Enjoyed a nice lunch and will definitely return again soon. Two of us, a little after 12pm noon on a Thursday. Prompt service with hot tea and water. I chose the lunch special with General Tso's chicken that included egg fried rice, an egg roll, and a choice of hot and sour or egg flower soup. The hot and sour soup was nice, good temperature and not too spicy for my taste. The pieces of General Tso's chicken were perfectly cooked, nice and crispy on the outside yet juicy on the inside. Nice and thick sauce as well, not too spicy. Only $11.25 and plenty of food for my appetite to allow for a second, leftover meal later. All in all, an excellent experience! Thank you! read more

The restaurant exterior & interior could use a facelift. Our server was friendly & the service was good as we were seated quickly & checked on periodically. The food came out fast. We were served our food without napkins & utensils, which they did not notice & so we had to ask for. I ordered my Chinese restaurant go-to Mongolian Beef. Good flavor but terrible meat quality as I felt as if I was chewing on rubber. Also the sauce was more runny than I am accustomed to. From the moment you walk in it smells like body ordor. We use to come here all the time but the last two times we came the food went downhill and was super salty and uneditable. The owner was nasty when we told her and argued with us and told us not to come back then. Her attitude is what got us even madder. So I came to this restaurant as a child 40+ years ago. I was in town and decided to try imperial garden a generation later. The interior is much different and nondescript from 40 years ago. The old interior had character and authentic Chinese decor. Now, plain Jane . But the food...it was as good as I remembered. General Tso's chicken, Szechuan Beef, and salt and pepper shrimp were all outstanding. The portion size was immense. I've been sleeping on Imperial Garden. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is just what I was hoping for. The friendly staff was eager to serve and the restaurant is bright and clean. We ordered the Peking family dinner for 2 and chose Mongolian beef and General Tso's chicken, we added a side of fried rice. The chicken was not overly sweet and a bit spicier than I expected but my husband loved it. The heat on the beef was perfect. The appetizers were good, the bbq pork was not dry like many places. Overall, I'd say it's nothing over the top exciting, but if you're looking for a decent Chinese meal this is a great option. Plus the ladies working were so nice. read more

The kids had a party at the laser tag place down the street so after dropping them off my husband and I came here for lunch. The place was very clean and the server was extremely friendly. We both ordered the general tso combo meal which came with soup, egg roll, crab puff, 4 fried shrimp, rice and a generous portion of the general tso's chicken. The food was hot, fresh and very good. We both loved the fried shrimp and the general tso's sauce flavorful. We weren't big fans of the egg roll. It was a vegetable egg roll, which I normally like but the cabbage inside was long and pulled out in big strands when you took a bite. A bit more cut up and it would have been tastier and easier to eat. Overall based on the food and the excellent service we'd definitely come back whenever we're in tho part of town. read more

I've been visiting Imperial Garden for the past 25+ years, and it's always great. Definitely the most flavorful, best-value, quality Chinese food in the area (or ever, in its price range, in my experience). Eating in is fun, especially if you have a party and want to reserve their party room - otherwise it's nice and casual in general with frequent tea service. The team there feels very authentic, they're all very nice. My household has been trying some new Chinese restaurants in the area lately, just to see what stacks up, and nothing compares. I highly recommend the Honey Walnut Shrimp, Ma Po Tofu, Sesame Chicken, Mongolian Beef, any of the Fried Rice, or Sizzling Rice Soup. Don't forget some veggies with the Dry Sauteed Green Beans or any of the Broccoli Dishes. Order lunch specials for great prices. read more

I don't know what the negative reviews are about. I have literally no complaints. It feels like a step back in time when you walk in, and has really nostalgic vibes to going to a Chinese place with my family growing up. The menu is extensive, they have plenty of vegetarian and pescatarian options, and it's all pretty darn good! The fried foods are perfectly crispy, the sauces are flavorful, and it's such a good price! I will continue to come back and enjoy picking up a hearty order that'll last me for days. read more

