As a self-certified Pad See Ew enthusiast, I approve this message!! Chao Thai nailed every dish we ordered! They even called to double-check that eggs were okay with my vegetarian sauce request.... talk about attention to detail!! We showed up 10 minutes after closing feeling like the worst customers ever, but they still greeted us with kindness and thanked us for stopping by. The Pad See Ew was packed with flavor without any fish sauce taste, the fresh shrimp spring rolls were refreshingly perfect, and that chunky peanut sauce deserves its own fan club!!! Then the mango sticky rice came in for the grand finale with creamy coconut goodness and sweet, juicy mango. If you're in the area, skip the chains and support this amazing local family-owned gem!! My boss said he was buying our lunch before we headed out to an outdoor event in the late afternoon on a Saturday - we got to choose where. I hadn't tried any Thai since I moved to Nevada, so this was my chance. Boss called in the order around 1:30, we had to leave the office for the event by 3:30, not too bad timing, we missed the lunch rush right? And our office is 7-10 minutes away by car. Quick side note: I ordered the panang curry with chicken, don't ask me why I stupidly forgot to take pictures of it. It was the best I've had in a long time and everyone loved it. Perfect amount of heat, I could've eaten the whole tub of it by myself. But I was nice enough to share it. Which meant I got to try everything else too!! We also got the Mongolian beef, pad Thai with fried tofu, papaya salad and volcano calamari. The Mongolian beef was tender and savory. Pad Thai with fried tofu was good. I eat tofu, but never tried fried tofu with noodles. The noodles were just right, not a clump of noodles stuck together. And yes I've had it that way too many times to mention. Green papaya salad, is always refreshing with the savory fish sauce. Harmony in my mouth. Next time I'll take pics of the panang curry. So my only gripe is that we placed a phone order and wasn't allowed to pay over the phone and though my boss knows them well and ordered often, when calling the order in we were told it'd take 20 minutes. We waited 10 then jumped in my Bronco to head over to pick it up. We get there at as it hits the 20 minutes since the order was placed. The order should be ready right? Nope we check in with the guy at the counter and he tells us it's gonna be another 15 minutes ! Forgive me if we were hangry, but now we gotta wait another 15 minutes ? Turned out to be more like 20 more minutes!!! Yup hangry made all the additional wait time start subtracting stars. But that gave me time to look around. The restaurant is a basic place, clean is my main concern. Ample seating for maybe 20 people. It was empty except for two people seated at a table. Lots of sturdy laminated menus. Didn't notice any take out menus but I was hangry and a little upset having to wait another additional 20 minutes on top of the original 20 minutes. I think they could've been upfront if they don't take a payment over the phone that they won't start it till you get there and pay first. I could understand that. But damn 40 minutes total wait time !!! Another side note, someone else from my office said they ordered and paid in advance online around 2pm in the afternoon and they were told they had to wait 15-20 minutes when they expected to be picking up their order and walking out. So I dunno if there's some kind of problem with their system of handling orders. Cause that's pretty lame to pay for an online order and the food wasn't ready when they got there. The food was good and it sucks to have it be a three star review. I will go back, but I'll order and pay online and see if the delay still exists. read more

We ordered the fried tofu, French fries, combination fried rice, orange chicken and pad Thai with chicken. I appreciated that they offered French fries. I ordered a plate for my daughter. They were quite tasty too. We devoured the fried rice. The fried tofu was good. I liked the sweet sauce with tiny peanut toppings. The pad Thai was disappointing because the noodles were thin glass like noodles. When I asked if this was pad Thai the server confirmed it was and I how come the noodles were not thicker. She walked away and I heard her speak to her staff that they need to order the correct noodles. The flavor had a weird smell and was tangy. We did not care for this pad Thai dish. The orange chicken was decent. The service was good. The plates they give you to eat your food on were tiny like a tea plate. I wish it would've been a little bit bigger. Chao Thai seriously exceeded expectations. The portions were generous, everything came out fresh, and the flavors were amazing across every dish we ordered. The Pad Thai with shrimp was perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. The Yellow Curry was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor especially paired with the white rice. The Crab Fried Rice was easily one of the highlights and had a ton of flavor in every bite. The Orange Chicken was crispy and delicious, and the Basil Fried Rice with chicken had the perfect amount of spice and flavor. We also ended with the Mango Coconut Sticky Rice and it was the perfect dessert to finish the meal. Service was fast, the staff was friendly, and you can tell they care about the quality of the food. It's chow time with Chao Thai! The service from boss man is always amazing, a strong and friendly presence to greet you, assuring you always get the right plate you're craving that day. The food is packed with flavor and the aroma that comes from the kitchen when the food is being prepared inflates your nostrils into thinking you're in your Thai grandmas kitchen. I've never had a short from amazing meal here. I read some of the reviews saying that the portions aren't large or that the service is slow and I couldn't disagree more. Not once, have I left here hungry, not once have I waited more than 15 minutes for my food. Even if I did have to wait more than 15 minutes, you can't rush greatness. Humble little spot near UNLV to get some good Thai food. My work team and I dined here on our lunch break and the food came out within 20 mins. I had some spring rolls and Pad See Ew, both of which were yummy and flavorful. The restaurant wasn't too busy, so I can't speak to wait times when multiple parties are dining. The interior is humble with a few tables/booths. There are no bells/whistles on the decor and things could use a little updating, but it smelled and seemed clean enough. A coworker and I were looking for a good Thai place near work and decided to check out Chao Thai and we are so glad we did. We went around 11:30am and it wasn't busy. It's near ULNL and school wasn't in session that day so could make a difference. They did have several To Go orders while we were there. They have Lunch Specials (Monday - Friday) with 15 choices that are $9.95 for an Entree that includes steamed rice, spring roll, and soup. It's a few dollars more if you choose beef, shrimp, brown, or fried rice. I went with the Spicy Basil with Beef and loved it. Their spice level is 1 (mild) to 5 (very spicy). I went with a level 4 and it was exactly what I wanted. Spicy enough if you like it hot but not overwhelming where you can't taste the food. He also gave us some chili sauce on the side so you can add as needed. My coworker went with the Pad Thai with Chicken, spice level 4. I tasted some of it and it was delicious. Noodles mixed perfectly in the sweet-savory sauce with all the accoutrement- veggies, bean sprouts, and chopped peanuts. The portions for the Lunch Specials are good. The place is nice and clean- nothing fancy, just casual. The male that was working was our server, cashier, and took phone orders and is amazing. He was very friendly and attentive. Soooo good! My sister and I visit this place 2-3 times a month for their lunch specials! Lunch specials typically come with rice, an entree, soup and a small appetizer. The service and the ambience is amazing! You can really tell the owners really care about their customers and their food. Soooo cute I love it! I would consider this a hole in the wall since the food was soooo good, yet so underrated. Dare I say probably some of the best Thai food I've had in a while. They had the Asian aunties in the back and they knew what they were doing!! After today's experience I would not recommend this place to anyone. When I walked in, it didn't smell like food but a nail salon in there. Why am I smelling acrylics in a restaurant? I've ordered from this establishment many times before and the food was good and adequately portioned. I ordered 7 dishes and when I took them home for the family, the portion sizes have decreased significantly with a bunch of other fillers in it. The yellow curry had 4 small pieces of chicken. Teriyaki has less than 3 ounces of chicken. The Mongolian beef only had shreds of beef and the dish was basically all onions. I called to see if they had changed how they offered this dish because there was barely any protein in the dishes. It was a young kid who answered, no customer service skill, who said "well it just be a different chef and I can't do anything about it." There are so many Thai places in Vegas and it would be nice to continue supporting small businesses but I don't feel this place is deserving. read more

Summary for the busy executive: a tiny, very, *very* casual spot with decent though never stellar food run by very nice folks. I work at UNLV, and Chao Thai is one of the few sit-down restaurants within easy walking distance of my office. So I eat lunch there fairly frequently, at least once or twice a month. For that sort of dining, Chao Thai is perfect. They have nice lunch specials for under $10 that come with a side and an entree. They have a decently wide selection, including both Thai and Cantonese dishes. This is a family run business, and the people who run it take great pride in their livelihood; they are courteous, attentive, and prompt. It's quite easy to get in and out of here for lunch in under 45 minutes. The place has always been super casual--no linen tablecloths or silver here! Since the Covid pandemic, they have become even more strikingly casual. Out of what I presume were health concerns, they started serving food out of the same disposable styrofoam containers that they use for takeout. This practice seems a little unfortunate to me for both environmental and atmospheric reasons. But it must give the owners peace of mind and possibly cuts down on their water costs, so I can't blame them too much. The food is never mind-blowingly good, but it's always satisfying. My favorite dish is the pad se ew, which I have with chicken. The meat is high quality and other ingredients always seem fresh. Their orange chicken is also quite good. Be cautious with their spicy scale; they grade on a 1-5 scale, and 3 is really, really spicy! In short, I wouldn't come here to impress a date or if I were seeking the best Thai food in Las Vegas. But it's a solid bet for lunch, and I'll surely keep coming here a couple of times a month so long as they are in business. Ordered the Pad Se Ew dish, and wanted to order the Curry Puffs, unfortunately they don't have it Spoke to the owner (I assuming), super nice lady, she shared with me that they don't do Curry Puffs all the time since is so much work, and I understand what she mean, I know how to do the Curry Puffs, but I don't do it because is a lot of work, that's why Im there. lol So I decided to order the Crab Cheese Waton? I think that's what it call it. Pad Se Ew dish was delicious, potion not huge, big enough to fill me up. See, here is the thing, in Asia, we can sat down and order many dishes, because the dishes are in a good portion, unlike here in America, all the portion are so...big, is like people want to kill you by over stuffing you I believe majority of their business is togo, because they don't have plates or glasses, all togo boxes and paper cups. This place is very small but the food hits the spot! I was craving some Thai food, and realized that all the places in Vegas are charging 15-18 dollars for pad thai, and even more for curry. I found this place close to UNLV and it was perfect for a broke college student like myself. It was 10.95 for a chicken pad Thai and 11.95 for a chicken curry, both combined would've almost been the cost of one dish at other Thai restaurants. Parking was super easy! I will say all of the people that are coming in we're getting to go orders. There wasn't a single person it was actually eating inside... It doesn't really bother me, if I see great reviews on Yelp. Parking was easy, the service was super friendly, the dining area has son room for improvement. There was an evaporator cooler to keep the heat down inside the restaurant. ( I mean to be honest at least they were doing something about it right??) Once I got the food home and actually eat it it was 1000% on point! Thai salad was delicious, And the yellow curry without potato was absolutely delicious!! They had the temperature on the to go order high enough so when I got home it was still steaming!! That in itself deserves a star on on its own!! I will see that there was a couple of times that some customers were charged an additional fee because the order was under $15. Just an FYI on that. I didn't have any problem with that because my order was over that, but I can see how that may irritate someone from time to time. Overall 4 Stars. The food was excellent the parking was easy the staff was friendly... I think they could get that extra star if they were able to move to a different location that could give them the room to expand and update the main dining area. I will be back for sure! read more
