"Frozen Meat, Lukewarm Service, and a Buffet That Could Use Some Fire Support" The veggies on Chang's Mongolian Grill buffet were plentiful and fresh -- colorful, crisp, and begging to be stir-fried. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the "meats," which looked like they were flash-frozen sometime during the Korean War. The beef was thinly sliced, yes, but frozen nearly solid and chewier than a boot heel after a 100-mile march. For $17.95, I wasn't expecting Kobe beef, but I was hoping for something I could bite through without dislocating my jaw. The sauce selection was solid -- soy, garlic, chili oil, the usual suspects -- but no amount of flavor could hide the frostbite in that protein lineup. The grill guy did his job with military precision, but the end result was more MRE reheated on a Humvee hood than authentic Mongolian stir-fry. Service? Functional. They kept the water glass full and cleared the plates, but smiles were in short supply -- maybe they're frozen too. Not rude, just not friendly or welcoming. If you're looking for hospitality, you won't find it here. Bummer. Had the meat been leaner and easier to chew, we might have considered a return mission. But this was a one-and-done operation. For $18 a head, there are plenty of places in town serving food that doesn't require a combat knife to cut through. CombatCritic Gives Chang's Mongolian Grill 5 Bombs Out of 10 ... Great food and no line.

Another great trip to Chang's Mongolian Grill. The food looked very fresh and tasty today. The thing I like about it, you can choose your own food to be cooked. The items, the amount and the final flavoring is all up to you. If you don't like it, it was you that did something wrong. Today my food was cooked to perfection and I enjoyed every bite. Until next time!

People either love it or hate it--I think this place is great. Not a destination, night out or date, but just good, healthy food at a good AYCE price. You control the oil, sauce and all that goes into your food. I love it for a weeknight dinner, even to-go. For $21, I get at least 3 meals. Selections are not extensive, but more than enough meats, which are frosty or frozen, but raw on a buffet, I think it's a plus, think how you buy hot pot meat and such. Veggies are fresh and lots of options. I do wish that they would expand their noodle game--but probably would be hard to do rice or other on the grill. Service is a mixed bag, but I usually get to-go, and always super friendly and ready to help get bagged up with the soup and rice wraps. I recommend, again, as a casual, no frills place. And it's a self-serve buffet...so help yourself, folks!

Total rip off! Charging good customers $7 for a half quart plastic container. We only went through the line one time and had some left overs...come on man we paid for it and wanted take it home what a rip!!!! They charge $7 per small half quart container!!! So be prepared to throw all your left o ers in the trash!

This place is a carb coma waiting to happen - the authentic Mongolian experience. Five stars! Save your shower for after you eat.

We went here for my daughter's birthday. The staff was nice and friendly, and the food was tasty.

I was disappointed, they have discontinued carrying tofu. Also they only brought 4 wraps for 6 people, which seems on the cheap side

There are booths where you order food to come cooked, and then the hot pot tables where you order the ingredients and cook them yourself. It's very interactive, and they have plenty of meats, vegetables, tofu, dumplings and noodles. You can choose the broth you want at the beginning and they'll bring out the pot. Each pot is split in 2, so you order one regular broth and then a spicy broth. They also have a veggie broth, which I really enjoy. You can grab things from the salad bar, and they have different sauces/oils you can take and add to your soup. You're able to really customize the experience. It's a fun little experiment you get to do with your friends and family. The space itself is busy with customers walking around and staff brining drinks and food, but it's not crazy. We joke that the steam from the soup is a nice facial treatment. Lol. You can end the night with an ice cream cone and lollipop in the waiting room. I've been a few times, and I will say the first time is overwhelming with trying to figure out what to do, but after that you get more confident and interested in curating a soup that's to your taste.

Even though there were plenty of larger tables available, we were told we had to squeeze into a small dirty booth. The pink/red-haired male employee and the girl with glasses who seated us were rude as hell and acted like we were an inconvenience instead of paying customers. Their attitude alone made us decide to leave without ordering. We've enjoyed coming here for a long time, but this experience changed our minds. Management really needs to address the customer service from those two employees before more loyal customers walk out like we did.

I am, as I've said many many times, a huge fan of Chinese food. And to see the coverage of this tiny little restaurant with the hand pulled noodles, my head exploded. I knew that if I ever got to Portland and had some time, I would find my way here. This was that weekend. I walked in and it was just before the lunch rush, so the restaurant was empty. I asked for, and was granted, the opportunity to stand in the doorway of the kitchen and watch them pull noodles. It was really cool to see. My friend and I were seated and it was minutes before we got fed. He wasn't feeling very well so he just shared some of my soup, but I dug in and tried to cover the entire menu as well as I could. I ordered the steamed dumplings with pork and scallion, the wonton soup and the pork and black bean hand pulled noodles. Everything was amazing. The texture of the dumplings... The rapper... Was just amazing. Tender but chewy and thick enough to give you just the right consistency that you want from a dumpling. Conversely, the wontons from the soup were perfect for what they needed to be. Thin and delicate, with a perfect amount of filling. And the broth was so tasty. Of course, the star of the show was the noodle dish. Chewy and delicate, with enough texture to hold the sauce. And the black bean sauce was pungent and sweet, with just enough spice and flavor to make you enjoy every bite. It was really a perfect meal. And I hope to get the opportunity to go back again someday. There were so many things on that menu that I wanted to try.
