain Jane deli sandwich (ie Turkey sub, ham & cheese, corned beef, etc) OR go through the literal DOZENS of concoctions of their signature sandwiches...you can't lose! Tucked in on South Main St now down by the pedestrian bridge, you can people watch the pedestrians (usually coming & going from either financial district/Downtown or the court houses as you await your culinary masterpiece to arrive)...you won't be disappointed! My current faves are Jen & Berry or The Juggs; but I have never had something that wasn't pleasing. There are long tables, so if you are by yourself or a small party & it is packed, you might have to share; but don't look at it as a drawback...look at it as connecting with a fellow human being(s). read more

The choices seem endless, but we finally selected: * Rachel * Roger Williams (hold the onions and tiger sauce) The former is a perennial favorite while the latter was a new choice. The Rachel was excellent, as usual, with tender pastrami, and nicely melted cheese. I also liked the Roger Williams which had a tasty stuffing. It was a huge sandwich, warm and nicely toasted. We've been to Geoff's a couple of times. The Sandos are good, especially with a pickle. Realistically they are v expensive for what you're getting, but sometimes you really just want a good sandwich. The service is always good and they have a bunch of good tables to sit at. Great location too. read more

First of all the menu is huge, so many sandwiches options and on top of that you can build your own. I loved the names of their sandwiches, and each one was very unique. I tried one of the turkey sandwiches which wasn't bad, but it felt like the combination of ingredients was a little off. I never thought I'd be writing a review like this, but people deserve to know what goes on here. I was fired out of nowhere through a TEXT, no warning, no conversation, nothing. I was one of the hardest workers there, always showed up and did my job, yet they kept employees who barely worked. That's how this place is run. The biggest issue isn't even how they treated me--it's the cleanliness. I've personally seen roaches, rats, and mice. Hair has ended up in the meat because people using the slicer don't even wear hair nets. Workers eat slices of meat while they're prepping food that's supposed to be served to customers. It's honestly disgusting. The management is completely unprofessional. They gossip about employees behind their backs and then suddenly get rid of people the second they don't need them anymore. They don't give employees the respect of a proper conversation or even notice--they'll just send a text and that's it. If they treat their employees like this, imagine how much they care about food safety. I wouldn't recommend eating here until they seriously clean up both the restaurant and the way it's managed. read more

I worked at Geoff's under Wyatt in the early 90's. It was a time when the sandwich shop was a vibe and the staff would improv like you were stepping into a comedy store. The sandwiches were outstanding and we took great care into giving customers an experience when they walked through the door. Today I took my teenage son to the new owned and moved off Benefit location after years away from RI. Such a disappointment. The shop has lost its soul. The location looks cheap from the paint on the walls in the service area to the discount signs you would buy at Micheal's to state the different types of bread. The staff were droll and appeared disinterested to being there. It felt like I was going to a fancier Subway. As for the sandwiches, I was pleased they are still steamed, but with a quarter of the meat and cheese these sandwiches used to be known for. All in all, sub par. As my husband said, "Well, we itched that scratch. We don't have to come here again." What a shame this legacy has lost its way. For sure will not repeat a visit again. I have been gobbling up scrumptious sandwiches from Geoff's for the past 40 years! They are just as delicious as the first time I stepped into the tiny shop at the old location. Sandwiches, so many with funky names, are always stuffed with fresh ingredients. The service is prompt and very professional. Plenty of convenient street parking, a variety of different seating options plus a kiosks if you prefer to electronically send your order. I've been there so very many times over the decades and I always sit there contemplating all the sandwich choices. Hope to see you there. Made a short day trip down to Pawtucket/Providence to visit some friends. Ended up going to Geoff's Superlative Sandwiches. As soon as you walk in, you realized you've got some choices to make. With 3 large sections of wall (floor to ceiling) listing all their premade sandwich options, there's bound to be something for everyone, and if not, you can build your own. Though they break it down into categories (meat, fowl, fish, meatless, and others), it can certainly be overwhelming. Though they had many great options, their method of naming the sandwiches doesn't make it very easy to decipher. So unless you've been before, you'll have read through many of the descriptions to find what you may be looking for. I got the "J Savage" in a superlative roll, which is basically a Buffalo chicken sandwich with honey mustard, blue cheese, Swiss and avocado. The superlative roll was a bigger bulky roll, very soft, though maybe a bit more bread than the rest of the ingredients. If I got it again, I'd go with the standard bulky roll, to get better ratios. But the staff was friendly, and once we'd placed our order, the food came out quickly. The J Savage use large chunks of chicken tossed in Buffalo sauce, and other flavorful ingredients, very tasty, but again, perhaps not the right ratios for the superlative roll. This place has a huge selection of sandwiches and line that typically goes out the door. After eating here twice, I'm baffled by what makes this place so great. Maybe I'm ordering the wrong things, but for about $11 a sandwich, I'd expect a bit more substance. I've had the Italian and The Gagger and both were lacking actual protein and the Gagger was so poorly made where almost half the sandwich was bread and spread. There should be more meat for the price! The only thing I'm gagging on is all that damn bread with no meat! Also, the bread options... be clear on these. You have to ask and they point at things similar in size. Either standardize or show examples or something. read more

