Chanhassen Dinner Theatres is one of the last remaining dinner theatres in the United States and it the largest dinner theatre in the country. CDT has been open since 1968 and has been the launching pad for many actors who have become famous. It has several stages and the main stage is the one that has the dinner theatre. I have been to this theatre dozens of times over the years. The show that I saw recently was Guys and Dolls. CDT tends to present the classics, but does there own updating and choreography. This musical had a live orchestra. The shows at CDT are very high quality and to me are equivalent to the theatres in Minneapolis and St. Paul such as the Orpheum and the State Theatre. The quality of actors is excellent, as is the production value of the shows. Show-only tickets may be reserved no earlier than ten days prior to a Main Stage performance date, based upon availability, so let's talk about the dinner part of the dinner theatre. Honestly, this is not exactly their strong point. However, the value of the dinner is stated to be $22, which is not exactly a very large amount. The most famous choice is the Chicken Chanhassen, which I think is very good. You can order extra drinks, dessert, etc. and that is where their profit margin lies. We have been here many times for concerts and shows. The concert venue is nice and brings in great bands; i.e. The Fabulous Armadillos. Shows vary but they tend to pick oldies like Grease too often. I remember seeing Shirley Valentine here decades ago when they took more risks. They do have a drag brunch monthly so that is something. Parking can be challenging for the concerts. On concert night there was a wedding, concert and Guys and Dolls. Maybe a comedy show too. Very packed. Show parking is good because you arrive earlier. The food is very standard. My husband and I celebrated his 30th birthday here, and we had an amazing time! Our server was very attentive and the food was pretty good. My steak was unfortunately pretty rare when I asked for medium rare, but my husband shared his with me which was cooked perfectly. I enjoyed the mousse dessert we ordered, though it was a little small for the price. As for the show, we saw Guys & Dolls. It was energetic, fun, and the actors were incredible! Our group of four visited Chanhassen Dinner Theatres last night to see Grease, and we had an absolutely wonderful time! Grease is a classic, and we were all excited to see how CDT would bring it to life and they did not disappoint. We arrived just before 6:00 PM for dinner (seating starts at 5:30), and the parking lot was already bustling. After a short wait in line, we were ushered to a cozy booth with a great view of the stage. Service was prompt--waters came quickly, and our server, Coty, was friendly, efficient, and attentive throughout the evening. We started with the Sampler Platter and the Roasted Garlic Hummus--both were delicious and generously portioned. For entrees, three of us chose the Grilled Top Sirloin, while I went with the Boneless Chicken Tenders. The meals came with a fresh side salad and a warm roll. Everything was cooked well and flavorful--and I even had leftovers to enjoy for lunch the next day! Before the show began, Coty took our dessert order so it could arrive during intermission. We shared the Chocolate Cake for Two and the Blackberry Cheesecake, along with some fresh coffee. Both desserts were rich and satisfying....the perfect intermission treat. The performance itself was excellent. The cast brought so much energy and added humor to the show, making it feel fresh while still honoring the spirit of the original. CDT consistently delivers high-quality productions, and Grease was no exception. Overall, it was a fantastic evening filled with good food, great company, and top-notch entertainment. Chanhassen is still decorated for Christmas and we enjoyed the women's clothing shop and gift boutique before we sat down to eat. Bria! What a sweetie! She took orders for the four of us, all of whom ordered the famous Chicken Chanhassen. 13 million people served since 1968. Who knows how many million of those ate Chicken Chanhassen?? Delicious! The beauty and nostalgia of the sets, the music and the dancing and singing for "White Christmas" overwhelmed me. I cried at the end. Hope it's back next year! read more

Group of 6 had a great time. Good drinks, good food , and good play ( Guys and Dolls ) The Channhatton was very good. Only one bartender so he go backed up just before the doors opened. Parking is easy and free, free coat check, got seated with a couple ladies from my boyfriend's hometown (small MN) and had a grand time talking during the meal. Had the chicken which was lovely and included loads of "seasonal veggies" and came with rolls. Our coffee and soda came to $3.27 but they give you the suggested price of the meal ($44) to tip off if. The servers are super running around busy and will not hover for sure. My coffee took quite a while and the cream to go with it was forgotten and I had to hunt someone down to get it for me. We came as a family of 6 as a Christmas gift for Mom, and she really