We've have owned a home in the area for many years but never stopped at Chapala, so we decided to stop for lunch one day. It was a pleasant surprise! Here's what we noticed: - The inside is pretty nice, lighter inside than you would expect from looking at it on the outside because of the skylights. The paint inside is a little tired and there's some cobwebs, etc. around but it still had a nice atmosphere. The chairs and tables are a bit tired, but ok. - The menu is pretty broad, and the prices seemed pretty reasonable. - My wife and I decided to split two different meals, the Al Pastor Burrito (which was served with a small salad) and the combo plate of Sofa and Chili Relleno. The portions on both dishes were really good, such that we took half the burrito home for later. The food was very tasty! - Service was just fine, although it was a pretty quiet time at lunch on a Thursday. Bottom line: This is a solid Mexican place, better than some in the area. It had been a few years since we last went here, but driving by almost every day had me craving to come back. I'm glad we did. Super friendly staff, nice clean and brightly colored dining room, and comfortable seating. Menu is pretty good, a lot of options but still keeping it fairly simple. They were great at accommodating our 4 year old with having beans on the side of her taco. I got a birra burrito and my wife a pastor burrito. I was really glad the birra was just a well seasoned soft beef, it was really good. Not greasy, not smothered in sauce, just a nice marinated and slow cooked beef. The pastor was good as well from my one bite, it is different than most of the others around here. I think it would probably still benefit from some pineapple or something, but I didn't get enough to properly judge. Price point is great, service is great, location is easy and the ambiance is pretty darn good. I'm looking forward to coming back more regularly. read more

I'm the only guy here so I'm hoping there is some love for that first order today. I stopped here after a round of golf in Morro Bay. I had seen this place grow over the years from a gas station that offered some Mexican food. This was my first time stopping in and I ordered the chili verde. It was plenty and flavorful. The salsa with the chips they give free was spicy and homemade. I need to go back and try other items. First time for me and I was very pleased with the service and food. I arrived on a cold rainy winter night and in need of warm soup to relieve my cold symptoms. The server suggested the fish soup. I was a bit reluctant because fish isn't my first choice at a Mexican restaurant; my preference is chile relleno. Their fish soup is superb, filled with shrimp, chunks of fish, carrots, onions, zucchini, and cubes of potatoes. It hit the spot! Fresh lime slices, onions, dried chilis, and cilantro are served on a side plate. A choice of either corn or flour tortillas are offered. The salsa is spicy and the horchata is really sweet (not watered down). It's not surprising that this local restaurant in Morro Bay has an excellent fish dish. I'll definitely come back for the chile rellenos, fajitas, and other specialties. read more

The sauces here are truly amazing.... Try the Diablo shrimp. It is tangy and smoky with the right amount of heat. The rice and beans are a perfect delivery device for the extra sauce and the salad adds a nice contrast. I got 11 big shrimp on my plate for the $22. Quality food for a good price. First time visit, the food and service was great. We ordered the chile verde and tacos dorado. Flavors were authentic.

I dined here over 10 years ago and their chicken fajitas were so spicy I never returned, I am super sensitive to hot spice in foods. I decided to give this restaurant another try on my birthday while I was out adventuring around Morro Bay and Los Osos. I wanted some place I could sit and watch the sun go down over the water. I discovered this is not that place, the windows are so tall and covered with curtains that you have to go outside the front door to watch the sun go down!! That aside, I decided not to order any typical dishes. I ordered two sopes (one beef and one chicken) and the Grilled Special that includes Quail, Shrimp, and Beef with rice, beans, and tortillas. I wanted a salad but they had no blue cheese dressing so I passed. I ordered two Jarritos and ate chips and salsa while I waited. The salsa was really spicy hot, so I also ordered some guacamole and sour cream on the side for dipping. Chips were good. The sopes were fried (which is good since I have been at some restaurants where it is just a disc of raw dough!!). However, the chicken was SO SPICY that I took it home to use with lots of sour cream with my other leftovers in burritos the next day. The beef wasn't so spicy. The quail was disappointing, it was served with its little feet sticking up and all crispy. Perhaps this is the usual way to serve grilled quail but it was off-putting. That, and the fact that I really had to work hard to get ANY meat off the bird, has contributed to the fact that I won't order quail again. Probably not their fault but "lesson learned" as they say!! The shrimp was tasty, seasoned properly, but they still had their tails on and when I was trying to get one off the shrimp fell off the plate and onto the floor!! An expensive bit of meat wasted!! They were sort of hard to get into a tortilla, too. The beef was absolutely delicious. Now I know what I am going to order if I ever go here again. It was seasoned perfectly and wasn't too dry. Not too spicy and lots of it. Enough to make a burrito at home the next day with my leftovers. All in all, for someone like me who doesn't like hot spicy foods I need to be careful what I order here. Most people probably wouldn't have trouble with the spice. I will order the delicious steak the next time I am here. read more

Amazing wet burritos, service was very good, called in an order to pick up and when I got there 10 minutes later, the order was ready to go.

We got some tacos to go & we have been raving about this meal for days!! I just wish we lived closer so we could go back for more. We ordered a few tacos - chicken, Birria, and pastor - which came with a surprisingly good side salad and dressing. Everyone of the tacos was 10/10 and I can't even pick a favorite. Let me start with they have the BEST chips and salsa in the county. I usually get the Cameron's a la Diablo and it's delicious but basically so is everything else. The ambiance is perfect for authentic Mexican Restaurant but big enough to accommodate a lot of people. Ambiance was great but that's where the greatness ended. Service was awful, as if they could not be bothered to serve a party of 5 in an empty restaurant at 2pm on a Saturday. The food was not bad but it was not great either. The worst part was they opted to wash the floors with very strong chemicals while we were eating, we opted to leave as none of us could stand the smell of Pinesol and bleach while eating. We really enjoyed all the food we ordered for delivery from this restaurant. Everything arrived quickly and was extremely fresh and delicious. To start we got an order of the nachos with meat it was super full of yummy toppings and the meat was really delicious and the dish was packed full of goodness. So filling! We also split a two taco plate of the birria beef tacos and the two taco plate of the chicken tacos.... We had a hard time deciding which we preferred they were both delicious! We enjoyed the food so much we returned the next day to try the wet burritos and each managed to eat a Carne asada wet burrito though I have to admit it took two meals to finish it all. Definitely get your money's worth on the food here! We loved it and will be back again. Also, the guacamole was really delicious and they give you a large portion for the money. The one thing we would have liked was some salt on the chips but we added our own, no big deal! read more

Food is always great! I recommend the shrimp taco!! Service is above average, I like to call in my order, but eating there will get you complimentary chips and salsa. It is an authentic Mexican restaurant and the decor and interior are not fancy but remind me of many places I have been to south of the border. Ordered 2 complete meals through door dash and when we received our order it was completely wrong. We ordered everything non dairy, due to allergies and it all came with everything with cheese and ranch on the salad. They also didn't give us the tortillas that were supposed to come with the order. We tried calling to fix the order and couldn't get them to answer the phone. This required us to drive down there. Unacceptable and frustrating. How hard is it to check the order before sending it out. Oh and this isn't the first time. That is why it's a 1 star. read more

Really nice, and friendly service here. Their chips and salsa are really good here; the chips are even homemade. I will never get the chicken here again though. It tasted like a boiled rubber chicken that was shredded. It was dry and completely flavorless. Luckily the topped it with some of their great hot salsa that has a sweet kick to it. read more
