Really nice, and friendly service here. Their chips and salsa are really good here; the chips are even homemade. I will never get the chicken here again though. My Aunt and Uncle talked my wife and me into to joining them for lunch here instead of a spot down by the water. Pulling into the parking lot alongside the 101 we were greeted with a rough looking exterior including a torn awning and started to doubt their wisdom. Things began improving immediately as we were warmly greeted and shown to our table. At 130 in the afternoon, it was just us and one other table in the dining room. Their menu had all the typical Mexican dishes and I was attracted to the combinations. I have a soft spot for Tacos Al Pastor and found them there. My wife picked the nearby Carne Asada version as did my Aunt while my uncle got Camarones a la Diabla. We enjoyed their chips and salsa while our lunches were prepared. Their salsa was wicked hot with lots of chunks. I was happy to be sipping on my Bohemia beer to keep the fire in check. In no time, our food appeared and we dug in famished from just having toast for breakfast. The two tacos, refried beans, rice and salad filled the platter to almost overflowing. Everything was hot temperature wise and quite tasty. I would have preferred more pineapple in my tacos but other than that enjoyed it. My wife and I swapped a taco each and I liked my pork taco more than her beef one. My poor uncle at this point was sweating profusely as his dish was living up to its name. It even looked spicy hot when delivered with its deep red sauce. He was a trooper though and polished it off. Our lunch was pleasant and we enjoyed their service and hospitality. I do believe this restaurant should have been voted the best Mexican food in all of Morro Bay. Hands down, this restaurant has the best Chile verde in the city. One dinner will easily feed 2. Excellent rice and beans. I had a Michelada, so tasty. Just the right amount of spices. Chips and salsa are yummy. Just a little heat. Service was great. My husband had the Chile relleno and sopes . Thought we try a place away from the touristy area so stopped by here. Not a fancy place, a little humid and there was only one waiter. Looked like a seat yourself kind of place but the waiter cleaned off a table for us to sit down. I didnt much care for the food. They give you some chips and salsa to munch on. I didn't like my asada burrito there was too much rice and beans and the shrimp taco had a. weird flavor to it. I wouldnt recommend this place if you want authentic mexican food. read more

Very delicious! Great servers with a nice personality. Easy to chat with. We ordered 5 different items. Shrimp cocktail, flautas, chili verde, taco salad and a burrito. All had good portions and we ended up taking some home. The shrimp cocktail had a lot of flavor and shrimp to the very last bite. The taco salad and burrito were huge! A pleasant surprise on our trip to Morro Bay. We were a bit skeptical at first, but they had us once we tasted the amazing salsa and chips. Thanks to fellow yelpers we decided to stay and give this place a chance. Good thing we did, our carnitas torta was awesome, as was my lenga taco. My bf had the carnitas taco, carne asada taco, and al pastor taco--the carnitas was the winner. Coming from Tennessee and having spent a lot of time in Texas, where the average Mexican restaurant is so Americanized or perhaps "Texacized", it was nice to see a Mexican restaurant that has Milanesa proudly featured under it normal entrees, that also has tortas, and uses crema and Mexican cheeses (like cotija). That is designed to give some perspective for the review, as locals here might say "this is pretty normal". Location not far off the 1 (almost like a feeder for the highway). Very Mexican décor in an old Adobe like building. Quite a few Mexican beers in the cooler (all bottled or canned) and many more than the average US Mexican place. Definitely bonus for being able to try something new. The tables are set on wicker type stands and the vibe is definitely border town. Staff is limited, but very friendly. Womens room inside (marked women only) and men's outside (look at pix and you can see the door). Food? Wife order a relleno (with crema and cotija) and a enchilada. Both great. I order the Cordoniza a la Chapala, which is essentially quail fajitas, with rice and beans and choice of tortillas (definitely went with corn). The quail is a bit harder to eat, due to the very small parts, but extremely tasty. The chips are definitely home fried, as they are fried versions of the tortillas for meals. The salsa was spicier than most run of the mill Mexican restaurants, but nice and chunky with plenty of spices. I can't really think of much of a negative for the place. I would go back if I lived closer. Not quite a five star experience, but both a good place for food and an experience. read more

I used to love this place until today. I am beyond disappointed with the service and the food. We arrived and realized they were overwhelmed half way sitting there and we never received drinks, silverware, or chips and salsa for 30 minutes. We gave benefit of the doubt until we ordered. We ordered our food and I was very specific in what I wanted and what me and my family could have as we were allergic to gluten. The waitress repeated back what we ordered and we agreed, 20 minutes go by and we still haven't gotten our food, chips and dip, but luckily we got our drinks. My order came out wrong and the cook got mad at ME for it being wrong and I told the waitress about it, she proceeded to argue with me for 20 minutes how I ORDERED WRONG. Lol ok lady, she yelled at me said no! I said no this isn't ok! I did not order this and she kept going and I left, my husband got super sick from the food in which this asshole said was gluten free and it wasn't. I would NOT come here! They don't give a crap about you. I'm so upset about the whole experience and now my husband is going to be sick for a long time. Thanks a bunch!!! read more

This is just a hole in the wall type of restaurant. We have been here a few times. Prior to this visit we had great service, today... not so much. We waited and waited and then waited more. The employees sat at the table over from us blaring the TV. My drink glass sat empty for over 10 minutes while my server sat at the table with other employees playing on her phone. A customer that had finished before us stood at the cash register for approximately 10 minutes before someone helped him. Now let me tell you about my food. It was delicious! I had the Taco salad with Chili Verde. So very yummy! My friend got the Taco salad with Shrimp. It was loaded with Shrimp! The only reason I gave a 4* was for the food. Had the food been bad I would have given a 1*. The cleanliness needs improvement. The light switches are very dirty. The floors are sticky. My suggestion is get the food to go. read more

This little place is away from the main town but relatively close to the beach. It's a smaller place, not too busy, and very homey. Our server was very sweet and she didn't rush us which we appreciated. We also had a few good laughs with her! It seems like a family run place which made us know it was going to be some authentic Mexican food. We had the chips and salsa and then decided to order some guacamole. Salsa was a tad spicy for me but flavor was good so I pushed through it haha. Never the less though, the food was EXCELLENT! I had a variation of tacos and if I had to pick my top favorites it would be the chile verde and el pastor. It was fun to get messy also taste so good. My cousin got the chicken and beef enchiladas and those were equally as good (stole a few bites). Usually I don'y enjoy refried beans but these were ones I would come back for. Another cool thing was the various Mexican beers they had. It was nice to enjoy a drink that you can't usually get access to back home.