Awful. Couldn't have messed the order up more if they tried. Mayo on side = dripping with mayo.. it literally looked like they added a quarter of a cup of mayo in between every single slice of turkey. BLT Toasted = not toasted. Ordered chili, no chili. Beyond that: portions were awful. The BLT basically looked like half a sandwich when you took it out of the bag and weighed so little I thought the paper it was wrapped in was empty when I pulled it out of the bag - for $12. The bread was miniature and the sandwich was 1/2" thick. It should've had more than one tomato slice that was white and crunchy on it, too. Still trying to figure out this math... the girl at the register asked if we wanted the free pickles. I said "sure yes please!" She asked, "one or two?" I said "well, it's four sandwiches for four people so a couple for everyone would be great." She handed me the bag and said "great, I gave you five." (?) Cute chalkboard menu and space - beyond that absolutely all show and zero on execution, attention to detail. The funny thing is I heard the two kids behind the counter talking and once said "was this supposed to be mayo on the side?" and the other one said "no I think they wanted it on top and on the side". Actually, they didn't .. and you didn't give it on the side anyway - just tons in between every single slice of turkey it's not like it was just on the bread and you could scrape it off. So gross. I'm not kidding. I heard one say to the other "oh this is supposed to be toasted?" so they questioned themselves out loud yet never toasted it. Just bad - and I never leave bad reviews. I've been meaning to check this place out for years...then I moved away...and years added on some more. OMG, I was missing out. This was located right on South Main Street. Parking was metered and on-street. We were walking and exploring and happened to stumble upon the shop, which was perfect because I've always wanted to try out their sandwiches. The service was quick and friendly. The decor was rustic and there were plenty of seats/tables. I loved their huge menu on the wall and the mostly Rhode Island theme names of the sandwiches. They have over 90 recipes and you can customize the sandwiches as you'd like. This time I tried out the "Jen and Berry" on rye; this comes with chicken salad, melted Muenster, lettuce, onions, mustard, cranberry sauce & sweet basil. Oh My Gosh. So Darn Good. The flavors intermingled so perfectly together; I wasn't a fan of their pickles but people seem to love them. I had the Dirty Potato chips with funky flavor and Empire root beer, those were great too. If I lived in RI again, I would be there weekly. Best sandwiches, best counter staff I've been coming to Geoff's since the 80s. In the intervening years, the snark level has gone down (no more "we reserve the right to serve refuse to anyone" sign... did that sign inspire Talking Heads to write Psycho Killer which was recorded above the old Geoff's location?) The food quality has continued to be spectacular. The meat is fresh and tasty. The bread is amazing. The toppings and menu variety is out of this world. The staff knows their sandwiches! "Would you add onions, tomatoes, or both?" Is always met with a thoughtful response. Most places fail to live up to memories... Geoff's is the exception because it's exceptional! read more

Before boarding a train from Rhode Island to New Jersey, my friend offered to buy me lunch. Wanting something easy to eat on the train, we ordered sandwiches from Geoff's Superlative Sandwiches. I ordered the David Cicilline sandwich on a superlative roll. The roll was soft and held up well to the amount of ingredients in the sandwich (meats, cheese, onions, peppers, etc.) as well as the oil and vinegar. I understand that this is primarily a lunch place and I stopped by to pick up dinner so the staff can be forgiven for being less than friendly. But they were angry that I ordered food. And I was not the only customer there so it wasn't like I was stopping them from going home. The restaurant itself stunk of cleaner; overwhelming and oppressive. After I ordered the cashier/server disappeared for a good while and was unsmiling/unfriendly throughout. The food itself was fine. I didn't enjoy my roast beef/Patsy Cline as it was generally bland. However, I tried some of the and french fries and the rueben and those were good. Basically they were saving grace of the whole experience. Otherwise, I don't have much good to say. On to price: although the portions were sizeable, nowhere does it claim to have "fresh" "organic" "local" or what have you ingredients to be as expensive as it was...and for 3 sandwiches and an order of fries... a very small order of fries by the way. read more