loved it (the most important part). The entire experience took 4.5 to 5 hours! We came at 5pm, were promptly seated upstairs for a sit down dinner with tablecloths and cloth napkins. Then, it was time to move to the theater for the show. At intermission, we had dessert and settled our bill, before continuing the show. It's not my typical cup of tea, but I'll share my opinions anyway. Ambiance (2/5) Outdated, but it may fit their target customers. We sat in the balcony area and had the best view of the choreography. Service (5/5) Excellent service the entire night. Show Production (4/5) We saw "White Christmas". The cast was pretty good. The story started slow, but it ended nicely. Live Orchestra (5/5) Amazing sound quality! They were perfect. Food (3/5) Make sure to read some reviews and check out some pictures before you order. Food could have been better, but we don't really come here for the food. Drinks (4/5) SO many options and many of them were delicious! From Baileys Hot Cocoa, to Wine and Margaritas, it seemed they had all the options. Diversity (1/5) I was completely shocked that the cast and staff at Chanhassen Dinner Theater seemed to have ZERO Asian representation. I noticed a few African Americans and possibly some Latino representation, but not nearly enough to represent the local population. As someone who values inclusivity and sees the importance of representation in every space, it was SO disappointing. A theater like Chanhassen has such a big platform--they can and should do better. If you haven't seen Grease at Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, do yourself a favors and go! It was amazing. So many laughs and my cheeks hurt from smiling. The actors are so talented and are clearly enjoying themselves. Our dining experience was wonderful as well. Our waiter (Kevin?) was very helpful and attentive. I had the tortellini with shrimp skewer and I also drizzled the Gorgonzola sauce, delicious! Our waiter recommended the artichoke dip which was my favorite of the three apps we tried. I wasn't a fan of the bruschetta, it had olives mixed in with the tomatoes, just not my taste but others on our table enjoyed. It is crowded in the main theater but i was overly uncomfortable. We mostly attend concerts at their FIRESIDE theater. They do a great job, very friendly staff, not a bad seat in the house. The cover bands are awesome. I love supporting conservative businesses, they're in Carver which is GOP territory. My kind of people. The only thing I'd like to see is the bulk ticket purchases, if you purchased 4 concerts the 4th on was free, that helped make the overall ticket prices more reasonable. This was our first experience at chanhassen dinner theatres. We went to the comedy show and were wonderfully impressed and laughed our butts off. It's all improve with fun skits that get the crowd involved. It was very hilarious and entertaining! Tickets for just the show are $28 and for twenty dollars more you can get dinner. There's a large parking lot and also a small parking ramp available. It gets busy since they run multiple shows/events in the same night. It was easy to find our show because they have workers to direct you to where you need to be. Dinner was served before the show. The main entrees are included with your dinner ticket but you can select appetizers and add ons for extra. The food was pretty average, nothing too impressive but not bad by any means. They had some fun cocktails we tried and enjoyed. Dinner was around 6pm and the show starts at 8pm and goes till 10pm. It was a great experience for us. Next time we will probably skip the dinner and come to the show. All the seating was in view of the stage and it didn't feel too cramped in there at all. read more

We visited the Chanhassen Dinner theater and had an amazing time. Specifically the Stevie Ray's Comedy Cabaret, the environment was intimate and it was a improv troupe was very involved with the audience. The wait staff seemed a little overwhelmed but their were two large parties and besides a small wait to get drink orders in they were phenomenal. We arrived about an hour and a half before the show started (6pm for a 7:30pm start) this gave us a good amount of time to eat out food and talk with the people at our table. Once the show started the wait staff was invisible, in the best way possible. I have never experienced this before but my water cup was never empty. You will be WELL hydrated if you visit the Chanhassen. All in all I had a wonderful time during and after the show. The performs were so kind, the food was tasty and the atmosphere was electric. Recently went to Prom at the Chanhassen dinner theater! The service was soooo great! They were helpful with questions about the menu and very clear about timing of when the food would arrive before and mid show. I loved the Atlantic salmon with smoky red onion & poblano glaze, wild rice pilaf and grilled asparagus. I would recommend the salmon!! It wasn't overdone and the glaze was the perfect addition. For appetizers, we ordered the sampler platter which included coconut shrimp, mozzarella sticks, pot stickers