The food here is excellent and the price doesn't break the bank. Karaoke on Friday night... My kids love it.

Chans is a great bar! Unfortunately I have never eaten something that stuck out to me... But there is so much potential for this place. The see gypt little necks are unbelievable and the appetizers are your standard Chinese apps. Again, nothing that stands out but it's not bad. They all mix great with a nice scorpion bowl or mai-tai at the bar! If they improved their food quality a tad this place would be five stars for sure. But the drinks, service. Atmosphere and people keep this place at four. It's a great time EVERYTIME were there. The performers here are outstanding to go with a nice cocktail and plate of lo mein. The karaoke is always a blast and the owner is quite the gentleman. I would kill for one of his sweater vests. Give this place a try! read more

I have always had a great experience at Chan's-until today. I placed my order (for pick up) at 7:26 and was told it would be ready in 10-15 minutes. I got there exactly 10 minutes later only to be sitting in the drive thru line for an additional 10 minutes. I finally get to the window only to be told that my order wasn't ready. I explained that between the time I called and waiting in line it had been 20 minutes. I was asked to pull to the side and that I would be called when it was ready. Another 10 minutes goes by and no call. I go back around only to be told that it still wasn't ready because the cooks 'forgot to make it'. If I didn't have people at home waiting for the food, I would have left. I finally get my food and go home.I open the bag and only 2 of the 3 plates I ordered were in the bag. I call, explain what happened and was told I was being transferred to the 'take out girl and will probably be transferred back". The girl who was at the window answered and said 'Oh yes, we just found your plate. You can either come pick it up or get a credit' I went back to pick it up but you can trust that this is the LAST time I will be going there. I have NEVER been treated so horribly. Would give zero stars if I could. New to the area, heard lots of good things. Went in, ordered a drink and placed a take out order. One HOUR later, my order was still not ready. Apparently, my order was never placed. Waitress was clueless. Spoke to the owner, and he said "Don't worry about it, your food is nice and fresh now." No offer of making things right. Get home, my order is not correct, missing an item. I call the restaurant, they offer me a credit????? No, thanks, I'm never coming back there. Delivery driver shows up 30 mins later with missing item. Never again. Worst take out experience ever. Staff/management were not helpful at all. Avoid at all costs. read more

I went here one Friday and sat at the bar and the pretty blonde bartender, Pam, was sweet, funny, and efficient. She was more of a show than the band. Chan's is a great place to sit and relax and listen to the best blues has to offer. We've been many many times and our meal has always been very good! We travel a lot . Actually live in Indianapolis but have a condo in RI . My hubby is fron RI. Ignore the negative reviews and find out for yourself! This place is a gem! This is a venue that first and foremost supports live music in a time when quality live music venues are far and few between. I have eaten many different meals at Chan's and can say that I've never had a bad one. It is what it is folks. As I read some of these reviews I have to laugh, some of the folks doing the reviews seem to think they are writing for the New York times food section! Get over yourselves people. Chan's does a great job in all the facets of the business. The servers are so nice and work their asses off for tables that do not turn over during shows. There's something about walking into a place and immediately hearing someone telling the owner to "fuck off" that really makes you feel welcome. That should have been warning sign #1, but I trudged on. The drinks weren't terrible. I guess the bartender from the show room was making the drinks at the regular bar too. The female bartender did not seem interested in making drinks and was in fact just drinking and chatting with her friends. Anyway, the food was mediocre, the atmosphere was boring and bland, and no one seemed to want to be there. I guess I won't be visiting Chan's again. read more

They should just pair up with Ho Kong. They have a lot in common....Same 40 +year old decor, rugs, bar, filth, lousy greasy food and each has their regular bar flies. Food would be okay if you were starving and short of killing and eating a companion while lost on a deserted island. The only time you see cars in the lot is for shows. Without that, this dump would have been capped years ago. Save your money and go to Asia Grille or Jackie's Galaxy in Cumberland where they have real FRESH chinese food. I am amazed at all the bad reviews. I love this place. Honestly, I am more of an appetizer type person and I am no big connoisseur on the finer points of Chinese cuisine. But for me this place has great food at great prices. The crab rangoon is always great, the fried foods are less doughy and more meaty than most other chinese places, and the rice is always good. Never had a bad meal here. The wait staff is not over the top pleasant, but also not rude either, unless they are dealing with some of the pompous asses who think they deserve the treatment of kings and queens upon gracing us with their presence. People in Rhodie tend not to put up with that arrogant stuff too well. The jazz club is great, can seat around 100 people, and has great acts all the time with music and comedy. Also, this place is clean and the lighting is low, which is how it should be as we are not going out to some fancy shmancy crystal palace here. So if you like good hot food at good prices in a casual setting, then this is it. read more

This place is a DUMP. The food is so disgusting that I did not even finish any of it. The food was covered in MSG/soy sauce and Ginger. The atmosphere of Chan'--under the bridge in an old industrial city, feeling like your meeting in the "underground" land of mobs, hitmen, and secrets--basically excites me the most of anything. Not to mention the p-erfect music for the mood--live jazz. The food is slightly above your average Chinese fare and can b quite enjoyable. Food was absolutely horrible. The chicken wings tasted like they were fried amongst fish beef chicken etv, and were sitting in oil an inch high. The boneless spare ribs were nothing but fat. The lo mein was made with a thing linguini, unlike traditional lo mein with spaghetti type noodles and tasted off and too saucy. The general gaus chicken had peppers and had barely any sauce and was gross. The chow mein was a brown gravy instead of clear. The only decent thing was the pork fried rice, but how can you really mess up rice? I'm new to the area and I will never ever ever eat here again. read more