I went to Geoff's on a quiet day over my work's holiday break for a quick bite. The menu is huge and can be very overwhelming, but there is truly something for everyone. I opted to get a tuna sandwich that had banana peppers, balsamic, sprouts, tomato, cheese, and bacon. It seemed like a crazy combination to me, but it was so good! I ordered my sandwich on the superlative roll and it was a large portion. I ate half of the sandwich and saved the other half for later. You order with one staff member and then move down the counter where another person checks you out at the register. They also offered complimentary pickles, which is the key to my heart! The location & interior of Geoff's are probably the two best parts. Right down makes this place highly walkable & inside is large & open making it easy to meet up with friends for lunch. I usually am against looking up a menu & deciding what to order before visiting I highly recommend it for your first visit to Geoff's as the menu is large & can be intimidating if you aren't prepared. The superlative roll was delicious & the best part of the sandwich. Unfortunately I found The Providence Monthly to only be fine. There wasn't enough chicken compared to the amount of lettuce & sauce & I found the sandwich to not be filling enough because of it. First time in and we ordered three different sandwiches. We got a traditional Rueben on rye which was very good. Only complaint was that it's not very big if you're super hungry. I ordered a roast beef with provolone and really liked it. The bulky roll is just a round soft bread which is a really nice flavor. The picture is of the chicken George. It's a chicken salad sandwich but my husband wasn't a fan of the consistency at all. It was almost a spread versus chunks of chicken so that was a miss for him. My son and I stopped in to this awesome sandwich shop for an early dinner. I had a tuna melt on a fresh bulky roll, lettuce and tomato, chips and dill pickles. Fantastic. My son had a ham and cheese on a torpedo roll with potato salad and pickles. He was extremely satisfied. The owner was in the restaurant and made his feelings of appreciation known to us by thanking us for patronizing his restaurant. Very rarely has that ever happened to me in an eating establishment. The sandwich menu is written in chalk on an entire wall before the ordering station. So many options! My estimation is there were between 30-40 sandwiches all with bread and add on options. I had never heard of this place until recently and once I discovered they had a thanksgiving sandwich I knew I had to try it. I got the "Roger Williams" (turkey, stuffing, bacon, cranberry, sprouts, lettuce, onion, tomato) on a spinach wrap to-go and it was amazing. I cannot attest to other menu items as I will forever only order this sandwich, but I promise you will not be disappointed if you try it. Service is fast. I didn't interact much with the staff other than ordering. Inside, it's casual, first come first serve seating. You order at the counter then grab a table and wait for your food. Had a pretty good tuna sandwich from here! The tuna tasted fresh and not too fishy, the way I like it. I took mine to go, and ate half on the walk which was not bad at all! The second half was a little soggy on the roll when I got home but I still enjoyed it. The inside was very large with lots of seating, good light, and comfortable sitting areas. I thought the huge menu was really fun, but since I don't eat meat there's not too many more for me to try. However the Steve's Cascione (tuna, spicy mustard, pepperocini) is my favorite way to eat tuna salad so I was happy :) I also witnessed a very angry customer come in and berate the staff for making a mistake on her order. To be fair I wasn't there when she ordered, so whether or not they were careless with her order I can't say, however she was very angry and the cashier (maybe the manager??) was pretty calm with her, issued the refund, and no scene was made. For one of the 1/2 Alan Shawn Feinstein sandwiches, the sandwich was falling apart and it was a little messy to eat. The other 1/2 of the sandwich was better put together. The bread and ingredients tasted fresh. The Banzini Brothers was good too, but the mustard wasn't too evenly spread so some bites were heavy mustard. Service was quick and people are constantly coming in. The sandwich was fulfilling. There are plenty of tables to sit down and enjoy the sandwiches. Honestly I was underwhelmed by my visit to Geoff's. The sandwich menu is HUGE and awesome, but the sandwiches are a bit pricey for what you get. I had the Roger Williams (basically a Thanksgiving sandwich) and it was poorly assembled. Just a huge lump of all the ingredients in the middle (the sandwich bulged in the center) rather than properly spreading the stuffing out a bit more. I also thought the spicy addition to this classic sandwich flavor profile was a little bizarre.