and artichoke dip. Dessert I had to go with a yummy mint shake! We attended the Sunday Drag Brunch and were pleased with the entire experience. The brunch menu was limited but we understand why. The French toast bake was delicious. The wait staff were all wonderful. The entertainment was phenomenal. The host made great jokes that felt impromptu and quite hilarious. Add in a slice of bacon and your free burger lunch costs $4-5 more. The menu is very pedestrian, think roadside diner style food. Don't let the "dinner theater" part throw you as everything other than your basic entree is going to cost more. Water is available but drinks are at a premium. The servers here seem to be overtaxed, running from table to kitchen, we see ours every 5-10 minutes but she's very good. She is covering a lot of diners. Tables seat six, so if you are a couple you will be seated with others. The decor is tired, chair upholstery and carpets could use a refresh. It's a good place to see a show, I find the dinner part of the deal only frustrates me. It's a stand alone facility with lots of parking. Set expectations appropriately and the Chanhassen Dinner Theater can be a fun night out! The dinner part is a 2, theater experience is a 4, together they are a 3. Just learned there is a mandatory $20 server gratuity on your dinner bill. Unfortunate as this means their servers are probably underpaid too. CDT is an interesting place to review. What's the focus of the place? Certainly the entertainment. But at the same time, it is a ":dinner theatre" so there is some expectation that the whole package would make for the experience. That being said, having been here a few times, the whole package misses the mark a bit. First, it should be said that the service and atmosphere is quite nice. It would be nice to have private seating for couples, but I understand there's a desire and need to get as many folks in the space as possible. So, take note, if you are a party of two, you will likely end up at a table with four others if the show is sold out. There is half circle booth seating, but take note that the seating looks pretty tight for a larger person. You are seated by a host/hostess and then quickly greeted by a server to get your meal started. The meals from which to choose are of a good variety. Included with the ticket purchase is a selection of about a dozen options for your entree. Appetizers, add-ons, drinks, and desserts cost extra. There are also a few upgrade options for an entree. I decided to go the route of an upgrade and ordered the prime rib as the waitress said she really liked it. I was disappointed. The prime rib was medium rare as I ordered it, but had little flavor and was lukewarm. The sides of two baby red potatoes and green beans were also lukewarm. Overall, from the basic side salad and rolls to the entree, the meal was lackluster. The cocktails were ok. There is a decent selection of beers, cocktails, and wines. The show itself was decent. My Christmas gift this year didn't disappoint! My partner gifted me (us) tickets and dinner to Footloose so I could finally check Chanhassen Dinner Theater off my list. We got the dinner and show packages, so arrived an hour early. Substantial parking lot, though it does fill up fast! I was absolutely blown away how massive it is inside. There's the theater, a comedy club, two bars, and a live music spot?! It's like a secret world in here! I love the ambiance and decor inside - the perfect cozy winter place. We headed into the theater for our dinner. The theater is a bit packed in, so that initially shocked me - my first theater experience since COVID - especially a dinner theater. As a party of 2, we were seated with another pair. Nearly everyone was already eating so we got seated and picked from several dinner entree options - we both picked the chicken. You get a salad as well, but dessert and drinks are extra. We really liked our chicken, and a few of the other entrees around us looked great too. The show was so well done! Amazing actors and singers, and the Footloose story is just such a good one. Because everyone is seated at tables (unless in a sought-after booth spot), everyone is turned sideways towards the theater stage - that inherently made for a bit of neck-craning and chair-turning to be a bit more comfortable. Not quite as comfortable as typical theater seats, but we made do! Overall, very excited to support this local theater and exceptional cast. Next time, I might skip the dinner and do drinks/dessert instead (the chocolate cake was MASSIVE). I would also opt for a forward-facing booth instead of a table. Tips for next time! read more