We really liked Imperial Garden Restaurant. Great ish location. Right on McLoughlin Blvd. Lot's of parking On a Saturday afternoon it wasn't busy at all, not for the size of the place. The lottery section is small and in the corner. The bar... The bar is just an area the employees make drinks at. So your drinks are enjoyed at your table. We just had water service with our meals. The service was great. My only complaint is that, we were brought to the back where the bigger family table's are and seated right next to the only other group in the back. There were other large table's. I guess they were thinking about putting us next to the window for the view... The view is of Mcloughlin blvd. and the fenced in area for the garbage cans. We didn't really care. We like to talk and eat. So we really didn't look outside much. There were 6 of us. 5 adults and a child. We all had different items off the lunch menu. I had Kung Pao Chicken. Lunch items come with a cup of soup. We all had the Egg Flower Soup. Only 1 person didn't like the soup. He's a picky eater, so no surprise there. His Uncle happily ate his soup. Lunch items also come with a Fried Egg Roll and a phallic looking Fried Won Ton. Not kidding! Look n see for yourself. Don't see it? Turn it over. Now? lol. I only had to show the adults my Won Ton and ask. What does this look like? After they stopped laughing. They all said the same thing. That brought up the festivities they celebrate in Japan and other countries. Not a lot could be said as there was a child sitting with us. Almost everything was awesome except for the Fried Egg Roll. Gross! Just a fried grease roll of flavorless overcooked vegetables. I have only found 1 place in this state that has awesome Egg Rolls. I was just there this weekend and they are still amazing! Everything else though was great. My Kung Pao Chicken was spicy but not choke you out hot. Lot's of flavor and tons of chicken. All the items were big portions. A couple koi had trouble finishing their meals. A couple couldn't finish and needed a box. We only had 1 appetizer and that was the Pork App. Also yummy. The lunch items were pretty inexpensive. Especially for the portion size. That day they had a few tables so the kitchen wasn't that busy but our food was quick and hot. It probably took us longer to figure out what we wanted, than it took our order to come out. Lots of parking and plenty of seats. I know we will be back. Just not for Fried Egg Rolls. lol. read more

I moved out of the state over 25 years ago. Recently went to visit Portland this summer and had to go back to the best Chinese food I know. I was a young teen when Mom took us many years ago. Now that I'm older and mom is elderly, I had to take my own kids and Mom to this great restaurant. It's has the best sweet and sour chicken. Lee and her staff are awesome, attentive, professional, and most of all carry a servants heart with every dish they bring to the table. We have no doubt that they will get all of our business every time we have a craving for Chinese food. I order shrimp fried rice with extra shrimp ($5) and extra onions every time. I discovered Imperial Garden about 5 years ago when I retired. They are relatively quick and the ladies at out front put on a friendly face. I found the dish that makes me happy. Salt and Pepper Prawns. They are a nice size with sautéed onions and peppers, in my opinion enough for 2. I've tried other items and they are ok. If you are looking for real authentic Chinese food, then GOOD LUCK. This is American Chinese food. I recommend IG for budget conscious dinning, call ahead for quick service and easy parking. I have eaten here for over 10 years and always love that it has been consistently good. Recently ordering through the DD app we received our food piping hot and very quickly. Sadly as I was eating my very delicious Broccoli Beef I took a bite and had a slice of beef that had a wire through it which luckily I noticed it before it shredded the inside of my mouth. I have been coming to this restaurant since they opened at least 30 years. It has always been good food. For the last two years it has really gone down hill. The quality of food has been very poor and the service even worst. We kept giving them second and third chances since they use to be so good. The final straw was this week when we placed an order to go for chicken noodle soup. They sent noodles in one box and very little broth in the other container that tasted like just water. No veggies and no chicken. I called them to complain and told them I did not want the soup at all and would order something else and pay the difference. I was told no I would have to reorder the same dish. I told them to give me my money back. Horrible customer service for someone who has given them so much business over the years. This is the best hot and sour soup I can remember having. It is loaded up with beef, tofu, egg and veggies. If your feeling a bit stuffed up, a cup or two of this will fix what ails you. While the wife is a confirmed fan of the combination dinners, I enjoy trying some of the other single item dishes. Tonight I had the Mongolian Beef at the standard 7/10 level of spice, and it did not disappoint. Flavourful, on to of a need of crisp noodles and (lightly) fried rice. Very tasty, you have been warned about the heat. The wife's favorite combo continues to be their cashew chicken and sweet and sour chicken. The food is consistently tasty, the portions are huge, the setting is very comfortable and the staff goes out of their way to help you understand what is on the menu. Service was very quick this evening and we are carefully packing our leftovers with the added large(2 quarts) hot and sour soup to take home for the dreary weather to come. This has been our family go to since the 80s. My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner here in 1994! The quality has gone up and down over the years, but lately it has been wonderful. The owner and staff are wonderful and helpful, and make you feel right at home. The new updates have made it lighter and brighter, and they are starting to add the character back in.