I ordered take out on a holiday and it was the most disgusting chinese food I ever had The combination dinner had teriyaki, boneless ribs, gold fingers and fried rice. The teriyaki was hard as a rock and i was afraid I would choke so I spit it in the trash. The golden fingers were soggy and disgusting and the rice was over cooked and had no flavor. The spare ribs were cold and hard as a rock. i also ordered a side of peking wings and they had the most disgusting sauce I threw the whole bag in the trash. The food actually smelled really bad and I had to open the office window to air the place out. Chans should be embarrased serving the mess. I will make sure I tell everyone I know not to try the place it was a total waste of 20 bucks read more

I can't say I'm a frequent patron of Chan's anymore. The other night I went there with family for my mother in law's birthday. The Wonton soup was the favorite part of my meal. The waitress was friendly and service was prompt. My beef and broccoli was hot and that is only thing good I can really say about it. The worst part of Chan's are the filthy not child friendly bathrooms. I could not change my son's diaper while we were there and when I took my 4 year old into the back area bathroom.. we could barely fit in the stall together and I held her above the toilet and wouldn't let her touch anything, because the bathroom was disgusting. How difficult is it to install a changing table in the front bathroom in the handicap stall? Is Chan's that cheap?? I mean it has been open how long and I have seen infants and toddlers there with family and there isn't a changing table. I get you make money on the jazz shows and I see that room looks nice and updated but as far as the rest of the establishment it is far from nice. The next time someone suggests Chan's it won't get my vote. read more

I have been going to Chan's ever since I was little. I gotta say I love the chicken wings and the fried rice, but a few years ago I finally tried the chicken teriyaki, which is delicious. I also go for the beef lo mein, which is equally delicious. I also love going there for the entertainment, specifically Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen. My wife and I have been going to Chans since John Chan was a teenager. The food was great then. About 15 years ago we tried it and the food a[was terrible. I promised myself I would never go back. Well last week we had a show to attend at the Stadium and I told my wife lets give it another chance. We ordered the boneless chicken combo with fried rice and chow mein. I ordered spring rolls as a side. I asked the waitress to bring me some Chinese hot sauce with the spring rolls when they came out. I went to the mens room while I was waiting and by the way it was disgusting and in huge disrepair. When I came back the food was on the table. No hot sauce. By the time the waitress came by my rolls were ice cold and I asked for the Chinese hot sauce again. fifteen minutes later she brought me tabasco sauce. REALLY? The fried rice was dried out like it hung around all day with huge chunks of pork gristle in it. My boneless chicken was hard like a rock and overcooked and I had a huge handful of chow mein noodles with maybe a tablespoon of chow mein over it. Disgusting!! No excuse for this. The service was also terrible! We ate what we could and got the hell out of there. That's it! Last chance! We are done with Chans! read more

I have lived in Woonsocket for most of my life and had successfully avoided eating here until very recently. My friend and I sat at the bar and both of our chairs were broken.. I had to hold on to the bar to avoid the chair leaning and so I didn't tip over. She ordered food and I wasn't going to have any, but ended up giving in. We ate veggie lo mein and an appetizer combo. We've been going to chan's for years. What once used to be a great experience with yummy food has now settled into reused buffet food, old rice and watered down duck sauce! Not only is there no longer ANY quality control, but they use old food and rewarm it, no wrappers on straws and our waitress brought one serving if fried rice over with her thumb shoved into the side- GROSS! cashew chicken was ordered but there was about a pound of celery with a handful of pieces of chicken. This place is officially a dump. For years it has been going down hill and has officially hit rock bottem. The duck sauce is served in tupperware containers, which is an upgrade from the recycled Coffee Mate bottles they used to use. The wait staff is untrained and unprofessional. Our waitress literally had her thumb half deep in a bowl of rice when she served it to us. No bread rolls were offered. When I inquired with the person at the front desk about our service, she said "Oh just don't ask for Carol next time" as if I should have known better. The dining room no longer has any resemblance of a Chinese restaurant, and is full of poorly hung jazz paintings mixed with dining room furniture that is probably more than 30 years old. The fried rice tastes like it is left overs from the buffet reheated in a microwave, which it probably is. They really think people aren't going to notice. Anything that involves being fried, like golden fingers or general's chicken, is going to be gross - again, probably reheated leftovers from the lunch buffet that no one went to because this place is a dump. The only possibly fresh order we received was cashew chicken, but that was just a big mushy plate of celery with a few bits of chicken and water chestnuts in it - the dish was 75% celery. Disgusting. It's extremely disappointing that John Chan would let this happen to his restaurant, which is his family legacy. I have eaten here for well over 30 years and I will never go back again. This place used to be packed any night of the week. John used to greet every visitor. The wait staff was not a jumbled mess of misfits. No one is paying attention to this place anymore. John Chan - invest in your restaurant. Stop putting your watered down duck sauce in tupperware and get some proper serving dishes. Whip your kitchen in to shape and stop serving left overs to your customers. Looks like you forgot about the egg rolls in your "Egg Rolls and Jazz". read more

We got takeout from Chan's for the first time last night - have never there before, but figured since the place has been around for such a long time, the food must be good - big mistake. Granted, you can't judge a restaurant by a few dishes, but we ordered some pretty basic stuff, chicken fingers: dry and flavorless, egg rolls: hard as a rock and filled with ingredients I still can't quite figure out, General Tso's chicken: spicy sauce covered rubber and chicken chow mein that still has me baffled, strips of chicken and onions in a dark watery broth - nasty.