I've been here a few times now, and haven't been disappointed in any of the plays. I've seen the little mermaid, beauty and the beast, grease, and most recently footloose. The performances, costumes, and music are always outstanding and have you leaving in a positive mood. I have the songs all stuck in my head now. The chanhassen chicken stuffed with a wild rice dressing is my go to, and the veggies are so good too. My husband orders something different every time we go. This last time he ordered a steak and thought it was pretty good. For lacking staff they all did a wonderful job. This place is just so great, I'll go here for years to come! Definitely worth seeing a show here if you haven't yet. I hope in the fall they'll do another Disney production because those have been my favorite. Stopped here last night for the Prom show and it was fun! Our server was on it and I like that they ask you what you want during the intermission beforehand and bring it right away when it's time! We ordered the appetizer sampler which had mozzarella sticks, crunchy coconut shrimp which I loved, dumplings and spinach dip. The chips that came with our dip were stale but I wasn't too worried about the dip anyway. I believe dinner comes with your ticket but appetizers, drinks and upgrades are extra. I like how the tables are set up so that there isn't a bad spot in the house! read more

Yikes...I have been to many concerts at Chan.... but this time I was pretty disappointed and I am not very tough to impress when music is involved. Xpedition was "ok" not great...came out a bit lack luster at first and then picked up some speed after intermission. The rest of experience was so so. When I called to get tickets the lady was snarky on the phone. We had a voucher from winning chanhassen summer medallion hunt and she low key was frustrated with me using that voucher. I asked for something nice for two ppl. Here where it was the worst part of the experience. She sandwiched us between two couples and when I mean we were sandwich I can't even lift my elbow because I would hit person next to me. It was so uncomfortable. It was like eating dinner on a middle airplane seat facing each other. I would probably skipped going there if I know how it was set up. So be very careful and double check where you are sitting. The tables are on top of each other. Also you have to crank your neck to see the show because you are facing perpendicular when you sit in front of stage . I could not even turn my chair because we were wedged in. That gets 0 stars. The food was so so about 3 - chicken was little dry sauce saved it a little , steak we ordered medium it was served medium rare ( just seared on top ) sides were good . Drinks were good . Chocolate cake was dry I don't recommend, coconut shrimp was something out of box not worth it. We got charged double for one entre and didn't notice till we got home so check your bill , we called them and they did refund it. This was my first time going there. It was easy to get to and plenty of parking available. There was quite a line to get in right at 6 so I recommend going a little later like 6:30. Service was amazing. I got the souvenir refillable pop and it was only $6. I feel that's reasonable. I had the Chanhassen chicken which was decent, I felt the wild rice stuffing was soggy. The Turtle cheesecake was good but nothing too exciting. The show, Footloose was amazing. I was in awe of the performance and how well executed it was. I hadn't been here in years! Honestly, the last time I was at the dinner theater it had to be early 2000's seeing Beauty and The Beast. This time around I was an adult and we saw Foot Loose. Everyone in my friend group had seen the show and I knew it must be good (spoiler alert: it was). I wont waste the review talking about the show itself since the shows change but rather I'll focus on the theater itself. I was honestly annoyed at the fact that they make you show your vaccine card / negative test but seat you like sardines in a can. I thought the show would be more Covid friendly but it wasn't- I won't be back until things have died down because I was seated right next to people who were coughing the whole time. The food was pretty meh for a vegetarian. I got the impossible meat loaf and it has the weirdest taste. Would not recommend and would not get it again. I make impossible meat loaf at least once a week at home and there's no need to fill it with vegetables and an unpleasant sauce. Staffing could have been better. Our server didn't come across as the nicest but I know they were short staffed so I'm going to cut her a break and chalk it up to it just wasn't her night. With all of that being said- I'll return again once Covid has calmed down. If you're not as cautious than you could assume this is a four star review instead of a three. read more

Went to my first show at Chanhassen Dinner theater this weekend. The food was great, I had the wild rice stuffed chicken. Others enjoyed their meals as well. The service was really nice. The Jersey Boys production blew is away. The talent on stage was incredible. I can't wait to see another show. Incredible value and the facility is really cool. This was my first Chanhassen Dinner Theatre and it won't be my last! It is such a lovely building with a cozy inviting ambiance. For each ticket, it comes with a prepaid meal and you can upgrade items for a little extra. We tried the hummus, spinach dip and coconut shrimp for an appetizer, and the vegetable lasagna, prime rib, salmon and famous Chanhassen chicken for entrees. During intermission, they serve dessert.
