I believe that they are now on their third location and they have great comfort food with tons of flavor! I am a gumbo fanatic, but I don't go here for their gumbo. I like many of their dishes and some of my favorites are the Pazole Stew and the Drunken Chicken and Maque Choux. They used to have a peanut sauce that was to die for. They also have amazing specials like Lobster Etoufee and Hog Wild Red Chili. If you are in the mood for something different, you won't find recipes like these anywhere else in Kentucky.

He grew in the area and we can't get anything like this in SoCal. Here is my OG review for that location: https://www.yelp.com/biz/gumbo-ya-ya-lexington?hrid=5F5j3n4_G5d_JwDNegMblA&utm_campaign=www_review_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct) Although the Lexington location had since closed, Hubby is happy that this Nicholasville location exists. We first visited this location in Oct 2024. Our most recent visit was Oct 2025. Between these two visits, I've enjoyed whatever rotating vegan option was available. Last year's visit offered a Succotash, which is a spicy bean sauce, red beans, corn, tomatoes, okra, bell peppers, garlic, and onion. https://bit.ly/3LTLAlv This year's visit was the California Creole made with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, tomatoes, garlic, green onions, and green peppers mixed in a white wine red sauce. A surprising ingredient, fresh OJ. Yum! https://bit.ly/4nRj3KV There are two sizes available, and the smaller size is already a generous portion. The bases are either pasta or rice. It also comes with a garlic bread which staff says is made with oil. Quick service order at the counter. The dining room is fairly large. I wouldn't mind coming back to check out the rotating vegan option every time.

I ordered the artichoke and mushroom with Parmesan cheese sauce, potato salad, and Andy's Cajun Korn pudding. Portion sizes are very large! My entrée was large enough for two meals. The Cajun Korn pudding was a little spicy but not too much, mostly just good flavor. Potato salad was definitely unique, not like any other potato salad I have had before. Service was very friendly Although my experience today was strictly drive thru next time I will plan to dine in. An excellent experience.

I recommend upgrading and getting your dishes over the jambalaya. It was delicious. The corn pudding was very unique and had a spicy kick. My husband ordered the red beans with smoked sausage and the gumbo. He also said that was delicious. When you go in you order at the counter and then there are a lot of sauces to choose from to put over your dish if you like. I recommend the garlic hot sauce. The dining area is spacious and decorated with unique art. I'm excited to try the bbq sandwiches and the chili dogs in the future.

I started doing my reviews in this order: The Appeal…read moreThe Bad (?) The Good I consider myself some what of a seafood boil "snob" being that I lived in Las Vegas around some of the best restaurants in the world and have had seafood all over the country. There isn't any seafood in the small town I live in so every time I go out of town for work I stop to get seafood. The appeal of the Storming Crab: this place is located just down from the Fayette Mall which use to be a booming shopping center. The restaurant has a HUGE Fiberglass Crab on the outside of the building and hip graffiti painting outside. Inside the restaurant reminds you of being on a ship if it was autographed by everyone you know. The host was nice and so was my server who was super sweet. The Bad (?): I had been here a few times before and remember being disappointed because of the butter reminded me of the jug of melted popcorn butter instead of real melted butter. - However this time it didn't taste that way so I'm not sure if they changed it but it really won me back as a customer. The Good: Something I did find today that I have never found before is their seafood bread! I don't know what kind of witchcraft it is but it is one of the best things I've had. Think cheddar bay biscuits x100! Overall the Storming Crab is a solid choice. As someone who is a seafood person, if you get a boil, and know how to peel seafood, get the head ON shrimp vs. the head off- it should be fresher and more meat.

Once you have had a Tony's crab cake, nothing else comes close. Their sides are incredible. We have to get the potato wedges every time we go. You can't go wrong with their salads either I love the Caesar and the Greek. I always like to try some of the other dishes as well. We split the asparagus and truffle wedges. The sea bass need a little more flavor. The sauce that came with it was more sweet, which I was not a huge game of. I would highly recommend the truffle wedges perfect amount of salty and truffle (the truffle is not too overbearing). The service is really good. Our server gave us the specials and a good explanation of all the food. He was friendly and not too distracting. I will say it was dark in there, but it helped to create the ambience. Definitely recommend a reservation. There are lots of people waiting.
